I couldn’t get my sweep today, cervix is “too long and far back”. The hopes of me going naturally have went down now lol. Looks like itl be induction for me next week! Anyone got any positive induction stories?

SMG1992 · 07/12/2023 16:14

@Mushroo i can’t give advice I’m afraid as they couldn’t do it as baby’s head isn’t engaged enough. I’m only 39 weeks so will try again next week.
if you’ve had smears before I think they are similar to that

i have another growth scan on Monday so hopefully they’ll be able to see engagement then and I’m hoping he’s not too huge! Getting panicked about size now

Mushroo · 07/12/2023 16:19

@SMG1992 ah thanks for letting me know anyway! Hopefully she engages soon and you can get going

Flowersandfloral · 08/12/2023 04:50

Hey everyone. I went into labour on Tuesday! Woke up to odd period cramp, called hospital as due ELCS the Thurs, they advised didn't sound like labour. Kept getting these cramps every hour until 4pm when they still didn't think was labour as it varied so much, but went in for assessment.

Doctors kept trying to convince me to go vaginal but I declined. Contractions kept getting stronger and I ended up dilating to 6cm before finally my time for section. I was only just given gas after 5cm which hardly touched a thing with the pain! Section was pushed back and back due to other emergencies. I can't tell you the relief I felt as soon as I was in and epidural kicked in! I found the whole surgery a positive experience, knew I could trust the team, was well informed etc. My delivery was actually very difficult though and they had to call for assistance, use forceps etc. when you're there you are being shaken around like crazy but I still felt safe with them.

As such a difficult birth she was blue tinged and took a while but then her lungs came in and she has been doing great! Midwife told me afterwards it was a good job I had insisted on section as it would have been even more difficult for vaginal delivery. I'd always had this gut feeling I would need a section so I'm glad I trusted myself!

Been in a little bubble since and updating you all whilst baby girl is happily latched in the rugby ball hold. I love this position for breastfeeding!

Happy to answer any questions if people have them about my experience! Xx

ThomasinaLivesHere · 08/12/2023 09:26

@Flowersandfloral Congratulations! 🥳 Glad things worked out in the end. Must have been frustrating waiting on c-section when in labour. Not to mention the pain. I really hope I avoid that as my section date is just 2 days before due date. Like you I also feel a c-section is needed and midwife even said it was good I chose it as baby has been in back to back position for a while.

Elle09 · 08/12/2023 09:32

Hi, first time posting. My due date is 22nd Dec however had a growth scan yesterday ( due to my 3yr old DD being small at birth) and this pregnancy is the same. I had hoped to have a natural birth as I was induced last time and it was 3 days of hell but I’ve been booked in for an emergency induction tomorrow. Had a sweep last night which has just made me crampy and uncomfortable.
Im not sure why I’m posting really, it’s just a little supportive to see others in similar positions.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 08/12/2023 09:52

@Elle09 Sorry to hear you can’t go into labour naturally. I hope the induction works quicker this time. I had to go through an induction with my first so know it’s no the most pleasant experience but not every induction is the same so hopefully for you it’s easier than last time.

Elle09 · 08/12/2023 10:05

Thank you! I know it’s all worth it when they’re here I was just hoping for a different experience this time round. I only finished work this week on Mat leave so was hoping for a week or 2 of relaxing but as long as the baby is healthy and well I won’t complain.

Nclktnntt · 08/12/2023 13:50

Congratulations @Flowersandfloral sorry to hear of your experience but so glad you got what you wanted in the end and both you and baby are doing well.

@Elle09 sorry to hear you'll need to be induced again, hopefully it's a better experience for you than with your first.

I break up next Saturday and my husbands joked saying knowing us, and as this baby is ours, I'll break up on the 16th and go into labour on the 17th (due 27th) 😂

Congrats @Flowersandfloral glad you are home and safe and well!
I’ve been keeping myself busy and active today- I’m trying not to worry too much as I know if I want this baby to come I need to relax!

HappyPie82 · 08/12/2023 15:47

38+5 and so fed up now.
Everything is sore!!! Got a sweep booked for 39+3 and going to ask for a post dates induction at 40w if there’s no sign of my cervix being favourable as I really don’t want to get to 41w on Xmas weekend and then be talking induction.
I wanted to avoid induction but I think giving birth on Xmas week would be worse because baby is so big, on for 9lbs at 40w and I’m not sure my body could take another full week + more days.

GingerJanee · 08/12/2023 16:22

Congratulations @Flowersandfloral hope you and baby are both keeping well!

