Saw we hit page 40, so figured I'd get a head start on the next thread just in case!!

Oh gosh, I just thought, there may not be very many more of these threads - I wonder if this one may even be the last?!

HUGE congrats to @MudandMoet on their gorgeous wee one!!
Best of luck on your way home this afternoon/this evening, I'm desperate to ask all about what it was like but I'll avoid that as I don't want anyone to get nervous/anxious about what's to come!!

Super glad you're feeling mostly okay and so so SO happy for you! <3

@kc92 I used the ready made Aptamil bottles in the hospital for the first day and night then switched to powder formula as soon as I got home. I didn't notice any difference in her after switching at the start. After a few days she was screaming/crying after a bottle. I got some infacol and switched from cow and gate to SMA and she's fine since then. I had planned to combi feed but I'm hardly getting any breast milk. The formula is working well for us though. She never lost any weight which is apparently very common after birth.
I was worried she was getting too much as after a week she was taking a 4oz bottle which seems like far too much according to google. Midwife and health visitor said not to worry as she will take what she wants/needs.

Wanderlust86 · 28/09/2024 11:14

Also, like @SantasRubiksCube said I find a dummy settles her really quickly. She was constantly rooting in the first few days and as soon as I gave her a dummy she would stop and go to sleep. I know not everyone wants to use them though.

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 28/09/2024 12:25

@SantasRubiksCube Yep thankyou every suggestion helps! But yes we've got a dummy for her too! Sometimes it soothes her and then other times she just spits it straight out, she's not that bothered about it! 😫 and it's the same size teat as the bottle but still not bothered

WinsandSam · 28/09/2024 16:50

Does anyone else's baby just sleep all day?!? Is that normal 😂 she literally just snoozes, wakes for a feed every 3 hours or so and falls asleep on the boob. Hard life!
Nights she is more awake, typically and only sleeps from the early hours

@TripleESept24 I have this one and rate it for how cheap it was!

One Fire Baby Night Light Kids... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BTNHH7TR?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare

TripleESept24 · 28/09/2024 18:30

@WinsandSam thanks I've ordered that one to give a go!

Yes Esme sleeps alot in the day. Tends then to not settle or sleep until 1am or later...... She's only a week old so each night has been different but the last two nights she is settling better in her crib early hours of morning for a couple of hours 🤞

sorchanim · 28/09/2024 19:31

Saw the gynae on Thursday. My midwives will deliver in the birthing suite until 41+6 so I have a pre-induction booked for the evening of 7 October (41+6). They would normally recommend induction at 41 weeks but the gynae was really cool and let me have control over my decision, she wasn't pushy at all. Still hoping that something takes off in the coming days - although I can't quite believe that I'm actually going to give birth and bring a baby home!!

@UnicornRainbow2 I'm also Sep 24th, and same as yourself I feel fine, have no pain and no signs! I've started to get pretty tired and need more sleep the last two or three days, so maybe that's something?
It's my first child and the head wasn't engaged at 39 weeks although it is now, and so I've never really expected it to be happening before next week, so I haven't even finished 'nesting', still doing jobs around the house! Best of luck with the coming few days!

@TripleESept24 I bought the KORNSNÖ light from IKEA: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/kornsnoe-led-night-light-white-rabbit-battery-operated-00433720/
It's battery operated so you can move it around. You just push down and it turns on, and it turns itself off after 15 mins. I have been using it in my bedroom until baby comes just to get used to it and really like it so far.

KORNSNÖ white, rabbit LED night light, battery-operated - IKEA

This white LED rabbit night light is perfect for kids. Battery-operated and rigorously safety-tested, it provides a gentle glow for a brighter, safer night.

sorchanim · 28/09/2024 19:32

@WinsandSam I visited my friend yesterday who has 5 week old twins and they just ate and slept, they were hardly ever awake if they weren't feeding! Just had a feed and a change and went back to sleep. Hard life indeed!

Kiwi23 · 28/09/2024 20:49

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 28/09/2024 08:04

One tired mummy here! I have a little lady who seems to sleep all day - we even have to wake her for feeds cus if we leave her she won't wake and ask for it and I've been trying to feed more in the day because at night time she is up the majority of the night! 🙈

from around 7pm - 8pm she becomes really unsettled and wants feeding constantly (formula fed) for hours and hours. She'll fall asleep on the bottle then as soon as we put her down she wakes up and starts rooting again. And does this the entire night, she got to a point where she was just throwing her milk straight back up, obviously overfeeding...but wanted nothing other than the bottle 😫

@BeautyAndTheBump1 my little one was doing this for about 3-4 days midwife said it sounds like a growth cycle and then last night she acherly settled in her own crib straight away after a feed but we will see what tonight brings

PinkWatermelon88 · 28/09/2024 21:43

@SantasRubiksCube canni ask you a question about the dummy please?? My first wouldnt take one and I’d love for my second to have one. But I can’t seem to get it to work for us!
Shes tiny, born 7lb 2oz but has been hovering around the 6lb 7oz since and her wee head is not much bigger than a dolls. I have about 10 dummy’s of all shapes and sizes and even the smallest one she gags at. Like proper gags as if she’s going to spew. I’ve tried holding it in for ages and sometimes the gag reflex softens other times she does spit it and spew. No matter what the brand! Is this normal!? How do I get her to take it? She’s 9 days old x

