Hi @Nclktnntt and all, hope everyone's having a good start to 2025!

My LO turned 1 on the 27th Dec and is now a proper toddler walking at speed everywhere! 😆
My LO was still on three bottles of formula up until a few weeks ago. I started adding cow's milk into his formula increasing it until it was mostly cow's milk and then just switched to cow's milk only. Process only took a few days.

He only recently dropped down to two bottles of milk (now one in the morning and one at bedtime), but he's only drinking around 200 - 300ml of milk a day. I give him yogurt, cheese, or a sauce made with milk which (as I understand) compensates for drinking less milk.

Nclktnntt · 11/01/2025 07:44

Heya beans, I've been thinking about doing that and increasing the ratio slightly. Did you do it with all bottles at the same time or just the one. I've started giving him a yoghurt in the day. Our LO is plant based and finding a gluten free plant based milk that's fortified is difficult, I think I've found one he'll like though 🤞

@Nclktnntt my LG is plant based too! She hasn’t taken a bottle of oat milk yet. I’m still using prescription milk but it’s almost finished. Which milk do you use? Did your LO take to it ok?

still no walking here unless she’s using her toy pram as a walker! She can do that one handed lol. she’s almost 13 months!

My eldest didn’t walk till 13-14months, my second didn’t till 18months she will get there, ☺️ i expect she doesn’t really need the pram its just a security at the moment, she will soon get fed up of the restrictions of having to push something and venture out on her own lol try handing her things so she lets go of the pram and has to make the choice of dropping what she is holding or holding the pram to walk xx

Avie29 · 11/01/2025 09:24

@Nclktnntt i just handed her a bottle of warm milk n that was it lol i don’t have time to express and mix, so unfortunately for my lg it was like it or lump it, she has milk with her cereal in the mornings for the last couple months so she was used to the flavour a bit, she only has one bottle of milk at the moment on the morning school run as we have started walking to school to all get a bit fitter and my dd(9) school is 2 miles (4 miles including the walk back) and it takes a little while, didn’t really fancy getting my breast out in the cold weather haha xx

Mine is similar, just turned 13 months. Can pretty much run with a walker one handed but loses all confidence hands free. Has managed about 4 steps independently at a time so far.

End of the day they all do things at their own pace. You don't see 5 yo in reception crawling around because they never learnt to walk. They'll get there. Mine is such a fast crawler they had zero drive to stand or walk for ages. Completely capable but when crawling gets you there so much quicker why would you?

99SR · 11/01/2025 13:32

@Avie29 @FlyingHighFlyingLow no totally agree! She’ll do it in her own time. She is also super fast at crawling so I suspect she’s not in a rush 🤣 she was also super fast at rolling hence not crawling til 10 months either! Could get there faster rolling.

Noname112 · 11/01/2025 14:48

My wee ones running around and climbing everything. He’s a little terror for getting up
on things he shouldn’t. Also having an explosion of words this week. Lots of babbling and we’ve had mama and dada for a while but have woof, cat, duck, moo, banana, uncles name, brother. Also making roaring and elephant noises and started doing actions for songs. Very cool but his sleep has been pants I’m sure cause his brains in overdrive. Hoping sleep gets a bit better soon as I’m starting to really struggle.

Oh my god, my lo is the same, her new favourite- climbing the stairs, forever shouting “shut the stair gate” everytime someone comes downstairs- she also likes putting muslin squares over her face and running around blind 🤦🏻‍♀️ she has said a couple words, mum&dad for a while now- kitty, goku (dad and older brother are dragonball fans lol) attempts older brothers name, cup and oh dear has been said once parroting it back, but she does not sleep! She is still waking 6+ times a night 🥱 and will be up in the night for a few hours sometimes, i just wanna sleep 😩 xx

99SR · 12/01/2025 09:34

@Avie29 i go mental at my partner for leaving the stair gate open too haha!!
only mama for words here but close to other words “ba” for ball, “da” for dad, “mi” for milk lol

I need to request more prescription milk but I've read/heard that when they're over 1 they stop prescribing it ?. I'm going to request it and if questioned say we're in the process of transitioning over.

