@sommeliermama oh jeez that sounds really tough 😔 hope things get easier for you and you make it to 34 weeks

DesertSnow · 16/03/2023 23:23

Really sympathise with everyone finding it tough. No matter how much we want these babies, it doesn't mean pregnancy is just an easy or joyful time, no matter how much the media portrays it that way, or people expect it to be that way.

I was really hoping to have more energy in the second trimester but I'm approaching 21 weeks and I don't think I've ever been more tired, and I just don't feel like myself. Hasn't helped that DH is away this week so I've been doing everything round the house, and being on my own has given more space for my scanxiety to grow ahead of the anomaly scan next week. Plus my workload is really heavy with two jobs (though all desk work). Getting to the point that I'm too tired to function!

@Marmaladebear ah congrats on your little girl! 💗We're at 9 confirmed boys and 9 confirmed girls now.

Sending positive energy to everyone struggling. Our bodies are doing incredible things, and sometimes just getting through the day is enough of an achievement.

AnnieApple123 · 17/03/2023 04:22

It really is good to hear that others have similar struggles. I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself to enjoy things sometimes and beaten myself up that I’m not doing so more.

Anyone else awake at 4am? I’ve now started getting both restless legs and night sweats on top of feeling uncomfortable generally. Lovely! Not sure there’s realistically a lot I can do about either. I had both of these in my last pregnancy too and when I mentioned them to midwives was just told they were normal. Having to wash and change sheets everyday is an added task I could do without too.

@sommeliermama That sounds like an incredibly hard job to be doing. Glad you’ve been able to reduce hours slightly. But, as you say, that’s still a lot.

@ChloeN great news about your scan.. that’s the last big one (or maybe last one) done 😅

BCxx · 17/03/2023 07:42

I haven’t had the scanxiety thing too badly this time but I really am dreading the 20 week one. I think it’s just because with my son it was a scary one. He’s completely healthy but the lady thought she saw something dark to begin with, somewhere it shouldn’t be so she called someone in and I assumed she was getting her in so she could tell us the bad news. That turned out to be okay but then they couldn’t get a clear image of the heart because he was lying on angle so I had to go away and go back a few weeks later. I felt the whole time like maybe they knew it was possibly bad news and they were just pretending it was the angle he was at but I went back and everything was completely fine. I’ve heard of the same thing happening to a few other people since so it’s obviously fairly common. I just don’t see the 20 week one as positive now after that though! I was just really glad we’d already found out the gender at 16 weeks and gone home and done the big surprise with our family as I really wasn’t in the mood for celebrating when I came out of that one 🙈

Createcomet · 17/03/2023 12:03

@BCxx it's no wonder you feel that way about scans if that is your experience. It's okay to feel like that! I honestly don't think there's much that can be done about worrying about scans, it's a case of distracting yourself and waiting it out I think 🙄 I hope you have a better experience this time round!

At my 20 week scan my son was wriggling so much they couldn't look at his heart at all. They were going to call me back in but I said I had an appointment with foetal medicine a week later specifically to look at the Baby's heart, because I was born with heart problems....So they didn't call me back in. I then went to the foetal medicine scan and luckily all okay.
But to add insult to injury, my son also used to deliberately avoid the doppler whenever anyone went near him with it, and would do continuous backflips until they lost his heart beat. One week the midwife couldn't get a heartbeat for more than 2 seconds and she gave up saying "if he's moving that much, we probably don't need to be concerned".

He put up a real fight 🤣🤦‍♀️

AnnieApple123 · 17/03/2023 13:06

Oh @BCxx I really feel for you having gone through that. I agree with @Createcomet that it’s no wonder you’re nervous this time. It’s exactly the sort of situation I’ve been fearing too and is a major reason why I’ve opted to have the anomaly scan at 22 weeks rather than 20 as the place I’m going to say that will reduce the chance of needing to repeat it. I’ve attached the relevant page from their site below. I wonder if it might work for you to do this too? I’ve also freed up the following day for a repeat and/or more detailed scan so it could be done promptly if necessary. I’m so grateful to the psychologist for suggesting I see her immediately after so I can deal with any catastrophising. Scanxiety can be so real.

My day has been a little crazy.

At thd start of the appointment she congratulated me and said i must be relieved to be in the 2nd trimester given 'my odds' when i azked her what she meant she said they had put on the system that my baby was given less than 50 percent chance of making it to 2nd trimester given that i had the coil.

I was not told that at any point. In fact when i asked about removal they said chances were it wasnt close enough to the baby to affect it until 3rd trimester and the only risk was to me.

Obviously im even more grateful im 17 weeks now, but think its awful they didnt tell me so i could make the decision to remove it. I was told removal had a 25 percent risk of causing miscarriage.

Then we had to make a plan for the pregnancy with a consultant given that i fall into thr highest risk category and should have been taking aspirin from the beginning (this is thr first i heard about it) . I now have a load of extra appointments, 5 extra scans after my 19 week scan, 21 weeks, 28 weeks, 32 weeks, 34 weeks and 36 weeks and been told if there are any concerns I need to be ready to deliver from 34 weeks which is the 14th of July!

This has caused all sorts of panic as I was planning on working until the due date and have planned all m projects to finish by early August. Less time to train my cover. And I still don't have an estimated exchange and completion date for our house.

The maternity unit nearest our new house is about a 30 minute drive and my husband will be away during the week so I won't have the car until Fridays so I have no idea whether its best to keep my care here even when I move 🤣

I'm desperate to go into labour naturally this time so this has thrown my anxiety all over the place

BCxx · 17/03/2023 14:48

@Createcomet oh that must have been scary, glad it worked out okay! I forgot about the doppler and how you slightly hold your breath waiting to see if they can find the heartbeat every time 🙈 it’s never ending worry!

