Going to hit 27ยฐ here @missv556 , Iโ€™m planning bikini and garden and ice pops and nothing else!

missv556 · 22/06/2022 10:05

@HotToddyColdSauvignon lucky you. I dont have a garden ๐Ÿ˜” and I've got to go to the midwife so have to brave the elements. I want to wear shorts but have to shave my legs first hahaha

Lianna93 · 22/06/2022 10:16

@missv556 @HotToddyColdSauvignon
Ugh ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Super jealous. It's very cloudy up here in Scotland. Highs of 17ยฐ.
In laws came over on Monday to help DH get the garden tidied up so I could spend my remaining childless days in the garden but it's been pish weather so far ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜‚

I was gonna do the usual pineapple, raspberry leaf tea etc... to help bring on labour but I don't really feel like my body needs that push.
However, my sister did say to me when she was having her DD, she sat aimlessly watching tv whilst stimulating her nipples & that got her labour going ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚
Said to my midwife I want to go as natural as possible - so no sweeps or inductions for me but she did say they'd only really let me go 12 days overdue. I'll push this baby down myself if she ain't out by my due date ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜‚ Fuck an additional 12 days of being pregnant ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

@missv556 also in Birmingham, currently sat in the waiting room at the hospital and it is stiflingly hot ๐Ÿฅต

Weโ€™re in a Victorian style house so it stays relatively cool inside as they clearly werenโ€™t built to keep heat in haha

growth scan was fairly inconclusive, kept getting different measurements which gave a weight range of 6lb 10 to 8lb 1 Iโ€™m 37 weeks on Saturday so I hope for my sake she isnโ€™t 8lb 1 haha I think 6lb 10 sounds more realistic seen as she was 6lb 2 weeks ago

kiwi17 · 22/06/2022 13:43

I'm currently lying on a beach whilst my 4 year old plays next to me - come on oxytocin! ๐Ÿ˜‚ nothing worked to induce labour last time for me bar being induced haha

strawberrysummer19 · 22/06/2022 14:40

What are the classic let's bring labour on?

I'm 35 wks and more than happy for an arrival after 37wks!!

I do have induction booked in for 39+1 but anything to help along the way!

I have bought some medjool dates which I've started today ๐Ÿ˜€
I have a birthing ball which I do spent a small amount of time on which I'm gradually going to start to increase

I finish work next Tuesday and now feel
I'm on an official countdown

Lists welcome - willing to give it a go ! Nothing to lose xx

Danani · 22/06/2022 15:56

@strawberrysummer19 in addition to your list, I've also heard about drinking raspberry leaf tea; sex; nipple stimulation; spicy food; walking more/exercising. Good luck! x

Danani · 22/06/2022 15:59

@missv556 It's SO hot here too - 26-27C! I have drawn all the curtains at home; have my fan blasting; sipping on ice-cold water. But I feel for you having to go to an appointment, I hated going to mine on Mon - it is always hot and stuffy in my antenatal clinic AND we have to wear masks, so I'm usually a hot and sweaty mess! But I think I cracked it - I bought a tiny hand-held fan (yes, I am that person now) which I brought with me + a massive bottle of ice-cold water, and a book and then sitting and waiting around wasn't as bad, and unbearable this time!

Gaily82 · 22/06/2022 16:35

Hi ladies, I just typed a long message here and my webpage decided to refresh for some random reason and it all disappeared! Argh ๐Ÿ˜ญIt's my fault for writing novels probably but still, it's so annoying! I hate technology sometimes! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Anyway, I hope you're all hanging in there! I can't believe it has been a week since I posted here, the days are just flying past as always. Soon we'll be meeting our babies, and some of us already have! The weather in my part of Scotland has been quite nice this week so I've been washing everything in sight and hanging it outside. I went through all the baby clothes and things I've bought, and found places to store them, which took up most of yesterday afternoon, but I feel that I achieved a lot because I had wanted to do that for a while! I also got the crib ready yesterday, put the sheet in, etc...it just feels mad that a baby will be sleeping in there in a matter of weeks or even days! I thought that it would feel more real by now, but I still have that surreal feeling at the moment! I haven't had any early signs of labour yet (I'm 37+5), I don't think I've ever even felt braxton hicks yet but I read that not everyone does...I did get a few twingy feelings quite low down in my bump the other day but it was only for a matter of seconds and it hasn't happened since.

