@jollydollyirl you’ll probably notice (tmi) some dried milk on your nipple when you take your bra off at the end of the day first. Then definitely after a shower or bath is when it’s a lot easier to come out if you plan to do colostrum harvesting after 36 weeks. If you do though definitely watch a video on it first as you can very easily damage your breast tissue if it’s done wrong. There’s loads on it on the internet now though

airmaxJ · 05/07/2023 20:09

@unluckyinlife how many weeks are you ?

Also is anyone else having a reduced appetite? I've enjoyed my food up until this last week and a half I'd say , I'm 37 weeks on Friday. Can't remember this with my other baby's

marleyandme · 05/07/2023 20:13

@airmaxJ yes to the reduced appetite! Which is completely unheard of for me unless I'm sick so it's caught me off guard 😂 I find I go from not hungry at all to my stomach suddenly rumbling but having just a little snack seems to sort me out so I'm eating the weirdest things. Thankfully off on mat leave now so just snacking on whatever, whenever I want to 😂

unluckyinlife · 05/07/2023 20:14

@Amme18 and @Marmaladebear, so I've been told it's possibly my bloody show and to rest as much as possible. Have a slight lower back ache too but I was told as long as it isn't coming in waves to try and get some rest and drink water in case it's dehydration. I've got to go in for monitoring at 11.30 tomorrow as long as it doesn't worsen in the meantime.

I went into early labour at 34 weeks with my son and then stopped dilating but continued in prodominal labour for 3 weeks on and off so hoping it's not a repeat of that🙃

I haven't even packed my hospital bag yet, hopefully it stops with some rest 🙂@Marmaladebear congrats on finishing up with work! I ended on waiting until my due date but as time goes on I do wonder if I can cope for that long! Xx what kind of things do you have on your list?

airmaxJ · 05/07/2023 20:17

I find when I do eat my stomach only then feels really hungry and is grumbling happily for the food lol so I'm making sure I eat as I have no urge for food till I start swallowing lol which is unusual for me

BMK · 05/07/2023 20:29

Oh my goodness @unluckyinlife have you a contingency plan re getting tohosp and child minding in case you end up having to go to hospital tonight!? The back pain with the potential show sent alarm bells off when read that!
@BCxx thanks so much re your earlier colostrum video as I knew nothing about it before that.
The midwife today told me it's from 37 weeks whereas one 2 weeks ago said 36 weeks.
So much for my 'no more peeing in plastic pot' plan: turns out my platelet count is low and it seems this was also the case before last baby was born so had to give more blood and pee to test!
However @Rowanandremy also good bews here: baby has gone head down so all is well!!am v delighted!apparently she has long legs so I have no idea if that is what is making my abdomen SO uncomfortable!I reckon there just isn't enough space in there and I'm guessing she may come early- but could be totally wrong there.
@airmaxJ I actually am the opposite: in pregnancies with sons I couldn't eat normal meals or even half a meal without feeling overfull/bloated and some indigestion. With this girl it's the total opposite!! But didn't have the abdominal discomfort with boys,or earlier nausea/exhaustion!

I’m 36 weeks and only want to snack. The idea of a meal makes me feel queasy.

can’t remember this with DC1

sally16 · 05/07/2023 21:03

Is anyone's still looking for some maternity bits for events or just to have but also normal clothing too!
Asos have a sample sale website with loooads and everything is a fiver!

sally16 · 05/07/2023 21:04

I had midwife today who said I can start collecting at 37 weeks and gave me some syringes and sterile pots as it's easier to express into the pot them draw up haha!
Bumps measuring full term but still 4 weeks to go 💙

BCxx · 05/07/2023 21:20

@BMK yeah it seems to be a mix of people saying 36/37 weeks. I need to go back and rewatch that video nearer the time. I’ll wait until just after 37 weeks I think as I really don’t want it starting anything off 🙈

Rowanandremy · 05/07/2023 21:58

@unluckyinlife hope resting works! I had a bit of a show but with no blood last week, now I’m resting where I can and hoping i get to 37 weeks because ideally I’d be in the birthing centre. I was in early stage labour with dd for 10 days before she arrived but she was after 38 weeks so less worrying involved.

@BMK yes!! Brilliant news! Ah long legs, that’ll do it 😂 mine keeps shoving his bum about and then shoving at my sides either with his knees or hands, not entirely sure he’s comfortable and my stomach is very uncomfortable at times. Dw keeps saying she thinks he’ll arrive early because I’m 35 weeks and measuring at 40 but could be totally wrong.

