Continuation from thread 7 over here; https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/pregnancy/5070517-september-2024-thread-7?page=40

Can't believe we filled the last thread up already feels like it wasn't even made that long ago, gosh time is absolutely flying by!!

@WinsandSam - I'll have to ask about CBT for sure, thanks so much for the recommendation - maybe I'll actually get some help seeing as I'm pregnant!

I've been trying to get mental health support for... Well to be honest since teen-hood and realising my daily crying was not in fact "just my period/puberty" as every doctor told me it was (all males ofc, typical 🙄) so I don't hold out much hope if I'm being honest.
I originally wanted to wait until my MH was sorted before ttc, but after over a decade I was running out of fertile time frankly, so here I am still with crazy anxiety and emotional dysregulation, but what can ya do?! 😅

As requested a new thread for us all! 🥰 can't believe its thread 7 already! Then hopefully by thread 14 we'll all have our babies in our arms talkin...

@RosiePH I don't blame you. I've been on iron for a few weeks now and everything is sooooo slow. Lactulose is the only thing that helps and doesn't fully work 😭 can't wait for normal digestion to resume!

Wanderlust86 · 13/07/2024 11:05

The tonic water seemed to help the cramps last night as I only got up once compared to 6 times the previous night! I did drink nearly a whole bottle of it though 😆

What do people think about white noise type things? I've got all the essentials now but I'm considering a white noise machine. Are they worth it? Are they needed? If so, are there any particulary good ones?

tryingfortwo2 · 13/07/2024 12:37

@Wanderlust86 glad it seems to have helped!

We have a DreamEgg with our girl for white noise. It definitely a huge difference when she was tiny, like newborn to say 6 months-ish? If she was crying in her pram/cot trying to get to sleep and I switched on the white noise, she instantly settled. Will definitely be getting one for this baby too.

You always see them right next to the cot but the point of them is to drown out external noise, so they’re supposed to be near a door/window/noise source.. I couldn’t decide so ours is sort of in the middle of the room 😂 she’s just turned 2 and whilst I’m not fully convinced it does much anymore, it’s part of her routine and I suppose just another sleep cue to add to the sleepy vibes, so I’ve just stuck with it…

LSW82 · 13/07/2024 13:34

My boys two & we still use the white noise machine. Just got one with loads of sound options off Amazon, it also has option to go all night where some stop after a while.
When he was a baby it def helped settle him, now it's good at drowning out 'house noise' while he sleeps!!

Wanderlust86 · 13/07/2024 14:37

Sounds good, I'm sold. I'll have a look on amazon. The dream egg looks good and is reasonably priced. Thanks 😊

Lillers · 13/07/2024 14:56

Anyone looking to buy things on Amazon, be aware that Prime Day is coming up this week so maybe hold off any purchases until then!

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 13/07/2024 14:59

We have Ollie the Owl...still...my DS is 4 years old 😂 I asked him if he wanted to give it his baby sister when she arrives, he said 'no thankyou, she can have her own.'

We always joke and say his future wife is going to be pissed off with us when theyre in bed at 30 and still got Ollie the Owl playing next to their head 😂

Xur · 13/07/2024 15:11
hungry fat bastard GIF

@MudandMoet I just poured some milk in a regular coffee cup, microwaved it for 1 minute, then added a spoon of honey, whisked and had it.
First I had one sip, felt instant relief as it went down and chugged the rest like the fat bastard I am now 😅😂

MudandMoet · 13/07/2024 16:01

@Wanderlust86 we have been recommended Ewan the sheep by a few people now who have said it's absolutely priceless (especially if used right from birth with the light too) We've got a mamaroo bassinet for the beside now and that has white noise built in so Ewan will be demoted to the downstairs Moses basket.

@Xur 😂 thanks!

PinkWatermelon88 · 13/07/2024 16:58

@MudandMoet @BeautyAndTheBump1 im between the sheep and the owl 😂 I have a normal white noise from Amazon for #1 but I’ve heard amazing things about the sheep and owl. Do they stay on all night?

rupertbear91 · 13/07/2024 17:13

@MudandMoet have a look on vinted I got our Ewan brand new in box for £10. My brother has one for his baby and says it's great I haven't figured out how to work it yet 😂

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 13/07/2024 17:27

@PinkWatermelon88 Ollie doesn't stay on but has a cry sensor (it's not a cry sensor it's a 'any form of sound or movement anywhere near it' sensor 😂) so my sons is basically on most of the night

HRP1990 · 13/07/2024 17:30

Some baby monitors have white noise built in - just FYI if you’ve already bought one of those!

