Here is promised thread jessi! Congratulations too Ellasmum and jessi - Ellasmum, my due date will be about 20th July I think. Haven't seen any midwife or doctor yet - trying to remember what I did when last time!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

motherinferior · 27/05/2003 08:35

I'm getting the same comments, KMS - particularly annoying as I've actually put on less than a stone, dammit (don't ask me how or why). And I also keep being told I look blooming when I feel quite spectacularly crappy. My congratulations to anyone who can go on working out of the house at this stage (six weeks to go). I may be still at my desk, but in very knackered, grumpy, bedraggled way.

Dahlia, I'd go for overkill on the packing front. Last time I took only two sleep suits in, then realised about 5 hours in that the new baby had nothing to wear. I'm still in 'oh, what about a home birth' lalalaland, refusing to acknowledge the reality of my pathetically low pain threshold. Confirmation of inflatable birth pool arrived today. That's £200 down the drain then...

Dahlia · 27/05/2003 15:12

motherinferior LOL! I'm sure you don't look as crappy as you think. Are you seriously taking more than 2 sleepsuits into hospital? Do you think you will need more? I have only packed 2, but when dd was born the hospital provided little cotton nighties so I only needed a coming home outfit. I am panicking now.
Welcome to lisita and firstbump!
Happyspider, are you cacking it or are you ok? I wish I only had a week, I'm not due til 21st june and I am having labour nightmares every night now.

motherinferior · 27/05/2003 15:20

Dahlia, sleepsuits were baby's not mine - I think I had some peculiarly revolting T-shirts for me, sporting names of housing associations for some bizarre reason. I seem to remember the doctor asking me about this shortly before performing emergency ventouse.

Wow, happyspider, one week, amazing. Remember to take it easy afterwards!

kaz33 · 27/05/2003 16:21

Dahlia - I have read so many positive stories about second births after s*t first births on mumsnet. I'm focusing on that, and it can't be any worse than last time and we survived that.

Motherinferior - since giving up work I have felt so much better, more positive and loads more energy. Do give yourself a break.

I am now ready, I have just been to John Lewis and bought the last of the odds and ends that I need, packed my hospital bag (well everything but my toothbrush) , stocked up at Sainsburys, done my admin, the flat is sorted.....

Now its just sit tight and wait.

Dahlia · 27/05/2003 17:08

Kaz33, how organised are you? When's your due date? And do you feel mentally ready? I have all the material things sorted (MotherInferior, I was talking baby clothes too!) but don't feel mentally prepared yet. I'm still in the land of make believe, dd keeps saying I have swallowed one of her dolls, or it is an alien baby and she is completely brainwashing me.

happyspider · 27/05/2003 20:00

KAZ33 and MotherInferior, I'm due end of next week,7th of June, so it's just over a week, guess I am getting impatient, that's why I keep thinking about it as just one week now.

I have tried to stop working earlier, but my boss wouldn't give in, but last week (suddenly) he called me in and said I could finish whenever I wanted!
Guess the thought of me attending meeting and going to customer lunches in my husband's track suit bottoms and slippers convinced him more than my sweet talking

Thought I had everything for my hospital bag, but reading Dahlia posting I realized today that I still need to get slippers!! Can't be big like yours Dahlia as I don't have much space left

I am feeling a lot more positive this week (no work!!! it does make a difference!) and I am booked up for all next week at my health club to have all the imaginable beauty treatments.
Mind you, the hairdresser thought it was hilarious I am having my hair done just days before the baby is due, he's asked for the maternity ward emergency no though, just in case.

Hope the baby doesn't arrive early, otherwise I will look crap in my pics!

kaz33 · 27/05/2003 20:48

I'm due this Friday - 30 May - so really have taken my time getting everything ready. I decided that if I was not ready that the baby wouldn't come early !!

Mentally prepared - not quite so sure. Not only do I have concerns about the birth but also with dealing with two kids under the age of 2. Though DS is now a total joy and I am sure he will deal very well with his new sibling - I wasn't exactly the most sorted mum for the first six months of his life and couldn't wait to get back to work. His birth and the subsquent months were really tough.

I am so determined that this time will be different and really want a good birth experience to get me off to a good start.

