I’m hoping it’s show time here! I got a grand total of 1 hour and 13 mins sleep last night so great timing but I’ve had a bloody show this morning and what I can only assume are contractions every 10ish mins…being a FTM I’m not sure what they should feel like but at the moment it’s toe curling back and stomach pain then it passes

KizboBaggins · 18/07/2022 10:49

@ChinChilly ahh so exciting!! I also have no idea what it will be like but regular toe curling back and stomach pain sounds like it fits the bill 😅 hope you're coping ok with the heat and are feeling ready, despite the lack of sleep!

Coco9910 · 18/07/2022 12:18

@Danani all my appointments have been at the doctors, not heard of having them at the birth centre but that does sound like a good idea!I hope it goes well!

@ChinChilly how exciting!! I hope this is it for you and you have a safe delivery! Also, I feel for you going through it on the hottest day of the year! 😰😅

strawberrysummer19 · 18/07/2022 12:23

So....after a night of no movements I called in to triage as the night before she was so active!!

Anyway all is fine but as I've been in a few times for same reasons (amongst other things too )
They have bought my induction day forward to TOMORROW
I'm so relieved, have had braxton hicks constantly, the pelvic pressure I have is excruciating, the constant worry of lack of movements I'm more than happy not waiting until Wednesday- don't even care about it being hot! So I'm calling in tomorrow 730 to check they have a bed

X

NamelessBaby1 · 18/07/2022 12:47

@ChinChilly and @strawberrysummer19 how exciting for you both! Hope all goes well with the induction strawberry, and that labour is well established soon chilly!

ShellUK09 · 18/07/2022 13:10

@ChinChilly ah good luck today! I'm sure things are almost over for you now.

Today would have been my due date! Baby is nearly 3 weeks old now. We've had a stressful few days as Ava was reacting badly to the kendalmill formula, we moved from cow and gate ready made to the powder formula and we noticed she had a streak of blood in her poo as she was really straining, she was really agitated and wouldn't settle as if she was in pain. We were really worried and ended up going to the hospital after phoning 111. Ava was checked over and doctor said it was just one of those things and to keep an eye on her (felt like I shouldn't have been in hospital), since changing formula to cow and gate powder she has been fine thankfully so I think that the kendalmill just didn't agree with her. Hope everyone else is getting on okay with feeding, it's hard work in this heat!

Coco9910 · 18/07/2022 13:20

@strawberrysummer19 that’s exciting!! I hope they have a bed for you in the morning so you can get the ball rolling!

@ShellUK09 ahh bless I’m glad you found a milk that suits her better!

Im struggling in this heat..barely slept last night 😩

SamanthaVimes · 18/07/2022 18:27

My baby boy decided he didn’t want to wait until after the heat wave had passed. Edward (Teddy for short) was born this afternoon by EMCS. The birth didn’t go quite to plan but we both made it through safely which is the main thing!

The post natal ward is hotter than the sun though so we’re both slowly melting.

If anyone had an c section recovery tips let me know because I am not prepared for this bit!

CaptainCarp · 18/07/2022 18:48

Congratulations @SamanthaVimes on the birth of Edward!

I'm worrying a bit about the heat today.. Says it's 36 degrees here & inside the house is nearly 28 degrees! Skye is down to just a nappy & doesn't feel to hot until we feed & then we both melt 🥵

Really not looking forward to tomorrow as its meant to be even hotter.

KizboBaggins · 18/07/2022 18:50

@SamanthaVimes congratulations!! Hope you and Teddy are doing ok - I feel for you in this heat! Adorable name btw, it was on my list for our boy

missv556 · 18/07/2022 19:24

@SamanthaVimes congratulations. I had an elective c section 5 days ago and I would say keep on top of your pain relief even if you feel like you don't need it. And walk as soon as you can. For example stand by the side of the bed to change baby's nappy rather than sitting up in the bed. Hold a pillow against your belly if you need to sneeze, cough.

@CaptainCarp same here with the breastfeeding. Malakai is sweaty as hell once he starts feeding. Had the midwife here earlier and she said my body will act like a radiator and make him hotter. The heat doesn't seem to be fazing him at all though but he does have a little bit of heat rash from the sweating.

strawberrysummer19 · 18/07/2022 19:33

@SamanthaVimes congratulations- lovely name!

CaptainCarp · 18/07/2022 20:06

@missv556 weirdly Skye decided last night that sleeping on me was all she wanted & her moses basket was no good. Fingers crossed 🤞 that she doesn't have the same thought tonight!

Definitely like a little hot water bottle! I've found a muslin between us helps a bit otherwise we just stick to each other.

