Hey ladies, i feel strange asking questions as ive had 4 before but 9 years ago and can’t really remember when each of them done whatever, but im struggling at the moment with my little lady doing things too fast? Or i think she is and can’t remember my others doing it so early lol if that makes any sense?
anyone else feeling like this? Xx

Noname112 · 15/06/2024 14:36

@Avie29 this is baby 2 for me and I swear out of nowhere he’s became a big baby. He’s so solid sitting up, he’s trying to pull up to stand. He’s desperate to get moving and do what his brother is doing. His molars are cutting in as his first teeth! So keen on solids. He won’t roll over though.

Hes also gone from being very content chilled newborn to very clingy and quite hard work. Hoping it’s a short lived phase.

Avie29 · 16/06/2024 17:21

@Noname112 glad im not the only one lol my little girl is on solids too and wanting to feed herself now rather than spoon, so hard to find finger foods for a 5 month old but calling on my inner mummy cause i know ive done it before n trusting my instincts, today she tried scrambled egg, she got angry when the egg kept smushing before it reached her mouth haha she is sitting for short periods without support before she topples over lol but she is a roller, she can get about the living room quite quickly now its scary, she got the same about 2 weeks ago, very grumpy, wouldn’t sleep for longer than an hour at a time even at night 🥱 but last 2 nights she only got up the once so im hoping we have come out the other side now lol xx

Noname112 · 16/06/2024 19:35

@Avie29 also been seeing every hour and fighting the naps. 🤞it gets better soon.

Avie29 · 16/06/2024 21:10

@Noname112 well i guess we are out the ‘seeing every hour’ phase now she has been asleep since half 7 🤞 xx

Does anyone have the cozee tutti bambini next to me, and find baby rolls down into the corner of it? It's driving me mad as I can't figure out how to fix it!

Me, mine has rolled into side from birth pretty much. Started waking all the time, hitting himself off side and mis-shaping it. He's too big for it.

Cindy1802 · 17/06/2024 19:40

@FlyingHighFlyingLow to be fair my LO has been doing it for ages too, but I think he actually likes being snuggled into the corner so i wasnt overly bothered. I was just thinking recently if it will make the transition to a cot harder cos he won't be snuggled by the cot, and I don't need any more sleep issues to content with 🤣 I've googled it and it seems to be a common issue... bonkers though considering it's one of the more popular brands.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 17/06/2024 20:10

@Cindy1802 atm we're cosleeping (is it cosleeping if you don't sleep? 😅🙈) but he sleeps much better in our open bed than in the next to me as he's too big to roll about.

Thinking about cot but won't fit in our room and we weren't ready to move him yet.

99SR · 17/06/2024 22:46

My LG is still in the next to me (she was 6m on Saturday) so I’m thinking about transition to cot in her own room HOWEVER her sleep has been awful the past few days! Shes been waking up from 2am… so last night was 2am, 4am, 5.30am (was just about to get up with her then she fell back asleep til 6.55). She never cries but I can hear she’s awake and sometimes it takes her almost an hour to get back to sleep on her own. Please tell me this is a phase!

Nclktnntt · 24/06/2024 19:37

How's everyone's weaning journeys going? I'm itching to get started, little one is super interested in our food and drink and I can't wait to see him taste new things. He's not sitting confidently just yet though so a few weeks maybe. I'm just getting everything together that we need. I want to make my own purées initially. Do any of you have any good books you've come across? Any tips / advice welcome also, as a first time mom and totally new to all this, and not really a huge cook, I'll welcome any tips 😊

@Nclktnntt were using Annabel Karmels book! It’s really good. But I’m doing a mix of purées and finger food. She does a lot of BLW but that’s scaring me when I try it lol. I’ve also been giving my LO baby rice/porridge (not everyone agrees) purely to help her reflux which seems to be helping! I need to get better at introducing more new tastes etc. it’s quite exciting tho, my girl seems to be enjoying it!

SMG1992 · 24/06/2024 19:57

@Nclktnntt weaning is so exciting but oh so messy!
Im following a lot of Instagram accounts and got the “Solid starts” app
my LO is really loving it and we’ve started trying to give him as close to what we’re having as possible.
We’re also doing a mixture of purée and BLW which seems to be working well for us and him
ive got a “catchy” for under the high chair so would recommend looking into them to see if they do one for your high chair - they are really great for the mess and also reducing wastage (a lot ends up on the floor otherwise)

also… how have we ended up with 6 month olds?!? Time is seriously flying!! X

Nclktnntt · 24/06/2024 21:28

I know @SMG1992 the time is flying! I've been looking at a mat to put down under the chair, I'll have a look into what youve suggested there. I'll take a look at that book too @99SR thank you.

I want to do finger foods too. Super mushy though as it freaks me out, but I want him to get his hands messy. And just everything messy 😂

I've seen the best time to try is after a bottle when they're not super hungry. When do you guys find the best time is?

OP posts:
99SR · 24/06/2024 21:52

@SMG1992 when you say you give your LO as close to what you’re having. Do you just give it as finger foods or are you making your meals into a purée? I feel like I’m just offering puréed fruit and veg, porridge, rice and some finger foods like toast, avocado, banana. Feel like I need to broaden what I’m offering.