I'm not sure if the baby is still head down or not, I hope so, but sometimes I see a limb sticking out quite far across the right of my bump although I suppose she could still stick out an arm or a leg if she's head down. I haven't felt that feeling yet that people describe of her engaging in the pelvis, but there's still time. I'll see the midwife again on Friday so I'll hopefully find out how things are looking then. This morning I noticed a tiny spot of what looks like dried blood on my pants, but there was nothing there when I wiped so I'm not sure what that was...it maybe happened overnight. I've never had bleeding or anything during the pregnancy and it was so small that hopefully it's nothing but I'll keep an eye.

I met my health visitor for the first time this morning and she seems nice, from first impressions. She came across as supportive and approachable which is a relief, and she also said that if she notices any problems she would be honest and tell us, but I'm hoping everything will be fine! Fingers crossed I won't look like too much of a clueless mum for the first wee while after I'm home with the baby, but I'm sure she'll understand that everyone has to start somewhere and we'll learn with experience ๐Ÿ™‚

@Capricorn8990 Huge congratulations on the birth of Alora, beautiful name! You sound totally smitten with her and I'm sure you're enjoying getting to know her ๐Ÿ™‚It sounds like it all happened pretty fast! I'm glad you're both alright!
@annie1994 I hope your c-section went or is going well today, and you must be so excited to meet your little one! Looking forward to hearing how it all went ๐Ÿ™‚

I'll post this now and start a new post incase I lose it again! ๐Ÿ˜”Hopefully I remembered everything I wrote from the first time, but I feel like I can never write things the same way the second time, oh well!

missv556 · 22/06/2022 16:54

So I'm sat in hospital right now being monitored. There was quite a lot of protein in my urine so midwife sent me to hospital. Got those straps on my belly checking baby's heart and movements. Had some blood drawn. I'm back again tomorrow for a growth scan as well. My kid hates me, thats the only conclusion I can come to. I have had to come to this hospital more times than I care to over this pregnancy. Sooooo ready for him to come out at this point. I'll be term on Sunday so he's free to leave from then.

Gaily82 · 22/06/2022 17:33

@annie1994 Thank you for your reply to my question about ready made formula! That makes total sense to take some with you just incase, for peace of mind, especially if things took a little while to get established the first time around. I hope things go well and thanks for sharing.
@SamanthaVimes Thank you also for your reply about breastfeeding, I appreciate it! That's a very good point that colostrum will already be there, even if I might not see it at the moment, and that the hormones will do their job to produce milk a few days after the birth. Yes they were saying on the breastfeeding workshop last week that the baby's stomach is the size of a cherry when they're born so a tiny amount of colostrum should be enough! My midwife had talked about trying to hand express some colostrum from 38 weeks, although I've read others say that it isn't necessary. As you said though, I'd maybe quite like to try it just for some reassurance, although I'll prepare myself that it will probably take practice and perseverance to get the hang of it. I've bought some of those little syringes from Amazon just so I have them. I'll watch a few You Tube videos first too! Thanks again x

@MollyRover I'm glad you have the option of your neighbour's help if you need it, that's good. I really hope your DH can be at the birth and all will be well. Yes I'll keep pushing the book issue with my DH as the room won't feel like the baby's own if so many of his books are there! I think we'll need to build an extension just to store his books! I'll persevere with getting rid of the first bookcase and take it from there ๐Ÿ™‚
@Lianna93 It's nice to know that I'm not the only one living with a book hoarder! Newspapers and magazines are also a bit of an issue but he's actually going through those and throwing some out at the moment so I suppose that's a little bit of progress! ๐Ÿ˜„ Thanks also for your reply re. my breastfeeding question, my midwife tried to describe how to hand express at my last appointment but I can't really remember what she said! I've read that massaging or warming up the breast first can help though. I think I'll buy the haakaa aswell, at least for collecting milk from the opposite breast later on, as it has really good reviews. It's probably a really silly question but with the excess milk would you just store it in a bottle in the fridge and then feed it to the baby from the bottle some other time? A lot of things I've read say not to feed a breastfed baby from a bottle incase it then discourages them from latching on, but surely you need to do a bit of both if there's too much milk to consume in one go so as to not waste it!? Hmm I probably sound as clueless as ever but I can't think of any other way it could be done!