Are you under a dietitian- we haven't been referred and seemingly no intention of referring us even with his wheat allergy too ,hence the gluten free at the minute as unsure if gluten based things were being reacted too because of wheat or because of the gluten itself (although he's now being referred for further testing as his gluten was slightly raised in the bloods they took at the time), I'm going to request being referred though as I want to make sure he's getting everything he needs from food/milk alternatives and if he needs a multivitamin?

I've seen multi vitamins are recommended for little ones but no one has said anything to us, is anyone in here giving multi's to your littles?

@Avie29 that's what I meant, was it a mam bottle with a normal teat or the trainer teat?

@Avie29 awesome thank you. I'll ask them about multi vitamins too when I put my request in. Thank you.

i live in Scotland and we were given vitamin d drops to give my little girl on the days she’s drinking less than 500ml milk.

we’re also on prescription milk and got my last prescription denied 🙄 I phoned & said give me a break she turned one like 2 days before she hadn’t transitioned to oat milk yet…. The receptionist said “I’ll give you it one more time”. If my LG doesn’t take to the oat milk I’ll be phoning the dr this time not the receptionist lol

99SR · 12/01/2025 19:57

@Nclktnntt also yeah we’re under dietician! But we go in groups, so I’ve never had an individual app. We went to a dairy free weaning group at 6m then a milk transition group at 1yr. Then at the end of the group you get a chance to speak to the dietician 1:1. Have you seen the milk ladder? There’s a new one that’s being used in Scotland. If I can help give me a message!

Beans1982 · 12/01/2025 22:37

Hey @Nclktnntt I initially added a little cow's milk to each daytime bottle (he was still having one in the morning and one in the afternoon at that point) and just gave a full bottle of formula before bedtime. But after a couple of days I replaced his bedtime bottle with cow's milk as well. Probably took around a week to completely change from formula to milk.

I've only just got rid of his bottles as well and got him drinking milk out of a cup/beaker - took a few attempts with different cups/beakers but seems to be happy with one from brand called Tum Tum. Drinking a lot less milk but trying to compensate by giving yogurt during meals/snack.

My LO's saying a few different words but Bat (for bath, and he constantly wants to climb the stairs to go to the bathroom, repeating the word bat all the way up) and Ta-do (tractor) seem to be his fave words. Everything with wheels gets called a tractor Lol.

Nclktnntt · 13/01/2025 09:25

Thank you all. I've had a Quick Look at the tum tum cups and think I'll get him one to try as he has 2 sippy cups just now and if I put milk in instead of water, he has a bit then leaves it, will only then drink from it when he sees me put water in it 😂

@Beans1982 Have you got the one that's a 3 in 1 type trainer or the one with the closing lid?

OP posts:
Beans1982 · 13/01/2025 15:55

@Nclktnntt I've got two cups from Tum Tum, pasted Amazon links below for you.
TumTum3-waysilicone
TumTumTippyUp

Bought the 3-way first and he took to it straight away (drinking through the straw) managed to drink a tiny bit of water with the lid removed but need more practice.

I only bought the Tippy up cup a couple of weeks ago and use this for milk only. It's not 100% leak-proof but it lets LO drink from any angle.

I did buy the Munchkin Click Lock Tip & Sip cup as LO already had their 360 cup (which is also a great cup, and is leak-proof unless it gets dropped on the floor from a height, then it spills a little) but it's near impossible to suck through the straw of the Click Lock Tip & Sip. I may have gotten a deffective product though, but even trying to push something down the straw to expand the hole of the straw didn't work.

Nclktnntt · 14/01/2025 22:10

Thank you @Beans1982 those are the ones I've been looking at. I think I'll get them and see how he gets on. If I put milk in his water bottles, he has a bit and then just puts it down. I think it's because it doesn't taste as he's expecting bless him. I thinks he's going to be one of these that needs different cups for different drinks 🙈😂

OP posts:
Nclktnntt · 14/01/2025 22:15

@99SR I have heard of the milk ladder - didn't know there was a new one though. Everything I've learnt is through research, our doctor has said nothing, she didn't even say he needed a dairy free diet but would need to switch his milk. I mean common sense says switch out milk but she didn't actually tell us too 😳 or wheat. I did ask her about the milk ladder as I'd seen about it and all she said was don't worry about trying him yet, we won't try him on dairy until he's a bit older . Everything I've seen though says we should be referred, so I'm going to request a referral now we're settled with his allergies now (I think).
