@strawberrysummer19 so glad everything is fine and that baby was just being a wee pest and giving you a scare! Here's to happy, healthy babies all around!

@MollyRover can't believe you've had a visit already, I was told I wouldn't have any until after birth! I wouldn't be organised at all of one appeared yet lol.

@Lianna93 please let me know what you get in the box, I know they have the leaflet but I wonder if it changes slightly and I'll probably get mine a couple of weeks after you so it would be good to know what to expect!

annie1994 · 24/05/2022 12:59

Anyone ever had a baby who was transverse?

Iโ€™m 35 weeks tomorrow and midwife thinks baby is somewhere between transverse and breech still. Got another scan to check for sure in couple weeks. But she said if he is transverse Iโ€™d have to be admitted to the hospital from 37 weeks as thereโ€™s a risk of cord prolapse so theyโ€™ll want to make sure my waters donโ€™t break outside the hospitalโ€ฆ. I wouldnโ€™t be having my elective section till 39 weeks. So this would mean so much time away from my toddler ๐Ÿ˜ญ I canโ€™t go over 2 weeks without seeing him!!!

Really hope at the scan baby is head or even bum down ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผ

MollyRover · 24/05/2022 13:11

@NamelessBaby1 I'm not in the UK, it's a different system here. We have a maternity nurse coming in for 5 days after the birth hence why they come earlier to see if the bed needs to be raised, make sure we've ordered the baby box from the health insurance and other things like that.

strawberrysummer19 · 24/05/2022 13:12

@annie1994 omg is this really what would happen? I would absolutely hate that and like you say being away from your other children before the actual labour

I have my 34 week check in 3 weeks and my last check baby was head down but at my growth scan she was breech so still moving around!

X

strawberrysummer19 · 24/05/2022 13:18

@annie1994 also would you mind me asking why you are having an elective c at 39?

I'm under a consultant who said it's likely I wouldn't go full time and would look at 39wks and I'm seriously considering a c section but I'm still not 100%

At one point should we be talking/thinking about this? Who do I talk to midwife or consultant?

Haven't spoken to my consultant since 24 wks and I'm 31 wks now

I do have a growth scan at 32 wks but at my 28 wks growth scan I didn't get a call

Also my midwife seems away with the fairies
Very scary and each appointment I have with her
(Forgets she's done my blood pressure and asks me if I've remembered the readings, faffs around and can't find anything, says things like not referring to previous conversations we've had / repeats herself that I have to correct her on, she's lovely but as I say she so scatty which doesn't fill me with confidence!' Wrote under active instead of overactive on my notes
The list is endless

annie1994 · 24/05/2022 13:28

@strawberrysummer19 thatโ€™s what my midwife said would happen if baby is still transverse late in the pregnancy! But surely if Iโ€™m having an elective section canโ€™t they just bring that forward to 37 weeks so Iโ€™m not hogging an antenatal bed for weeks and I can get back sooner to my toddler ๐Ÿค” letโ€™s just hope baby gets Hess or booty down by then!!

I had a pretty traumatic first birth with my son where I lost a lot of blood and my son had cord wrapped around his neck and had to be resuscitated so I mentioned a c section to the obstetrician around 29 weeks and he said Iโ€™d be allowed one because of that. Now obviously with babies position itโ€™s looking likely Iโ€™d have to have one anyway!

If youโ€™re considering one, I would just mention it to your midwife or obstetrician when you next see them! I believe they donโ€™t usually book elective c sections in till more like 36 weeks so you still have time. I know exactly what you mean, some midwives/ nurses are so lovely but very scatty!! Maybe ask if you could speak to an obstetrician after next scan or something? X

strawberrysummer19 · 24/05/2022 13:34

@annie1994 thanks for sharing

I'm in two minds. I feel I had a traumatic experience with my first. I had a natural and no pain relief because they kept saying I wasn't in labour
When they checked me I was 8cm and too far gone for anything
I then pushed for 1hr 52 mins and it was so scary as I almost had intervention but then when she was born as manager to push her out, just as they were setting up forceps and episiotomy. my placenta got stuck and then had 2 hrs of contractions after baby was born with various midwives and eventually a DR putting their hand up all trying to get it out
Absolutely horrendous
I lost so much blood and was quite poorly
I then was taken to theatre 2 hrs later
Had 2nd degree tear because of it and internal tears which didn't heal until 4 months later
So I hate the thought of this happening again
I know it may not
I feel I have birth trauma
I'll request a call after my next growth scan
So for me if she's breech it makes the decision easier but then the thought of being admitted 36 wks that's tough isn't it
Like you say wasting a bed and poor bubs at home x

CaptainCarp · 24/05/2022 13:51

@strawberrysummer19 so glad baby has decided to not have another lazy day & you've felt her today!
Also hope you GTT is OK its a pain in the backside having to test & watching what you eat ๐Ÿ˜‚

@ChinChilly sorry to hear you've felt so ill. Hopefully you are over the worst now & keep feeling better.
Make sure you are fully rested & up for work before going back - they definitely shouldn't be pressuring you especially with the added risk of being pregnant!

