@Doughnut89 I’m starting to think I imagined it, can’t get another one out of her now lmao. She’s a Very Serious Baby mostly!

Well, I cancelled the tongue tie appointment after reading all the gumpf. She won’t meet the criteria and there’s no point in them making me wait in “the breastfeeding room” since that’s not going to happen. We’re going to leave the tongue tie and hope it doesn’t cause speech issues in future. Her paternal grandmother and maternal grandfather both had/have tongue ties and spoke fine so hopefully she will too.

Anyone here taken the baby on a plane yet? I’m very nervous about it. We’re considering a 2 hour flight to Florence in mid September when she’ll be 4 months and I keep worrying something will happen, like turbulence. If you are planning something, has anyone bought a cabin approved buggy? I’m browsing them at the moment

@thislittlebird Five weeks and counting until our flight!

No need to be nervous about flying with a baby though! It's easy :) Newborns are basically handbags that need feeding 😅

Re buggies, we have the YoYo2 with the newborn pack as our main buggy and it's brilliant. It's cabin approved and we got ours second hand so much cheaper than a new one. It's also very pretty and gets a lot of attention when we go out 😂

thislittlebird · 27/07/2024 20:57

@TheBirdintheCave oooh, where are you going? I guess I'm just nervous something will happen after it took 5 years to get here, as illogical as that is. Any good tips for taking a baby on a plane/in an airport?

I have seen the YoYo but very hesitant to pay that much. Our main pram is a Nuna which we love, so contemplating a cheaper travel one. I'm considering the Silver Cross Clic, which is pretty and green.

You formula feed, right? Does your baby use Mam bottles? E is still on 0 teat size and sometimes size 1. She will soon be moving up to bigger bottle sizes that come with size 2 teats, but she cannot deal with a size 2 at all, she spills it everywhere so we've stuck with 0 and 1.

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 27/07/2024 23:45

Marcie has the Minbie bottles and is on teat 1+. She needs 3+ though as she now wants to feed faster than the teats can cope with. Unfortunately we've got a problem as Minbie is an Australian company and they're having shipping issues at the moment which means there are none in stock in the UK 😱

I know what you mean re the worrying as it took so long to get them here. I keep having irrational thoughts that something bad is going to happen to Marcie.

We were in the garden yesterday and I remember thinking 'What if an eagle suddenly came down and had a go at her?' 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

Will post some thoughts re baby travel tomorrow. We've driven up to my parents in Liverpool today so my dad could meet Marcie 😍 So tired now!

Doughnut89 · 29/07/2024 00:10

@thislittlebird i combi feed and I use Mam and Tommy Tippee bottles. My boy has been on size 2 tests for both since he was about 10 weeks but he is a very greedy boy and was getting angry it wasn’t coming out fast enough. If your girl is happy with the 0 and 1s then stick to that.
The Tommee Tippee bottles are good as they go up to 150ml which is what he’s taking at the moment whereas the small mam bottles only go up to 130ml.
He has 10-12 feeds a day with 6-7 being breast and 3-4 on the bottle.
I have just bought a larger mam bottle to try him on 180ml to see if it would reduce the number of feeds but he won’t finish it. I don’t think his stomachs big enough for more than 150 but he still gets really hungry

thislittlebird · 29/07/2024 01:39

@Doughnut89 thanks for the info, how much does he weight now out of interest and how old? It’s so confusing with the teats, she’s doing 6 feeds per day at about 140-160ml right now (she’s 11 weeks tomorrow, but she was and still is 25th percentile so was 10.5lbs last week) and we’re just moving up to the bigger Mam bottles from the 130ml, she has 160ml and 260ml on the go as of now, but for teats she’s still on 0 or 1. She spills a bit on 1 if she’s not focussing, but with size 2 it went everywhere when we tried so I don’t think she’s ready for size 2. I’m wondering if the tongue tie is why.

@TheBirdintheCave an eagle 🦅 😭, yeah ok I haven’t had that thought yet! Have fun in Liverpool!

@Doughnut89 Augh Marcie is the same. Taking between 150-180 at the moment and gets hungry frequently. We've just got her on the medium flow teats now.

Son was on 240 at 10 weeks but he also had bad reflux and vommed a lot of it up.

Doughnut89 · 01/08/2024 16:26

Hey @thislittlebird sorry for the delayed response.
He is 15 weeks today. I actually don’t know how much he weighs which is a bit of a bug bear of mine. I’ve been trying to get him weighed for weeks but keep being told it has to be supervised by the health visitor and I can’t get hold of them. However, I can self weigh from 16 weeks so I am taking him next week to check.
The last couple of days he’s started taking a 180ml bottle on the afternoon which I’m taking as a good sign (though it may just be because of the heat!)

Hope you’re all doing well ♥️ can’t believe how quickly time goes! Are any of you in a routine with your babas? Mine will not go to sleep for the night until about 10pm which is making me feel like a failure when others seem to get their babies down around 7-8pm. Any advice gratefully received! x

My baby has been in a routine of going to sleep between 10pm and midnight since she was 6 weeks old.
Babies dont need to have a 7pm bedtime! Thats an adult fantasy! They sleep during the day!
Mine has been having the same rough schedule since she was 6 weeks old, but 7pm is not even in the realm of possibilities, here!

