Just remembering there was someone on here who wasn’t finding out the gender but the sonographer had said a comment that made it seem like it was one or the other. Anyone remember who that was? Have you had the baby yet? 😅

BCxx · 05/08/2023 23:21

Have explained that terribly but I think they implied it was a boy and the person was then thinking they’d have been as well just finding out rather than going the rest of the pregnancy assuming it was one but not knowing!

BMK · 05/08/2023 23:49

@DesertSnow we might be having babies the same day at this rate!@CityKity what about you? and @LS888 (*you were also due on Friday..?)
I'm not on FB do have missed any other announcements! @DesertSnow same contractions here but fear is that they then go..such has been the situation so far. I have spent so long on the ball, squatting and walking yday and today in the hope that exactly as you say- the baby moves into the ready position to kick all off. I was told earlier that baby's head not down far enough-or wasn't thrn- and it's when it moves down the next bit that it triggers labour.. hence the ball etc in the hope of moving it down.

Paintandpots · 06/08/2023 00:38

Fingers crossed for you @BMK

Thrush nightmare is almost over, i finally swallowed my fears and also used the pessery pill thing too and i think that did a lot of good in getting rid of most of the thrush.

I'm so tired and little one is asleep so im going to try and get some sleep too. Hope to read about more good news/babies being born in the morning.

sally16 · 06/08/2023 00:44

I totally underestimated life with 2..

Ds1 woke up when ds2 fell asleep and its started a cycle and my brain and body is not coping 🫠 I wish I stayed in hospital an extra night already

Paintandpots · 06/08/2023 02:48

@sally16 have you got any friends or family members nearby who can help you out a bit? Maybe they can come round in the morning to do baby sitting whilst you get a but of rest?
Bar that is your other half able to take the two in the morning whilst you try to get a but note rest?

Woke up for the toilet visit and now going back to sleep hopefully.

BMK · 06/08/2023 03:05

@Paintandpots did you go to your mum's in the end?

BMK · 06/08/2023 03:07

I think things are 'on here- contractions strengthening and not going away so likely soon things will take off (the sweep earlier likely helped)

overwork · 06/08/2023 05:57

Ooh how exciting - hope it's progressing well

DesertSnow · 06/08/2023 06:31

What did I say about sod's law? 😅 My waters went at 3am and am having contractions every 30 minutes.

Going to try for natural but if things don't progress looks like a c-section Monday now.

DesertSnow · 06/08/2023 06:35

@BCxx thanks for sharing the 'i wanted a baby not a birth' quote, that's really helpful and totally right.

@BMK hope things are progressing for you!

Glad thrush nightmare ending @Paintandpots.

@sally16 that sounds so hard, especially when recovering from surgery. Have you got good support to lean on?

sally16 · 06/08/2023 06:44

@Paintandpots @DesertSnow I've got a really good partner he's been trying to help but it's like chaos lol I expressed 60ml yesterday so that's last resort in a bottle but trying to make the crying as short as poss so toddler doesn't wake is so hard!

BMK · 06/08/2023 07:00

@DesertSnow oh that's great news! If things are moving thry might push out the c section to give you a chance to deliver.. However my waters went st6 Thursday and mucus plug l night so this is slowest Progression ever (particularly where both last births were +/- 4 hours start to finish ). Contractions have stalled here again for bazillionth time but v v best of luck and hope yours are still going. Thanks @overwork ;and @sally16 the toddler will begin to become oblivious to baby crying, it's just tough at start. Babies are tough, unless you have one of those dreamy ones!! I really (doesn't everyone) want one of those please!!!

HRSC · 06/08/2023 07:01

@DesertSnow good luck! I hope things progress well! 🤞 You’re right about Sod’s Law 😂 it always seems to happen like that! But at least things are happening. Maybe there is some truth to the old wives tales !

I really like that ‘baby not a birth’ quote - I feel like it is helpful for when things don’t go to ‘plan’. Think I will nick that for myself too if that’s ok?!

Good luck to you too @BMK i hope everything goes well!

@sommeliermama i also had a nipple piercing but I took it out at the start of my pregnancy. I haven’t been collecting any colostrum yet as my dr said not to yet. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to feed from that boob however I’ve had lots of leaking so I’m guessing despite the scar tissue it should be ok?

