@Oatmilktea
Thank you for the new thread!!

@wannabe123
Unfortunately for us I think the acid reflux and frequent peeing is going to follow us up until delivery! Agree with you on the annoying complaints ppl have too. DH has diabetes and cholesterol and keeps eating snacks and sweets that ppl bring home to me. I don't care about him eating it, since I'm staying away from all that due to my acid reflux. What annoys me is him complaining about his tummy or this or that when he's clearly eating things he's not supposed to.

I have succeeded in keeping family away thus far just to avoid hearing comments. My mother in law and sister in law visited and had a lot to comment on how less I'm eating and how small my tummy is. Whereas my doctor has told me that I'm only allowed to gain 2lbs more (I'm up 28 lbs so far at week 30). So contradictory.

Oatmilktea · 21/05/2024 17:16

Sorry to hear about all the insomnia! I suppose that’s why a lot of people say newborn tired is nowhere near as bad as pregnancy tired.

My health visitor made contact today to arrange her antenatal visit. Has anyone had a visit before baby was born and can let me know what to expect?

missmoosh · 21/05/2024 17:45

@Oatmilktea my health visitor came the other week. Don’t think it’s actually going to be the same person. She was here for about an hour! Had general discussions about how pregnancy is going, whether I wanted the pathway that has fewer or more visit later postpartum. Gave me some leaflets and bits. 😊

wannabe123 · 21/05/2024 17:57

@Oatmilktea I had a letter saying that they're not doing them at the moment in our area because they are so short staffed! I had a phone call from a HV with my first before he was born and they just talked about safe sleep and things like that.

Jess725 · 21/05/2024 22:42

Thanks for setting new one @Oatmilktea ☺️

sorry to hear about the insomnia girlies, it really is rough being wide awake
at 4am! I wouldn’t say I have insomnia just up in the night needing the loo and nighttime acid reflux is a lot 😬 and on the other thread I mentioned baby gets hiccups every night 😂 it’s wild!!!

Intriguing about growth scans ☺️must be lovely to firstly know all ok but also to nosey in on weight and things! I have my 34 week appointment on Fri eeek!

Welshgal85 · 21/05/2024 23:19

Thanks for the new thread!

I have the bbhugme pillow too and I’m so glad I got it, it’s so comfy! I’ve been having trouble sleeping too, I’ll wake up for the loo around 4am then I’m wide awake!

AnonymousXXIX · 22/05/2024 05:18

Another one here needing to wee and then being wide awake 🎉

BananaHammock23 · 22/05/2024 07:39

Morning! Just checking in on the new thread. I haven't been active in a while on the old one because I feel like I've had nothing to report!

Also have terrible heartburn, getting through Rennies like they're sweets.

We've moved my 2.5 year old into his own room after cosleeping since he was a baby, so sleep isn't going too well here either. We're shattered! I wish we'd done it sooner so I could've got a longer period of proper restful sleep before the baby comes.

I recently found out I should've been seeing a specialist pre-term consultant throughout my whole pregnancy as DS was born at 35 weeks after my waters broke at 30 weeks. I should've had cervical length scans from 16-28 weeks but wasn't offered them because of an incompetent midwife. They say it's too late now as nothing they can do if I am likely to go early. So now feeling pretty lost! I've got my first meeting with the consultant tomorrow so will see what they say. I might decline the scan as I don't know how it will serve me knowing I'm likely to go early again, other than to panic me!

Morningcoffeeaddict · 23/05/2024 07:27

@BananaHammock23 - I’m so sorry the midwife failed to refer you when they should have! Hopefully this baby will stay put for you but annoying to know they could/should have given you extra appointments etc.

hope the appointment goes well today!

Morningcoffeeaddict · 23/05/2024 07:29

On the subject of things I’ve just found out - not sure if all hospitals do this, assume it’s trust specific, but just found out the pelvic health physios at my local hospital run postnatal clinics for all mums and you can self refer postnatally if you have any concerns. I feel like all mums should probably get a pelvic health check anyway and it’s annoying we don’t as standard but might be worth checking out if your hospitals have secret services like this too!

Busyhedgehog · 23/05/2024 14:48

Had my 32 week appointment today. They don't do centiles here but she's apparently 45cm and about 1800g, which is considered average. 😊 She's currently still breech but will hopefully turn before the 37 week cut off.
I'll be seeing my OB/GYN every two weeks now and had my first CTG today as well. Home stretch...

My heartburn seems worse at night, which is really annoying. Getting up for a wee and then I cannot go back to sleep because of the heartburn. Glamorous side of pregnancy.
Nobody has commented on my size as such (except our neighbour, who likes to try and wind me up and keeps asking whether I'm having triplets...he's not the most slender being, either, mind). The receptionist today asked whether I had put a dress on to look extra pretty for them today. 😂 No,...but my maternity shorts are a bit uncomfortable when I'm driving.

BananaHammock23 · 23/05/2024 19:12

Thank you @Morningcoffeeaddict!

All good today! My cervix is 'beautiful' apparently 😂 long, closed and posterior so exactly as it should be at 34 weeks which is a relief!

Feels crazy thinking I could go for another 6 weeks or more when DS was born 10 days from where I am now in this pregnancy!

