If I remember correctly, they give you an estimated due date at the booking appt but you get your official due date at the 12 week scan.

It's been a couple of years so I could be misremembering!

Blueotterwhale · 09/06/2024 06:43

To all the new mummies asking about due dates you find out at your 12 week scan. That's the dating scan. Whilst the private ones are lovely and they give you due dates or estimates, the NHS only uses the 12 week scan to date

LauraJean1983 · 09/06/2024 07:26

@Mama2b99 @BeLemonQuoter are you from UK? The booking appointment basically takes all your details, weighs you, goes through family history, discusses your health and any previous pregnancies etc etc. they don’t give you a due date, that’s normally done at your dating scan x

LS888 · 09/06/2024 07:30

I’m still experiencing a bit of spotting. I called my midwife unit yesterday and they weren’t overly concerned but said they would call EPAU and give me a call back. I didn’t receive a call back. So felt a bit in limbo all day. The bleeding isn’t much but I had similar amounts with a mmc at 11 weeks with my first pregnancy. I’m trying to move my private scan a week earlier so I can have that as confirmation either way before my booking appointment on Tuesday as the NHS don’t seem to care.

Mama2b99 · 08/06/2024 20:11

Its my first midwife appointment tomorrow ! Will they tell me my due date? Or does that happen at first scan?

@Mama2b99 Can I just ask how far along are you for your booking in appointment? I got mine through the post and I’ll be nearly 10 weeks on that date, I had a missed call from the midwife team yesterday and they asked how I got the number as nobody had called me but I’d only called it back 🤣🙈 im thinking did someone try to rebook it or has it been cancelled or something now!

@LS888Aw I’m so sorry you’ve got this additional worry hanging over you, it’s a hard wait until 12 week scan and so worrying anyway. Like you say bleeding can be completely normal but can appreciate the worry you’re feeling, you just want confirmation and someone to listen/ have something booked in for reassurance. Maybe try 111 today and see if they can get you in to see someone today for some peace of mind?

BeLemonQuoter · 09/06/2024 08:46

@Bibby42 my first appointment is at 9+2 today.

I'm sorry @LS888 that's so stressful. If it's any comfort, I bled badly throughout my first trimester with my first pregnancy and he is currently running around like a madman in my kitchen.
If you're worried, perhaps call the EPAU directly. If the midwives have passed on the message, they'll know your situation and advise you, and if they haven't, then you'll be able to get some advice directly. I had lots of early scans at the EPAU last time for bleeding and they were great.

LS888 · 09/06/2024 12:24

Thanks @bootsroots and @Bibby42. The bleeding is only very minimal so I think my past experience of MC is taunting me. I’ve changed the date of my private scan to Tuesday morning as my husband is working from home and will be able to join me. Think if I went to EPAU tomorrow it would be by myself and not sure I could face that.

I’m trying to stay positive and not worry but it’s so hard not too isn’t it! But thank you for sharing positive stories. It does help to hear.

Firsttimetrier · 09/06/2024 12:26

Hope everyone is okay and doing well!

It’s been a strange few weeks for me as I feel absolutely normal but just a little tired, so preparing myself for bad news.

My little one has also been quite sick with some a&e visits (he’s all fine now though!) I’ve been so distracted with him that I totally forgot I have my first midwife appointment on Monday. Forgot to take time off work, but it’s through my lunch break so hoping I can go undetected and be back in time for my afternoon meeting!

Has anyone who is on their 2nd+ pregnancy had a really rough and sicky first pregnancy then felt normal/fine in the second one? Hoping the little bean is all okay in there and growing as expected!

Sopshef · 09/06/2024 12:57

@LS888 I had minor bleeding for a fortnight, and then it stopped. I had a haematoma and it reabsorbed, two scans and all is totally fine. It's so stressful, I dreaded going to the toilet in case it had ramped up.

B1989 · 09/06/2024 14:55

Sopshef · 08/06/2024 15:07

@B1989 are you! How many weeks are you? Are you going private? And will you find out the gender? Sorry lots of questions!
I think really I'd like one, DH is unsure as he's a bit whatever will be will be, but I think I'd like the heads up.

I’m 9+1 and am going private. Based in ireland and most people I know go private, seems to be the done thing here. Don’t think we will find out the gender, but you can from the test

ohpoowhatnow · 09/06/2024 15:17

My symptoms really seem to have dropped off this week, will be 9 weeks this week. Anyone else experienced the same?

