Here is promised thread jessi! Congratulations too Ellasmum and jessi - Ellasmum, my due date will be about 20th July I think. Haven't seen any midwife or doctor yet - trying to remember what I did when last time!

God, I've missed all the action haven't I? I hope Kaz33 is ok, it's all very exciting and scary - makes you realise that your turn is fast approaching! I can hardly walk at the moment with very bad swollen ankles and feet and I am feeling very sorry for myself. Much as this weather is lovely, its also cack!

jessi · 31/05/2003 08:11

Kaz33! Hope you are OK! Really been thinking of you these last few days.
Dahlia, I also have the ankle thing going on and its so depressing as they just look so unsightly.
Had my 36wk appt with the midwife and it finally has dawned on me that I am actually doing this! She was telling me to pack my bag this weekend and gave me the tel no of the labour ward etc. Really brought home to me that I do only have 4 weeks left. Beautifully I won the nappy competition on mumsnet which has really made my day!
Meanwhile, where are you Musica, haven't seen you on here for eons? Hope all is well.

happyspider · 31/05/2003 10:45

my ankles are swelling even more now, thanks to the heat: I didn't think it was possible!
I went for a pedicure yesterday and the girl was very sympatetic, but I could see she was surprised by the size. In fact she kept repeating:
"It's only temporary, don't worry" as to reassure me.
and surprise, surprise I had to buy slippers in a bigger size too...

Kaz33, pls let us know what's happened...
I think I should be next...

motherinferior · 31/05/2003 12:01

Swelling ankles here too. Bloke on train just now asked me if I was going to have baby on it, rude git.

Bought some new babygros. Unfortunately DP got 'maternity pads' and 'breast pads' confused, so more stocking up to do...

Bron - Try putting a cold flanellette on your forehead or neck.... keep a bowl of water next to your bed and rinse the fanellette in the night... and put it on you again.
See if that helps.
Bathe your feet too....

musica · 31/05/2003 18:42

I've been feeling really hot in bed too - sadly nothing to do with dh...! I think it is forecast to cool down soon though - I don't think I could take another 7 weeks of this!

OP posts:
happyspider · 31/05/2003 19:57

lol Musica for the hot in bed!
Same here, we forgot to switch the heating off last night and it goes on automatically at 5:30AM...

I woke up in a sweat this morning just before 6:00AM and thought maybe this was a first sign of labour.

DH got really worried, until he said he was really hot too and we worked out what was wrong. I had to go for a swim as the temperature outside made me dizzy. Guess because of my low blood pressure.

I am glad I only have one week to go now

Dahlia · 31/05/2003 20:23

happyspider you are so lucky - I've got 3 weeks yet of looking like a bloated heifer. Had to sit in DD's paddling pool all afternoon being squirted by her water pistol, it was blissful, but so undignified getting in and out!

KMS · 31/05/2003 23:52

also got swollen ankles and very hot at night, but have another 7wks of this. 2xDS's don't like heat either so days are fun!! hope it does get a little cooler as some sleep would be nice!!
Kaz33- hope all went well.

kaz33 · 01/06/2003 09:30

Hi ladies - I have posted on the birth announcement thread my fab news. But in summary Cameron was born on 30 May at 7.41am - 7llbs 8oz. I managed to have a vaginal birth after a very long drawn out labour with the help of the most wonderful midwife.

The difference between the previous c-section and this vaginal birth is amazing. I feel on such a high - every time I look at Cameron I am overcome by my own achievement. Obviously the most important thing is a healthy baby but i am so pleased that I managed to have a vaginal birth. Now I feel i can try and tackle the next bug bear - breast feeding. Hard work at the moment.

Anyway ladies I will now be thinking of you. Happyspider, you should be first - soon you'll be the latest proud mum on Mumsnet.

pupuce · 01/06/2003 10:11

Kaz - if you really want to BF... and are finding it hard - please contact a BF counsellor or contact me....

AliP · 01/06/2003 11:19

Congratulations to Kaz33 (VBAC33!) and glad to hear of all the other imminent mums with mega swollen ankles - mine are huge (roughly the same size as my calves!). Spent all yesterday at a wedding in a pair of flip flops - everyone else in jazzy shoes but nothing other than flip flops fit - my slippers are also getting too tight but I'm too mean to but new ones as i am hoping that they will reduce soon after the birth! Due in 10 days so hear's hoping.

