Ladies, what type of detergent are you using for washing baby clothes? I am at the point where I want to wash everything but don't know what to use. Non-bio Persil was suggested to me - is that ok? I don't want to cause any rashes or allergies to the little one but also don't want to wash everything twice.

LaVitesse2022 · 31/07/2023 18:09

@peonygirl I plan to use the same I use for other laundry. This is from the NHS website:

"There's no evidence that using washing powders with enzymes (bio powders) or fabric conditioners will irritate your baby's skin."

So don't be fooled by marketing into thinking you need a special detergent!

peonygirl · 31/07/2023 18:20

@LaVitesse2022 aaa thank you! I didn't check NHS webpage. I guess I will then use the Persil pods that I normally use.

Mamabear345 · 31/07/2023 18:40

@peonygirl
Always used Fairy Non-Bio on my first so will use that again

Smiffette · 31/07/2023 20:06

I carried on using Ariel, mainly because I have sensitive akin and whenever I've changed in the past my eczema flares up.

It was fine with my first so will continue with my second

Ss32 · 31/07/2023 21:37

Dropping back in! I’m 32 weeks tomorrow, feels scary now! I had a little surprise baby shower at the weekend which was nice, I wasn’t really expecting a fuss as it’s baby2 so it was a pleasant surprise!
The only thing I’m really having a hard time with is Carpal Tunnel syndrome, it’s driving me mad, it’s wakes me up so many times throughout the night!
And to the PP who mentioned their toddler having an hour of screen time a day, that sounds like a good day for us! If I’m not at work, my 2 year old is definitely getting more screen time than I’d like - it’s a short period of their life. This time next year we’ll be back on top form with babies tagging along too!

NSx · 31/07/2023 21:46

@Ss32 wow 32 weeks… I’m only 28w how am I lagging behind you so much, I feel so behind. Are you due September?

is anyone really second guessing their baby names 🥹

Ss32 · 31/07/2023 22:00

@NSx yes, my original date was early October but then was pushed forward to late September! I was settled in the group though so decided to stay 😂

Saturnsmoon · 01/08/2023 07:37

@NSx we don’t even have a name yet if that makes you feel any better.

My best friend had her baby’s name settled by like 16/20 weeks and was 100% set on it. Then started to have doubts around 30 weeks, which she now puts down to overthinking everything in her third trimester. In the end they stuck with the original name and she has never regretted it (little girl is 3 now).

NSx · 01/08/2023 08:48

@Ss32 haha no that’s fine I just felt like I was miles behind 😂😂😂 …
@Saturnsmoon I have 2 girls names and 2 boys names but I’m really doubting myself the closer it gets 😂😂😂😂

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 01/08/2023 09:47

29 weeks plus 2 now! Had my anti D last week which was fine, not as sore/way less side effects than Whooping cough vaccine and they did my 28 week bloods at the same time. Apparently my platelets were a little low but I have no real idea what that means. Probs just that I’m a bit run down?

Anyone else getting braxton hicks? They don’t hurt but my belly just suddenly goes suuuuper tight which is so weird.

Can’t believe Sunday will mark the 10 week countdown!

Koalawhala · 01/08/2023 09:50

We're finding names a bit tougher this time, this will be our 3rd girl so tough finding another name we both love that goes with the other two! Also finding it harder now that we know the sex (we didn't find out with first two) so it feels different to having a hypothetical boy name/girl name. Maybe we just need to see her when she's born and not overthink!

ttcttc · 01/08/2023 10:39

Morning ladies, hope you're all well 😊

I'm 28+3 today. Feel ok (bit tired!). I'm seeing the midwife later 😌

I've nearly got everything for baby now, just need some odd bits. What have you all bought for post maternity care? I've been looking at gel pads, witch hazel foam, perineal bottle. Not sure what will be helpful and what's just marketing. Any tips would be appreciated from those who have been here before or read some good articles 😊

Summer022 · 01/08/2023 13:55

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween Hiya, I’m glad your Anti-D was fine, I have mine Thursday and feeling really anxious about it. Would you say it’s like a normal injection and not overly painful? I have read some real horror stories about the pain and needle size!! Also, where did they inject you? I’m trying to prepare myself for Thursday as not sure what to expect 😆 thank you xx

katherine123x · 01/08/2023 13:57

@Summer022 mines Thursday and I feel the same. Not need phobic or anything but really got this one in my head.

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 01/08/2023 14:09

@katherine123x @Summer022 honestly it’s totally fine! So it’s a bit weird feeling because it’s in your arm for a while because there’s loads of fluid in there but it doesn’t hurt, just feels strange, didn’t really hurt at all afterwards, I actually took the bus instead of driving because I was worried about having a fuzzy head but it was fine!

LaVitesse2022 · 01/08/2023 15:17

@katherine123x @Summer022 I just had my anti D this morning and was perfectly fine. I got it in this arm, was super quick, muscle was just a bit sore right after but that was already gone when I left the hospital. I walked home as felt perfectly fine. Nothing to worry about!

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween I've been getting Braxton Hicks these past couple of days! They're very weird because they only seem to happen when I go for a walk, lower belly gets very tight and heavy for a few moments, and it feels like I could go for a wee but bladder is empty so I know that's not it. It makes me start thinking I need to sort hospital bag asap and baby stuff - haven't got anything other than loads of clothes but they need to be washed too!

peonygirl · 01/08/2023 16:15

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween I am only 27w and have been feeling Braxton Hicks for a couple of days now. The belly gets really tight and I also had mild feeling of cramping, like menstrual cramps but not really. It doesn't hurt, it's just a bit uncomfortable. But with all other things going on -- this can be tolerated :)

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 01/08/2023 17:03

@LaVitesse2022 aren’t they so strange?! I’ve had the same thing with the sudden urge to get stuff done too-we’ve made so much progress with the nursery in the past couple of weeks but there’s still buttloads to do

@peonygirl it’s not too bad at all, just a very new experience - plus my hormones have just gone back to super emotional like in the first trimester!

ES1986 · 01/08/2023 17:32

Anyone else getting leg cramps in the night? Agonising!!

katherine123x · 01/08/2023 17:40

@ES1986 yes and bad hip pain until I adjusted my sleep position. A few ladies here helped massively with that!! Trying to not sleep with your legs on top of each other even with a pillow, always making sure the leg above knee is over the one under .. they explained it much better 😂

ForeverAndEvers · 01/08/2023 17:54

Just placemarking. 28 weeks tomorrow. I seem to have developed what I think is sciatica. Its only come on today so potentially not but shooting pain in my left hip, and down my left leg when I walk. Anyone else had that? Hoping it goes as quick as it appeared as really uncomfortable.

VanillaOat · 01/08/2023 20:17

@ForeverAndEvers yes, me!! Mine is like a shooting pain down but down my backside, it’s so painful and comes on all of a sudden

Sagittarius25 · 01/08/2023 20:19

@ForeverAndEvers yes I also get shooting sciatic pain on and off, I notice if it stand with weight too much on one leg and then adjust back to two legs I feel it. Some days worse than others and can have a few days without it.

monsteramunch · 01/08/2023 20:21

VanillaOat · 01/08/2023 20:17

@ForeverAndEvers yes, me!! Mine is like a shooting pain down but down my backside, it’s so painful and comes on all of a sudden

Me three! It's HORRIBLE and genuinely takes my breath away when it happens.

Mine seems to be most acute when I sort of half lean forward / bend over e.g leaning over the sink when brushing my teeth. It makes me audibly yelp!

Midwife said that it's just down to where little one is on the nerve awkwardly and that there isn't much I can do other than try not to do the movements I've worked out make it worse.