Morningcoffeeaddict · 23/05/2024 19:14

@BananaHammock23 thats great news! Must have been very reassuring to hear!

Getting passed that milestone is such an amazing but nerve wracking point in a post-preemie pregnancy. DS was born at 28+6 so being still pregnant at 31+2 currently is blowing my mind

Yummum19 · 23/05/2024 19:49

Thanks for the new thread!

I had a positive growth scan this week and baby boy has gone from 3rd to 5th centile, so they are much happier now. Consultant has said they will be looking to induce me though as he is still small so I will now have a June baby!!

I’m so not ready shopping wise, has anyone got any recommendations for good baby slings/carriers? I bought one for my last baby but it didn’t feel very supportive - or maybe I was just using it wrong! Really hoping to baby wear as much as possible for things like the school run.

wannabe123 · 23/05/2024 20:25

@Yummum19 glad you had a positive growth scan 🙂 I think/hope I'll have a June baby too. Not sure I can last another 7/8 weeks. I've got the opposite problem that baby is huge and it's getting so uncomfortable.

In terms of carriers/slings, do you have a sling library near you? What some people find the most comfortable isn't necessarily the same for some one else. With our first, I used to love the stretchy wrap and found it so comfortable and secure in the early days whereas my husband preferred the more structured carrier.

justanotherlaura · 23/05/2024 21:54

@Yummum19 it was a bit expensive but this is the sling we have, I loved it for my
first and will use it again this time. We had a second hand sling before and it was painful on my back after a while. This one I can wear most of the day (and did on vaccination days when he just wanted to he held all day)

Morningcoffeeaddict · 23/05/2024 22:08

@Yummum19 - that’s great news the growth scan went well.

We have an ergobaby omni360 (think that’s what it’s called) and both my husband and I loved it with our son. It is quite structured though so better for out of the house on walks etc and maybe a bit bulky for round the house- I’m thinking of getting an izmi baby carrier to go with it to use for home and more short term wear, looks a lot lighter weight and packs down really small which sounds good for summer heat and for days where you plan on taking the buggy but baby has other ideas! I haven’t got firsthand experience of it yet though - as above if you have a sling library near you that would be a good idea. It’s definitely a case of personal preference.

Amberellaella · 24/05/2024 07:13

Another vote for sling library here. It varies so much based on things you’ve never considered like your back length and distance from shoulder to boobs that you really need to try before you buy. We’ve got a stretchy wrap for the newborn phase and a mamaruga zebulo for later. Though I think you can use the zebulo from birth as well.

AnonymousXXIX · 24/05/2024 12:38

I got a stretchy free rider sling and an ergo baby 360 last pregnancy, both for nearly no money off FB market place. Used stretchy one at home and the other when out. Plan to do loads of that this time too as we did not bother to get a double pram!

Busyhedgehog · 24/05/2024 14:19

We've got a Lillebaby carrier. I tried the Ergobaby with DS and he hated it. Also tried the wrap things and neither of us was a fan.
The suggestion to go to a sling library is probably a good one. Since DD will be the second child, she'll just have to get on with it. 😁
I also only bought one type of bottle (I'm hoping to breastfeed again and DS despised all bottles) and two dummies (again, never really used them for DS). With DS we tried out different stuff. I'm not doing that this time round.

Yummum19 · 24/05/2024 14:42

Thank you for all the carrier recommendations and great suggestion about the sling library. I’ll have a research and see if there’s one near me!

Sophie3003 · 24/05/2024 14:58

@Yummum19 I used a sling library online and it was really good and the lady was really helpful. I can't remember the name and not sure if I will have any emails now but I will take a look.

Jess725 · 24/05/2024 17:49

ohhh sling advice! Thanks! I already have 3 at home kindly passed on to me but I feel like I won’t like them and need to buy another one 😂

just came back from 34 week midwife appointment (34 wks on Monday!)
did birth plan and was really pushed to be on MLU. Honestly, have no issue with that but, the hospital I’m giving birth at is having a revamp so the mlu is squashed at the bottom of a diff ward currently and it’s making me panic a bit as the rooms are now tiny and clearly quickly put together. Size of room shouldn’t matter but I know what I’m like and being claustrophobic and squeezed in does not sound like a calming place to be during birth🙈
I don’t want to be difficult and ask for the labour ward just because of space!!! But equally I want the hormones to be doing what they are supposed to be doing without me being anxious.
just ranting mainly but if you do have any advice ..😂❤️
hope you’re all doing ok!
let’s resume back to carriers and stretchy slings 😂👌
xxx

Sophie3003 · 24/05/2024 18:03

@Jess725 I had my 31 week appointment today and had the opposite discussion as I want MLBU but know in my consultant's appointment they will push for more medicalised and convenient delivery suite but the midwife and student were really helpful.

justanotherlaura · 24/05/2024 20:40

@Jess725 can you request to visit the MLU to see what it's like? I popped into the postnatal ward at my hospital after a scan and it helped to visualise where I'll be. I'm having a section this time but was in a MLU last time and it was a really nice calm environment but if it's temporary rooms it might not be the same. Ask your midwife if they'll do visits to help with anxiety
