@Danani for me I take weekly pics so it was very obvious in my bump you can see it's now right in between my legs when I sit down mainly

Also the pelvic pressure is so immense now
Maybe not for everyone but for me it's like she is sitting so low, I'm also getting lightening pains down there which is so unpleasant!

X

strawberrysummer19 · 19/07/2022 15:28

I'm 39 weeks today, since Saturday the pressure has been bad x

NamelessBaby1 · 19/07/2022 16:19

@Coco9910 I know, I'm so annoyed haha ; not that there is anything to be done about it other than having patience but still! Yes they will offer another one on Friday but unless I feel like anything has changed I don't think I'll bother.

So jealous @beetree1 lol, sounds like you're at a good starting point and sounds intriguing the plan to skip induction if it comes to it!

Coco9910 · 19/07/2022 16:41

@Danani i started taking pictures last Monday of my bump so I can monitor to see if it had dropped and by Saturday if looked like a completely different bump! I’ve added a photo for reference. Left was last Monday and right was Saturday just gone at 38+2. I’ve felt way more pressure and loads of lightening crotch too 😅

@NamelessBaby1 hopefully your cervix has softened a bit by then! I’m finding this waiting bit at the end quite hard 😂

Danani · 19/07/2022 17:05

Ohhh that’s very helpful to know/see! Thanks for sharing @Coco9910 , @strawberrysummer19 ! So basically I can’t miss it, can I? Like I’ll feel the difference when baby drops. 😄 I don’t know why I’m now anxious about it. It will drop eventually, right?! 🙈

Coco9910 · 19/07/2022 17:29

@Danani I’m not sure I would have noticed if I wasn’t taking photos. Some babies don’t fully engage until labour so I wouldn’t worry if she doesn’t drop!

CaptainCarp · 19/07/2022 19:42

@Danani I knew baby had dropped because I had a massive pressure in my groin & I had the gap reappear between bump & my boobs 😂

Some people at work kept telling me I hadn't dropped, because apparently my bump looked high but I knew I had because it felt so different.

Lianna93 · 20/07/2022 03:22

Hi ladies - That's me & baby finally home today, it's been a rough few days, not gonna lie!

My wee birth story for yous 🙈😂
Woke up Saturday morning with loads of period type cramps & had a 'show' on my pad. Had phoned triage as wasn't sure about it all - But they were very reassuring & had said it sounded like early labour... but my early labour had already started a week prior 😬😂 Had took paracetamol which wasn't working, so from advice from triage, I took codeine phosphate too - still didn't shift the pain. Phoned them again to explain I was still in lots of pain & I couldn't remember when I last felt baby.
Went in to be checked, contractions were getting stronger by the minute - ended up being wheeled up to triage as I was struggling to walk for the pain.
Anyways - Got in, got checked & was 4cm dilated and as the midwife was doing her check my waters burst in an almighty gush 🙈😂
Unfortunately baby was confirmed to be back to back (which I kind of already knew, despite what my midwife had been telling me for weeks prior).
Was still allowed to go ahead with my birth plan though as I was classed as low risk & baby may have moved herself before the pushing stage (spoiler alert: she did not!😂).
Got to the birthing suite, was on gas & air. Got into the pool, pain was getting bad so asked for the next type of pain killer (I can't remember what) so was given then.
Wasn't even in 20 minutes before I was telling them I needed to push & I needed more pain relief 😂 Was offered morphine but it meant I had to come out the pool but I accepted. After this everything became a bit of a blur. The pressure & pain of her being back to back was unreal that I asked for a C-section (they told me no). I then asked for the epidural, which they agreed to. As they were doing their checks, they found that I was already dilated to 10cm (which I told them I was but they didn't listen). So then they refused the epidural.
Everything seemed to move so quickly & honestly there's points I can't remember.
I feel like I kept blacking in & out and before I knew it, two hours of pushing had been past and they got the doctor in to deliver the baby. Ended up with an kiwi birth and Dr had to give me an episiotomy but I still ended up with a 2nd degree tear 🙃

They ended up keeping me in overnight as baby was presenting with a murmur so needed that checked once she reached 24hours. Unfortunately, during that time, baby I & were struggling to establish breast feeding so they kept us in for another night which honestly devastated me because I fully expected to go home. Baby's murmur was checked & it was still there so we've been referred but they reckon it's innocent & won't impact her life.
Monday comes & I've had to accept formula as baby still won't latch but because I'm still determined to breastfeed, they kept me in again.
This all would have been fine, had I not been getting told different things from so many different nurses/midwives. There is absolutely no consistency throughout the nhs & one person way of teaching me to latch is wrong to another person so it's been a very frustrating experience so far.
Anyways, baby & I are finally home with a mixed feeding plan.
We try breast first, if that doesn't work then I express my colostrum while DH gives her a formula/colostrum mix. So far this is going well. Baby has only managed to latch once unfortunately but I'm not concerned anymore now that I'm expressing but I'm still keeping at it anyways 🤞🏻

