Started a new thread as the last one is full.
Got my apt letter today for my scan in Jan will be the 11th should be 12w 3D.

@Oatmilk - it is tough but what else cam we do. Have no other choixe but to suffer and keep going. I reflect very very often in the ease of my last pregnancy. Naps when I wanted. Sleep in when I wanted. Just really self centered 😂 now I am lucky to put my feet up for 10mins.

I just think loooooads of women have done, are doing it. And I need to suck it up.
My Nausea is easing up a little the last couple days. So hopefully it goes soon.

Happy new year everyone, I hope you all had a nice time over the festive period.

I’m really struggling with my nausea, I feel sick all day every day. I am due back at work tomorrow and it’s my week in the office. I’m dreading it but I have work that I need to finish off tomorrow.

I really want to go off sick (I never take sick days) and I have such a guilt complex about it so have no idea what to say to my boss. Also, my boss is male and has zero idea how much this nausea is affecting me!

Savvy21 · 02/01/2024 19:14

@Oatmilktea remember that your health and baby comes first. Also I think that pregnancy sickness doesn't count towards your sick record. Your boss can't really say anything as if you're in the UK then you are protected under the Equality Act.

Oatmilktea · 02/01/2024 19:15

Thanks @Savvy21, I know deep down I really need a week or two of rest. I’ll bite the bullet tomorrow and tell my boss I need to take time off sick

CheshGirl · 02/01/2024 20:07

If it helps I took time off sick with nausea and ended up needing 4 weeks, signed off in 2 blocks of 2 weeks.

I managed to sleep through most of the day, but it was still unbearable, work would have been impossible.

Light at the end of the tunnel - now 14 weeks and it's gone!!!! Xx

Oatmilktea · 02/01/2024 20:13

@CheshGirl glad to hear you’re feeling better, that gives me some hope for the weeks to come.

I took a couple days ‘sick’ where I’ve just worked from home without actually doing any work a couple weeks ago and even that done me the world of good

CheshGirl · 02/01/2024 20:58

How many weeks are you @Oatmilktea

ExpectantEs · 02/01/2024 21:02

Hi all - Speaking of work - when is a suitable time to inform HR/Management about your pregnancy?

Google wasn't much help as it says you need to let them know at least 15 weeks before your mat leave. But then surely you won't be able to have time off for appointments etc

Oatmilktea · 02/01/2024 21:15

I’m 11 weeks @CheshGirl, hopefully it passes soon.

@ExpectantEs I told my line manager at 8 weeks due to my nausea. I suppose it depends on the kind of job you do, some people might prefer to tell work sooner rather than later so that a pregnancy risk assessment can be carried out

ExpectantEs · 02/01/2024 21:54

@Oatmilktea Thank you - it's a pretty low risk role - I guess I'll just wait a few weeks. Not sure yet. Hope you start feeling better soon

Bali200 · 03/01/2024 04:59

@ExpectantEs I’m planning on telling work today, I’m 13+1 and had my dating scan on the 28td dec. For some reason my nausea is ramping up and getting worse so I’m hoping I’ll get some more leeway with WFH more, and I’m sick of using annual leave for my appointments. Feeling slightly nervous as I haven’t worked there that long but it’s a very female oriented workplace so I hope they’ll be understanding 🤞🏼

Busyhedgehog · 03/01/2024 06:37

I told my school at 6 weeks, mostly because I teach PE and was hoping someone could come along with me for support. (Lugging gym equipment about it not a pregnancy safe activity...) I was also meant to switch to teaching swimming after the break and I tend to be in the water with the non-swimmers. My headteacher was very understanding and I would have quite happily just kept going.
However, I then had bleeding and got signed off for a few days. Telling them about the pregnancy also triggers a referral to our company physician, who then signed me off completely for the rest of the pregnancy due to my medical history (4 ectopics and 2 chemical pregnancies before this one). It's been a bit weird but I've felt absolutely horrendous for the first few weeks, so it was a good decision.
I miss my class, though....they are lovely and I usually love my job, so I'm not off much. 😁

BananaHammock23 · 03/01/2024 06:57

@MoonIightDreamer I'm super anxious as well. I'm 13+5 now and it still doesn't feel any more real than it did at 4 weeks, despite having numerous scans! Mine is an IVF pregnancy after a traumatic ectopic so I think I'm bound to feel more anxious, but wasn't expecting it to be quite this intense!

BunBun221 · 03/01/2024 08:20

@Bali200 snap - my nausea is getting worse too so also planning on telling work either today or tomorrow. I don't think its going to go down well as I only got back from mat leave with my 1st in August!

AnonymousXXIX · 03/01/2024 08:27

Last time I told work around the 18 week mark after a private pre-20 week scan, just so I knew it was really probably actually happening! But it was mid-pandemic and we were all at home so it influenced absolutely nothing.

This time I told one of my colleagues almost immediately, because we were discussing work travel schedules for July/August; and I plan to tell the rest of the team around 14 weeks - also due to travel planning. I am about to mess up a whole bunch of trips for everyone and I feel so bad! (Also a bit for myself, because I will probably miss some cool ones!)

