@reememberly hey congrats on your pregnancy 😊 I'm on cyclogest and I've got the pessaries til 16 weeks.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 12/04/2023 08:14

The EPAU called and asked me to do another pregnancy test before my appointment tomorrow and the line is so much fainter than it was a week or so ago 😭 last week it was so dark, darker than the control line. Now its still clearly there but not as dark.

@FlyingHighFlyingLow could it be the hook effect? I can’t explain it well, you’d have to Google it, but it’s something about after so many weeks HCG is too high so you need to mix your urine with water?
🤞🏻 Keeping everything crossed that that’s what it is, are they bringing you in to see you?

Mrsrobinsonx · 12/04/2023 08:40

@FlyingHighFlyingLow yes sometimes when you’re this far along the hcg is quite high and can basically make the test faulty. But I hope everything is ok, I have a scan today and epu due to more bleeding so fingers crossed for both of us 🤞🏻

Sb86 · 12/04/2023 09:20

Good luck for your scan today @Mrsrobinsonx and good luck tomorrow @FlyingHighFlyingLow ❤️

ExcitedandNervousC1 · 12/04/2023 10:11

Good luck in your scan today @Mrsrobinsonx !

Mrsrobinsonx · 12/04/2023 10:28

@Sb86 @ExcitedandNervousC1
Thank you lovelies, just got home. Baby is still there measuring almost 9 weeks, thank goodness. Bleed is still there but it’s got smaller, just have to expect slight bleeding and try not to worry as much. ❤️

Sb86 · 12/04/2023 10:42

@Mrsrobinsonx that is wonderful news, hopefully it's reassurance that the spotting is actually positive if it's getting smaller. I've got a subchorionic hematoma and hoping that it will be smaller come the 12 week scan on the 4th of May. Did they say how big it was?

Mrsrobinsonx · 12/04/2023 10:45

@Sb86 the maximum depth of it is now 4mm, they didn’t say how big it was last time. It looks a bit deeper now but thinner, before it was quite a long area but thin and now it’s kind of a circle shape I guess.
but they said it’s not really anything to worry about and shouldn’t harm the baby in any way. X

LilmissCa · 12/04/2023 10:51

Great news @Mrsrobinsonx

38andtrying · 12/04/2023 10:53

@FlyingHighFlyingLow try not to freak out too much about the test, I'm really surprised the EPU asked you to do that. My tests got lighter after 6 weeks, I lost symptoms one day and tests lighter and freaked out, got a scan and all ok.

Obviously we all prepare ourselves for bad news but please don't let the test give you anxiety on its own, I'm really praying all goes ok for you tomorrow 🙏

vix_85 · 12/04/2023 11:40

@reememberly I have been prescribed to 12 weeks but I will be pushing for another prescription!

SnookyPook · 12/04/2023 12:08

Great news @Mrsrobinsonx 😊

@FlyingHighFlyingLow hope you're doing ok and not too anxious. I agree it's weird they've asked you to do another test. Was also going to suggest you dilute the urine a bit as per hook effect. Thinking of you and hope all goes well tomorrow.

I called midwife earlier as been having some pink-tinged discharge. She said it doesn't sound like something to worry about but when she realised my scan was still over 2 weeks away she invited me in for one on Friday! So hoping all is ok. Relieved it's not as long to wait 😊

ExcitedandNervousC1 · 12/04/2023 12:56

@Mrsrobinsonx gosh that's great news! Delighted for you! 9 weeks and positive scan is a great sign! Is that you done now til 12 weeks?

Mrsrobinsonx · 12/04/2023 13:18

Thank you everyone!
@ExcitedandNervousC1 I’m so glad, feel like I can finally relax a bit. I believe so yes! Not sure when the dating scan is yet but had midwife yesterday and she generated it on the system so should get a date some point soon! X

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 12/04/2023 15:52

Thank you @BabyBabyBaby123 @Mrsrobinsonx @Sb86 @38andtrying @SnookyPook , I'd never heard of hook effect before!

