@NamelessBaby1 did you not have a 34 week appointment? I have mine tomorrow. I'd hate to wait 4 weeks between seeing midwife at this point!

I feel very behind everyone at the minute! 2 weeks left at work ๐Ÿ™„

@HotToddyColdSauvignon glad you're feeling a bit better. Can't believe how close people are getting! Still doesn't feel quite real tbh

NamelessBaby1 · 16/06/2022 08:44

@KizboBaggins surprisingly no, I couldn't believe it last time when she said another 4 weeks! I mean I suppose I should be grateful that there are no concerns so far, but it really does seem such a long time!

Don't worry, those last 2 weeks of work will fly in, I can't believe I'm nearly done already, thought I had loads of time and now I'm panicking about getting everything finished up lol.

missv556 · 16/06/2022 09:27

It's so bizarre to me that people are only now seeing their midwives more frequently lol. I was every fortnight from 20 weeks then weekly since 28 weeks. Sick of the sight of the woman ๐Ÿ˜… it's been a bit annoying but on the plus side you get to hear baby every time and get that reassurance that they're doing OK in there.

Has anybody else collected the 3rd Emma's diary pack yet? The "new family" one that you can get from 36 weeks. I picked one up yesterday and it was the emptiest bag I've had yet! Light as a feather when the cashier handed it to me. Opened it, a few leaflets, a small tube of sudocrem that will probably last for one day with all the nappy changes and a small tube of hand cream(?) or some kind of moisturiser. That was it. That was everything in the bag. Very useful for the family ๐Ÿ˜’ did I get unlucky with a crap bag or something? Or is that literally all they give? Don't get me wrong, not expecting the world but it's a bit disappointing when the last pack came with a full pack of nappies and wipes. Considering its for a new family, I was thinking they'd be some family oriented items or at least something useful for postpartum

Coco9910 · 16/06/2022 11:07

@HotToddyColdSauvignon how are you feeling today? Just try to remember that they have all sorts of pain relief at the hospital to make sure you are comfortable when the time comes! I went to bed the other night and I was so knackered and I had this realisation that what is labour starts when Iโ€™m that knackered at night..I honestly was thinking I donโ€™t think I could do it ๐Ÿ˜… Hope youโ€™re feeling better today!

@KizboBaggins Iโ€™m the same as you! Iโ€™m 34 weeks today and finish work in 2 weeks! Iโ€™m proper on the countdown now ๐Ÿ˜…

NamelessBaby1 · 16/06/2022 11:09

@missv556 it really is interesting how much appointments vary across the country - I would definitely have liked more recently though just for reassurance if nothing else!! Thankfully all still looking good and baby still on a good growth line.
Agreed my birth plan too which was nice to get into writing, and lots of chat about things that happen in labour and just after, so it's all starting to feel very real now!

I got all 3 of the bags when I picked them up a while back, and agree the third one was definitely very disappointing! Feels like they must spend more money pulling all the leaflets together etc than what it's actually worth!

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 16/06/2022 12:25

Iโ€™m 37 weeks tomorrow and finish work next Friday at 38 weeks ๐Ÿฅฑ canโ€™t wait! Everything ready for baby to arrive and I can start having sweeps from 38 weeks if I want to. Hoping I donโ€™t have to wait too long for baby to arrive but knowing my luck will be 10 days over ๐Ÿคฃ need to get my 30th birthday over and done with first next weekend then baby can come ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป๐Ÿคฃ hope everyone is ok in this weather.. not too long and our babies will be here ๐ŸŽ‰

Lianna93 · 16/06/2022 12:33

Just had my 37 week appointment- being sent for another growth scan as my fundal height hasn't changed in 3 weeks. Not overly concerned but very excited to see baby again!

@HotToddyColdSauvignon Hope you're feeling better & have managed to get some sleep this morning. Nothing worse than being kept awake from anxiety!

missv556 · 16/06/2022 14:13

@NamelessBaby1 I've had extra appointments because im high risk. I had very high blood pressure readings at the beginning so they've got me under close observation so I'm not the typical experience tbf

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 16/06/2022 22:19

Much better thanks @Lianna93 was obviously having a mini panic late last night!

Had an epic afternoon snooze today followed by half a tub of Haagen daaz in the garden so feeling very relaxed and at ease with the world again!

Lianna93 · 16/06/2022 23:02

@HotToddyColdSauvignon That sounds like a wonderful afternoon ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป Glad you're feeling better!

OP posts:
KizboBaggins · 17/06/2022 12:31

@Lianna93 how did your growth scan go?

@HotToddyColdSauvignon I also ate half a tub of Haagen Dazs last night (salted caramel ๐Ÿคค) - can't beat it!

I had my 34 week appt today. How important is it to see the same midwife? So far I have seen 4 different ones... only one of them was my "actual" midwife. She was away today. She's also away again at my next appt (which is supposed to be 36 weeks but they can't get me in until I'm 37 weeks). So I'm seeing someone else next time again.

I guess it's fine cause I have no ongoing issues, it's all fairly simple but just feels like next time I will be full term and will undoubtedly feel a bit more anxious and literally not even sure of my actual midwife's name lol

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 17/06/2022 12:47

I donโ€™t think you need to see the same midwife necessarily - itโ€™s nice I guess?, but as long as all the notes are up to date?
Iโ€™ve seen 3 in total I think - and theyโ€™re not going to be the same ones I actually see when I go into Labour as our midwives are different for the appointments at the surgery as opposed to the โ€œones at the hospitalโ€.