Actually have a super important meeting abroad the week I am due (group leader). No idea how to resolve that yet. Going to tell them end of the month and then hopefully we can figure it out together. Having visions of calling in from the hospital 😂

glasshalffull0 · 03/01/2024 10:18

I told my work at around 8 weeks too because I felt dreadful with nausea and needed a few days off and early finishes and late starts. If I didn't have morning sickness I probably wouldn't have told them until after Christmas

bringmearainbow · 03/01/2024 11:27

@Savvy21 ahhh yay due date twin ❤️ glad the scan went well. I'm like are you real in there but my stomach is def expanding so somethings happening 🙈

My nausea has def eased off coming in waves now instead of just constant. I told work yesterday too. Got my 20 week scan date through but I might have to book one about 16 weeks I don't think I can wait for 20 weeks

Julymumtobe · 03/01/2024 14:11

Hi all looking for advice. I’m 12 weeks, and over Christmas had a cold which turned into a chesty cough and am still coughing now although don’t feel unwell in any other way. I have also been sick and nauseas throughout first trimester although starting to ease over the last week, I vomited again this morning. Sometimes when I cough it triggers my gag reflex and I also start retching (nice I know).
Just now I started to cough and retch at the same time and was sick a little bit. But I coughed up about a teaspoon of red blood. I will be making a doctors appointment first thing tomorrow morning at 8am. But should I be more concerned?

missmoosh · 03/01/2024 14:14

@Julymumtobe i would call 111 personally, they might be able to get you seen today by a GP or advise if you should get urgent care 😊

Julymumtobe · 03/01/2024 15:04

@missmoosh thank you. I have just moved back to the UK and totally forgot about 111. I am waiting for a nurse to call me back. Hopefully all ok.

Jadeandblue · 03/01/2024 16:28

I just got a set of appointments though and they are all okay apart from my anomoly scan (20 week ish one). I'm away most of that week on a UK holiday we booked ages ago.

The person I called to rearrange was quite short with me really, when I said I wanted to change an appointment, before she asked my name or details she just said hmmmm were very busy and full up. Even after she had my details she kept sighing and putting me on hold like i was being very unreasonable to even ask.

My original appointment that i couldnt make was for friday the 23rd of Feb when I would have been 20+6 (as per dating scan I had last week) but she reluctantly rescheduled me for Monday the 26th where I will be 21+2. She ended the call by saying yes well its not in range so they will be too late to do everything, when I asked what I would miss she didn't say and just said its an anomoly scan it's should be that week but your away.

Que some frantic googleing and I can't see anything that they won't be able to measure at 21+2 and I'm starting to think she was maybe just having a bad day.

I've even looked into trying to come home early but it's a group holiday for a family birthday and It would be quite hard to arrange.

Do you think I'm overthinking it? I'm due my 16 week app soon so I can ask the midwife then too.

I think 21+2 is absolutely fine, and the person you spoke to was just being unhelpfully miserable.

Hi all and happy new year :)

seems like there is a lot of us with the same or very similar due dates! I had my 12 week scan on 30th December and I’m happy to say everything looked fine, baby was very wriggly but the sonographer still managed to get what they needed for the scan! Due date is 7th July so not close behind a lot of you :)

regarding work I am planning to tell my work this week! Feeling excited but I reckon a lot of my colleagues will be super shocked. My role isn’t physical at all (just from a computer/laptop) so I can imagine people with more physical demanding jobs may have told their work sooner.

I wondered if many of you are continuing to take folic acid / supplements after being 12 weeks? I was taking pregnacare tablets every day - I asked the sonographer at my appointment whether I should continue this throughout my pregnancy, and she didn’t really give me a direct answer- she said I can if I wanted to but I don’t necessarily need to. Are many of you still taking tablets? At the moment I’m taking them when I remember but not worrying too much if I forget. It seems strange to just go cold turkey on them after 12 weeks!

Surprisedbuthappy · 03/01/2024 19:38

Hi everyone, happy new year! It's lovely to read so many updates after your 12-week scans. Mine is on Monday when I'll be 13 weeks. Fingers crossed all is well. Has anyone else got sciatica? It suddenly started last week and now I've got a pretty much constant pain in the bum! 🙈

BananaHammock23 · 03/01/2024 21:32

@CMRC17 my midwife prescribed folic acid (stronger than over the counter bc of BMI 🙄) and told me to continue taking them for the whole pregnancy. I also take vitamins and will continue to do so throughout. Not sure what the advice is though so keen to hear others views too.

@Surprisedbuthappy not in this pregnancy, but with DS (now 2.5) I had sciatica and it was sooo painful. It started at around 16 weeks if I remember rightly. I had acupuncture once a week and that was the only thing that provided any relief.

BunBun221 · 03/01/2024 22:15

Told my work today - it didn't go down too well with the owners as I only returned from mat leave in August after having my first. She congratulated me and smiled but it was really forced and she made a comment about having 'sort it all out again'

In terms of supplements and vitamins- vitamins should be taken the whole pregnancy, but I believe folic acid is only really key in the first 12 weeks as it helps to prevent neural tube defects. I'm no expert though.