Im the complete opposite at the minute with eating, last week I was so off food it wasn’t funny and the last two days all I’ve done is eat snacks between meals. I wasn’t like this with snacking with dd but went completely off food before she arrived so was a bit weirded out last week 😂Found out today I need iron supplements again, I can’t have the tablet form so need the liquid one and it is vile - in smell and taste so not looking forward to that!

@unluckyinlife Hope you have a lovely relaxing evening and that helps! My to-do list has prep things for the baby on like buy/pack hospital things, wash baby clothes, find and clean breast pump. But I've also tried to make a fun list with things like get nails done, meet friends for lunch, take myself for breakfast after nursery drop off etc 😂 my prep list is waay longer than my fun list but gonna try and do at least one fun thing a day (until I'm too uncomfortable to anymore 😅)

airmaxJ · 06/07/2023 05:56

@Marmaladebear I love your have fun list ! I'm going to try my own 👍

BCxx · 06/07/2023 08:05

I like that idea @Marmaladebear 😊 I feel like I’m trying to plan something every weekend with my toddler because we’ll never just have him again but then a lot of the stuff I was looking at doing I kind of realised it would make no difference if a baby was there in a pram too so there’s maybe not such a rush 😂 I so want to do all the nails, lashes etc but my csection paperwork says no tan, lashes or even gel nails so I don’t want to get any of it now in case I end up in early

DesertSnow · 06/07/2023 09:47

@unluckyinlife Great to hear your growth scan went well. It's the one time in life we're all aiming for average, isn't it? It does sound like you might have had a show, fingers crossed all is well for you. I think you can lose the show weeks before labour, so doesn't mean anything is imminent necessarily, but good to get checked out. Keep us updated.

@Rowanandremy Fab news baby is unlikely to flip again.

@P1pk Don't think you're mad at all, my current plan is mat leave at 39 weeks. It's so different for everyone. For where baby will sleep during the day - we have a cotbed in what will be the nursery but also a moses basket, so will use those as we see fit I think.

@HRSC Glad you're feeling a bit better. I really hate it when people touch my belly - I've had a few and it makes me feel so uncomfortable. Maybe this is just a me thing because my baby is so small and therefore so is my bump, but I really hate it when people message and ask to see the bump, it feels so intrusive. But maybe I wouldn't feel as bad if bump was measuring better - it just makes me sad.

@Paintandpots Really glad your other half has come round so you can get the support you need more or less guilty free. Not an extra worry you need to be spending energy on!

@Marmaladebear Congrats on making it to mat leave! Hope you add some more bits to your 'fun list'!

I'm definitely with people on the insomnia - re. appetite I'm hungrier rather than feeling sick at the moment.

I had my fetal medicine appointment yesterday and it's let me feeling quite worried, even though it wasn't all bad. Growth is tailing off - she's dropped 4 centiles in 12 days, and her femur growth particularly has tailed off. However, her head seems huge (95th) - this combination is a marker for dwarfism so we're worried about that. Won't know till she's here.

The better news is that at the moment they're happy to let me try to go to term, if things stay as they are and don't get worse. They've booked me in for a c-section at 41+2 (as 41 is a Saturday), but I'm really hoping to deliver naturally before that. But I am concerned that the growth has tailed off and what will happen with that over the next few weeks.

The consultant also made an odd comment. He asked if we knew the sex and I said we'd been told it was a girl. He said "oh really? I'm not saying anything." Which has left me wondering if he saw boy bits? I should have asked, but I go into a non-rational place in my FMU appointments as I'm just so on edge and worried. My husband says he thinks he was just teasing, as that's the kind of man he is, and that if he saw boy bits he would have said that rather than be cryptic. But it has got me second-guessing. I wouldn't care boy or girl, but it would definitely be a big shock to find out the daughter I've been carrying for nearly 9 months doesn't exist...

Sorry for the long post. I can't believe I'm 37 weeks on Saturday. We found out about the issues at 28 weeks so it's been a bit of ride for the last 9. Guess whatever happens now, it's not long till we meet our babies.

@DesertSnow intrusive is totally the word. I’ve had my MIL rubbing my belly without asking twice and on the second time I politely asked her not to. At what point would you ever think it was okay to just start rubbing someone’s belly normally?! I don’t think I’ve ever touched anyone else’s as I would actually see the want/need to but also wouldn’t want to make them feel uncomfortable, the same way you don’t go about just rubbing random people’s body parts any day of the week 🙈 Just basic manners I think!

