Congrats @annie1994 ! Look at those lovely little squishy cheeks! ๐Ÿ˜

@NamelessBaby1
Reassuring I'm not the only one that feels this way.
My midwife assured me that if I did consent to cervical checks it would be very minimal, like once every 6 hours but if I don't want them then that's okay too because they can check how far along I am without the need to do a cervical.
Everytime I start talking about them I start stuttering & getting flustered and can feel the fear building up - I don't ever stutter except from when I'm triggering (absolutely hate using that word but it's accurate ๐Ÿ™„).

My midwife was saying by opting for a water birth, it will be very hands off & I'll essentially be left to labour by myself with them periodically checking baby's heartbeat - which is absolutely fine. And then she said once baby is on her way out, I'll be encouraged to catch her - which I absolutely love the idea of!

I have said though, if at any point things become dangerous for baby & they need to get her out asap then I'll of course cooperate. Baby comes before my mental health. I'm resilient at the end of the day & it's already been noted that I've to be closely monitored for my mental health so I don't doubt that I wouldn't get the right help or support afterwards.

@annie1994 just catching up on the thread, wow congratulations!!!๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’– What a relief your baby George is doing better now, that sounds quite stressful. Sending happy positive wishes โค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š

strawberrysummer19 · 22/06/2022 23:06

See I wasn't examined at all, left to get on
With it but I honestly believe because I wasn't monitored or examined at all, I went from being told I wasn't in labour, that I'd be going home to being rushed to labour ward and me panicking by this point- I was saying I have pressure in my bum I need to push for ages and that I was in pain and the midwives saying don't push don't push to ok now push it really messed my mind up and my debrief midwife I had thinks I had ptsd from a traumatic birth and this was one of the factors that contributed along with not feeling safe etc
Anyway I know everyone is different I know xx

strawberrysummer19 · 22/06/2022 23:11

I was told they can tell how far a lady is labouring - I kept telling them I couldn't cope with the pain (was giving cocodamol) anyway they clearly missed my signs !

This time because I want pain relief then I will make sure I'm examined and monitored more but then as I say mine was pretty quick

But I definitely would like pain relief
When I asked last time they said it was too late but I also felt not listened to but it was 10yrs ago so hoping things have changed x

Lianna93 · 22/06/2022 23:19

@strawberrysummer19 living with PTSD is awful - I absolutely feel for you & it's awful that you had such a negative experience. I hope this time goes a lot better for you & you get the birth you want ๐Ÿฅฐ

I asked my best friend to be one of my birthday partners today along with my DH as she's a paramedic & has helped women birth babies multiple times - I'd feel safer knowing she was there & I know that she'll advocate very strongly for me & will understand any medical terms being thrown around but she'll also be able to snap me into reality if things get too high risk.
It'll also allow DH to concentrate on me and be in the moment with me ๐Ÿฅฐ

missv556 · 23/06/2022 07:34

@annie1994 congratulations what a gorgeous little boy.

After 3 and a half hours in the hospital I "discharged" myself. They were checking for pre-eclampsia despite there being no symptoms of it apart from the protein. There's protein because I have an infection. Baby's heartbeat was fine, I could feel him moving around so I felt it was all very unnecessary so I went home because I'd had enough. I waited an hour and a half before they even put me on the ctg machine, was strapped to that for 40 minutes and it didn't work. When the midwife said I'd have to do it again I lost my shit honestly. And they took blood and said I could speak to a consultant when the results came back which would be at least another hour. So I said im back tomorrow, I'll come deal with it then. I was hot, uncomfortable and hungry so I just wanted to go home. The mum guilt kicked in a bit thinking if I'd done the right thing but little man has been his usual self, he's moving around as normal.

Another thing at the midwife yesterday, baby has changed position. He's still head down (3/5 engaged) but his back/chest have moved from the right side of my stomach to the left. When I saw him at my last growth scan 2 weeks ago, he didn't look like he had much room to manoeuvre in there but apparently he's found a way lol I thought he was settled in the one position cos he'd been that way for weeks. Just found it interesting what they can do in such little space. I think I felt him turn too. The one afternoon he stuck his bum right up and it felt like he rolled around. I was like what the hell ๐Ÿ˜‚ never gets old, I'll miss those movements though once he's born

Lianna93 · 23/06/2022 07:56

@missv556 Definitely don't feel guilty for doing what you felt was best - being in hospital sounds like it was distressing you, so of course you've done the best thing for yourself & baby. As you said, you could feel him move as normal & you knew why your urine sample had proteins in it. Always put you & baby first ๐Ÿฅฐ