Certainly finishing work has allowed me to get a more positive attitude and the stuff that I have been able to do round the house has really helped to get me in the right mindset. So i refuse to be scared of the birth or apprehensive of the subsquent few months - I wasn't last time.

happyspider · 27/05/2003 23:00

Kaz33, hadn't realized you were so close your due date, you sound remarkably calm and well. Well done, I am sure your attitude will help you overcome all the difficulties of the labour second time round.

I am trying to get relaxed as well, but every morning I wake up and think... what if ....today?
And any time I feel a twinge in my stomach I wonder if it's the baby kicking or if it's the contractions starting...

motherinferior · 28/05/2003 08:21

I have given up hope of being mentally prepared, although as last time I was in denial (what, me, a baby?) well into second-stage labour I reckon I'm doing pretty well. Physically there's still quite a bit to do, but a month or so to sort it.

Not sure how much I'll pack, Dahlia - tbh, depends on what we've still got that we didn't have to get back, plus what I buy (I'm a Primark fan, btw - great baby clothes, dirt cheap)- and, of course, I'm having that three-hour home birth with a few puffs and pants and a glorious bosom-clutching, remember?

Good luck, Kaz33 and Happyspider!

codswallop · 28/05/2003 08:22

we forgot the car seat.... I was onlt in for 3 hours post natally so it was abit of a pain#Dh managed to swing past pub on way to get it!!

motherinferior · 29/05/2003 11:01

We had massive argument about how to fit the carseat, in hospital car park with newborn. Hadn't dared try it out before.

A vision of kempt loveliness yet, Dahlia?

kaz33 · 29/05/2003 14:32

Well ladies I AM IN LABOUR !!

Started at 3am this morning, phoned midwifes and was re-directed to hospital as none on call. Because 2nd labour and previous c-section told to come to hospital which we promptly did - getting there at 4am. Examined at 5.30am - 3 cm dilated, excellent I think!!

Re-examined at 10am - still 3cm dilated - apparently cervix still thining. Bloody hell, I didn't think that I would have to go through that twice. Decided to come home, had a sleep and now just had lunch to keep strength up. So coming up to my first 12 hours.

Fingers crossed at the moment that I won't do another 30 hours marathon. Then of course when i do eventually get fully dilated, will I have the same problem with delivery causing another c-section.

Ah well trying to stay positive - at least we are on the way.

WideWebWitch · 29/05/2003 14:36

Oh how exciting Kaz33, looking forward to your news!

motherinferior · 29/05/2003 14:41

Thinking of you Kaz!! Best wishes for a shorter labour this time!

LucieB · 29/05/2003 16:36

Kaz - looking forward to reading how it all went. How exciting!!! Best of luck

kaz33 · 29/05/2003 16:41

Still here - very bored and very scared. The on call midwife is sick, the hospital labour ward are not very helpful, forgotten how s**t DP is at this.

If anything it seems to be taking longer this time !!!

LucieB · 29/05/2003 16:47

Get yourself a glass of wine and try to relax as much as you can - or are you past that stage now? If you are scared etc, I would just get yourself into hospital and insist on staying there....

colette · 29/05/2003 16:55

Good Luck
It will all be different this time .If you feel up to it have a bath with relaxing oils and the glass of wine!

kaz33 · 29/05/2003 17:01

Thanks ladies, feeling a bit calmer now. We'll probably go back into the hospital early evening and see if i have made any progress.

What does having your waters broken entail ? The doctor suggested this if I did not progress.

happyspider · 29/05/2003 22:12

Wow Kaz33, good luck, hope by now you are in hospital with the baby in your arms!

My sister had her waters broken with all her 3 pgs and she said it just speeded up the delivery.

Please keep us updated (as soon as you can!)

Lisita · 30/05/2003 18:23

hi!!

thanks for your welcome messages!!
i saw the MW and she said im measuring a week and a half ahead of my dates! thats because Lucas is very BIG apparently! she said he will be over 8 pounds... and considering im just over 5 ft and i was size 8 before getting pg, its quite weird!! She also said he will be early (my EDD is 11/7) so it could be soonish... scary!!
Have u all finished packing yr hospital bags? i have, but im not sure about the baby clothes!!
Love to all
xxxx

motherinferior · 30/05/2003 18:40

Lisita, I haven't even started thinking about what to take to hospital...we've got the same dates but you're way ahead of me there! But - see below - I'd take the baby a few babygros and leave it at that.

Oooooooh, no news from kaz...
