@KG1244 just ordered ours tonight! Scary! We went for this one (in green!): https://www.johnlewis.com/maxi-cosi-pebble-360-pro-i-size-car-seat/essential-black/p110189366?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&s_share=jlappios_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

With this base:

We were going to get one with the Nuna travel system and as soon as they showed us this dh was sold lol. Basically it swivels and pulls out to you so you don’t have to bend into the car. Felt like a win at our age!

OP posts:
thislittlebird · 28/02/2024 22:45

There’s obviously cheaper ones around, we just really wanted this one! And I loved the green.

Also to add, we didn’t want to be stuck with Nuna the brand if we didn’t get on with it. And it seems the bases only work with that brand of car seat. So maxi cosi felt like a sound choice for the next size up.

OP posts:
ASGIRC · 29/02/2024 15:32

@KG1244 I got a full travel system, so it came with a car sear. Mine is the kind that comes out. Again, when I bought the pram, I didnt even have a car, so the car aspect of it was not very important to me.

TheBirdintheCave · 29/02/2024 15:52

@thislittlebird They're large in terms of length but the width is generous. Not amazing in terms of arch support, they feel quite flat though it's very cushioned.

thislittlebird · 29/02/2024 19:05

We would have got a travel system too if we hadn’t seen that maxi cosi one. It lies flat too, which is handy.

@TheBirdintheCave interesting, thanks! I’m tempted to go to Westfield at the weekend and try some on. The arch and width will be key!

I got a book for free from a friend of a friend. I thought it pointless but it’s nice to have a comprehensive list & book is not judgemental at all. Had a couple things I hadnt thought about. It’s an older booked called “Babycare week by week: the first six months”.

thislittlebird · 29/02/2024 23:15

I read a good article about baby books and it was kinda saying just take what you need from them, because unless you align with x or y school of thought then they’re annoying. The one I have is more like “I find…” rather than “you should” and we wanted to read it to get ideas about routine really.

Anyone else got terrible calf cramps? They’ve started at night and omg they’re painful af. I wake up shouting and dh starts to rub my leg.

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 01/03/2024 09:04

@thislittlebird That sounds rough. Are you drinking enough? Sometimes cramps are caused by dehydration.

I managed to nearly faint at Zumba last night, eugh. It was the spinning parts.

thislittlebird · 01/03/2024 09:22

@TheBirdintheCave a bit too much? you must be very active still, I can barely walk 😭😂

Last night I threw everything at the cramps. Took magnesium, had a bath with magnesium salts, hot water battle on the calf, put a pillow under my leg and drank more water! I might have not been drinking as much lately as work has been very busy and I’ve forgotten.

another complaint: I hate how feminine most changing bags are. I wanted one with compartments that doesn’t cost the earth but most are way too feminine for me, never mind dh. So we’ve settled on a black babymel rucksack I think, it’s not quite what I want but I’m bored of looking at them.

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 01/03/2024 09:31

@thislittlebird Hahaha I found the opposite with changing bags. The ones I looked at were all really formal and boring (black or tan etc). We had a tan one for my son but I wanted something a little more fun this time so we've gone with this:

https://www.amazon.com/BabbleRoo-Diaper-Bag-Backpack-Essentials/dp/B0BYJ7NTRV

It's an American brand and you can only get the 'sea creatures' print in the US so I've had to have it shipped but eh. I just love how many pockets it has and it's going to work so well for our reusable nappies and wipes.

Also yes, I'm trying to keep active (perhaps doing too much now as evidenced by yesterday!) as I really didn't when I was having my son and I'm scared of putting too much weight on again 😂

thislittlebird · 01/03/2024 09:39

@TheBirdintheCave I’m really scared of the weight gain tbh, it’s over 10kg already and it’s clearly impacting my legs and feet with three months to go 😩. But I don’t know what to do, I’m too tired and my legs and feet hurt. I could have gone to Pilates today but the rain and leg issue put me off. I was only really ok (not insanely tired/feeling fine) for a few weeks and I started walking lots but then the foot issue started :/

That’s a cute bag. I’ve seen lots of cute ones but I don’t want a cute one lol so I’m annoyed at how there aren’t plain but functional ones that don’t cost the earth. I love the Finnson bags but I won’t pay that much. This is the one I’ve got here:
https://www.johnlewis.com/babymel-lola-eco-changing-bag-backpack/black/p110939451?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&s_share=jlappios_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

I don’t love love it, but I like it more than all the others I’ve seen to date for under £60, I suppose. It does have a little external wet wipe pocket which is very handy.