@SamanthaVimes Definitely agree with taking painkillers even if you feel OK. At 3 weeks I'm just reducing my painkillers to morning & evening.
Also although you feel a bit useless & you might want to do lots of different things. Don't. Take everything steady & don't rush your recovery.

Lianna93 · 18/07/2022 21:20

Hi all - just wanted to thank you all for you lovely messages. Baby & I are still in hospital, nothing serious just struggling with feeding atm.
I'll catch up with all the chat as soon as possible 🥰

Has anyone else that's given birth got horrendously swollen feet? My feet swell in heat anyway but paired with pregnancy swelling they are unreal looking like I've been stung by 100 bees

NamelessBaby1 · 18/07/2022 22:22

Congrats @SamanthaVimes ! Babies popping out everywhere now lol! I love Teddy as a nickname for Edward.

Aw hope you get settled with feeding soon @Lianna93 , hope it's not too hot in the hospital, but glad they are making sure you're all sorted before sending you home.

@missv556

NamelessBaby1 · 18/07/2022 22:23

Oops didn't mean to press send - that doesn't sound much fun with the swelling, hopefully that settles down quickly once the temperature drops again!

paintfairy · 18/07/2022 22:41

@SamanthaVimescongratulations! 🎉🥳

Yes the midwife actually said today about feeding and skin to skin is just too hot when it's like this. And to use a muslin between you, for anyone struggling. It doesn't apply to me yet- I refused a sweep today as no way do I want a baby turning up tonight/ tomorrow. And she agreed!

Coco9910 · 19/07/2022 10:45

@SamanthaVimes Congratulations! 💙 Lovely name! Hope you are both doing okay!

@Lianna93 hope you are both doing okay and pick up feeding soon so you can go home!

@paintfairy sounds like a sensible option! Hopefully labour will start naturally for you soon!

Im starting to feel like I’m going to be pregnant forever 😂 Like I can’t imagine going in to labour. I might have had my show last Friday..not sure. It was just like standard discharge but had brown blood in it. I called the hospital and spoke to a midwife and she said it sounds like a show even though it wasn’t jelly-like 🤷🏼‍♀️ Had a bit of back ache but nothing else. I’m only 38+5 but definitely think I’m going to 42 weeks 😅

NamelessBaby1 · 19/07/2022 10:51

@Coco9910 I'm right there with you haha - 40+4 now and absolutely no indication of the baby wanting to come any time soon, not had any show or anything yet 🤷 going to get the midwife to try a sweep today though and see if that gives things a kickstart , it's not that I'm fed up but just starting to get a bit nervous!

NamelessBaby1 · 19/07/2022 12:11

Ugh, just back from the midwife and she couldn't even do a sweep as my cervix is still far too high! Back on Friday to discuss induction plans - at least the baby seems happy and healthy where it is for now!

Coco9910 · 19/07/2022 12:44

@NamelessBaby1 crazy at 40+4 your cervix is still high! Baby must be very comfortable where they are! Will they offer another sweep on Friday before booking in an induction?

beetree1 · 19/07/2022 13:03

Congratulations @SamanthaVimes ! Hope you’re both doing well 🤍

its my due date tomorrow and had my midwife appointment yesterday. Midwife offered a sweep which I agreed too and it wasn’t bad at all! I was a bit nervous to begin with. She said I’m 2cm dilated and have a short, soft and stretchy cervicx and felt the babies head and said it shouldn’t be long! I really hope so. I’ve had period like cramps on and off but still nothing to make me think I’m going into labour.

Apparently because my cervix is favourable she said I can skip being induced and go straight to delivery for my waters to be broken. So I’ve been booked in for next Wednesday i things haven’t happened by then. Apparently it’s a new thing they’re doing at our hospital but you’ve got to pass certain checks. I’m relieved as I really didn’t want to be induced this time round.

hope everyone is doing well x

Mattieandmummy · 19/07/2022 13:52

@SamanthaVimes congratulations! Definitely ask for someone to help you stand and do a little bit of walking as soon as you can so you can be discharged asap - assuming no other issues of course! Peppermint tea is good for trapped wind but be aware it can reduce milk supply in some women.

@missv556 just had my 5 day check and asked about swollen feet as I'm suffering too. Apparently it's all the fluids they give you during a c section and it should go down in about a week.

Danani · 19/07/2022 15:08

For those further ahead… how did you know that baby has dropped? Did you feel any different, or did you find out when the midwife told you so? 38+1 and trying to figure out how would I know? Also when did it happen for you? At my appointment two weeks ago baby was not engaged yet, and I don’t feel any different since then (if anything I feel better) but hoping to hear things are starting to move in the right direction…
