We had a scan at our fertility clinic this morning. It wasn't our official early pregnancy scan more of a monitoring one for OHSS.

Doctor could see egg and yolk sac but embryo itself wasn't visible yet. I know it's early at 5+6 but I think I was really hoping to see a heartbeat... official pregnancy confirmation scan booked for June 11th which will be 7+6 and feels a very long way off currently.

Would you book a private scan in the meantime?

Good news today is that sac is in the right place so at least it's not ectopic which was a concern with our history

I'd wait! Easier said than done but only a day could make in difference in what you are able to see and it's so hard to pinpoint sometimes. You'll only get more anxious I think

Marney12 · 28/05/2024 12:14

@EnidH00pes I am pretty much in the same situation but a couple of weeks ahead of you!

I had an early scan at 5+3 to confirm everything was in the right place and we saw the gestational sac and yolk sac (but nothing else).

My next scan is tomorrow at 7+1 and really hoping we will see a heartbeat.

The last two weeks have actually flown by and I think we are now going to do a private scan every 2 weeks until we get to the 12 week NHS scan - it hasn’t felt too long and should be enough time for things to (hopefully) progress enough to give reassurance.

ChopChop2311 · 28/05/2024 14:54

I had an early scan too, today at 5+6. Only a gestational sac was seen. Was told either too early or same as last time (blighted ovum) so not sure how to feel!

Had some bloods drawn, and back in 48 hours for repeat. Feeling very deflated.

@ChopChop2311 that's so understandable, will you be able to go for another scan in a few weeks? A week or two will make a big difference in what can be seen

LS888 · 28/05/2024 14:56

@ChopChop2311 so sorry to hear that you don’t have a more positive experience today but hoping that 48 hours brings you more certainty xx

ChopChop2311 · 28/05/2024 14:56

@TerryRose they've said they'll discuss next steps after the results of my second lot of bloods on Thursday.

TerryRose · 28/05/2024 14:58

I'm finding the time really dragging , I haven't gone for a scan yet , I'm 9 weeks and I've only told people at work as I had to leave one day with sickness. I think I'm still in shock more so because it's my second and I can't believe that I'll have two kids hopefully but also guilt of how life will change for my first in not having all that time just for her and which I know is what a lot of parents feel and how I can love a baby as much as I love her which sounds awful but it's a feel feeling for me anyone else felt like that 🙈?

Violet1988 · 28/05/2024 15:26

I've just booked in with the midwives. Feels like a big step as I was avoiding doing it feeling like it might tempt fate. But I'm 7+1 today so decided it was time to get it done. Has anyone else not told anyone else yet, apart from my husband, this thread and the person who just answered my booking in call no one knows.

@TerryRose I still feel like that now and this if all goes to plan is number 4. But it's a totally normal feeling and when they are here you absolutely do love them as much as your existing children. Some how it just is possible x

LS888 · 28/05/2024 15:55

Time seems to stop doesn’t it @TerryRose! I have my scan booked in 3 weeks time. Hoping it won’t be too early and will be able to see something. But three weeks feels like a lifetime away!

In the meanwhile I’ve started to worry about double prams etc. and everything else we will need for 2 under 18 months 🤦🏼‍♀️

@Violet1988 literally just my boss and a few staff at school only because I was so nauseous and felt it was safer to say it in case I fainted off or something 🤣 my mother in law knows as my husband can't keep anything but haven't told any friends or family, last time we told everyone by 7 weeks and just felt it made it seem sooo long and I also don't want anyone let it slip in front of our toddler I'm hoping she won't notice until towards the end 🤣

@LS888 out n about double is meant to be amazing and can always get them second hand as they are expensive but I always see people raving about them

EnidH00pes · 28/05/2024 17:22

Thanks for the advice and sorry you're dealing with an anxious time @ChopChop2311 Flowers I hope you get your answers soon.

Totally agree with time utterly standing still. We've been really busy in the last week (plus been off work) and it still dragged. Can only imagine how much it'll drag now I'm back to staring at a computer and watching telly in the evenings.

We've told a fair few friends (mainly those we were with last week) to explain DW's nausea and lack of participation in some activities but only our mums know family wise. There have been some losses in both our families recently and I can't bear the idea of putting them through another one if things don't work out. Will hold off telling the majority until 12 weeks but that feels a VERY long way off...

ChopChop2311 · 28/05/2024 17:24

Thanks, hospital rang to say HCG levels were 14,191 so high/normal, repeat in 48 hours. I want to feel positive but having had a blighted ovum before I can't relax. Hoping it eas just slightly too soon. But having seen just a sac, no yolk. I'm not very.

The wait is a killer!! With my first I had a HUGE bleed and hence had two scans - one at 6 weeks and one at 8. With my 6 weeks one they saw just a sac - nothing else. Healthy heart beat at 8 weeks and he is now 5! No reason to say its not going as it should be

I had another scan this time round after another bleed due to multiple losses and a recent ectopic and same thing - I was 5 weeks and 2 days at the time and they just saw sac. Back on 7th to see if they can see a mini bubba!

DaringlyDizzy · 28/05/2024 17:29

In other news i have avoided it until now but now Im back on that site that tells you your chances of miscarriage day-by-day. Its so stupid and doesnt help the anxiety but I cant stop!! I am feeling a bit calmer ever since they confirmed it wasnt an ectopic last friday

ChopChop2311 · 28/05/2024 17:33

@DaringlyDizzy I keep reading stories that go both ways.. typical 😂

I'm really trying to be positive! Not a lot i can do but wait.

Thanks for sharing your more positive story though

Hi all, I am supposed to be 7w2days today but I had an early scan and I'm measuring behind at 5w6 days and hence couldn't see heartbeat. The consultant didnt rule out a viable pregnancy but its either a change of dates or an early loss. I'm not feeling hopeful, my dates could be off but its hard to believe. I had a mmc in Feb and my 2nd pregnancy had placenta issues. I have a prescription for aspirin and progesterone now, did anyone go on progesterone when not bleeding? I'll have a repeat scan in 2 weeks.
Really just needed some good news today 🙏 hope you're all doing OK

@Summerrose24 change of dates is very possible at this stage I had the same due to having a longer cycle than average which threw the dates off so fingers crossed it's all still very possible ❤️❤️

LS888 · 28/05/2024 18:18

@TerryRose we bought a second hand out and about nipper sport single one a few months ago and definitely rate that one. Will keep a look out for a second hand double! Then to decide whether or not to get rid of our mamas and papas pram! 🤦🏼‍♀️

LS888 · 28/05/2024 18:19

@Summerrose24 sending you positive thoughts 🤞🏻 keeping everything crossed for you. It’s so early days that it could likely be dates making the difference.

LS888 · 28/05/2024 18:21

@DaringlyDizzy its so hard- I was the same with my last pregnancy. Counting down the 12 weeks when you are technically ‘safer’ but still not 100% out of the woods.

BeLemonQuoter · 28/05/2024 19:13

I finally had my viability scan today at the fertility clinic and we were lucky to see 2 heartbeats from the two embrios! I have finally got the confirmation to book in with the midwifes.

@BeLemonQuoter thats amazing news- congratulations!

Katie1989xx · 28/05/2024 20:08

@Summerrose24 This was me just over a week ago. I went for a first scan expecting to be 7 weeks and was told I was only just 6 weeks. I have also been given progesterone pessaries to try and protect the pregnancy after previous losses. Im going back on Monday to see if baby has progressed to 8 weeks. They also saw a bleed next to baby so said I could bleed at some point too. I honestly think the first 12 weeks is so so tough, its just such a roller coaster.
