@Nclktnntt how is your little ones rash doing now? x

Nclktnntt · 11/05/2024 08:38

@Avie29 the rash has cleared up now thank you, still dry in patches but much better and almost cleared up completely. How about your LO?

@Nclktnntt skin is all better, like it never happened, but poor baby is poorly today with a temperature 😢 xx

Nclktnntt · 11/05/2024 23:12

@Avie29 oh no 😢 on a day like today too! Do you know what it might be? Have you managed to keep her temp down?

OP posts:
Avie29 · 12/05/2024 08:32

@Nclktnntt she was spitting the calpol out so couldn’t bring her temperature down, but she was still smiles and feeding ok so wasn’t too worried, think she has caught mummys cold- its a nasty one, her temperature came down by itself in the night and she seems completely better 🤷🏻‍♀️ xx

Looking for some tips/advice/ real life stories

We have just bought a house and will be moving in soon. The move will also be around the time my daughter turns 6 months which is when we planned to move her into her own room with her cot.

When we move in, should we keep her in her next to me beside us for a couple of weeks before moving her to her own room and cot or would it be best to put her into her own room and cot straight away?

Thanks

Nclktnntt · 28/05/2024 05:47

@chloesl1808 not hot real life stories but this is a tough one! Have you moved already? What did you do and how did it go? If you have moved I hope the love went well.

I think I would try it, if it didn't work out I'd put them in the next to me in my room for a few nights and try just naps in there to begin with.

Anyone in here using reusable nappies and / or wipes? We've been having serious issues with our disposable nappies where we're getting leaks almost every nappy (mainly wee) and every single night our LO is wet through 😢 . We toyed with the idea before he was born but decided against it at the time, but have revisited the idea again now, so just wondering if you have used / tried reusable, how you found it, what you recommend etc

Noname112 · 28/05/2024 22:26

We use reusable wipes (cheeky wipes) did with our first too. Find them great. easy to use and wash much less messy and faffy than disposable wipes.

Never really got on with or could commit to using nappies though. Have you tried going up a size in nappies? Also sometimes going up a size in vests/babygrows help. Sometimes as the clothes get tight they compress the nappy and cause leaks. Have also heard of people putting reusable nappy wrap over disposable or putting reusable liners in a disposable. My first was a big soaker with urine and although we tried other nappies always found pampers best at containing leaks.

FirstMondayInMay · 29/05/2024 08:08

@Nclktnntt which nappies are you using at the minute? I’ve been using Aldi, and now we’re out of the newborn sizes (in a size 4 now), we’re having a lot of leaks too. And they really smell of wee😩

99SR · 29/05/2024 08:26

@FirstMondayInMay lots of people have told me Aldi ones were fab until they reached size 4 they had to use pampers!

Flowers90 · 29/05/2024 08:34

Weve had lots of issues with Tesco nappies. We found them the best a few years ago with our Daughter but this time with our son I'm finding all the wee gathers at the front and then they leak. Weve found asda ones better and rarely have an leaks.

Nclktnntt · 29/05/2024 12:10

Thank you ladies. @FirstMondayInMay We're using kit and kin, they were fantastic until we reached size 3s - he's also upped how much milk hes having too so obviously more wee now. Poos rarely escape , it's always his wee finding its way over his legs and leaks by his sides and back. He was absolutely soaking last night at 11 when we were going to bed, so had to change him obv and subsequently woke him up 😥. Realised his willy was maybe pointing up because hardly anything was in the nappy itself, so I think, because he's getting bigger and therefore so is his Willy, that if it's pointing up it misses the main part of the front of the nappy now 🙈

@Noname112 He's only just gone up to this size, I'm reluctant to try bigger as they're from 9kg and he's 7.2 just now 🤷‍♀️. I've brought a few reusable nappies to try out. I'm not sure I'll be able to commit either but though they're worth a try. Ive gone with pocket and all in ones to trial first and see how we get on. They seem massive so wondering if clothes fit over them lol.

@Flowers90 is that the field and friends, or something along those lines, from Tesco? I was going to try them next.

Just to add to the nappies chat, we’ve found Aldi nappies leak a lot and also smell like wee and have found the Tesco ones to be best so far. There have been a couple of occasions where they have leaked but LO has just started rolling on to his front in his sleep and so the wee is just filling up in the front of his nappy which isn’t helping.
I’ve heard some good reviews on the Amazon nappies and as I forgot to order them in the weekly shop I decided to order some from Amazon this week so fingers crossed for those.

Nclktnntt · 04/06/2024 08:22

Ohhh that's interesting @Srs12 keep us posted on how you find them. Always good to be able to have back ups to try.

