@Outliers I had a successful VBAC albeit needing forceps. I was induced with rods at 40+1 due to baby measuring above 97th percentile mixed with previous CS.

Well done and congratulations!

I have been so vehemently against inductions (pessary and pitocin) I never paused to consider that rods could be an alternative option.

wannabe123 · 17/07/2024 15:25

@Outliers every midwife/doctor/consultant I saw this pregnancy told me that they would not use a hormonal induction method for a VBAC

Sophie3003 · 17/07/2024 15:27

I was told balloon then break your waters then drip (if needs be) as cannot use the pessary etc at the beginning

SapphireSeptember · 17/07/2024 23:16

@MixedCouple2 That explains a lot! The consultant I spoke to today (a different one) also scared me half to death. The result of this is I'm booked in for an elective C section tomorrow.

@ceruleansky Oh, that sounds hard. You've got this mamma! The tiny baby stage won't last long. 💐

Yes indeed, that's why I'm having a c section. Seems completely the opposite of what I wanted, but I'd rather that than little one gets stuck.

@Jess725 Well, I started going into labour and lost my mucus plug. Then after getting fed up with the consultant not understanding what I wanted (bloke) I decided on elective c section. Not the water birth I wanted, but as long as little one is okay. 🥰 Sorry you're having a tough time too. 💐 Hope it all goes well for you! 0

Morningcoffeeaddict · 18/07/2024 06:22

@SapphireSeptember - my section was meant to be scheduled yesterday and was bumped to today as they had too many emergencies - our babies will have the same birthdays if all goes to plan today!

Good luck today! Have they talked to you about “gentle Caesarians”? Obviously not the same as a water birth but gives options for you to be involved (they can basically let mum pull baby out once the head and shoulders are out) and have a calmer environment (dimmed lights / aromatherapy etc) if your hospital supports those things for elective it might make you feel a little better.

Jess725 · 18/07/2024 07:08

@SapphireSeptember
Super good luck today! Sorry you didn’t feel
listened to. It really is going around. I spent the night with the pessary with tightenings already so I’m really hoping this is finally it! I also wanted spontaneous birth and water but was happy to compromise (of course induction being last resort, doh!) we are 11 days over now so I can’t do much more 😂❤️

enjoy meeting your baby eeeek!!

Oatmilktea · 18/07/2024 08:56

@SapphireSeptember @Morningcoffeeaddict good luck today, so exciting that you get to meet your babies today!! Let us know how your c sections go 🩷🩵

Sounds like there could be 3 new babies today! Good luck everybody 💕

missmoosh · 18/07/2024 09:12

Good luck today ladies! How exciting there will be potentially so many babies!
How many of us are left now waiting on our arrivals?
I have the attempt for sweep two today, albeit the first one couldn’t happen because they couldn’t get to my cervix. Not holding out any hope things will have changed by today, but we shall see!

Welshgal85 · 18/07/2024 10:06

I’m being induced today, just waiting for the call to go in! I’m feeling so nervous!

missmoosh · 18/07/2024 10:20

@Welshgal85 ahh good luck!! Hopefully not too long to wait until you get the call!

Cherubs4 · 18/07/2024 10:20

All the best for those expecting babies today 💙💛💚💜🧡

@SapphireSeptember I really feel you're making a good decision if your baby will be so big - I had a baby that was 11lbs 7 and he wouldn't progress more than 4cm .. we didn't know he was so big until he came out. If I'd known, I would have been induced far earlier. My first child was 9lbs and her shoulders were stuck in my pelvis (shoulder dystocia). I dread to think what might have happened if I hadn't had a cesarean when he stuck at 4cm. I just had a feeling something wasn't right as my waters broke at 1230 and I immediately had contractions every 2 minutes but not contractions like my previous births, uncontrollable contractions that went down my legs to my knees and felt like my pelvis was getting pushed open. I got to the hospital 30 minutes later and had 4cm. Stayed that way for 6 hours despite the contractions being overwhelming and the midwife feeling that there was enough pressure on my cervix that he should have been progressing down. Then my blood pressure dropped and baby's heartrate went through the roof and I just knew something wasn't right if I kept trying to birth him like that. When they removed him from my womb, the whole room was in disbelief, all I heard was "wooooah, wooooow"... they have rarely had babies born of that size. Now they briefed me on what could have gone wrong if I'd birthed him vaginally - especially considering my previous shoulder dystocia - and the thought is really scary. I didn't even think of pelvic rupture. I have asked my midwifery practise how this could have been missed as I'm of really small build and was really enormous in my pregnancy. I think if you're given a warning then it's a blessing 🙏

