@Fizzybubblegumbottles Congratulations! I’m glad the birth was a quick and positive experience for you 🙂
@chinchilly So sorry to hear about your grandad, I hope you’re doing ok. These things are never easy, but never mind in the current circumstances aswell. Thinking of you.
@Lianna93 Well done on getting your membrane sweep, sounds like you did great! Sorry there hasn’t been much progression yet but hopefully you’re getting a little closer every day/hour/minute!
I was 40 weeks yesterday and saw the midwife, she said all seems well with baby in terms of position, heartbeat, etc…she has written in my notes that the baby is still 3/4 engaged which is the same as 2 weeks ago but I suppose she’ll probably move down closer to the labour. Still no signs of labour for me, barely even a twinge of a contraction yet so I’m not sure she’s coming any time soon 😩 The midwife told me that due dates tend not to be that accurate and going into labour 2 weeks either side is totally normal…so you should think of it more like a due month than a due date. The thought of things dragging on for too much longer feels a bit blah though. The midwife said the baby is quite curled up and she has seemed to be that way during my last few appointments, so I hope she’s ok, maybe just comfy. The midwife thinks the baby will be quite long (me and DH are tall, but not excessively!) so I hope that doesn’t mean she’ll be bigger than expected.
I’m seeing her again next Fri at 41 weeks and she told me she could do a sweep if I want, to try to kick off labour naturally and try to avoid induction if it came to that. So I said I’d be open to it but just hope it won’t be too unpleasant. She did say she would only attempt it if she thought it would work so it will depend on what my cervix is doing I suppose. She did say she has only had one lady who hasn’t gone into labour after one of her sweeps so she seems to have a decent success rate, although I’ve no idea how my body will respond, time will tell! She said we’ll talk more about induction next week too if baby isn’t here by then. Apparently induction appointments can be quite scarce so I agreed to be booked in for 20th just incase it takes even longer if she only does it next week. She was saying it would be a balloon induction they try first, because it doesn’t use any hormones…hmm I’ve been doing what I shouldn’t do and googling everything under the sun about it, and I don’t think balloon inductions are used everywhere…like with anything some people say it’s extremely painful and others say it’s ok…people seem to say the same with the pessary though. I’d obviously like to avoid these things if I can but I’ll just need to see how things go over the next wee while. The midwife spoke about other induction they would progress onto aswell and it sounds like all of that could take days if nothing works, ugh. Then she said oh but you could always opt for an elective c-section rather than induction…I just hope it won’t come to any of that but in the end as long as the baby is healthy it doesn’t really matter what way she comes out I suppose. There’s still time for things to happen naturally so fingers crossed. Like others have said, I just need to try to keep distracting myself, relax and not overthink things too much because that’s not going to release helpful hormones! I’ll try all the natural induction things I can think of over the next week and see how it goes! Xx