But honestly- I'm very proud of myself and my body and for not letting my ptsd get the better of me. I let midwives do cervical checks. I let a male doctor do his thing to get my baby out safely and then let him stitch me up (and stick his finger up my butt 3 times... 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃) I've let student midwives check my stitches for me. I genuinely feel like I may have made a huge step in my recovery from my past trauma - it's never gonna leave me & im sure I'll still have obstacles but at least my next smear test should be a little less traumatic for me 🤞🏻😂

Sorry for the long assed post - I swear I condensed it for yous 😂😂😂

Anyways,
Congratulations @SamanthaVimes on the birth of your baby! And a massive good luck to everyone who is being induced or had sweeps and to those of you fast approaching your dates! The finish line is almost there for you ladies!

Also - swollen feet! I can't remember who mentioned this but omg mine are crazy swollen & sore! 😩😩
Hope you're all coping in the heat. The post natal ward was like sitting in the deep pits of hell with how hot it was. I sat about practically naked the entire time I was there 😂😂

So glad you're both home @Lianna93 ! That does sound pretty intense, how long was it then between arriving in hospital and baby arriving? I had to look up what a kiwi birth was as I haven't heard that before! It sounds like you did great though, well done for coping with all the checks and so on.
Hopefully little ones feeding settles soon, it's disappointing there isn't enough consistent support - would you be able to make use of any other feeding support groups or advisors? X

KizboBaggins · 20/07/2022 05:46

I have news of my arrival 🤓 our baby boy Austin was born yesterday at 1.35pm yesterday, at 39+1 - in bloody 38 degree heat! 😅

I was walking the dog yesterday morning at 5.30am due to the heat and the cramps started (had some mild ones during the night but this was different!). Went into hospital at 7am and they found I was already 4cm dilated. By 10am I was 7cm dilated. I had codeine and then some diamorphine, as well as gas an air. The diamorphine made me quite sleepy but it did help. By midday I was 10cm and started pushing about 1pm... at 1.32 his head came out and my contractions felt like they'd stopped so the midwife just made a decision and basically dragged him out of me cause they couldn't wait any longer!

I've got a second degree tear and plenty of stitches, but have managed my first few wees without too much pain. Little boy has latched quite well (I think)... I've not had much midwife help but he's had 3 poos and has been sick twice so he's definitely had some milk. We've been kept in overnight because he had to have a bit of help when he came out (drowsy from the diamorphine). But he's slept mostly through the night so I've had some much needed rest. Can't wait to get home with him and currently feeling really really lucky at how smoothly it all went for me.

@Lianna93 oh bless you that sounds very intense! Glad you're back home now and hope you're recovering ok. And well done you for coping with all the intrusive bits!

beetree1 · 20/07/2022 06:07

Our gorgeous little surprise baby boy was born the early hours of today on his due date! From first contraction to birth it was only 5 hours and all done through gas and air. Didn’t get my water birth as things went from 0-100 really fast but I had a fab labour and feel really proud of myself.

Being kept in for 12 hours for monitoring due to previous strep in last pregnancy but hopefully we will be home this afternoon / evening. Feeling exhausted but so happy to have a gorgeous little boy 🤍

kiwi17 · 20/07/2022 06:08

Congratulations to the new ones! @Lianna93 I'm sure they've checked but does baby have a tongue tie? Both of mine had one and it can make feeding really difficult. We had it sorted yesterday for Asher :) hope things improve for you and well done on getting through.

I've just come back out of hospital after being readmitted with postpartum pre eclampsia so that's not been fun but at least the hospital was cool!

SamanthaVimes · 20/07/2022 06:37

Congratulations @beetree1 and @KizboBaggins hope you’re both recovering well.

I’m still in hospital but going home today (whether they want me too or not!) there’s no chance of any rest here so I’m sure I’ll recover better at home

missv556 · 20/07/2022 06:44

@Lianna93 totally agree with the inconsistencies with midwives and advice. Breastfeeding is really challenging as it is and it doesn't help at all when you think you have it sussed out and then one person comes and knocks your confidence down. Someone else mentioned tongue tie which can affect their latch so maybe your baby could have one. My little boy has it and it took them until 2 days after birth to recognise he had it. Anyway don't feel to disheartened with it all and if you find a path that works for both you and baby then go with it.