@ceruleansky @wannabe123 Have also been struggling through the cracked nipples stage - for me it's about a week of pain and then seems to get better. I can recommend Medela hydrogel pads for soothing and healing. For milk production, I swear by lots of water and herbaceous tea and letting the baby come to breast as much as possible. I've never been great at pumping any decent quantities unfortunately so can't advice how to increase that

Bali200 · 18/07/2024 12:52

Baby girl arrived this morning at 9.01am 💗

I went into spontaneous labour last night at 41+2 after a pregnancy reflexology session yesterday afternoon which 100% did the trick.

It ended up in an emergency c-section after her heart rate dropped during contractions, turns out she had the cord wrapped around her neck 3 times, but she’s here and healthy and perfect in every way 💗💗💗

Good luck to those with babas arriving today and those left to come.

SapphireSeptember · 18/07/2024 13:13

I'm still waiting to go into surgery! Nevermind that I'm starving. I haven't eaten anything since I had my dinner last night. 😭 And they gave me my lunch but I'm not allowed to eat it, which is torture.

@Oatmilktea I'll let you know how it goes. 😊 If I actually get it done today!

@Cherubs4 That sounds so scary! Yes, I'm glad I had warning, and that I've made the decision that I have.

@Welshgal85 Good luck! 😊

@Bali200 Congratulations! That's wonderful. 😊

Roxystar23 · 18/07/2024 13:28

Congratulations to all the new Momma's! Good luck to those having inductions, sweeps & waiting for sections.

I've been booked in for a section on Monday. I had a little cry while signing the paperwork as reading the risk of maternal death statistic triggered something in me. The consultant asked why I was crying & when I told her, she responded with "Well, we will try our best!" - wasn't really the comforting response I was after.

Trying to wrap my head around not being pregnant past Monday - it's such a strange thought. I'm trying to cherish all the movements and wiggles and kicks in my belly as I don't know if I will ever be in a position to feel them again. I will be relieved to be rid of the waddle though! I never experienced this with my first pregnancy - I can't wait to be able to walk properly again!

Outliers · 18/07/2024 14:38

Went for a sweep today, midwife couldn't even reach the the cervix as it hasn't dropped at all :'(

Had a orgasmic sex as advised by midwife and gone for a walk. Will be having a vindaloo curry tonight and ramping up bounces on my yoga ball.

Another sweep arranged for next week when I'll be 40+3.

missmoosh · 18/07/2024 14:46

@Outliers sorry to hear that! Have you tried doing the activating labour YouTube video by babyweight tv? I went for a sweep a couple of days ago and they couldn’t reach cervix, did this video a couple of times yesterday and went for my second sweep again today, and they were able to do it ☺️ going to be doing it a couple of time again today and tomorrow!

Outliers · 18/07/2024 15:13

@missmoosh I hadn't heard of this, but your experience and the testimonies I'm seeing under the comments has inspired me to give this a try repeatedly over next few days. Thanks for sharing!

Busyhedgehog · 18/07/2024 15:52

Congratulations to all the new babies. 😊

I've surprisingly been sent to the hospital for induction earlier today. I've had the first dose with the gel already and now waiting for things to happen. Got some issues going on at home and my doctor was worried the stress would prevent any contractions.

missmoosh · 18/07/2024 16:06

@Outliers the comments section both made me laugh and also immediately want to try it! Hope you have success!

@Busyhedgehog sorry to hear there are some issues at home, hope the induction goes smoothly for you so you don’t have any further stress!

Cherubs4 · 18/07/2024 17:10

@Outliers might I also recommend raspberry leaf tea!

wannabe123 · 18/07/2024 17:25

Congratulations @Bali200
Hope everything is ok @Busyhedgehog

Morningcoffeeaddict · 18/07/2024 20:02

@SapphireSeptember - hope they managed to get you in today! The hunger waiting for a section is the worst part I’m sure!!

@Bali200 - congratulations on your arrival!!

@Roxystar23 - the registrar who went through the consent form with me said it’s basically the same risk as crossing the road or getting in a car, we just don’t sign consent forms for that so don’t get faced with the numbers every time we do it. (Edit to tag the right person!)

Baby boy arrived this morning by c section weighing in at 7lbs 5 and we’re both recovering well. Hopefully home in the next day or so.

wannabe123 · 18/07/2024 20:31

Congratulations @Morningcoffeeaddict
