I think I had my first lastnight @Sunshineclouds11 and it felt like my bump went really firm and a cramping uncomfortable type feeling radiated down from the top of my bump/uterus down to the bottom.
I was lying down so I sat up then I went for a wee cos it said a full bladder can bring them on on google and it passed.

Was very strange and I honestly did think "oh god, not labour" 🤣

Mangotango39 · 22/11/2023 11:05

God the plastic chairs are so uncomfy for GD test, couldn't they put some sofas in haha!
Awful for so long 😁

I will get my results Monday. Hoping and praying. I passed my early one with really positive results!

Ebonythoughts · 22/11/2023 12:31

For the past couple of weeks I’ve had random evenings of feeling a tightness in my bump and lower bump and lower back pain…. Doesn’t last long but is uncomfortable while it’s happening. It’s my first baby so not sure they’re Braxton hicks but I’m guessing they are. 🤷🏿‍♀️

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 22/11/2023 12:52

@Mangotango39 I just passed my 29 week second GD test. Very surprised but happy not to have to do all the finger prick tests, insulin, diet etc!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 22/11/2023 12:53

@Callmemummynotmaaa fingers crossed for some growth at the next scan. That must be worrying

Mangotango39 · 22/11/2023 13:09

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 wooo great news!
I know it's not the end of the world but I can't be bothered either. I am already overwhelmed so don't want to have to learn more stuff my head might explode!!!

Cheetocat · 22/11/2023 14:19

Congrats to everyone who has passed their GD test, I found it very stressful not knowing and the relief when you pass is like no other!

amyg1985 · 22/11/2023 14:37

Out of interest, has anyone not had (or been referred for) a glucose tolerance test? I don't have any of the "risk factors" listed on the nhs website which means my trust hasn't referred me but we did conceive via IVF so I'm wondering whether to ask for one given all the hormones I took.

No reason to believe I do have gestational diabetes, but conscious it's often symptom free.

Gardenfingers23 · 22/11/2023 15:30

@amyg1985 im in the same camp. Not been offered any GD test and when I asked the MW they said I didn’t have any risk factors so wouldn’t do it but it has me worried since you just don’t know what’s happening inside. Seeing MW again next week for 28wk appt so perhaps if fundal measurement looks off they may offer the Gd test?! I’m so clueless on it all!!!

amyg1985 · 22/11/2023 15:49

@Gardenfingers23 - I've done some more asking around and think if you ever have glucose in your urine, they can feel too much amniotic fluid or you are measuring big, they are likely to reconsider a test.

novamama · 22/11/2023 18:14

@amyg1985 yes, me too. I asked the midwife about the test and she said unless there is a reason, they don't offer the glucose test "just because". I am not considered at risk, so they won't give me one 🤷🏼‍♀️

CheeseAndCrackersx · 22/11/2023 18:29

Baby cheese is growing normal, between the 10th & 50th centile & currently weighing 2 pound 10 😊

@amyg1985 that's exactly it. I was tested last time because my sister had it, and so did my cousins. However I also measured big end of second trimester (weeks ahead), growth scan showed a very large abdomen (nearly 100%), and I had sugars in my urine. I also was thirsty.

I think they can tell when you do have it

I haven’t had one, hasn’t been mentioned. Not been weighted either, which I find odd.

Sounds like a test you’re good to avoid if you have no risk factors. If you’re a normal weight and eating healthily, and no indications of growth well above normal I think you should feel reassured.

amyg1985 · 22/11/2023 19:00

Thanks for the reassurance @A1b2c3d4e5f6g7

DmcinT · 22/11/2023 21:09

28 week scan here this morning too and all looking good, baby girl measuring exactly as expected and kicking the monitor as the dr was getting all the measurements 😅
MW weighed me too, 10kg on since the start 😳 she didn’t say anything but I got a gunk seeing it in black and white 😅🙈

With only 9/10 weeks left, what’s our next ‘standard’ one now does anyone know? (I forgot to ask)

Ebonythoughts · 22/11/2023 21:33

Growth scan went well today. All looked good and baby girl growing at the rate she should be they said. The MW fundal measurement was way off but they said not to worry as it can be an overestimation sometimes. They said baby is in the 88% (still not sure what this means) and is weighing 1.4kg so all good for 29 weeks they said.

My placenta is covering my stomach so that explains why I’ve been able to feel her move but not strong kicks, still able to kick count but not always so distinct.

Hope everyone else who needed a growth scan got some reassurance from it x

CheeseAndCrackersx · 23/11/2023 09:46

I'm glad it went ok @Ebonythoughts 🙂

My placenta is at the back and not low they said, but his kicks hardly feel strong these past couple of weeks but he was head down facing my back so I guess if he's in that position a lot then I only have his legs kicking back to rely on.
Explains the heavy feeling down below at times too 😂

LavenderSweetPea · 23/11/2023 10:46

My turn sitting in the uncomfortable plastic chairs this morning for the GD test. One hour down, one to go!

Also I had a chance to ask the midwife all my questions related to the growth scan I had on Tuesday and she's really put my mind at ease. Now just gotta pass this test!

Cheetocat · 23/11/2023 11:10

I was on a plastic chair for the first hour when I did my GTT last week but they let me sit on a sofa in the back for the second hour because they felt sorry for me, it was so nice!

Mangotango39 · 23/11/2023 11:17

Sad times.... been diagnosed with GD as I failed my test .. gutted!

I have the midwife Monday to go through it all. More stuff to boggle to mind!

Iron was also ridiculously low so I have a transfusion next week!

LavenderSweetPea · 23/11/2023 11:21

@Mangotango39 sorry to hear you didn't get the all clear from your test :( did you have any inkling or symptoms at all or just bad luck?

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 23/11/2023 11:21

Glad to see the scans have gone well, and good luck for those with the GD tests!

@Mangotango39 so sorry. It's honestly not so bad. Just remember fat and fibre with everything, and dance or have a brisk walk after eating. This helps process the sugar and brings your readings right down. Nuts, nut butters, full fat yoghurts, avocados, cheeses, seeds and seeded wholemeal breads are all brilliant. And Christmas lunch should be okay also! My major treat last time was baked Camembert - I must have had it twice a week and it always felt like a treat. Commiserations x

CharXo · 23/11/2023 12:31

@DmcinT I’ve put on 14kg and I’m really down about it. I’ve never been this heavy in my life and I’m so insecure about it ☹️