@CaptainCarp @Lianna93 @KizboBaggins I feel that I'll be totally the same when I come home from hospital, or even when they hand me the baby in hospital for the first time...is this actually mine? I've always been very awkward with babies too, just with not having a very big family, and minimal/pretty much no experience with them...when people used to bring their babies into the office in the days before covid, I was always the one who would avoid holding them as I never really knew what to do or how to speak to them, I just felt so awkward! When it's our own though I'm sure we'll feel different...I hope! ๐Ÿ˜„

@annie1994 I'm not sure about contraception yet after the birth...I was on the mini pill for a while and don't think I had any issues although I wondered if I felt a bit more moody than normal when I was on it...nothing major though! It stopped my periods totally aswell which was great at the time. I came off it around 7-8 months before we conceived and I didn't have any periods during that time...it might be more to do with me starting to do more exercise and count calories though because I felt that I hadn't been that active during lockdown and wanted to lose a little bit of weight. I think I unintentionally lost a little too much weight at the time and it messed with my hormones so my periods never started again which concerned me a bit. That's why I was surprised when the pregnancy test was positive although I had been getting a few fertile signs after I started eating more calories again! I never actually had a period in between stopping the pill and conceiving so my due date is based on my scan measurements rather than the date of my last period. Anyway sorry for the waffly answer! I suppose we'll see how things go and as others have said, the baby will probably be a natural contraceptive for a while! DH would quite like another baby aswell but I'll need to see how I manage with one before thinking about another one!

@Fingerscrossedfor2021HK Oh I hope you are alright, that must've been a scare for you! I'm glad you went in to get checked, and I didn't realise they could give medication to stop the contractions, that's interesting. I hope you and your baby are doing ok, and that they stay inside for a little longer. At least you're in the best place for them to keep an eye on things x

@GrowBabyGrow Welcome ๐Ÿ™‚I don't think I've actually felt Braxton Hicks either and I'm 37+5...unless they've been really unnoticeable but maybe it's just one of those things that not everyone gets...I hope it doesn't mean my body is less prepared or something! My bump seems to feel a bit lower than it was though and just feels really full of baby, haha. Maybe a bit tighter than it was but I suppose that's to be expected with her growing.

@strawberrysummer19 I've had a few days when I've felt that the baby is more active than normal, a couple of occasions it has been really noticeable but then she has calmed down again. It made me a bit anxious at the time but she went back to normal so I'm hoping everything was ok! I think at this later stage the movements feel a bit different since she has less space now to move around in there...almost more squirmy movements and trying to press/poke out limbs, she probably wants to break free! As some others said we probably notice movements more at different times of day when we're less distracted, etc. It will feel strange not to feel movements anymore once the baby is born but at the same time will be nice not to have the anxiety about whether everything is ok or not.

@missv556 Hope you are doing ok, it must be tiring having had to go to the hospital so many times but it's good that they're monitoring you which will hopefully provide some reassurance. Not too long to go now, for any of us! It will be nice to feel normal again!

JJ1992 · 22/06/2022 17:47

@CaptainCarp @Mattieandmummy @SamanthaVimes intetesting to see what you all think! Sounds like when baby decides its time that will be it!
Ive been soley thinking about 36 week mark because thats when i finish work, only just dawining on me theres probably another 4 +weeks to go!! Im happy for baby to stay in a little while to let us finish redecorating the living room though ๐Ÿ˜‚

Im quite keen to collect collostrum just because ive had a lot of milk leakage throughout pregnancy so hopeful this will be fairly easy to do! Gonna keep doing the perineal massage because.. Anything that can help will do! I actually love dates and had eaten a lot in early pregnancy before I knew anything about their help in labour!

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 22/06/2022 18:03

Itโ€™s been hot here in Essex ๐Ÿฅต 2 more days at work for me.. canโ€™t come quick enough! 37+5 today the babyโ€™s head is fully engaged 0/5 at my appointment today Iโ€™ve been given permission to have sweeps from 38 weeks.. the one I had with my last baby worked so thinking about trying again with this one..

strawberrysummer19 · 22/06/2022 19:39

@missv556 hope all js ok, keep us updated

Is there a Facebook group I can join? Sure I saw one going around but haven't joined yet. Would be nice to now for us being so close to our due dates.

X

KizboBaggins · 22/06/2022 19:59

@CaptainCarp how far along were you when they did the sweep? Is it something they offer to everyone? I don't see midwife until a week on Monday and will be 37 weeks by then so I'm sure she'll give me more info but was wondering if they do them just any time after 37 or is it for a specific reason?

