Oh my goodness, the heartburn is REAL today!

Shrillwaffle · 14/12/2023 00:51

@Cheetocat gaviscon has become my best friend I usually take one before eating a big meal because I all ready know what the outcome will be 😅 lol

Hey guys! What's everyone's opinion on baby nests? Did you get a nest or a moses basket? Or nothing at all? I don't know what to get to have them chill when we're doing stuff other than the bouncer.

I bought a purflo nest! Looks like it will be easy to move around etc - will use whilst keeping an eye on baby!

I didn't bother with a nest the first time around, figured I could always order it quickly if I needed one. We had a lie flat bouncer and didn't end up bothering.

This time around I bought a Moses basket, mainly to protect from my rambunctious toddler a bit hopefully 😅

Ihatewinding · 14/12/2023 10:27

We have got the Purflo nest as supposedly the only one approved for overnight sleeping. It's much bigger than I was expecting though!

Our first was such a shit sleeper initially that this time around we have chosen to chuck money at it, and got an owlet and other "sleep solution" stuff 🙈 if anything works I'll take it!

May be too late if people have already brought them, but a pram bassinet with a breathable base suitable for overnight sleeping is a great alternative to a moses basket. Still snug with raised sides and hood, and if do manage to get them off in pram by rocking back and forth then no dodgy transfer attempts where they wake up straight away! My husband would carry the bassinet upstairs and put in next to me when coming up after 11/midnight feed.

amyg1985 · 14/12/2023 10:29

My antenatal class teacher scared me off baby nests - the lullaby trust put something out a few years ago about the risks of babies sleeping in them. But as long as you watching baby I think it's fine. They are cute.

We're planning to use the carry cot from our pram for downstairs sleeping etc. figured might as well get the use from it for the six months or so they fit in them.

Ihatewinding · 14/12/2023 10:30

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 this is my thinking too, need a safe sleep space away from my just 3 year old. Don't have enough room for playpen really but can squeeze the pram in lounge so will probs use that in place of getting a moses basket 🤔

Havanalily1806 · 14/12/2023 10:35

We have gone with a Moses basket for downstairs.

We attended an online course with my baby academy who really advised against nests. They also said in America they've been made illegal.

For somewhere to put her down we've also got a bouncer and I'll be buying a feeding pillow to pop her in for when we are also sat watching her.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 14/12/2023 11:38

Actually the pram bassinet is such a good idea, and we did use that the first time for downstairs sleeping as just detached from the pram and put on the floor when we got in. This time around my almost two year old is still in the buggy, so I think the baby will be in the sling a lot more!

It's so tricky to know what to buy.

I think the nests are okay if you're watching them. Apparently a lot of the problems were people leaving their babies to sleep in them, and then they're not safe

LavenderSweetPea · 14/12/2023 11:58

I've gone for a moses basket (partly to keep baby out of reach of the dog) but also I've been scared off nests because of the safety issue. I know they are absolutely fine when your watching, but I'm worried I'd nod off while watching or be tempted to quickly nip to the kitchen or something.

Mangotango39 · 14/12/2023 12:08

I live in a bungalow (of sorts!) so I got a next to me style cosleeper with wheels to move around in the day to the living area.
I love one story living haha!

Cheetocat · 14/12/2023 12:12

I live in an apartment so I don't really have to think about where to put baby down either. We've got a co-sleeper style bassinet that we can move around and we've also got the bassinet from the pram. I think we'll get a bouncer chair or something when he's a little bigger but at first I'm happy to just lie him flat in a clear spot, it's the safest for his breathing x

Shrillwaffle · 14/12/2023 14:07

I got a Moses basket of FB marketplace and bought some new bedding and a new hood off Amazon it looks great, I don’t even know what a nest is 😅

Nemo145 · 14/12/2023 15:16

I have a Moses basket for downstairs as also read conflicting info re nests.

I had another growth scan today and my fluid has gone down so I’m pleased about that. Thank you to whoever said it can change, otherwise I’d have spent the last 2 weeks worrying for nothing! It was 7.8 last time and today 5.8.

Hes weighing aprox 4lb now at 31+4.

Cheetocat · 14/12/2023 17:58

I'm at a point where baby moves so much that I am starting to block it out since I'm so used to it, have to keep reminding myself to take notice. 😂

Ebonythoughts · 14/12/2023 20:12

@Cheetocat I've recording the movements on my phone a couple of times because they are literally changing the shape of my bump when she wiggles. I have an anterior placenta so really enjoying feeling all her movements now that they aren't subtle any more. Also as evidence for my husband because every he puts his hands on my bump she just stops LOL

Ebonythoughts · 14/12/2023 20:13

I've never heard of nests but we have a moses basket for downstairs and a bedside crib for the bedroom.

Shrillwaffle · 14/12/2023 21:47

Has anyone else’s placenta moved? 😅 I get scanned twice a week and the whole time my placenta has been posterior, upper and I noticed on the letter from my last scan it said my placenta was right lateral upper is this a normal thing?

Shrillwaffle · 14/12/2023 21:51

Oh and @Nemo145 it does change fluid levels don’t worry sometimes I go and it’s in the 5’s like yours last time was 7.4 they say the top end is 7 so if it’s 7.4 or 7.8 that’s not too much of a big difference

user2489 · 14/12/2023 22:22

@Ebonythoughts do you feel her move in the same pattern each day? I have an anterior high placenta as well and I get nervous when she's not moving as strongly or around the same time each day. I talked to my midwife and so far everything has been all right but I am always on alert.

Ebonythoughts · 14/12/2023 22:32

@user2489 more during the day the usual this week but consistently in the evenings.

I’m not sure if my placenta is moving but last growth scan I had a couple of weeks ago it was across my belly and that’s why movements weren’t as strong but now I feel it the strongest at the top of my belly but I might also be because the midwife said she’s head down now so I’m feeling her feet kick a lot more. Sometimes it feels like her bum is shifting from left to right but head is still down and sometimes it’s very clearly kicks (usually when I’m resting something on my belly lol).

I have a question for anyone who's bottle feeding, or preparing for both options.

The ready made starter packs of milk with teats for the hospital, what is the shelf life on them?

Wondering when to order them, I'm 33 weeks tomorrow.

Thanks 😊