@Elle09 I’m sorry your plans have had to change but atleast you’re focusing on the positives and you’ll be able to meet baby sooner 🥰 wishing you all the best!

Noname112 · 08/12/2023 16:29

So I don’t think my waters did go the other day. Back at midwife today and had a sweep at 39+5 was 2cm dilated and could be stretched to 3. She could feel baby’s head and said it was favourable so 🤞 something happens. Had a few cramps but nothing exciting.

VillageFete · 08/12/2023 16:29

Hope all the C section mama’s are recovering well.

I had mine on Wednesday morning. 3rd section in 14 years and hardest recovery so far. I was in surgery for 2.5 hours! It was pretty straightforward but they removed my fallopian tubes and for some reason things took ages.

One of my fallopian tubes was clipped during my last C section as it was blocked and potentially leaking toxic fluid) I knew I wanted another baby so they clipped it to stop the fluid as it can kill an embryo. Anyway, the clip has disappeared, the surgeon couldn’t find it! It’s floating around my body somewhere. Just hoping it doesn’t cause any bother going forward.

My daughter was born to “Simply having a wonderful Christmas time” 😂And she’s so lovely!! Constantly hungry and a decent weight at 7lb 10oz at 38+6.

She’s 60th centile and my growth scans had her around 30th centile, so wildly off!

I’m in pain, I’m shattered and she never wants putting down! But just so glad we got there in the end!

SMG1992 · 08/12/2023 17:57

@VillageFete glad the baby is well, I hope you are recovering well too and the pain atleast gets better soon - hopefully as you heal you’ll feel less shattered too

ThomasinaLivesHere · 08/12/2023 18:12

@VillageFete Congratulations! Sorry recovery isn’t going as well as others. Hopefully after a few days things settle a bit.

For those who e had c sections have you been taken peppermint tablets or tea? Has it helped?

Nclktnntt · 08/12/2023 18:24

Congratulations @VillageFete - glad baby is doing well, sorry your recovery sounds difficult, hopefully you pain is easing and you can get some rest.

Thanks guys, she’s beautiful! It’s a lovely feeling knowing we’re officially done. My eldest is 14, middle is 4 and now a newborn. We had secondary infertility and it’s fantastic to have it behind us.

Yeah, the pain isn’t pleasant but i’m coping. I think the key is to take painkillers round the clock even if I don’t think I need them. By week 2 I was great with the other C sections, so fingers crossed!

@ThomasinaLivesHere Yes, i’ve found them essential! Definitely have them to hand.

gurlwhaat · 08/12/2023 19:25

Congratulations! I’m glad all went well for you in the end! Hope you don’t mind me asking but how come they had to use forceps with a section?!

Thamantha · 08/12/2023 19:54

I'm being sent for another growth scan. Anyone else had a decrease in their fundal height measurement? Mine has always been on the large side, but has decreased a cm compared with a fortnight ago, and is now measuring the same as it did a month ago. I am vaguely hoping that this is a sign that baby is getting ready to come out but not sure if anyone else has had this?

RG84 · 09/12/2023 06:37

I hope everyone is doing well with the new bundle of joy :) and good luck to upcoming births.
Just to update you, I had my c-section on the morning of the 8th December. Baby boy arrived safely and so in love 🥰 surprisingly with diebeties the scan showed a big baby but turned out to be an average 3.1kg baby. Still in hospital but hoping to be discharged today so I can also see my little girl.

So many growth scans for me! Fundal height stayed same twice, decreased once. Growth scans also all over. Almost induced at 37 weeks due to none growth on 20th centile.

He was born on thursday, 41+2 weeks, weighing over 9lb. Gave everyone a shock!

ThomasinaLivesHere · 09/12/2023 09:48

@RG84 Congratulations! Hope recovery is going well!

Avie29 · 09/12/2023 12:49

Hey 37+3 due 27th Dec, baby is 2/5 engaged have a sweep booked for next Wednesday, last pregnancies went over due by 15 days (induced)and 8 days (natural), then twins (elective c-sec 37 weeks), hoping for natural birth this time, but im not allowed to go over due by more than a week due to c-sec, so really hoping my cervix is favourable for sweep 🤞 wish me luck 😊 x

Srs12 · 09/12/2023 14:22

@Thamantha my fundal measurement has been all over the place, it went from above 97th centile to below the 5th (decreased over 2cm in 3 weeks) and then back to over the 97th again, I’ve been for 3 growth scans and baby has measured around 35th-50th centile for all of them so not sure my my fundal measurements have changed so much but everything always comes back fine with baby.
