@miltonj heatwaves can bring on labour so maybe kick start the next couple of days 😂

ToCaden · 17/07/2022 18:46

Today has been exhausting. Prob haven't been sleeping as much as I should the last few days.

Went to bed 8 something pm last night. Slept until 10:30am aside from bathroom breaks. Ate and did one task on kid's room. Then couldn't keep my eyes open by 12:50pm so went back to bed and slept to 4:40pm! Just ate again after struggling with a salt craving, and now tired again.

Hoping I've just been catching up on lost sleep and it's not a reaction to the heat as working tomorrow so can't sleep all day!

Beth262 · 17/07/2022 20:27

@ToCaden I've found I've been struggling with staying awake the last few days. Think it's a combination of the heat and baby draining me of everything I have whilst he hits the last few weeks of growing.

@ToCaden my sleep has been such a disaster too. I have barely been sleeping for the last month, up all night peeing/being restless. I spoke to my doctor after last week's admission to hospital as apparently sleep can help the little guy grow and i'll give anything a go really. I doubt there is a UK equivalent but unisom is recommended as a first stop for morning sickness here, which is an antihistamine tablet which can be bought at any pharmacy, and it knocks me out for 6 hours at least if I take it at night, might be worth seeing if there is an approved UK version for pregnancy. The doctor ok'd taking it to help sleep in the last month, and the last week has been amazing. My energy even seems to have mostly returned. I haven't napped in the last 3 days which is near enough a miracle! I have to say I did not have any of these sleep issues with my DD so its just funny how different each pregnancy is. On the other side of the coin, he is still breach, and the pain as his head is sitting trying to expand my ribcage is horrendous. This one is making his presence known!

squatternutbosh12 · 18/07/2022 01:36

Feeling the poor sleep vibes. Wake up most mornings around 4am ,usually end up downstairs for a cup of tea by 6am having not managed to get back to sleep. Sometimes manage another hour ish later in the morning, otherwise just plough through.

seem to be awake at 1.30am now though so who knows whether or when sleep will find me tonight 🤷‍♀️
solidarity with the sleepless crew!

Isonthecase · 18/07/2022 04:59

Also been struggling, especially with the heat. It's the getting back to sleep after yet another bathroom break that gets me.

Gem2811 · 18/07/2022 05:59

I'm with you all on the lack of sleep between the heat, hay-fever and peeing constantly its such a restless night every night. Still working so don't even have a chance to nap just walk around like someone has sucked all the energy out of me

makingabebe · 18/07/2022 07:09

Solidarity with the sleeplessness! I cannot remember the last time I slept through the night. For me it's usually 3-6am I'm wide awake (having gone to the loo already around midnight and 2am). So I hang out with the cats and try to wait until 7am at least to eat something, then will try to go back to bed or just stay awake and get on with things. Have also been bitten in at least 10 different places by mosquitoes so in between that itching, general itchy skin, heat rash, lack of sleep, carrying 6lbs 4oz of baby around and now having to deal with the blazing heat today ... I am really really grumpy!

Had an antenatal class yesterday (from 10am to 4pm!) and really wanted to fall asleep after lunch - husband had thankfully packed ice packs in our cool bag so I ended up creating my own ice-pack-sandals - helped me to stay awake and deal with the swelling and less faff than a bucket of water. But I did have a nap as soon as we got home.

Only three days of work left for me and due to missing two weeks in June from covid, I haven't done half the things I was meant to by this time, and normally I would really care about this but I'm just too tired ... it will have to be someone else's problem now!

Good luck to everyone as we head into the end of July / beginning of August, can't wait to hear about all the babies arriving into the world!

PopGoesBang · 18/07/2022 07:35

Think I've managed 3 hours sleep the last two nights. And had to listen to dp tell me repeatedly how tired he was and how warm he was finding it - my sympathy was somewhat limited 🙈 the dog and I are going to find the coolest part of the house today and hibernate there and take it in turns to huff as we move.

Good luck to those working today, and those in the warmer parts. 30 in Devon is going to be warm enough!

Danani · 18/07/2022 08:45

Good morning ladies! Joining the couldn't-sleep-because-it-was-hotter-than-hell club! I am not looking forward to tonight at all!!! Bring on Wed and slightly cooler and more manageable weather!

In other news, 38 weeks for me this morning. Exactly 2 weeks to go till due date! I don't feel anything different tbh, I know it's still early but no twinges, no aches, I'm actually less achy and generally feeling lighter and more comfortable than a few weeks back which is odd!

How is everyone else getting on? Hope you all get to stay somewhere shady, cool or air-conditioned today! Big squeeze for all! x

ToCaden · 18/07/2022 09:50

@Danani I'm finding how I feel has more to do with how baby is positioned at this stage.

Yesterday was miserable as he was up in my ribs and heat combined with minimum lung capacity was not nice.

He's not up so high today so feeling better than yesterday so far.

Gem2811 · 18/07/2022 09:54

And to add to the hotter than hell temperatures I seem to have picked up a tummy bug 😔

Mufflette · 18/07/2022 10:45

I've actually been fine with the heat so far! But I suspect that's going to change when I try to sleep tonight & it's still 25 at 11pm...

My main problem is my huge massive swollen feet & ankles, I need to go out later and I'm not sure I can fit them into any shoes I can actually drive in 😆

ToCaden · 18/07/2022 10:58

Just got my c section date. 11th august was the earliest they could fit me in. Only two days before my due date so later than they wanted to do it.