DaringlyDizzy · 09/06/2024 17:11

Sopshef · 07/06/2024 11:03

@DaringlyDizzy if you don't mind me asking, are you having the NIPT test? I'm really considering going private for one, just for peace of mind but I don't know anyone who has had it.

Don't mind at all! I am not having it done xx

DaringlyDizzy · 09/06/2024 17:13

So I finally had my second scan after 15 days... all is well... theres a heartbeat and EPU are happy to discharge as long as I carry pessaries on.

However I am 100% sure of my dates and they have said im mesauring 6+2 when im DEFINTELY atleast 7+1. It has worried me slightly but I have another scan privately at 10 weeks for the gender blood test so I really hope all is well until then

I'm glad there was a little heartbeat. I wouldn't worry too much about the dating. Do you know that the amount of weeks starts from your LMP? It's because despite excessive tracking of ovulation, we can't know exactly when we conceived. So there's always going to be a few days difference in what we think. Also babies grow at different rates, so dates will fluctuate. Try not to worry :)

m8ybeb8by · 09/06/2024 17:42

@DaringlyDizzy

Hi, that is similar to me! I thought I was near 8 weeks but EPU scanned and said I'm 7 weeks.

I have also been discharged and referred to midwife provided that I continue with the progesterone pessaries.

Nervous but hoping this is a sticky one.

I'm currently looking into the NIPT test but not sure whether we will

LS888 · 09/06/2024 19:11

@Sopshef thanks for sharing too. I feel the same whenever I’m going to the toilet. It hasn’t ramped up at all- in fact it’s barely there. But been 2 days now. So just waiting for the private place to confirm a time for Tuesday am. And hoping everything is alright 🤞🏻

Havasham · 09/06/2024 20:09

@Firsttimetrier I feel the same, first pregnancy was hideous, so much sickness.. and this one has been much kinder. Now 10+2 and my nausea has gone, just feeling tired and saw a lovely wriggly baby on scan a few days ago. Keep positive! It ridiculous isn't it that you wish yourself to feel unwell 🙈

Sounds exactly the same. Booked a last min private scan this afternoon and saw a wriggly baby too. Dates are bang on, so feeling relieved!

BeLemonQuoter · 09/06/2024 21:39

I am feeling a bit hopeless today. We had our first booking test at lunchtime and everything was all right. Then me and my husband went shopping and in the middle of the shop I felt some trickling, so I went to the toilet and saw bright red blood. I got a bit emotional, or you might call that even hysterical, at that point and we ended at the a&e. Few hours and a gynaecologist appointment later I have been told that I will get a scan appointment booked in. My cervix is at least closed and the pregnancy hormones are very high(they are twins, so i expected that), I have been told, but I am still bleeding, I think, and I am afraid the worst. Any similar experiences? Maybe with positive outcome?

bootsroots · 09/06/2024 22:21

Oh I'm sorry @BeLemonQuoter. In my last pregnancy I had some spotting but one day had an absolute crime-scene style bleed. I was on holiday and phoned the midwives who said it's likely a miscarriage, look out for fever and do a pregnancy test in a few days to ensure it was negative or at least fading.
I did, and it was still a bright line so had a scan and all was fine except a haematoma. It was so confusing as we were convinced it was over (to the point I had a drink!) don't give up hope, but I know it is so scary. Fingers crossed

LS888 · 10/06/2024 07:23

@BeLemonQuoter hope everything is ok. I’ve shared about my bleeding on my other pregnancy WhatsApp group and lots have shared experiences of early bleeding with positive outcomes. Can you get a scan booked in to check? I have a private scan booked in for Tuesday and still feeling hopeful. It’s so hard though in these early days. Hoping for a positive outcome for you! 🤞🏻

BeLemonQuoter · 10/06/2024 09:54

Thank you @bootsroots and @BeLemonQuoter. I will try to get a scan booked in just to know for sure. Are the private scans able to tell you a medical assessment or is it just a pretty picture?

bootsroots · 10/06/2024 12:27

@BeLemonQuoter EPU may give you a scan if you call, but if you go private yes - they'll generally be able to tell you if everything's okay (I think they call them reassurance scans) but i have heard from some people that they don't always have great support if things are not as expected.