Usually shell go down at 11ish, after her last bottle (also, I didnt breastfeed at all, gave up at 3 days old, still in the hospital, my baby is doing fine and no one has even made a comment about it!), will sleep until 7/8, have a bottle, and then down again until 11ish. Then shell have a 30 minute nap in between each bottle, after that, so about 3 naps after she properly wakes up.

If shes really tired, Ill feed her earlier than 11, but if shes not, theres no point, because she wont eat and she wont sleep afterwards either!

She is 5 months old, now!

KG1244 · 27/08/2024 17:26

@ASGIRC I think google makes you think you’re failing! Good to know I’m not the only one with a baby night owl. I can’t believe your little one is already 5 months. Time flies so quickly it’s mad

ASGIRC · 27/08/2024 17:38

@KG1244 I know! But like... most of my due date group babies (27 babies in the group) dont even sleep through the night and feed every 3h, if not more! And they are all 4 to 6 months old! Only a handful sleep through the night, and none before 9pm!

TheBirdintheCave · 27/08/2024 18:08

@ASGIRC My girl has a very similar schedule at the moment!

thislittlebird · 27/08/2024 18:34

Mine actually does go to bed earlier now, she’s slept through from 5 or 6 weeks but has gradually started going earlier of her own accord. Nothing we’ve done, it’s just what she wants to do it seems! So now she goes to bed at 9 or 10 (it has gradually moved forward from midnight) and gets up about 7 when I wake her up. But we’re formula feeding at this point so it’s very different if you’re breastfeeding, and then on top of that every baby is different.

@Doughnut89 she’s just started taking 180 in the last week or so and she’s 15 weeks now. It’s funny how they hit most milestones at the same time.

We’re going on holiday to Italy with her in a couple of weeks and I’m starting to get cold feet! We’re staying at a campsite though so worst case we can hang out on site and use the pools if she’s being too fussy to take into the city for very long.

@TheBirdintheCave have you had your holiday yet?

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 27/08/2024 18:53

@thislittlebird We fly on Friday! Very excited! 😬 I was washing all of the buggy bits earlier as I love travelling with everything clean 😅

Where abouts in Italy are you going?

thislittlebird · 27/08/2024 19:24

@TheBirdintheCave we're going to Florence! Staying at a Hu campsite in a chalet with a kitchen which I'm hoping will work well. Planning to use public transport so we don't need a campsite. We got a new travel pram so it's clean now but won't be for long, I'm sure. Where are you off to?

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 28/08/2024 07:58

Oh Florence is lovely :) I'd recommend popping over to Pisa, if you're not already planning too, as it's not far. Maybe Herculaneum too!

We're off to Vienna and are day tripping Melk, Sopron and Bratislava too 😬

Last couple of bits to sort out today and we're getting the bus to Heathrow tomorrow afternoon :)

thislittlebird · 29/08/2024 10:17

@TheBirdintheCave we’re thinking of Pisa by train, but because we’re not driving I’m not sure what else would be feasible. Also planning to play it by ear a bit because the baby is very fussy at the moment with feeds so anticipating we might not get a lot done most days. We might do things like one of us goes into the city to see a gallery and the other hangs at the site if she’s proving hard to move around with, I really need to do some planning around this trip as currently I’ve done none. It’s looking hot there so I’ve bought a pram share and pram fan for her.

You’ve got a lot planned! Are you guys driving? I wish we were more confident with driving abroad now we have a baby but both of us aren’t.

KG1244 · 29/08/2024 10:55

Urgh feeling so fed up today. Little one is not sleeping well. Waking every 1.5 - 3 hrs to feed. Anyone else in the same boat? 😩

thislittlebird · 29/08/2024 14:08

@KG1244 I’m not currently in that boat but that sounds rough, what was he doing before?

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 29/08/2024 16:56

@thislittlebird Nope! We do everything by bus and train 😂 Trains in central Italy are pretty good so I reckon you'd be ok to do some little hops over to other places.

KG1244 · 29/08/2024 20:38

@thislittlebird sleeping for up to 6 hours before 😩

PollywithaP · 30/08/2024 08:02

@KG1244 How old is your little one now? We have had nights like this but on the whole my little one (16w) is sleeping for longer stretches now. Although we have had a lot of chuckling and wide awake smiles when she is awake during the night.Could be teething? We have a lot of whingey rubbing of gums at the moment, so I think the teeth are grumbling away in there somewhere, or a growth spurt? Maybe baby is just mixing it up for you! A friend of mine recommended the wonder weeks app which tells you about growth spurts and development stages and helps you make sense of what is going on. Hope you get some longer stretches soon.

thislittlebird · 30/08/2024 19:41

@KG1244 oh that’s not great, i bet you’re shattered and it’s frustrating becUse you think they’re sleeping longer and then it’s back to regular wake-ups.

She’s definitely been a fussy beggar lately now she’s approaching 4 month but so far it hasn’t impacted sleep, other than when she wakes up early to aggressively and loudly suck her hand 🥴. We’ve been very lucky and so far that she likes her sleep, especially at night, but am also aware it could all go to shit if she suddenly decides she doesn’t like that anymore.

OP posts:
KG1244 · 30/08/2024 19:53

I think it might have just been a bad phase as last night was longer stretches so there is hope! I think it might be a growth spurt. Fingers crossed at least!

thislittlebird · 30/08/2024 20:31

@KG1244 that’s good news, fingers crossed for a good night tonight!

I think I lost my mind booking us a holiday, now I’m just sat around worrying about how she’ll be on the plane and in general while away and also how much stuff we need to take for her for a few days 🥴