Sorry you’re worrying still. I have no clue with these things but I did read something on here once that said femur length was most affected by the height of parents than anything else and it was really the abdomen measurement that showed how the baby was growing week to week. Sounds like you’re in good hands though. Very odd comment to make about the gender 🤔 I’m guessing he probably saw that as being a joke but it isn’t really something you can joke about with weeks to go!

HRSC · 06/07/2023 10:22

@DesertSnow I’m sorry you’re not feeling great. It must be a big worry, especially not knowing for certain. I hope everything turns out ok 🤞 and it’s good to know that you’re in safe hands and they’re looking after you well. I hope you can enjoy the last few weeks with your toddler. The ‘fun list’ idea is a great one - really good to make some time for and look after yourself

unluckyinlife · 06/07/2023 13:06

@Rowanandremy Resting seemed to do the trick! I was tossing and turning all night with pressure in my back but it had eased off by my montioring appointment. They kept me there for an hour and a half and confirmed I am experiencing regular tightenings but they weren't overly concerned as I haven't had anymore bleeding and they aren't painful. They said they believe I am in prodromal labour like with my first but as it took 3 weeks to progress to full labour they werent overly concerned but think I'll deliver closer to 37 weeks than 40.

There has also been a bit of a query regarding steroid injections as due to my coil and lack of due date they have no definite due date for me. My 12ish week scan gave me the due date date of 25th August, but as my babies are generally small said that could be off up to 4 weeks.

I've been given antibiotics for treating a potential infection as my white blood cells are slightly high and apparently this can trigger early contractions.

My husband's home tomorrow so we will be packing my hospital bag and getting stuff ready. The contingency plan is now in place 😅

As long as I don't get any pain, bleeding or other strange symptoms such as strange colour discharge or a temp I've been told I'll be reassessed in the maternity unit on the 16th to make a plan about whether they want to induce me to be able to manage the labour or if they are happy for me to go on naturally 😅

unluckyinlife · 06/07/2023 13:10

@DesertSnow definitely strange aiming for average for once :) My consultant said my babies femur and head growth has tailed but as stomach circumference is increasing that is really positive as the femur especially is affected by outside factors such as parents height. So hopefully things will catch up for your next scan. When is it?

I can't believe people are reaching 37 weeks already, it makes me realise how close things are! When is your next scan?

I have my next one booked for the 28th if they don't decide there is a need to deliver before hand.

unluckyinlife · 06/07/2023 13:11

@Marmaladebear I love the idea of a fun list! I'm definitely going to be making one this weekend alongside all the stuff that I still need to do! xx

unluckyinlife · 06/07/2023 13:13

@airmaxJ They believe 33 weeks as of tomorrow. My due date is a bit of a grey area as I found out a bit later than normal as I have the coil and haven't had a period since 2018 :). They've said it could be anything from 2-4 weeks out. I felt movement quite early this time so I think they could be a week or two out 😊

BCxx · 06/07/2023 14:37

@unluckyinlife that’s crazy! So typical you have small babies too or you’d maybe have had a better idea of when you were actually due. Hopefully your body knows what it’s doing though and just takes over when the time nears. Looks like your hospital bag might come in handy though so definitely a good idea to have it ready 😅 (even if you’re only in and out for more checks)!

unluckyinlife · 06/07/2023 14:43

@BCxx I know it's so typical! When they told us the estimated weight last Friday my husband immediately said it made him think my due date was off as my son was born at a lower weight at 37+3.

As long as baby is healthy I don't mind if it's in 3 weeks or in 7 weeks 😀 I just wish I had a crystal ball!

My one request is that it waits until my son finishes school for the year! As soon as the 22nd of July comes baby is welcome 😃 xx

BCxx · 06/07/2023 14:50

@unluckyinlife must be so hard to try and work out. Maybe you are way ahead of where they’re saying! Haha fingers crossed baby gets the memo and stays put

P1pk · 06/07/2023 16:22

@BCxx thanks for the advice!
@DesertSnow glad I'm not alone on the Nat leave! So sorry about the doctors comments, some people just don't think before opening their big mouths!

I had my health visitor come today. She seemed nice and gave quite a few leaflets for mum gatherings. Asked a lot of questions which seems normal from what everyone's said on here.

Can't believe people are 37 weeks! I'm 33+5 and still in denial we're that close! Waiting for our next scan date still so trying to obsess too much with birth plan.