@Lianna93 12 days overdue sounds horrendous lol dyou think you'd get that far without accepting a sweep or induction? I reckon I'd break within 3 days haha

@JJ1992 I'm the same - totally focused on finishing work just before 37 weeks. Recently dawned on me I might have 3+ weeks to fill with stuff... I'm just gonna end up spending money and overeating lol

strawberrysummer19 · 22/06/2022 20:19

I'm Wondering the same if sweeps get offered for everyone?

I'm booked in for induction 39+1 so would I get one beforehand ?

X

Mattieandmummy · 22/06/2022 20:25

@Gaily82 be extremely careful of storing breast milk, best place is in the freezer for no longer than six months.

Here's a link to the nhs storage guidance: www.nhs.uk/conditions/baby/breastfeeding-and-bottle-feeding/breastfeeding/expressing-breast-milk/

Gaily82 · 22/06/2022 20:31

Thank you for the info @Mattieandmummy , that's really helpful ๐Ÿ™‚

ShellUK09 · 22/06/2022 20:36

Well I'm spending the night in hospital tonight ๐Ÿ™ at my routine 36 week midwife appointment my blood pressure was 150/100 and she sent me to the hospital to be checked out. Was in hospital all afternoon getting blood pressure checked every 15 minutes, my temperature was also up so also had tests for all sorts, cannula and drip fitted. Being hooked up to an electronic blood pressure monitor and a heart rate monitor for baby in a stuffy room for 6 hours with no windows and no food isn't the best way to bring blood pressure down! Blood pressure medication brought it down to reasonable levels eventually but still told I'd need to stay in overnight for observation. Could be longer if they still have concerns tomorrow. I thought my maternity leave was going too well! I'm sure the heat has brought this on and maybe not been drinking enough. They did a covid test to rule that out which was negative and have also given me antibiotics in case I have an infection. So had to get my partner to come and drop off an overnight bag for me. Have never wanted to be home as much as now! Just hope I can manage to sleep here tonight

CaptainCarp · 22/06/2022 20:47

@KizboBaggins @strawberrysummer19 I had my 1st sweep last week at 37+2 so today I was 38+2.
I've had extra monitoring in the hospitals maternity day unit because of my gestational diabetes. The consultant recommended the sweep at 38 but the midwife offered it at 37 as well.
Apparently you can have up to 3 sweeps.

@missv556 not far from you in Dudley & it was soo hot ๐Ÿฅต they asked me if I wanted a blanket when i was in for monitoring in the hospital.. Err no! ๐Ÿ˜‚

I've got 2 days left at work... Yeah I might be crazy ๐Ÿ˜‚ but at least my office has aircon so nice & cool for most of the day!

CaptainCarp · 22/06/2022 20:49

@ShellUK09 I hope everything gets sorted for you & your blood pressure comes down.

Lianna93 · 22/06/2022 21:59

@Gaily82 You said you're in Scotland? In the baby box there's a guide to hand expressing that's very useful :)
I was doing my Solihull course yesterday & it was talking about breast milk storage. Up to 5 days in the fridge or maximum 6 months in the freezer. It also talked about the benefits of bottle feeding your expressed milk too as it'll help others bond with baby too but they suggest not doing that until breast feeding is well established but everyones different. My plan is to breast & bottle feed :)

@KizboBaggins I'm not sure... I have ptsd & the thought of anyone putting their fingers in me triggers it. I've only ever gone for a smear test once & I sat on the table sobbing because of my ptsd ๐Ÿ˜ฉ Felt so bad for the poor nurse but she was great with me.
My midwife has agreed to put into my birth plan for things to be very 'hands off' to take care of my mental health. But I'm not naive... I know I may need to just 'suck it up' and do what's best for baby but I'm praying I go naturally & I feel like I might but if it gets to 12 days over I'll definitely consider my options.

@missv556 @ShellUK09 Hope you're both okay - keep us updated ๐Ÿฅฐ

@Lianna93 pretty much the only thing I told my midwife I wanted for definite in my birth plan was to avoid cervical checks/ any intrusive procedures where possible! I'm the same re smear, don't even like my OH putting his hands around there never mind other people!!

Hope all those in hospital being monitored etc are ok, it's all getting very real now!

George was born at 11.30 this morning by ELCS. He weight 8lb 2oz. He had a few breathing difficulties so had to be rushed to special baby care for a little bit but is doing much better now and on room air ๐Ÿ˜Œ