BCxx · 17/03/2023 14:53

@AnnieApple123 oh that’s interesting, that’s obviously why I’ve heard of it happen to multiple people. I think my husband is terrified of all scans, he just sits in silence and doesn’t ever know what he’s looking at. Usually I just laugh and say itl be fine but at that one when she said ‘let me just get Susan in a second’ I thought oh no, this is what they do in films when they call the doctor in to tell you the bad news 🤦🏼‍♀️ luckily it was genuinely just for a second opinion. My 20 week scan is at 20+1 which is a bit annoying it’s not later. I’ll go for the one I’ve been sent and see if this one goes any smoother.. I at least know it’s not terrible news if you have to go back this time though

newmummie · 17/03/2023 15:37

I just peed & wiped and I'm spotting red blood 😭😭😭 I'm freaking out so much. None is dripping it's just when I wipe, what do I do???

newmummie · 17/03/2023 15:57

I rung the midwife for advice, she said more than likely nothing to worry but to keep an eye on it & if it gets heavy to let them know. I'm just so scared. & my left side is mildly cramping .

BCxx · 17/03/2023 16:16

@newmummie you must be so worried.. they must hear it every day though and there are so many reasons for it so do try to take it easy and don’t think the worst. I’m sure you’ll be fine and it will stop soon 🤞🏼

Marmaladebear · 17/03/2023 17:31

@CityKity hopefully it won't be the same for you and you'll still get your promotion! My unfair treatment is more down to me having a child rather than because I'm pregnant. Weird that the person is also a woman that has a child a similar age to mine (but she is much more senior to me). I've now documented everything she's said as we have had a conversation that I hoped would be constructive but was actually an entire meeting of her belittling me and then pivoting to criticising my performance outside of the childcare incident so felt like I needed to tell someone because she seems intent on ruining my reputation.

BusyBushBaby · 17/03/2023 18:26

@newmummie That must be really worrying, I hope it turns out to be nothing bad x

newmummie · 17/03/2023 18:35

Thanks guys 🥹 the bleeding has completely stopped since & I felt a flutter. So everything should be okay, but definitely won't settle until my gender scan in a week time, pregnancy can be so worrying :(

overwork · 17/03/2023 20:17

@BCxx I absolutely assure you that no one would send you off for a couple of weeks to wait to finish the scan if they thought there was a problem - please don't worry about that. We refer people with possible issues on to other clinics / FMU / Fetal cardiac or whatever is most appropriate. And even then, most of the time it's for a second opinion with a specialist and they don't always find anything wrong.
If we can't see on the day because baby is doing its own thing, there's nothing we can do. At my work we usually rebook after a week to 10 days - long enough to give baby time to get a bit bigger and shift itself into a better position, but not so long apart that we need to re-do the measurements. (And it will all depend on what availability we have).

I finally got my amnio appointment through for next week! So relieved that I'll have answers and we can move on whichever way we choose to, I'm tired of being in limbo now.
Plus someone at work asked me if I was pregnant today (I don't know her that well neither so was a bit taken aback), but if I'm showing enough for people to be commenting, it's really about time I started telling the people I want to know myself!

Marmaladebear · 17/03/2023 20:25

@unluckyinlife sorry to hear that they blindsided you with this information - can't even imagine what you must be feeling. Like you say it's great you're in the second trimester ♥️ but what an emotional rollercoaster!

@newmummie hope you're okay! I've had bleeding too and it's so scary. Glad you can feel movement but if you're ever really worried definitely ring up and ask the hospital for a scan. I've had friends who have done that before

isitaline97 · 17/03/2023 21:59

Hello ladies would you mind if I join you? I haven't joined a group yet and it would be nice to share experiences 😊

I've had a little scroll through to try and familiarise myself with you all.

@newmummie I hope everything turns out okay ❤️ I know some bleeding can be common for some people although I know this often doesn't help ease the worry!

My due date is August 31st so just about in the August crew! Im 16 weeks 1 Day.

I Look forward to chatting with you all 😊

sommeliermama · 18/03/2023 08:46

@unluckyinlifesorry to hear about yesterday - I would have been a bit annoyed at my treatment if they hadn't told me stuff like that so far! Hope you are doing ok ❤️

LS888 · 18/03/2023 09:04

Welcome @isitaline97!

For those not in the Fb group, I had my scan yesterday at 20+1 and all measuring fine. Had to make baby move a bit to see the heart in the detail they need to see if. Told to go for a wee. That didn’t work so she tilted the bed so my feet were higher. That didn’t work so had to lie on my side for a while. But she eventually got the angle she needed! I still have a growth scan booked for 28 weeks due to my previous holiday to Cape Verde (Zika virus is there). But she said she didn’t have any concerns with growth which is good. I feel a lot more reassured after that scan. And officially half way through!

Not finding out the sex of the baby. But a few people have changed their predictions from boy to girl after this scan. Time will tell! I’m excited either way!

sally16 · 18/03/2023 09:59

Hit a new one yesterday..
hip locked while I sat down at work and had to get the ward physios to help me... mortified.. working tonight then off for two weeks! Then will evaluate if I need some time off 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

BCxx · 18/03/2023 15:40

@LS888 aww congratulations, glad all went well 🤩

BCxx · 18/03/2023 15:41

@overwork thank you, I don’t know why I thought that at the time but you just worry about everything! Hoping I will be more relaxed this time and it will go more straightforward!

BCxx · 18/03/2023 15:43

I think the heartburn might be starting already for me.. I’m sure I must have been at least 28 weeks last time before it started but my throat has been on fire this afternoon and I fear this may be it starting early 🙄
