Hi everyone and welcome to thread 3.
Please ask if you’d like the link to the private Facebook group. It expires after a couple of days so I won’t add it to this post.
If you’re new to the thread, we are a friendly and supportive bunch all in it together and hoping to welcome our new additions in November 2024!

I’ve got my booking appointment tomorrow (8+2). I’m excited to find out when my 12 week scan will be now!

It sounds like the booking/dating scan stuff varies by area. My booking is at 8+3 and I think the 12 week scan is booked by the midwife at that stage… in my area it’s a community midwife who comes to your house. Sounds kind of lovely but we’ll see. It’s been easier to accommodate than needing to go somewhere around work. Getting it sorted is tricky though as the midwife just calls from a blocked number, suggests one date and you just have to be able to do it lol. No idea how I would be able to change it if there was an issue, as I have no contact details.

piechipsgravy · 10/04/2024 20:11

I had a phone call from the midwife to arrange my booking appointment- she called when I was approx 6 weeks and the appointment was arranged for 4 weeks time. At the same time she sent the referral to get my scan date from the hospital and I got a letter in the post 2 days later with my scan date. I think in some areas that they do that at the booking appointment, rather than when the appointment is booked?

Westy22 · 10/04/2024 20:25

My midwife booked my scan whilst at the booking appointment yesterday and the letter confirmed it today. 10 weeks and unfortunately it's another 3 week wait till they do the '12' week scan lol @taytay2020i also got the date and time for my 16 week midwife appointment x

This is literally exactly the same for me and now you’ve got me thinking maybe we’re in the same area 👀😂

taytay2020 · 10/04/2024 20:43

Thanks all, sounds like I don't need to worry yet. Hopefully midwife can arrange it in my booking appointment. 🤞

Haha maybe we are 👀!!

LegoBear84 · 10/04/2024 21:06

Thanks @SouthwestSis it's a reception class so a little trickier to keep distance as they just love to invade your personal space!!
I think I've got a plan to avoid the suspected cases for this week by asking a colleague to swap classes for the morming and then I've got my booking appointment next week so can get midwife to run bloods for slapped cheek immunity/antibodies.
I also think I'll be able to deflect attention by saying to other colleagues that I'm avoiding a certain class as I have a weakened immune system due to my crohn's medications.

Does anyone else have indigestion constantly? I don’t remember having this so early last time

I have it. I notice it's really proportional to how much fatty food I eat (butter is a particularly bad trigger). I've had it really badly in all my pregnancies. At the moment I take the occasional omperazole or Rennie's but I'm trying to avoid foods that set it off and that works. I know that later on I'll have to take omperazole a couple of times a day whatever I eat.

@LegoBear84 I'm a reception teacher too! I told my SLT early on because I have some high needs SEN and can't help with physical support for them. Good luck with the class swap.

Thank you! I'm an HLTA who covers PPA, I'm across Year 5, Year 4 and a reception class (my son is in the other one!!)
It's so tricky knowing when to tell and who to tell, especially when such early days.

How is everyone bringing a urine sample to their booking appointment? I'm a bit hesitant to use something from the kitchen to transport it. With my first, I just provided them with a sample when I was there, and they gave me a pot to bring some for my future appointments.

This time I'm in a different area where booking appointment and scan are done at the same time. So if I provide a sample at the appointment my bladder won't be full for the scan 😅

1yearplan · 11/04/2024 09:50

Oh wow, I'd never thought about all of the things to consider if you're a pregnant teacher. Hats off to you ladies. It must be hard to navigate, especially if you want to keep your pregnancy to yourself for a while. I can't do my job at all whilst pregnant, so I'm just at home now. We are offered alternative roles within the organisation, but I turned them down.
I've got a private scan today. I'm terrified as ever due to previous loss. I should be somewhere between 9 and 10 weeks. Hopefully of all things are well I should be able know if/when I can book my NIPT test.

Can you pop to your local gp this morning and pick up a sample bottle?

muddlingthrou · 11/04/2024 09:57

@UnravellingTheWorld - not sure if this will be the case for you, but in my previous pregnancy they'd give me a sample pot as soon as I turned up to pee in before being seen. There's something humbling about sitting there with a warm tube of your own urine, but at least I knew I had company in that waiting room 🤣

muddlingthrou · 11/04/2024 09:58

Best of luck @1yearplan - every scan is a nail biting experience, isn't it? But equally, every scan is an extra step closer to that baby and some additional reassurance. I hope all goes well and you get some waves!

y0rkier0se · 11/04/2024 09:59

Good luck for today @1yearplan x

piechipsgravy · 11/04/2024 09:59

Good luck with the scan @1yearplan

I've just downloaded the Ovia Pregnancy app because I saw on TikTok a feature where it shows you the size of baby's hand/footprint each week and it is the cutest thing I've ever seen!

PennySong · 11/04/2024 11:12

I've just had my scan - it's bad news 💔 the baby isn't growing and the heartbeat is slowing down.
I've left a message with my local maternity unit because they'll need to take over now.
I've cried a bunch and told the wee one thank you for being with me. And lots of other things too.

Cazzy87 · 11/04/2024 11:39

oh @PennySong im so sorry! take a lil time for yourself to process the information, we all need looking after! ❤

piechipsgravy · 11/04/2024 11:43

@PennySong so so sorry to hear this ❤️

1yearplan · 11/04/2024 11:50

@PennySong I really am sorry to hear this. What lovely words to say to your little one too. Sending you all of the love.

I use Ovia! It's super useful also when you put in symptoms it often follows up with like "this might be because..." which I love. You can also change the baby size thing so it's not all fruits. I'm currently harbouring a 2x2 Lego cube apparently.