We decided to night the bullet and try some reusables. I brought a collection of 6 from the nappy guru - they have an incentive where you get 6 different types to try for £55 instead of £95. I also learnt later on that you can hire nappies from nappy libraries - but I looked and it seems just as expensive and buying a bunch so I'll need to look more into that.

My first impressions are ... they're massive 😂 I need to master the fit but we've had no leaks in them. I have a friend who uses reusables and is going to borrow me some more to try and see if it's something we might do full time or stick to part time.

@Noname112 I need to pick your brain about the cheeky wipes - in the pack of nappies I brought they sent 2 wipes to try out.... i honestly find them harder to work with than disposable when wiping up poop, but everyone loves them so i think I might be doing something wrong. How many do you use for poop explosions say?

OP posts:
FirstMondayInMay · 04/06/2024 08:25

@Srs12 is it the mama bear nappies from Amazon? I’ve used their wipes since baby was born and love them so may have to give the nappies a whirl too!

Vsah22 · 04/06/2024 11:40

Hope everyone is doing okay!

We are very much with pampers, we tried Aldi but had too many leaks and found pampers to be a better fit for him.

We found our little boy has got a tooth that has just come through! Very exciting but also the HV said you have to start brushing and register with a dentist. What toothpaste do you even buy?

SMG1992 · 04/06/2024 13:06

@Vsah22 weve been using a tiny slither of our adult Colgate toothpaste. As long as it has fluoride it’s fine to use.
luckily my LO finds me brushing his teeth very funny but it’s another thing to add to the to do list
I honestly don’t know how we’ll have time when he needs more than one meal a day.
by the time I’ve prepped, fed and then cleaned up it’s a long old job!

anyone have any tips for BLW mess? My LO loves broccoli it my god it’s SO messy!

Noname112 · 04/06/2024 15:34

@Nclktnntt often 1 to wipe the mess then a second to check everything is totally clean. Rarely a third if it’s been a huge explosion. Often wipe fold in half wipe again.

@Vsah22 in Scotland we get given the first tube of toothpaste for them from health visitor and it lasted forever with my first. Then moved him onto milk teeth. It’s minty but not too strong so he doesn’t mind even though he’s a fussy toddler.

@SMG1992 bibados are a life saver! A dog is helpful too 😂

Nclktnntt · 05/06/2024 07:59

@Noname112 ahhh ok, I had someone say they only use 1 for even the messiest of poos and I couldn't see how that's possible 😂 we have muslin squares for bath time - can they be used as wipes do you think? They're cotton, or would they be too rough on baby's butt do you think ?

Hey everyone, while we are on the subject of nappies (i use nutmeg) how often does your lo poop? My lg is only pooping once a week, when she does poop it’s explosive lol and not hard- so don’t think she’s constipated, with my older 4 im sure they pooped pretty much daily 🤔 xx

My breastfed baby did this. Loads of it once every few days. Formula feeding friends had more regular pooping babies. He's on solids now, and he produces proper adult poos at least once a day, usually up to 3.

Beans1982 · 12/06/2024 17:15

Hi @Avie29 my little boy (who's formula fed) doesn't go often either, he'll go 2-3 days without pooping and then we get an explosion. He's 24 weeks today, on 5 bottles per 24 hours, and 2 of the 5 bottles he gets are a comfort formula which is supposed to help with colic and constipation. Not yet started him on solids but have been giving him cooled-down boiled water (only around 30ml) which seems to usually help clear his system and helps him poop.

On the topic of nappies, we've tried Pampers, Tesco's, Amazon's mama bear, and more recently Boots bamboo nappies...for us the ones that work the best are pampers and Tesco's. We get more leaks with the Amazon ones but to be honest I probably should have gone up a size and they'd be fine.

gurlwhaat · 12/06/2024 22:34

Hi @Beans1982 i think our babies must have the same birthday! Can I just ask how many ounces your son has per bottle? My son has 4 bottles a day (formula) plus one breastfeed but he’s quite small (21st centile) so don’t know if I should maybe replace the breastfeeding with formula…

@Avie29 my son poos once or twice a day!

Beans1982 · 14/06/2024 22:04

@gurlwhaat my LO was born on the 27th December, was yours too?

He's currently on 7oz per bottle, but I've recently upped his first and last bottles to 8oz (as he seemed to want more at these times although won't usually finish the bottle).
On average, he drinks around 33 fl oz (950 ml) in 24 hours and he's on the 50th centile (or was the last time I saw the HV, due for 6 month visit soon).
