@Hope3821 I've had a few of those too 😂 my MIL walked in the house the other evening while I was sprawled on the sofa swigging from a beer bottle ... I didn't tell her it was 0% for ages. It was worth it to see the shock on her face 😂

@SamanthaVimes it'll be interesting to see if they do suggest induction. I'm not sure what they'd class as a "big baby". Especially as the scan estimates seem to be so wrong sometimes. Let us know what they say!

MoiraRoseIsMyQueen · 27/06/2022 12:17

@SamanthaVimes gah growth scans cause so much stress! They have around a 15% margin of error, so it’s really not possible to tell how big your baby is - don’t let it panic you! NICE currently don’t recommend any intervention (induction/caesarean) based on estimated growth, as it doesn’t benefit mum or baby. I’m measuring big (just by fundal height) but my son was a little chunk at over 8lb (and I’m only 5’ tall!) and all was fine, so I’m not worried. This is a great read midwifethinking.com/2019/09/02/big-babies-the-risk-of-care-provider-fear/?amp

MoiraRoseIsMyQueen · 27/06/2022 12:18

@Hope3821 nope, North East England. What’s with the ban on birthing in the pool?!

CaptainCarp · 27/06/2022 12:27

Thanks all! I'm not going in until later this afternoon but I think baby is getting ready to come out as it feels low so fingers crossed it all goes well.
It is what it is if I do have to have a c-section though.

Baby seems nice & active today. Definitely feels like it's trying to push its way out / running out of space lol.

@laurenGame & @ShellUK09 good luck to you both & hope it all goes smoothly!

strawberrysummer19 · 27/06/2022 12:46

@SamanthaVimes I have a 36 wks growth scan tomorrow but I would also like a 38 wks one
How did you go about that?

My baby is on the 97th centile so not happy 36wks is my final scan ! Although I am already being induced at 39wks

X

missv556 · 27/06/2022 13:24

I am not a massive drinker but agree with all the others that have said you can't wait to taste alcohol again. I have a can of tropical kopperberg set aside to have as soon as humanly possible after birth.

Someone further up the thread asked about hospital bags. I have packed for myself:
1x towel
1x nightdress
1x pjs
1x light dressing gown
A pair of slider type slippers
Toiletries
Disposable underwear
Maternity pads
Breast pads
Flip flops for the shower
Snacks!! Most important of all lol

@strawberrysummer19 I have one more growth scan scheduled for when I'm 39+5 which I think is gonna be pointless cos I'm hoping for a section and want baby to be earth side by then

CaptainCarp · 27/06/2022 14:54

@strawberrysummer19 is the 36 week 1 definitely the final scan?
My baby was still between 50-90th centile at that so I had monitoring once a week at 37 + 38 weeks instead of another scan. I think there's the possibility of a 38 scan though as the midwife double checked it was just monitoring & not a scan as well.

Currently just "checking in" to hospital typically its come out warm & im already wishing I had brought my shorts instead of jeans 😂

Hope3821 · 27/06/2022 15:44

Sending positive vibes to you @laurenGame too!can't believe we're meeting so many babies already 😊💕💕

Thx @missv556 for the hospital bag list, I'm going to put some slippers and flip-flops in my emergency bag in case I do transfer from homebirth, great idea!

@MoiraRoseIsMyQueen ah I see, so it looks like the maternity system where you are don't trust homebirths either! why is it cancelled where you are? (except privately?)
Actual delivery in the pool has a nationwide ban here because of 2 adverse incidents, one in 2020 and its been banned since then. Formal investigations showed they were absolutely nothing to do with birthing in the pool but the ban has been kept in place, so my midwife is still not "allowed" let me birth in the pool. Imagine getting asked to leave the pool moments before pushing! Nuts!!! They'll just ban all maternity care that has had any adverse incidents ever then I guess 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Also came across this nugget on the old Insta. Some really useful empowering info here 💪we got this ladies 💪💪💕

@Hope3821 I'm hoping for a home birth too - got all my kit sat in the lounge waiting. Luckily they've not said anything about not using the pool in my area! DH pumped up the pool the other day to check it didn't deflate - definitely wanted to just fill it up and get in for a float 😂

MoiraRoseIsMyQueen · 27/06/2022 16:10

@Hope3821 our Trust have a major staffing issues unfortunately, they are struggling to even staff the ward so can’t run a home birth service. Bit of a shambles TBH! I cannot believe that about the birth pool, that’s appalling - are BirthRights aware do you know? As you say, good luck to midwives trying to get women out at the last minute 🤨

SamanthaVimes · 27/06/2022 16:24

@MoiraRoseIsMyQueen thank you for that article, a very interesting read! Sort of confirmed what I felt from other things I’ve seen

SamanthaVimes · 27/06/2022 16:45

@strawberrysummer19 I got booked in ages ago because a scan I had at 28 weeks showed him measuring a bit big so they wanted to see how he was nearer to D Day

ShellUK09 · 27/06/2022 17:14

My induction time has been delayed as the hospital are behind schedule. I was meant to go in at 5pm but now it's looking more like between 7-8pm and could even be 9pm. Going to have a leisurely dinner anyway whilst awaiting further updates and try to keep relaxing for now. Hope things are going ok @CaptainCarp

strawberrysummer19 · 27/06/2022 17:23

I'll see how I go tomorrow at the scan and then I have the midwife the following day so sure there will be a plan if she's still measuring big - I hope x