@Lillers I’m patiently waiting for prime day so I can order basically everything 😂

SC126 · 13/07/2024 17:55

I’m didn’t rate Ewan the sheep with my eldest. It gobbled batteries and I found the sound awful. We just used a white noise app on our phones and had it playing all night. My son liked fan noise the best 😂

tryingfortwo2 · 13/07/2024 19:30

We had a Ewan and a mini owl - the portable one? Didn’t rate Ewan at all, if anything he drove us all mad and yes to the battery eating. Mini Ollie was handy for the car seat/pram.

Wanderlust86 · 13/07/2024 19:56

I've now got a Ewen, Ollie and dreamegg in my amazon basket 😆 I will read some reviews and wait for prime day to order one. I guess what one baby loves another may hate.

My partner is making homemade pizza and then we are going to watch a few episodes of One Born every Minute. He has never seen it before so I thought it might prepare him a bit.

MudandMoet · 13/07/2024 21:03

@rupertbear91 you're kidding, I never even thought about Vinted for one! We paid £40 from amazon around a month ago. Bum!! I've not looked how to use it either but my brother and SIL also swear by it (their baby is 5 months now) I think it's motion activated from memory.

malimoon · 13/07/2024 22:05

@MudandMoet I would check Vinted first for everything! It's saved me so much money getting all the baby stuff in

MudandMoet · 13/07/2024 22:24

@malimoon I do have an account but never thought about it as it's not clothing I guess - I've got about £29 sat in my account too 🙄 what else do I neeeeeeed! I know.... another sleeping bag/pod thing in case the one I have gets shit on! 😊

Emmaev · 13/07/2024 22:33

@malimoon @MudandMoet i absolutely love Vinted. It’s saved me so much already. I just bought a few sleeping bags from there as from experience my daughter ended up ruining a few with poonamis. You go through baby items so fast, my daughter ruined so much with poos , we’ve currently only bought a car seat brand new.

PoppingUp · 14/07/2024 08:58

@Emmaev I also love vinted- I got my bbhugme from there and lots of lovely multipacks of barely or never worn baby bits. I think the only stuff I've bought not vinted has been a few bits in the frugi sale.

Did you use a swaddle at all with your first? And is it swaddle or sleep sack, not both? Sleep sacks are the one thing I've not bought yet but I'm a bit confused about whether I'd just be using a blanket with a swaddle at first anyway!

Emmaev · 14/07/2024 09:19

@PoppingUp I’ve bought a lot of bundles, everything that has arrived has been such high quality as well.

I swaddled my eldest daughter, and I’ve bought a few swaddle blankets for baby girl, sleeping bags are just easier for my partner as he could never get his head around swaddling haha

PoppingUp · 14/07/2024 09:32

@Emmaev haha that's a good point! Though I suspect I'll be the one pulling puzzled faces in our household!

My mum brought round a particularly strange 3 in 1 looking swaddle thing she'd seen advertised online and it looks much more complicated than the Little Seeds blanket ones I'd already bought in. I suspect that's going straight in the donate pile 😅.

I've currently got two separate drawers for things the respective grandparents keep turning up with so that I can make an effort to get baby into them at least once for a photo before shifting to using the more practical bits day to day. They've both got quite different aesthetics- one has picked out a newborn sized linen co-ord set and the other has chosen a big fluffy baby grow that says 'the king has arrived' 😂😂

longingtobe23 · 14/07/2024 14:30

Well… apart from blinds and mattress, lamp etc basically a lot of finishing touches I was so happy to be nearly done last night

then husband pierced the tiniest pipe with a screw - I’m so lucky he’s a bit of a whizz and it’s already been cut open, plastered and he’s repainting now! But I was flapping the new wallpaper, carpet all of it was going to ruin as it started dribbling out and the radiator had to be drained ☠️😂

live and learn this is life guys, stay safe out there pregnant DIYers 😂🙈

@longingtobe23 gorgeous nursery space!

my little one will have a ‘bedside nursery’ for while as we won’t have a spare room until we get the loft extension (if/when lol)

I am looking for some inspiration so I will go on Pinterest but I love the neutral colours you have gone for.

Any 3rd time mums having to expect siblings to eventually share bedrooms? Is it going down well? X x