Saskia909 · 01/06/2003 14:16

Hello to all @ mumsnet & congrats to Kaz33 due 3 days after me (and yes I'm bitter). I joined yesterday and have found it very soothing reading all this stuff. I'm on second baby but last was 10 years ago, 18 days late & induced nightmare. I was due on 27th May and have been told that this v. big baby again. Also have birth pool waiting & scared will be too huge & in too much pain to use it. Cheer me up girls - or as that hideous ad goes - "Quote me happy"!

kaz33 · 01/06/2003 15:14

THanks ladies - Saskia, I like you was scared s**less. However, found great comfort in the positive stories that i read on Mumsnet. Also having more info and therefore ability to stand up for myself gave me more confidence to make decisions for myself. Even though my labour was as long as last time ( which is unusual ) it was a positive experience.

I look forward to hearing all about your bundles entrance into the world.

happyspider · 01/06/2003 17:49

Well done kaz33 and congratulations!
A little boy and on time, I am sure you will be fantastic with bf. There are very good video tapes and book, but I guess the help of an experienced mw is unvaluable.

I hope to follow soon.

The weather has been a lot better today, we went to a bbq and it was bliss when it started raining.

I was the only one who could see the positive side of it, guess the others got a bit p*off we had to move indoors...strange how your perception of reality changes when your pg!

motherinferior · 02/06/2003 09:27

One down...how many to go?

BTW, is anyone else getting SEVERELY fed up with other people's comments on their size? Strangers even pat my belly. I've found it difficult all along, but it's really getting on my nerves now!

Saskia909 · 02/06/2003 12:31

Motherinferior - I too have had it with my size. Now too embarrassed even to go to hosp & visit all my NCT friends who were due after me but have already had their babies. Getting v sensitive and convinced everyone laughing at me. DP doing best to be supportive but we're both thinking "can I get even bigger?" Aargh! Want baby!
Kaz33 - Don't call yourself VBAC - although that was great & your 2 diff experiences are an encouragement. How's b'feeding going? I'm wondering will I even remember how to do it after 10 years?

kaz33 · 02/06/2003 13:17

Hi Saskia

Day 5 and breastfeeding hurts like hell - unfortunately I did not really crack it last time and gave up quite early on. This time round I am determined to give it a go - ah well thats a post for another thread.

Good luck Saskia, I'm sure baby will come soon. It is easier with number two as you're running to check that they are ok every five minutes !!

mears · 02/06/2003 17:38

Why does it hurt like hell? Have you got someone helping you? Is the midwife still visiting? Have you got Lansinoh or Purelan for your nipples?
How can we help?

Lisita · 02/06/2003 19:33

hi everyone!!
just wanted to ask, is anyone taking raspberry leaf tea/capsules? my mw said the tea is pretty disgusting so i bought the capsules, and im taking 6 a day as it says on the box. but ive heard some stories about it bringing on contractions/labour and im having really bad braxton hicks today (ive had them b4 taking the capsules anyway!) so im just wondering if its safe to take them?
any help will be appreciated.
hope mums and bumps are ok

Lisita · 02/06/2003 19:37

sorry i forgot to add this! (pg brain)
ive been really hot at night as well, as many of u, but now ive got a fan everything is bliss!! there is a cheap one at Argos (7 quid) that is the right size to take to hospital as well (the wards are very hot!). Also im gonna buy a v pillow that can be used for breastfeeding but i want it NOW to be comfortable in bed!!!!! i cant find a position to lie in!! they are 8 quid (and much more expensive at mothercare by the way!)
hope that helps
love

Jess234 · 02/06/2003 20:37

Lisita,

In the health food shop I asked which herbal teas were not safe to drink, he said you should avoid raspberry leaf tea until you were about 8 months as it does bring on labour. Otherwise he said all the other teas are safe as long as you don?t drink too much. Hope this helps.

Jess

Rachael17 · 02/06/2003 20:48

is the end of pregnancy and labour really that bad im only 15wks an dreading it already
although ive been told im lucky cos the last 2/3 months will b in the winter (baby due 26th nov)
anybody got info on water baths eg more calming etc...
also pain relief does epidural slow things down and does tens really work
look forward to answers xxxx

Saskia909 · 02/06/2003 20:57

Lisita - I guess raspberry leaf tea does have the reputation of bringing on labour but in both my pregnancies I used it (along with so many other things!) deliberately for just that effect - overdosing on the bloody stuff. 18 days late 1st time and no joy yet this time either. It must just depend on the person, I suppose.
Kaz33 - all I remember about b'feeding last time was not being able to get him to latch on without a midwife for the 1st 5 days and then it all clicked into place. This is where letting everything else go really is the best advice I can give. If you are relaxed and letting him have a go whenever he wants without fretting about other things and you are lying about and generally being a lazy slut at the same time - it worked for me! Other friends were desperately trying to keep too many plates spinning in the air and breastfeeding seems to become more difficult the more stressed out you feel. I (via my laziness) kept going for 14 months, by which time I had had enough. Wean when they can ask for it by name I say! Good luck and is there a breastfeeding thread? I am still trying to find my way around.
