@PlumpHobbit it might be lack of water an I know there is a recommendation of 3 litres a day in pregnancy, but I could never! I fill up a 1 litre bottle of weak cordial every day and it's an achievement to finish that

IMBCRound2 · 19/09/2024 12:11

@PlumpHobbit its a not great look but you can get adhesive migraine ice packs to stick to your face but they do help.

IMBCRound2 · 19/09/2024 12:13

My midwife is an absolute wonder and chased on her day off so I’d get my scan results 😍

All clear - now just wait until my 20 week- end crossing my fingers I get to hear the heartbeat at my 16 week.

veggiebuns · 19/09/2024 12:17

@PlumpHobbit I've been suffering with daily headaches. Some so awful it's felt more like a migraine. I've never been a big water drinker, can't stand the stuff. But they have improved hugely since I started forcing myself to drink more. There's still no way I clear 3 litres, but increasing my water intake and actually wearing my glasses has helped!

PlumpHobbit · 19/09/2024 13:19

Thank you for all the advice re headaches, I'm awaiting a call with the doctor just to check all ok (there were no appointments soon as I said I'm pregnant I was added to an urgent list!)

Just had our screening tests through the post, all 1 in 5000 so have started telling more people, it suddenly feels incredibly real!

Going to book a private scan to try and get the gender at 16 weeks (why do I sense it won't play ball, we already have form!!) We both want to know and I'm incredibly nosey 😂 going to try and keep it a surprise for my mum as she always says it's nice when people don't find out and get a surprise!

So funny, my mum said it's so lovely when people wait until the birth for a surprise. As soon as I told her SHE could wait for a surprise and we were finding out, she suddenly changed her mind and wanted to know 😂
She couldn't even bear the fact that we made her wait until the evening when we found out in the morning!

lipgoss · 19/09/2024 13:59

We're not finding out anyways, but my mum says exactly the same and has been adamant that if we did find out she doesn't want to know! We'd already decided not to, but I think definitely easier all round to keep it a surprise as if I knew I wouldn't be able to not give it away with what I was buying, nursery decor etc!

26dX · 19/09/2024 14:56

Ahh I'm finding out Saturday, too impatient 🤭

IMBCRound2 · 19/09/2024 15:45

my little one was stroking my belly and goes ‘baby could be a girl? Or baby could be a boy? Or baby could be a boy/girl? Or maybe baby could be a helicopter ?’

so really anything goes in our house apparently . I’m just hoping it’s one of the first three because I do not fancy giving birth to a helicopter.

AdventuresInMothering · 19/09/2024 16:11

STILL waiting for 12 week screening results, 16 days and counting! Been all round the houses today trying to get hold of someone at the hospital, had to try 3 different numbers before I could find out which was the correct one, and it's been "line busy" all afternoon! Should I just go to the hospital and ask in person?? So stressed out, wish I'd just paid for the harmony test weeks ago

🤣🤣

Got my screening results today. I assume it’s the adjusted scores I need to look at? Those are 1:17313 and 1:20000 so I guess we’re okay 😅

It’s such a relief isn’t it?!

Good luck giving birth to your new helicopter, maybe she's right about both and its budgie the helicopter 😂

Ellsx6 · 19/09/2024 18:17

@AdventuresInMothering don't you have the maternity number? That's who I called for mine. It seems common that peoples results are getting 'lost'. Hopefully that hasn't happened to you!

Ellsx6 · 19/09/2024 18:27

@Muffin101 both of my results came back as 1 in 5000 chance which I thought was low given my nt measurement was 1.6 and I'm in my early 20s. My midwife said some trusts are moving over to max they can say is 5000 panic over!!

my midwife chased for me (but that was after the consultant got confused and said it hadn’t been done in the first place !)- however she said that you need to speak to the screening team rather than midwives . There might be an email address they can provide for you? They emailed my midwife in the end … (and of course the letter came two days afters!!)

in the meantime - no news is good news. If you haven’t heard bad news within the week , the letter is just added reassurance (says the woman who promptly burst into tears when hers finally came)

UncharteredWaters · 19/09/2024 19:29

Our hospital trust operate a no new is good news policy that is pish.
basically unless high risk they don’t contact you and expect you to wait to your 16 week appt.
everyone just ends up contacting the midwives for them.
would I want to wait for a Pataus or edwards result of 1/151 just because it’s low risk - hell no!