Mattieandmummy · 20/07/2022 08:00

@Lianna93 congratulations and it sounds like you have been incredibly brave to allow so much physical contact.

As others said, get your baby checked for tongue tie - it can make it very difficult for them to latch and it's not always obvious at birth. A private lactation consultant would be my suggestion - I paid for one with my first and she was worth her fee and then some. They can check latch, positioning, weight gain and tongue tie too. Plus the lady I saw have me huge amounts of confidence in my ability to breastfeed which by that point was basically in complete tatters.

Danani · 20/07/2022 09:29

@Lianna93 oh my goodness, you've had quite the experience!! But you should feel so proud of yourself for doing it, overcoming your fears and coming out on the other side stronger for it! Hoping it's all smooth sailing from here on out for both you and little bubba! xxx

@KizboBaggins and @beetree1 congratulations on your new arrivals!!! Well done ladies! Such an exciting exciting time! Hoping you're home in no time!

Good luck to everyone else who is going in labour or getting induced these days! At least the weather has cooled down a little and is more manageable!

paintfairy · 20/07/2022 11:02

@Lianna93 Wow, it was intense reading that! I'm glad everything worked out though. But gosh. I have already thought about how inconsistent advice/opinions are, and that's before I've even got a baby. Its not great is it? You need to rely on the right person magically working there at the right time. Not good at all.
@KizboBaggins congratulations! 🎉🥳 Not the best weather for it mind. But how exciting he's arrived!
@beetree1 Congratulations to you too! 🍾 5 hours is pretty good going.
@SamanthaVimes I'm not surprised you want to go home. Awful places to try and actually get any rest. I hope you get to go home today.

JNGO21 · 20/07/2022 11:09

Sooo the sweep on Friday worked! We welcomed our baby girl at 2.30 Sunday morning. 8lb8oz.

I was having tightenings from about 1pm Saturday - no pain but coming quite frequently. At about 10pm, I was about to go to bed when my plug came out shortly followed by some waters. There was meconium so we went to the hospital.

After my waters broke, the contractions really ramped up quickly and were coming every minute. Due to the meconium I was hooked up to monitors to check on contractions and baby’s heart.

I was at 4cm at about 11pm, then an hour later at 8cm!
They were worried about baby’s heart rate so decided am to slow down my contractions with an injection but very soon after that I was at 10cm and needed to push.
The doctors wanted to get her out quickly so decided to use a suction cup to help deliver her, she was born at 2.30am with her fist by her head like superman! She’s absolutely perfect and we’re besotted.

I needed to go to theatre after to repair cuts and tears which took ages and needed a spinal for that (after delivering on gas and air!!)
I’m a bit sore and slow but overall we’re all doing great.

Thanks to all the mamas on this group - it’s been so helpful to read what everyone has been going through at the same time.

Good luck everyone still waiting!

@beetree1 @JNGO21 congratulations to you both! So many babies now 😍

We've just got home with baby and he's done nothing but sleep... I assume this is normal?! I can already tell I'm going to panic over absolutely everything 😅 I wonder if he's still drowsy from the diamorphine yesterday. He's not cried at all... just fed, pooped and slept...

SamanthaVimes · 20/07/2022 12:53

@JNGO21 congratulations! What a cutie 🥰

SamanthaVimes · 20/07/2022 12:55

@KizboBaggins feed poop and sleep sounds about right to me! Being born is knackering for them I think

paintfairy · 20/07/2022 13:08

@JNGO21 omg - congratulations! 🎉 She's beautiful. 🥰

annie1994 · 20/07/2022 15:07

Congratulations @Lianna93 @beetree1 @JNGO21 and @KizboBaggins!!

And for those of you who gave birth in the heat over last 2 days…. You absolute warriors!!

NamelessBaby1 · 20/07/2022 15:37

Oh wow, so many babies! Well done @KizboBaggins @beetree1 and @JNGO21 ! So interesting to hear the different stories!

@kiwi17 hope you are doing ok now with no further need for check ups.

A much more manageable day temperature wise; my mum is across again cleaning out more cupboards for me lol, think it's her that has the nesting bug not me at the moment!

CaptainCarp · 20/07/2022 19:42

@KizboBaggins & @beetree1 congratulations on your baby boys!

@JNGO21 congratulations on your little girl!
My baby was doing a superman impression as well so my sympathies for the tear, literally "know how that feels!".
I would recommended 1 of the cool mat/pads to sit on to ease swelling/pain in the stitches! @Lianna93 also.
DP got a jml 1 from argos.

@Lianna93 have you got an infant feeding team? Otherwise a lactation consultant might be worth a google. I had a couple of midwives offer differing advice but none said the other waas wrong just to "try it this way".
Well done for persevering.