BCxx · 06/08/2023 07:53

@sally16 oh no, this is my fear and I think it could be quite likely to happen, especially early morning since my toddler (who was a good sleeper) has now started getting up very early 😑

@DesertSnow oh that’s exciting! Best of luck and I hope your experience is a good one whatever it ends up being! Did you go into hospital during the night?

@HRSC totally! I think people very easily get swept along with the idea of having to give birth a certain way or that’s how the course they did said they should do it but really as long as the baby and mum are fine at the end, who cares how they got there! I think the judgey comments people are still making (in 2023!) don’t help either or having to feel like you need to justify why you made a certain choice

Paintandpots · 06/08/2023 08:21

@BMK yes thanks, i did an overnight stay over at mum and dads house for friday and saturday. It was a nice rest and they kept toddler entertained, fed and happy.
Have you spoken to your labour ward today? I assumed they would have you go in today as your waters broke more than 24 hrs ago right? Or have the contractions started again?

@DesertSnow i hope your contractions are getting closer together now? And that then pain isnt too much?

@sally16 i feel like your testing the waters with having a toddler and a baby now so im reading your posts eagerly for any tips or tricks you find helpful when you have 2.
How has toddler taken to baby? Does your toddler seem confused or fascinated or not really as babies dont do much at newborn stage that could interest a toddler i guess.

Paintandpots · 06/08/2023 08:29

@HRSC @BCxx people ask me how was your first birth and im always a bit like, dont remember it much which im glad to he honest.
Remember how i felt when toddler was a newborn and put into my arms. I always like to talk about that instead.
Your right, the birth process is not as important as the end result.

I do like how women always tell you their birth stories and what worked for them though, like their giving you a small selection of other techniques or ideas or ways to get through childbirth. Mini teaching moments. Its really sweet.

BCxx · 06/08/2023 10:22

@Paintandpots I think it’s two different things as well of it doesn’t matter how they get out and shouldn’t make the slightest bit of difference to anyone else’s life other than the mum but also, if it was traumatic and people say the ‘oh well at least she’s here safe’ thing I think it would make that whole situation worse for the person still traumatised but going into it before anything has happened it definitely doesn’t matter how they get here!

LS888 · 06/08/2023 14:42

@BMK and @DesertSnow hope things are progressing for you both.

@BMK I’m now 40+3 and getting impatient although it is early days I guess and first babies are usually later. Just need to be patient. Baby was low down at my last appointment but the midwife couldn’t do a successful sweep/check for dilation as my cervix was not in the right position. I have another midwife appointment and sweep booked for Tuesday. If that doesn’t work I will be booked for an induction over the next weekend. Just the waiting game that is hard.

Hope everyone else is getting some rest before their new arrivals make an appearance. And congratulations to all those who have already had their babies. 😊

CityKity · 06/08/2023 19:45

Hi everyone!!! I’ve been radio silent these days because baby boy has arrived!!!

I went into labour on his due date (the first) after convincing myself he’d be way overdue so was actually out seeing friends and on my way home when contractions kicked off! I didn’t really have a birth plan but had intended to start with tens, gas and air, and a waterbath before escalating if needed. Anyway that went out the window immediately as I starting bleeding a lot with the contractions and they wanted me assessed straight away. Everything happened very quickly and progressed fast and in the end baby boy was born 12 hours after going into hospital for an assessment!
Utterly in love with him and am amazed at what the body can do. I just want to stay in this bubble forever ❤️.

I haven’t caught up on all the messages above but I hope everyone is doing well. We’ve had every single type of birth in our nct class and the outcome and delight is always the same!

BCxx · 06/08/2023 19:59

@CityKity aw lovely, congratulations! 🎉Hope your recovery goes well 😊

Recoba · 06/08/2023 20:35

Congratulations @CityKity! @BMK and@DesertSnow hope everything is going okay with you both.

BCxx · 06/08/2023 20:49

Thinking of you both and anyone else going through it tonight 😬👏🏻 @BMK @DesertSnow

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 06/08/2023 21:53

Congratulations @CityKity 💙

BMK · 06/08/2023 22:16

Congratulations @CityKity ,that's an amazing tale! You must have been feeling pretty good to be out and then hav e a baby 12 hrs later! So cute that you are so besotted!*bet you couldn't care less about the flat or anything else now!!!
Thanks @Recoba and @BCxxreal contractions started about 1.45 hours ago and am writing these between them! Hope @DesertSnow you're having some joy and I am guesstimating a baby here before 12 or thereabouts!