Jellybelly888 · 19/09/2024 19:55

I had mine on Friday last week and got told if we hadn’t heard by yesterday then it should be all fine. I think I will feel a lot better when I get the letter to confirm that though! I didn’t have this with my DS as we paid for NIPT straight away due to previous losses. So this is all new to me!

lipgoss · 19/09/2024 20:15

Did a 16 week private scan today just to check in and break up the 8 week wait! Bean was wriggling away and all looking great so far ☺️
She did tell me I've an anterior placenta though, so probably at least a few more weeks for me before I feel anything. But glad to know now, before I started worrying in a couple of weeks

PlumpHobbit · 19/09/2024 20:17

I had my 2nd attempt scan (baby refused to play ball for measurements at the first) last Monday and only today got my results (all 1 in 5000)

She said if it's worrying you'll heat "very quickly" but it was horrible waiting for them to come through as a) you don't know how quick very quickly is, and b) have been holding off telling more people until you know its not one that warrants investigation

Why we are still relying on post in this day and age who knows - I'm someone who likes something in writing but why can't it be sent as an email attachment then follow up by being posted! Just looked and my letter is dated 13th September!!

horchatatresleches · 19/09/2024 21:13

I was also told I'll hear "quickly" if it's not good news but was told not to worry about it and it will probably be fine when I asked what quickly actually meant. They did say within days, but still not super clear.

Has anyone booked a maternity/newborn photo shoot and would mind sharing costs? I've emailed a few local photographers who do beautiful, natural looking photos and I'm really not sure what to expect on pricing. They all only have their wedding pricing on their websites.

m00ngirl · 19/09/2024 22:32

Congrats @lipgoss !!

I also had a private 16 week scan just to enjoy seeing baby, as the 12 week is obviously quite intense. It was lovely. I wanted the sex to be a surprise and told the sonographer so she showed us the head etc but I couldn't see much, I really struggle to make anything out, so I said don't worry about showing us whole of baby as I really struggle to make out anything on ultrasounds anyway (true) so I'd never be able to work out the sex.

HOWEVER she then put 4D on which I hadn't anticipated, and it was incredible to see baby in such detail, but baby also gave us a full blown crotch shot 🙈 😂 which she gave us as the photo to take away.. it's very very clear what I'm having... so just a warning to others!

However I'm so happy to have had such a good look at baby, surprise or no surprise, not a big deal, just wonderful to see 😍

m00ngirl · 19/09/2024 22:35

Btw I have anterior placenta too, I do feel bursts of weird sensations sometimes which I assume are little movements, but am aware we'll probably feel much less than most... another thing to try to make us worry 😬 must try not to!

Ellsx6 · 19/09/2024 22:41

Nearly 17 weeks and flying to Spain tomorrow for our baby moon!🤣 had a scan today just for peace of mind before we leave. He looked like he was rubbing his eyes in the clip of the 4D we have. Just amazing!! I have a posteria placenta and been feeling him for over a week now and there getting stronger and more frequent.

Ps still don't believe I'm pregnant!! When will I?!

@m00ngirl thank you, and same to you! It was such a nice scan to have, so glad we did it (and that I ignored my husband who said there was no need!)

We're waiting on a surprise as well, but accepting that it might become clear by accident on a scan, nothing you can do if baby wants to show you, as you've discovered 😂

Although hubs is sure it's a boy as 'thinks he saw something' but I'm not convinced he did. Not that I necessarily think it's a girl but I'm the same as you and can't identify anything unless it's pointed out, and even then find it pretty sketchy, so didn't see anything at all that I thought might have indicated either way. Could be the cord that he saw too. So still a mystery for now!

Have a great holiday @Ellsx6! We're going away in November and for the first time maybe ever I can't wait to wear my swimsuit!