JJ1992 · 27/06/2022 17:34

Very excited to catch up and seeing everyone having their babies and being booked in for inductions! 😁🥰 I joined a facdbook group for new mums but it feels a bit like the wild west, Im so glad I found this mumsnet thread in the beginning ❤️

Had a bit of scare this morning, first day at home on matty while bf at work, was doing some painting and realised at lunchtime baby hadnt realy moved. Had lunch and still nothing, so went for a lie down with cake and a fizzy juice. Baby moved after id eaten/drank but only one or two kicks. My next plan was speak to bf (who appeared home thankfully) have a shower and try the ice water and lying down.. Same again few kicks initially then quiet again. Last call was an ice lolly before calling triage. Had my ice lolly and baby was bouncing about again, definitelt had more consistent movements since. So now im in no mans land, i dont really see the point calling because baby has gone back to normal but definitely on high alert for reduced movements again.

Did anyone else find this happened when they finished work and routine changed? Everything is quiet and im out of routine so that could be the reason. Trying not to be complacent but also not over anxious!

CaptainCarp · 27/06/2022 18:17

@ShellUK09 ah well at least you can have a nice meal at home before going in. Just had my 1st hospital meal. Filled a hole but was a bit bland.

Just playing the waiting game now! Although baby feels like its wriggled down a bit so we'll see.

ShellUK09 · 27/06/2022 18:27

@CaptainCarp yeah I had a taste of the hospital food when I was in last week, so glad I can have my own dinner tonight! Sounds like things are happening straight away for you though which is good 😊

KizboBaggins · 27/06/2022 18:29

@JJ1992 I had a similar thing on Friday - I haven't finished work yet but I'd been in the office all week and was WFH on Friday (so naturally I was less busy and active)

Baby is normally busy when I eat breakfast but he barely moved. Tried fizzy drink, walking etc but just wasn't normal. I waited until 11am then called midwife unit just to check - she said to wait a few hours and sure enough when I had beans on toast for lunch he started booting me in the ribs lol. I was embarrassed to call at first because it wasn't even a long time and he did move, but not a lot. But they reassured me and I'm glad I called. For me I think it's because I was consciously thinking about his movements that they seemed so different, because I wasn't distracted. He's been back to normal since but it freaked me out a bit!

JJ1992 · 27/06/2022 18:42

Thanks for your reply @KizboBaggins its reassuring to know its not just me! Definitely something in the mind when you start to focus on them isnt it? That was good your midwife was reassuring. When i think of how worried I was I should've just called!! Hoping the next 4 weeks aren't like this over and over 🙈 have told bf im not doing any more painting (well.. No skirtings!) just incase something in the paint made baby more sleepy... Any excuse 😂

JJ1992 · 27/06/2022 18:54

Also love that beans on toast was the wakener! 😂 Ill need to try that next time

NamelessBaby1 · 27/06/2022 19:35

@JJ1992 I do get a bit paranoid now and again when I realise I haven't felt anything for a while, but then as soon as I start being aware I usually do feel movements so I think for me I think I just don't realise unless I'm actively paying attention. Definitely feel it more the days I'm less active though!

Had my (early) 38 week appointment today and all still good and baby well engaged so happy with that. Onto the dates (which go very nicely chopped up with ice cream) and just tried raspberry leaf tea for the first (and last) time - it's rank haha.

Good luck with all the inductions and whatnot!

Hope3821 · 27/06/2022 19:47

@KizboBaggins yeh ordered one at a restaurant and I could see folks staring thinking it was actually beer😅

@kiwi17 oh good luck on your homebirth too! Got my box of everything ready but I've still to inflate my pool and check it, you're well prepared! 😁

@MoiraRoseIsMyQueen oh wow how terrible is it they can't even fund their own homebirth service let alone the ward! Glad you're able to go private 💕 Same issues over here, I got passed through 2 midwives before I got one who's not even meant to cover my area, they're so short staffed. All the major birthright orgs, charities & TDs are protesting the ban, been trying to get it lifted for over a year now! Slow slow stuff.

@JJ1992 i had that yesterday! Could feel movement but was much smaller than normal. Apparently as they get bigger there's less room for movement and they even start deep sleeping more. My mum was over visiting too so routine had changed. Today my mum left and she's been super active! Follow your instincts, the mat hospitals are always there for us if we're at all worried & won't judge at all 😘

MoiraRoseIsMyQueen · 27/06/2022 20:26

@NamelessBaby1 I’m on the dates as well - although it’s costing me money as my son has also suddenly decided he likes them! I’ve got the raspberry leaf tea from Hot Tea Mama and it’s really nice, blended with peppermint so it just tastes minty.

beetree1 · 27/06/2022 20:53

Hope the inductions are going well
ladies!

Can I ask what snacks people are planning on packing? I’ve got lucozade sports and that’s it. I was induced last time and they wouldn’t let me eat so not sure if I’d even fancy something or is it more for the birth partners?

NamelessBaby1 · 27/06/2022 21:07

@MoiraRoseIsMyQueen ah that sounds much better, I'll maybe give that a try! Yeah this whole pregnancy thing in general is quite expensive, lol, and that's before getting onto maternity pay!!!

@beetree1 I've probably gone a bit OTT with the snacks but I get so hangry and also need to keep my OH occupied lol, so I've got jelly babies, crackers, some mini mars bars, rice crispy bars, some graze box things and will also add some apple juice!