SantasRubiksCube · 28/09/2024 21:52

@PinkWatermelon88 I would suggest still using the smallest sized teat one and rather then placing it in her mouth for her, kind of let her root it out herself and try sucking it in maybe? Sorry I'm no expert 😅 all of mine would sometimes gag on a dummy in the early days and weeks even on ones that were same size/shape as bottle teats the only thing I found helpful was to just touch it to their lips and let them take it into their mouth rather then putting it straight into their mouth as soon as they opened it. Some babies just don't particularly like dummies and find other ways of getting comfort or settling, it's whatever works for them (and you). I don't know if you can buy especially small teat dummies, like the ones they give to premature babies in hospital? 🤔

PinkWatermelon88 · 28/09/2024 22:46

Im def guilty of just shoving it in for sure @SantasRubiksCube sonill try your tips!!! And see if I can hunt out premmie dummy’s too! Thanks so much xxx

WinsandSam · 29/09/2024 00:06

@TripleESept24 sounds the same as Ruby! Loves a day sleep but will fight the night ones 🤪 she's also a week old and is getting better in her cot but only 2 hrs before waking. Can't complain really

@sorchanim that's good to know! Good luck with your induction but hopefully baby arrives before.

Demi55 · 29/09/2024 05:36

@BakeOffRewatch @Caroline2023 @PinkWatermelon88 @malimoon thank you! Sorry I haven’t been on in a while, was on the ward for a while, so happy to be home with our little girl now :)

WinsandSam · 30/09/2024 07:21

Poor little girl is really struggling since last night. Seems like wind/tummy pain. Can't lie on her back without straining or screaming so sad to see. Couldn't get her in her cot at all and ended up falling to sleep with her on my chest. Only way she could get comfortable and not cry. Feel bad though as know risky.

Any other babies having this issue? She's only 10 days old

Not as bad here but my 2 week old DS has been super fussy this weekend with wind/gas, it tends to be around this age it starts unfortunately. I've found gentle clockwise tummy massage and cycling legs helpful, also holding them in the sort of superman hold while gently moving their bum around helps, I'm not explaining it well if I find the video I'll post it 😂

SantasRubiksCube · 30/09/2024 09:59

I can't find the particular video I watched but it's the colic hold not superman 😂 there's lots of videos on YouTube how to get relieve gas, you basically have to get some movement through the tummy and hips area to stimulate their intestines and bowels, because they are just laying still alot of the time the milk can just sit in there fermenting a little and causing gas. Also their digestive system is still just beginning to work so gas is very common at this age. Hope you find something that helps and your little one gets some relief soon x

tierneytarny · 30/09/2024 10:23

Checking in on what was our due date. Baby boy has slotted right in and we can’t remember life without him. Feeding well and didn’t lose an oz on day 3 which was so reassuring.
Difficult night last night but throughout I just kept thinking how much I adore him.
Aren’t we just so lucky?!
To the mamas still waiting; your babies will be here in your arms so so soon. Wishing you lots of good labour vibes and luck Xx

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 30/09/2024 11:58

@WinsandSam my girl has been struggling too, we've tried all the massages etc but we also have to be careful moving her tummy/legs too much because if we do she projectile vomits all her milk up.

So I went and brought some infacol yesterday and just gave her 1 dose last night and she was trumping like a trooper the rest of the night 🤣 seemed to really help!

WinsandSam · 30/09/2024 12:31

@BeautyAndTheBump1 Aaww bless her. So horrible for them! This girl trumps A LOT!!! I'm hoping it was just a one off for now as she seems much better today. Will get some infacol tomorrow if not. Have Dentinox but you have to give so much, there's no way she'd drink that

WinsandSam · 30/09/2024 12:37

@SantasRubiksCube thank you! Will have a little look. Been hard to touch her tummy due to her cord but it fell off today 🥳 so now can try a tummy massage.

@tierneytarny I'm with you on the difficult night last but but you just can't be annoyed as they're so cute and precious 💕 health visitor out today and she's back to her birth weight too so feeding must be going well

Emmaev · 30/09/2024 13:04

Indie only settles in the crib at night for an hour or 2 then she’s on and off the boob from about 2-8 am. Then she sleeps a lot of the day and cluster feeds late afternoon/evening for a few hours. It’s exhausting. She has started to take her morning naps in her crib though for a couple hours so moving in the right direction. but she has to be swaddled and have white noise. She still flat out refuses a dummy and her little disgusted face is cute haha

Good news today though she had her hip scan for clicky hips and all looks perfectly normal. She also had a look at her sacral dimple and said it looks all good. Just needs to be reviewed by the gp at the 6-8 week appointment.

Decaffe · 30/09/2024 15:09

@TripleESept24 @WinsandSam how is the sleeping going? Were you able to speak with your midwives about potentially co sleeping? I am curious as to what they said if so? 😊

WinsandSam · 30/09/2024 15:12

@Decaffe oh I totally forgot! I haven't done it yet apart from last night when she slept on my chest but that was a one off.
Up until last night she'd been improving and having 1-3hr stints in her cot over night.
I'm going to try and persevere with the cot but know I'll get desperate if she continues to be so unsettled and may move into the spare room with her so we can co sleep

malimoon · 30/09/2024 16:13

Lads I'm so keen for this baby to get here!! He's only 3 days overdue but I really don't want to wait a whole nother week for him 😭😭 I know there's nothing really I can do (I'm getting out for a walk everyday to try and shake him loose!), just sharing my impatience