Text my DH and he went out and bought another pack of tests to do some dilution experiments, so I shall see if that helps later. Just got to hope all looks OK tomorrow. Bleeding seems to have stopped today so far - not had huge quantities, just spotting really, but always been red. GP did say with my previous for cervical ectropions that that could be the cause. Right-side pain still there but no worse. Nausea still horrendous so can't eat, I'm currently at work running on half a pack of hula hoops, half a slice of bread and a maryland mini cookie 🙈. Being anxious about the test probably hasn't helped though...

myfirsttimehere · 12/04/2023 17:38

@SnookyPook wow it really does sound like we’re on similar journeys! It would be great to share experiences throughout our journey. My first was born at 41 +4 and she was 8lb 7oz! I’m not sure why it would affect the birth weight this time around but that’s what I gathered from my conversation with the midwife! What is your due date?

@Mrsrobinsonx glad your scan all went well and hope your appointment goes well tomorrow @FlyingHighFlyingLow!

38andtrying · 12/04/2023 17:57

I got my first appointment letter just now for 11th May, all going well I will be 13w+3, the last time I got that letter I was in hospital getting a D&C for miscarriage, I don't know why getting the letter has freaked me.

I have a scan this Friday when I'll be 9w+4 and depending on that I may have another one in between times, I'm just praying I get to attend this first actual scheduled appointment, I genuinely won't believe I'm having a baby until this point, if I get that far. I'm a bit emosh right now, mad how stupidest things can trigger emotions.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 12/04/2023 18:11

Thank you all so much, experimental success! Using urine that I didn't really hold (think I last went to bathroom about an hour beforehand so there wasn't much but I was impatient!) I have neat urine on top and diluted 5x and 10x with water underneath. Diluted def a lot stronger.

Still really nervous about tomorrow but has alleviated my anxiety over the weaker test lines.

BabyBabyBaby123 · 12/04/2023 18:28

@FlyingHighFlyingLow keeping everything crossed for you! 🤞🏻

I had my trip to the EPU for my rescan today after spotting on and off since 3rd April and everything looked good. Baby with a strong heartbeat measuring 8+5 when by my LMP I’m 8+6. No reason could be found for the bleeding. I was given a leaflet saying they consider me to be having a viable pregnancy and if the spotting continues longer than 2 weeks or gets heavier to go back to see them, but the sonographer says she hopes in the nicest way possible she doesn’t have to see me again!

I now have to chase up my booking appointment cos I haven’t heard from the midwives despite putting the form in about 4 weeks ago, so that’s a job for tomorrow.

38andtrying · 12/04/2023 18:48

@FlyingHighFlyingLow those tests look great, I'm glad you kept testing, I think EPU were irresponsible asking you to test tbh, could cause complete unnecessary upset and stress, but I don't know lol I'm not a medical professional

Hope you sleep OK tonight and I'll honestly say a prayer for you along with my own x

reememberly · 12/04/2023 20:02

Thanks @Sb86 @vix_85
Nice to see the good updates today and thinking of those waiting for scans soon.

vix_85 · 12/04/2023 20:59

@38andtrying try and keep calm and think about this new pregnancy as the real chance that this is absolutely the one ❤️

ExcitedandNervousC1 · 12/04/2023 21:10

Best of luck tomorrow @FlyingHighFlyingLow ! Glad you had some relief from the anxiety this evening and hope you have great news tomorrow

seven201 · 12/04/2023 21:21

@FlyingHighFlyingLow I'm glad the ladies on here have helped with the hook effect info. It does seem an irresponsible thing for the epu to suggest without explaining further! Good luck at the scan tomorrow.

@Mrsrobinsonx congratulations on the scan. That's great news!

@SnookyPook sorry to hear about the link discharge. It's nice they're scanning you on Friday.

@38andtrying I can relate to that. I went to my midwife booking in appt today (took 1hr 35 due to my history) and felt like a complete fraud for being there! I feel like at some point it will all go wrong again (I've had 4 mc and secondary infertility) and someone will say "well what did you expect, of course this was going to happen?". We just have to hang on in there between appointments/scans and cling on to the fact this is a different pregnancy.