OP posts:
thislittlebird · 01/03/2024 09:49

I would have liked the fawn bag too but they didn’t have it

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 01/03/2024 09:50

@thislittlebird I do like those external wipes pockets! The BabbleRoo has one too but they don't work with reusables though unfortunately so I won't get to use it 😔

Yeesh those Finnson ones really are expensive! Reminds me a little of the SkipHop Forma which I considered for a while but ultimately the boring colours put me off lol and the only one I DID like wasn't available in this country.

thislittlebird · 01/03/2024 10:04

@TheBirdintheCave what reusable wipes do you use? I haven’t looked into that yet.

I love the Finnson, very annoying how expensive they are because I don’t feel like it’s justifiable for us with all the other costs. I was tempted to get a regular rucksack but I do want the pockets, I am very, very disorganised so it should help me know where things are.

I just wanted one dh wouldn’t look daft carrying (he’s not gonna pull of any leopard print lol) and there wasn’t much choice of colour really. I’m quite neutral with colours anyway, but wouldn’t normally buy a black rucksack. It’ll be fine I’m sure, will be under the buggy a lot.

My John Lewis delivery started arriving in the rain and it’s all wet lol. The totter and tumble mat arrived and I am excited about that.

@thislittlebird ive had them a bit. Saw a physio and apparently it’s very common. They hurt like an absolute bitch! She said to try and straighten your foot when lying in bed as that is what can cause them apparently

Fun morning for me…acid reflux made me throw up! Think I might need to speak to the Dr about meds.

Sorry if this question has already been asked, are you guys buying newborn clothes? I’ve had mixed messages from friends as to whether they are needed and to just start baby in 0-3.

thislittlebird · 01/03/2024 10:26

@KG1244 are they off and on for you? I’m going to drink plenty of water today and do some hot and cold compresses and stretching. It honestly feels like the previous night of cramping had pulled my muscle :/

It’s also my worst foot for the plantar fasciitis so I’m guessing that hasn’t helped.

I’ve bought newborn, yeah. My understanding is their heads shouldn’t slip through? So I guess it depends on your baby size. I have bought a pack of three Next “first size” and first size hats, a pack of two Nutmeg/Morrisons white zip up sleep suits in newborn (£6) and also been donated two by a relative, so not spent too much if they’re massive. You might have a small baby? So there’s that to think about too. Maybe my baby will be big, but I was only 6lb ish and I’m short still, and dh is short and 7lb (also short) so I’m banking on one that’s not massive lol

Another shopping question. Those of you who have a snuz cloud or Ewan the sheep, or another variety, which do you have and did you like it? I know there’s a couple of you here with one child already.

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 01/03/2024 10:32

@KG1244 Yup as (history as a guide) we make very small babies 😂Sorry you're having the acid reflux still :(

@thislittlebird We have a stack of Cheeky Wipes. They're still going strong after three years of usage (chiefly as flannels for shower time currently). I have managed to dye a few pink though after they snuck into the wash with my son's football kit 😑

TheBirdintheCave · 01/03/2024 10:33

@thislittlebird Couldn't be without this for white noise.

thislittlebird · 01/03/2024 10:42

@TheBirdintheCave how big was your son?

Thanks for the link, I’ll note that down.

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 01/03/2024 10:47

@thislittlebird He was 6lb 9oz born at 40+5.

thislittlebird · 01/03/2024 11:18

@TheBirdintheCave did he fit into tiny baby or first size? Assuming newborn was a little big but maybe not, I can’t remember the range

OP posts:
thislittlebird · 01/03/2024 11:20

For some reason my relative bought lots of tiny baby and their baby was nearly 9lb. if my memory serves me they’re for 5lb babies or something like that?

OP posts:
TheBirdintheCave · 01/03/2024 11:35

@thislittlebird The newborn stuff from JoJo Maman utterly swamped him so we did use some tiny baby stuff which fit well for the first week or so.

CoconutGirI · 01/03/2024 13:14

From what I'm reading online ivf pregnancies are more likely to be born a few weeks earlier. Anyone received any advice on this ?