For those who have c sections booked, did you get given any times (when to come in, when surgery would start, etc). I've been told I won't be given times until the day before, but birth partner would like some idea so she can make arrangements.

squatternutbosh12 · 18/07/2022 11:07

@ToCaden glad you have a date now even if it’s a tad later than you expected! The days will pass! I’m not getting my time to come in/when surgery will start until the day before either - also would have preferred to know what time in advance but hey ho. Not long for us now! x

CoalCraft · 18/07/2022 13:55

So what I thought was a cold turns out to be covid... Ahh! DH and I both testing positive, haven't bothered with DD but am sure she has it too.

Why now!? 2 and a half years I've dodged this bloody bug and now it gets me on the hottest day of the year!? I was so looking forward to going into the air conditioned office, instead DH and I are stuck at home trying to WFH as best we can around looking after a poorly toddler 😫

Symptom wise I'm fine. Actually started feeling snuffly Friday evening, bit bad on Saturday but already on the mend by yesterday. DH largely symptomless, days he's started feeling it but suspects that's just because he knows he's got it. DD suffering the most with coughing and general snottiness + diarrhoea.

Better now than when I'm about to give birth I suppose but still!!

Unknown6 · 18/07/2022 14:17

@Gem2811 , I have a tummy bug too, do you think it might be the heat rather than a bug?

@ToCaden , my section Is booked in 2 days before my due date too...no times as yet, they keep it a bit fluid incase they need to move your time I think.

How's everyone getting on? I was fine until about 20 minutes ago 😒 now my feet are in water and I'm so grumpy, it's now 35c here, supposed to be hottest at 4pm.

Gem2811 · 18/07/2022 14:38

@Unknown6 might be I felt a bit flu like over the weekend and this is just attacked me this morning was worried it was early labour this morning 😂

madeleine85 · 18/07/2022 16:57

@Gem2811 oh no! plenty of fluids and rest up x

@CoalCraft you're 100% right with your better now than when in labour, but still... so sorry you finally caught the inevitable! Hope you're feeling ok x

I have my consultant appointment in an hour to see how things are progressing. She is the one that would do the birth or C section (I hope), there are 2 more junior doctors on her team, but she did my DD's care and i'm high risk, so hoping for her. Will try to have the "I would rather just do a C section than induction and hope he doesn't get too stressed by it at 37 weeks" chat today and see how it goes. Apparently with FGR (growth restricted babies) inductions can go wrong pretty fast, and i'd rather feel some element of control over all this than have an induction, get stretched out, then have an EMCS, and experience the worst of both worlds. She is very into natural birthing though. It's in my favour though that this stubborn monkey is still breach. Hoping she listens and lets us schedule this in. I cannot believe that the UK is hotter today than California in a drought... hope you are all staying indoors as much as possible, eating ice lollies and relaxing

Unknown6 · 18/07/2022 16:57

@Gem2811 , have you done a covid test, especially if you felt flu like?

Gem2811 · 18/07/2022 17:02

@madeleine85 thank you I've been popping the ice cubes as well

@Unknown6 yeah took test the last few days all came back negative I am on antibiotics for a uti as well so think I'm just really unlucky just now 😔

madeleine85 · 18/07/2022 19:52

Here is a complainy one, so I am sorry to the group for my general whinge. The OB who I love and is amazing/experienced and delivered our DD is on holiday starting next Tuesday for 2 weeks, so unless something goes wrong this week and we have to get the baby out, l am 99% certain that she will be away when I have to get this over with. Instead I get the younger doctor who is really nice and friendly, and probably great, but I was hoping for the more experienced one, not the one who acts like Mindy Kaling (so chatty and wants to be BFFs)... oh well. Beggers can't be choosers. The main doctor today was very non committal over it being a C section or not which was frustrating. She basically said that he is breach and if he doesn't turn, then it has to be one. If not, they have some "gentle methods" they can try to induce to see how he reacts to the stress. My gut instinct is that I'd rather know i'm not stressing him out and just get him out quickly and safely. I'll try again in a week/weirdly now I hope he doesn't turn the right way. I'm clinging to the tiny sliver of control I have over the situation, but that seems to be just outside of my grasp. Anyway, things are unlikely to change in the next week, I just really was hoping for some resolution today. Hope you are all doing well though, and that some of our babies start making their arrivals given the heatwave! When is the extreme weather meant to end?

Isonthecase · 18/07/2022 20:22

@madeleine85 easier said than done but I wouldn't worry too much, the new Dr is obviously really well trained to even be a Dr and perhaps they'll even listen to you more than the older one? Frustrating that your concerns are being ignored though.

@CoalCraft sorry to hear it got you! Lots of fluids and rest and you'll be right as rain in no time 🙂

So done with this heat, overheating really does feel like fluey symptoms. UGHHH.

madeleine85 · 18/07/2022 20:26

Thanks @Isonthecase I am just being a complainer tbh. These babies never do what we ask them to do they?! 😂. As long as he is healthy that is all I can ask for honestly. Just need to keep reminding myself of that while feeling like I have no real handle in the outcome.

Isonthecase · 18/07/2022 22:09

@madeleine85 if you can't moan about a tyrannical parasite growing in your body and ruining all your plans what can you moan about?! They are lovely and worth it in the end but they do put us through the mill to get there.