I think our trust are trying to move to a continuous care type plan where you do only see one midwife through the whole thing, but itโ€™s taking time to implement / lack of staff / etc etc

KizboBaggins · 17/06/2022 12:55

@HotToddyColdSauvignon ahh ok thanks, for some reason I was under the impression it was supposed to be the same person throughout but I've probably just made that up lol. Just felt like she couldn't get me out the door quick enough today! Appreciate they see hundreds of women though. I'm not as important as I think I am ๐Ÿ˜‚

kiwi17 · 17/06/2022 13:08

@KizboBaggins I've had the same midwife throughout but I think that's just because I'm with the homebirthing team and the idea would be she then attends the birth - last time I wasn't and I can't even remember how many I saw! Also when I got to hospital last time it was different midwives as well.. guess you can't predict who will be on shift when you go into labour ultimately. 37 weeks today for me - onto the dates and raspberry leaf tea ๐Ÿ˜‚

KizboBaggins · 17/06/2022 13:12

@kiwi17 I didn't even think about that hahah it's probably cause I've been watching Yorkshire Midwives that I've got the wrong end of the stick ๐Ÿ˜‚

Congrats on hitting term! Hope you're feeling ok. It's getting so exciting now!

Danani · 17/06/2022 13:42

@KizboBaggins I have seen a different midwife at each appointment I've had! Same as you don't even know the name of the woman who's supposed to be MY midwife lol! I think as you say, when things are straightforward and notes up to date, it's really not a big deal. Also (at least in my hospital) no guarantee which midwife will be there at the birth, so I kinda weirdly like the fact I've seen multiple different ones - I'd hate to see the same for 40 weeks, only to go into labour and have a stranger there. The way I look at it - it sucks not to have continuity of care, however, better chance that when I go in labour I'll see a familiar face! :)

Capricorn8990 · 17/06/2022 13:53

Heya all! Hope youโ€™re all coping okay in this heat.

Iโ€™ve had a โ€œshowโ€ today.. 2 lots of mucus literally falling out of me.. this is my first baby so not sure what to expect but Iโ€™m bang on 37 weeks. Iโ€™ve been having lower back period pains and tightenings.. could I be near to labour?!

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 17/06/2022 14:08

Think that definitely sounds like itโ€™s in the right direction @Capricorn8990 !

exciting!! Monitor the tightenings and in the meantime, rest and get the oxytocin flowing!

annie1994 · 17/06/2022 14:12

@Capricorn8990 sounds like things are moving in the right direction! They say losing your mucus plug could be hours to weeks before labour but itโ€™s definitely a sign your cervix is starting to thin out. ๐Ÿ˜Œ

What are you all doing about contraception after giving birth? I know this is the last baby me and my partner want so I was thinking about getting the coil as lasts like 5 years and can kinda forget about it. But Iโ€™m scared and it makes me feel a bit sick the thought of it ๐Ÿ˜‚

SamanthaVimes · 17/06/2022 14:16

@Capricorn8990 sounds like labour might be soon! Make sure your bag is ready just in case

SamanthaVimes · 17/06/2022 14:24

@KizboBaggins Iโ€™ve seen a different one every time. Last time I had the same one for all my community appointments but this time they really seem to be struggling for staff.

I donโ€™t think it matters too much as itโ€™s so unlikely โ€œyourโ€ midwife will be on duty at the hospital when you go into labour (although would obviously be nice if that was the case!)

Capricorn8990 · 17/06/2022 14:42

@HotToddyColdSauvignon @annie1994 @SamanthaVimes Thanks for your replies! I hope she doesnโ€™t keep me waiting. I think Iโ€™m going to get the coil fitted but the one without hormones x

NamelessBaby1 · 17/06/2022 14:58

OOh exciting @Capricorn8990 - feel like it's a race now who is going to be first to have their baby haha! Keep us all in the loop!

@annie1994 I'm not getting anything inserted or going back on the pill - we managed 14 years of marriage without getting pregnant until now so won't be changing things up too much lol, although DH might go for the snip at some point just to be extra safe.

@KizboBaggins I've had the same midwife all the way so far which is lovely, she's been great! However she's being rotated back off community into the labour ward just after my due date, so might not be there for my follow up appointment, and she'll be on leave for my next appointment too, so will be seeing different people from now on which is a shame! Hopefully the next people I see are just as nice and helpful.

Lianna93 · 17/06/2022 15:27

@KizboBaggins It went really well - baby measuring below average still but they say nothing to be concerned with. Estimating she's about 6.5lbs at the moment. Got some gorgeous scan photos of her sticking out her tongue ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ’–

@Capricorn8990 How exciting! Hopefully it won't be too long until you're in established labour ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

@annie1994 Im very much similar to @NamelessBaby1 - Been with DH for 12 years & haven't used any form of contraception since the 'early days' of our relationship. I'm allergic to latex & high risk of a stroke if I go onto the combined pill & then the mini pill causes me to become severely depressed. So I've just never taken anything for probably about 10 years.
Because we're only wanting the 1 baby as well, DH is considering going for the snip.

annie1994 · 17/06/2022 15:58

@Lianna93 @NamelessBaby1 we did think about my partner getting the snip. My argument is iโ€™ve given birth to 2 kids, you can do something now ๐Ÿ˜‚ but I just know itโ€™s pretty much final then. I would also quite like to not have my periods but Iโ€™m not sure ๐Ÿค”
