Saw we hit page 40, so figured I'd get a head start on the next thread just in case!!

Oh gosh, I just thought, there may not be very many more of these threads - I wonder if this one may even be the last?!

HUGE congrats to @MudandMoet on their gorgeous wee one!!
Best of luck on your way home this afternoon/this evening, I'm desperate to ask all about what it was like but I'll avoid that as I don't want anyone to get nervous/anxious about what's to come!!

Super glad you're feeling mostly okay and so so SO happy for you! <3

@FuppinNora & @Wanderlust86 thank you!! Ironically I ended up with mastitis after being too pleased with all the sleep we were getting, so have had to cut the bottle for now. 🫠

I didn't plan to EBF this time so hopefully he'll continue to sleep semi long stretches or will have to re-evaluate our feeding. 🙈 My first never took a bottle or soother and I cracked from it so really don't want to do that again.

Poor little girl is really struggling since last night. Seems like wind/tummy pain. Can't lie on her back without straining or screaming so sad to see. Couldn't get her in her cot at all and ended up falling to sleep with her on my chest. Only way she could get comfortable and not cry. Feel bad though as know risky.

Any other babies having this issue? She's only 10 days old

Esme is 9 days old and having exactly this!! She didn't go down in her crib at all last night screamed every times. Slept in bed with me feeding and cuddling again I feel bad as know it's risky but only way she would settle and I could get any shut eye (I'm a very light sleeper!)

I think we get a 10 day midwife call tomorrow will check my badger notes app and mention it

TripleESept24 · 30/09/2024 18:00

@WinsandSam @Decaffe I haven't mentioned it yet but will tomorrow.......

She had improved the last few nights but last night was bad again........ It's the gas trapped wind now I think x

sorchanim · 30/09/2024 20:50

@malimoon hang in there! I'm 6 days overdue so booked for an induction on 7 October - baby has 7 days to get here on their own. But either way it's kind of crazy to think that in just two weeks you'll have your baby at home with you! 😍

WinsandSam · 01/10/2024 01:29

@malimoon must be so frustrated, especially with almost everyone else here having given birth.. sending you some oxytocin vibes 🙏

@TripleESept24 I wonder if it's a growth thing related to digestive system if a few have it around the same age. Who knows but it's bloody hard work. I think if most are honest, they have slept like this. I know my friends and family have. Trying to persevere and so far she's had 1.5hrs in the cot tonight 🥳 so taking that as a win for now.

TripleESept24 · 01/10/2024 03:49

@WinsandSam I'm currently sat feeding and have had all of about ten minutes of her in her crib!!! 😓 I'm sooooo tired.

Can I ask what everyone has their babies sleeping in blanket/swaddle/sleeping bag? She has just had cellular blankets since hospital and being home. Seriously considering the swaddle to see if it helps because as soon as she starts stirring and crying she kicks like crazy and the blankets are off.

Willing to try anything right now for improvement as I'm struggling massively with the lack of sleep

WinsandSam · 01/10/2024 03:53

@TripleESept24 oh no, poor little thing. Swaddle wise I've hurst been using normal cellular blankets or swaddle wraps. The a wool blanket on top. Tonight I've put her in the love to dream bag and wool blanket and she's been good as gold in it. Thought she'd hate it. Swaddling her made a big difference and calmed her down a treat. Could she be cold?

Just after I wrote this she went down in her crib 4.30ish - 7.30am. nearly 3 hours!! Which I'm very grateful for!!

Our house is hot, and room is the perfect temp, but I am going to try the swaddle tonight!! Maybe she is a bit cold, and also hoping it will keep her stiller and calmer!! I have just the swaddle wraps!

malimoon · 01/10/2024 07:51

@sorchanim thank you! Sending you baby delivery vibes also!

Emmaev · 01/10/2024 10:40

From when we came home a day after birth until about 20 days old baby girl was hard work to keep asleep unless she was on me.
Shes started having naps in the morning in the cot and for the past 3 nights she slept in 4 x 2 hour burst in her cot. Last night she managed 3 hours but my boobs were fit to burst.

Since I’ve began swaddling her in her cot as well she settled much better. Also white noise has been a godsend. She was a month old yesterday and I do feel that it’s getting slightly easier. Although I don’t want to speak too soon 😂

FuppinNora · 01/10/2024 10:54

@TripleESept24 I've been swaddling DS in cellular blankets and blanket over him as his weight was too small for sleeping bags. It really helped him settle. Helps with the startle reflex. Also put their bum on mattress first and keep your hand on their tummy gentle rocking them. I looked up videos 😅 he still wants contact naps during the day sp doesn't work 100%. Look at happycosleeper on instagram.

I found the 3rd week to be a bit hellish if I'm honest! I think the birth adrenaline dipped and sleep deprivation kicked in.