@Nclktnntt yeah I tend to offer a bottle then about 45 mins later I offer food. If she leaves some of her bottle I use this to make the porridge/rice about 30 mins later for breakfast.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 24/06/2024 21:55

We're a fair way into it as I weaned early on medical advice (almost a week off 5 months when we started). He loves his food! I started out offering him food about 30 min after a milk feed and worked well. I also offered milk after the solids especially as he refused water. He's 6 and a half months now, on 3 meals a day. He has porridge for breakfast (blended own oats), fruit etc. His favourite is banana and peanut butter. Lunch is finger food time so pasta, banana etc. Dinner he has what we have if suitable or some mixes we've frozen for him. Sometimes more puree than others. He's had katsu curry, daal, spaghetti bolognase, fish pie, Sunday roast, all sorts! We usually try veg based first then a fruit dessert because he's a fruitbat and would only eat fruit otherwise!

He won't feed himself though. He gets mad he can't eat fast enough and insists I hold for him. Even finger food. I just hold my hand still in front of him and he bobs his head forward to bite when he feels like it.

Avie29 · 24/06/2024 22:05

I started my lil girl off with one of these and some grapes/water melon etc inside, it really helped her hand eye coordination when we moved onto more complicated finger foods like wotsits lol i blend down different fruit purées to freeze, really great for teething baby, she generally has a frozen purée, couple wotsits to play with/eat and a fromage frais (mostly only eats half of it) for lunch and breast normally half hour after, then fruit purée/ porridge or blended whatever veg we are having for dinner at about 5 and then shes up for massages and breast at 6 for bedtime xx

SMG1992 · 25/06/2024 15:49

@99SR a bit of a mixture really. I try to use the same ingredients that we will be having for dinner so I’m not making lots of variants. My LO has had pasta and veg, I blended the veg into a sauce and cut up the spaghetti, I offer a steamed finger version of most vegetables along with a puree.

Noname112 · 25/06/2024 20:34

Definitely recommend the solid starts app. I also like Rebecca Wilson’s books what mummy makes and have a few others. Easy things all suitable for baby and also easy enough for the whole family. We’ve taken it slow but started a bit early for some allergens due to family history. Mainly been offering dinner but think going to start offering a couple of wee bits at breakfast/lunch too. Doing BLW as what I did with my eldest. Eldest would never accept being spoon fed so purée didn’t work with him. Could probably do some spoon feeding this time but I can’t be bothered and he’s happy exploring/ feeding himself.

Beans1982 · 25/06/2024 21:50

Just started weaning my LO last week, so it's great to hear how everyone's getting along.
We're doing a combo of puree and finger foods - I aimed to strictly stick with baby-led weaning but my husband isn't too keen on offering finger foods (he's terrified of choking hazards). We're only on day 6, first couple of times LO didn't really do much apart from mush the food in his hands but last couple of days he's started to take finger food from my hand like a stick of cucumber and put it in his mouth. I've also got a tiny silicone spoon for him from Amazon, it's small enough for him to handle and has a stopper so he won't shove it too far and he loves it! - I just pre-load it with a bit of food and hand it over to him and it goes straight in the mouth 😁
My MIL is dead against the idea of baby-led and only believes in spoon-feeding purees. I have a fun week ahead of me as she's coming to stay for the week next weekend 🙄
I'd also recommend the Solid Starts app, I'm finding it useful so far as it provides helpful info on nutrition and the appropriate way to prep the solid. Katie Ferraro on Youtube (or Babyledweanteam on Insta) also provides helpful info.
It's crazy how fast the last 6 months have come and gone!

Avie29 · 27/06/2024 23:04

Hey ladies, so last 2 nights i have come up to bed to find baby asleep on her tummy cause she has rolled over in her sleep, she can very easily roll both ways on her own now, i moved her back knto her back last night and it woke her up and she was up for another hour 🥱 do i need to put her on her back? She can roll back herself no problem, she must find it more comfortable to sleep on her tummy (im a tummy sleeper-so is all my older kids too 🤔 lol) basically wondering if tummy sleeping is safe if A) shes doing it herself and B) she can roll over if she needs to, thanks xx

GreyhoundGal1 · 30/06/2024 19:34

Yes if they can get into position themselves totally fine to leave her to it, as long as you're still putting her to sleep on her back.

Avie29 · 30/06/2024 22:43

Yea still putting her down on her back but she stirs n rolls over pretty much straight away, she definitely sleeps better on her tummy, for last 4 weeks she has been waking every hour- 2hours, i put her into her cot at 7 and she is still asleep now 🙌 xx

Avie29 · 06/07/2024 20:43

Hey, how is everyone doing? Baby girl was 6 months old yesterday! I can’t believe its going sooo fast! Xx

Noname112 · 06/07/2024 21:20

Crazy how fast it goes. My wee one is 7 months next week. He pulled himself up to stand on the gate around the fire today. Was not expecting it. He refuses to roll though 😂. He’s also definitely starting to get the hang of weaning a bit more was very keen on his dinner tonight. Crazy how all of a sudden they seem like a big baby and not a wee newborn if you know what I mean.