I've started him on colief drops to see will it help him with wind and gas. He is only pooing every 3 days and gets cramps. Hopefully it gives him some relief as we have had some pretty bad days! He is starting to smile which is lovely 😍

Sending positive cramps to the ladies that are left! 😂 good luck!

BakeOffRewatch · 01/10/2024 10:57

I’m having the same with sleep now at 3 weeks old. I’m on the lookout for Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy as my first had it and it can take a month to show up. I think the cluster feeding and the colicky symptoms are related, they’re getting used to processing more food right? It took me about 3 attempts to type this, as under a sleepy and crying baby!

TripleESept24 · 01/10/2024 12:23

My sister in law has just told me swaddling and white noise worked a treat. What are u using for white noise @Emmaev ?

Esme was born 8 lb 6oz but today at day 10 she is down to 7 lb 8oz....... I will check the sleeping bag but feel it will be too big but I have some swaddle wraps that I think are from birth/newborn

Emmaev · 01/10/2024 13:12

@TripleESept24 i just use YouTube, indie loves either the hair dryer and hoover. Swaddle and white noise has been the magic combo for us

I don't know how I would sleep with white noise? Lol

kc92 · 01/10/2024 13:55

@TripleESept24 there's a ton of free white noise apps, that'll still let you use your phone for whatever you want to watch. Think the one we used first time around was called White Noise Baby Sleep Sounds and it had loads of options to pick from.

WinsandSam · 01/10/2024 15:50

@TripleESept24 👏👏👏 amazing!! For some reason this one will also sleep better for the mornings. Hope the swaddling goes well. I'm also using white noise. I just play it from Spotify on my phone and put it next to her cot. There are 12hr baby playlists on there. If not the machines are pretty good that you can pick up on amazon. I think we get used to the noise as it doesn't affect my sleep.

@Emmaev that's good to know! Glad to hear there are some improvements over the short weeks.

Wanderlust86 · 01/10/2024 16:19

@TripleESept24 I got the dream egg white noise machine from amazon. I wondered how we would sleep too but I barely notice it now.

Emmaev · 01/10/2024 18:17

I never notice the white noise either, I actually quite like it now. I’m definitely going to look into Spotify or an app. When I use YouTube I can’t use my phone at the same time

TripleESept24 · 01/10/2024 18:59

We have had the worst crying this afternoon/evening. Like proper discomfort crying/screaming/scrunching her legs up.......

I am trying tummy massage, back rubs, tummy time skin on skin on my chest!! Nothing is soothing her at all other than going back on my boob.......... Is that not going to make her tummy worse??

Wanderlust86 · 01/10/2024 19:11

@TripleESept24 I found infacol helped Lydia as she did the legs scrunched up/crying thing for a few days. We give her it before every feed now. Might be different for breastfed babies though.

Decaffe · 01/10/2024 19:33

We leave Times radio on overnight as it’s just people talking. So it’s background noise but not white noise. Maybe it helps?! 😅

Does anyone have a link to a video of how you are swaddling please? DH tried it in the hospital but DS easily got his hands free. I wonder if the swaddle was tight enough. We tried the Snuzpod, the Moses basket and a Sleepyhead (the latter downstairs with supervision) again over the last 24 hours and were lucky if we get to ten minutes without screaming. 😔 And yet he loved being in his bassinet when we went out shopping today and slept all the way through for 2.5 hours!

Yeh Esme is breastfed so not sure will have to look it up. Tempted.to literally order some now off deliveroo.... It's been the toughest day I've just had a huge cry and breakdown

BakeOffRewatch · 01/10/2024 19:42

I have these from M&P from my first child www.amazon.co.uk/Mamas-Papas-Jersey-Cotton-Swaddle/dp/B07VXWNYXQ/ref=asc_df_B07VXWNYXQ/ aden+anais do them as well www.naturalbabyshower.co.uk/products/aden-anais-essentials-easy-swaddle-wraps-wild-prairie-3-pack . There’s a how to here www.adenandanais.co.uk/blogs/aden-anais/how-to-use-easy-swaddle I take the short bit and wrap it diagonally across so most of their arm is covered and tuck it under their back on other side. Then the long bit, again at a slight diagonal so most of their arm is covered, pick them up, wrap it around their back. I call them my little baby burrito. But since the colicky symptoms started I’ve backed off the swaddling, cos moving and writhing helps them get the gas and food out.

BakeOffRewatch · 01/10/2024 19:45

@Decaffe its just tight enough so they feel held, like as if their arms were in yours. The tucking it under their back is what stops them undoing it I think?

How are toddler mums with babies doing? I was deep asleep for nursery run this morning, DH did it. I actually want to do it though so I have a routine and get out the house.