5 weeks to go for me today ๐Ÿ˜ฌ... so not ready! ๐Ÿ˜‚
Definitely got to start packing a hospital bag. Brought some maternity pads & a pair of pajama bottoms the other day for in hospital.
Growth scan tomorrow though so can see if baby has grown again!

Lianna93 · 24/05/2022 14:16

@NamelessBaby1 I will do! I'm honestly so excited for it to come - feels like Christmas! ๐Ÿ˜‚

@strawberrysummer19 I was having a panic attack yesterday because I hadn't washed anything & I have literally nothing packed - felt so much better after organising everything into sizes & feeling even better now I've started washing all the newborn & 0-3 clothes ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ˜‚

I still need to get some bits & bobs for my hospital bag - keep trying to psych myself up to buy disposable underwear but everytime I see them I chicken out ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Nothing phases DH though so he said he'll pick them up! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚

@strawberrysummer19 thats weird you say that as I was exactly the same with they didnโ€™t think I was in labour till I was 8cm and then I wasnโ€™t allowed any strong pain relief!! But I didnโ€™t have to go to theatre or anything for tears, sounds very traumatic. Iโ€™m so sorry you went through that. I am under the Perinatal Mental Health Team and they organised therapy for me to help with processing my first birth and getting ready for the next one. Would you maybe find that helpful? My normal midwife referred me to them.

I remember saying at my 29 week appointment to the obstetrician that I would prefer baby was breech so the option of c section/ vaginal was kinda taken away from me!! But I donโ€™t want him to be transverse so maybe Iโ€™ve shot myself in the foot there!!

NamelessBaby1 · 24/05/2022 15:10

@MollyRover ah apologies, I keep forgetting there are people here from all over! That sounds good getting that support, in slightly dreading being left with a whole other human to look after, although thankfully will have my mum on hand!

@NamelessBaby1 you will be absolutely fine, we all are in the end!! The support is fantastic here and not what I would have to look forward to in my home country. Feel much more confident now that it's my second time round and I know what to expect a bit more. All I need to do is make sure that I have all my Netflix downloads in a row and my grocery shopping slot booked for when I get home. So much simpler this time ๐Ÿ˜‚.

ChinChilly · 24/05/2022 16:33

@strawberrysummer19 @ShellUK09 @CaptainCarp I know, the pushing me to go back tomorrow annoyed me abit, made me feel like taking the rest of the week off lol. I mean i know why we've got no staff but that's not my problem and they had better get used to me not being there especially seen as they still haven't sorted my cover out.

I can't believe we're all so close now! Exciting but scary! I've got zilch ready for my hospital bag and haven't even started washing baby clothes! Also baby has nowhere so sleep yet ๐Ÿคฃ omg what am I playing at!

@strawberrysummer19 my midwife is away with the fairies aswell! She's nice enough but she doesn't fill me with confidence.

@NamelessBaby1 I feel a pang of sheer terror every now and again about looking after a baby but I think your instincts will kick in aswell.. plus there is so much support on here!

@ChinChilly don't stress, internet shopping is your friend, for everything else there's Google (or Mumsnet DaffodilWink)

ShellUK09 · 24/05/2022 17:40

@ChinChilly I'd be tempted to take the week off as well! Or at least tomorrow. My workplace had interviews for my replacement today (strange feeling!) but they won't start until a week after I leave. I've prepared a handover document so I've done what I can! I have only washed the baby clothes for the hospital bag so far. You can do a lot at once though as the clothes are so small!
@MollyRover agreed, I'm never off the internet looking for things I need to buy online or looking things up! Bought an Ergobaby embrace carrier and just been watching online videos about how to use it, as usual the instructions are minimal in the box but videos on YouTube were much more helpful.

MollyRover · 24/05/2022 19:56

@ShellUK09 that must be a really odd feeling. My "replacement" started in April (not taking over all of my tasks, just the admin stuff) and I was interviewing candidates myself so I feel like I had some control over the process. I did think she had her head screwed on a bit better than she seems to now but we'll see how it goes. Not my problem after the 3rd of June ๐Ÿ˜‰.

Stroller has just arrived, had a second hand one for DC1 so this thing seriously feels like a Jaguar right now!!

ChinChilly · 24/05/2022 20:12

@MollyRover I think I may get internet shopping tomorrow seen as I'm stuck indoors anyway! Lovely news on the pushchairs i can't wait to get ours our out of the box, it's been in the box for months!

@ShellUK09 I'm definitely taking tomorrow off too, the rest of the week is really tempting! I might try get baby bits washed this weekend if the weather is good. I'm pretty sure at this point my work aren't replacing me at all ๐Ÿ™„ oh well not my problem soon

CaptainCarp · 24/05/2022 20:40

@ChinChilly sounds like a nightmare that they haven't got a replacement for you yet they already have no staff!

I would definitely be taking tomorrow off at least & using it to chill & browse the Internet for baby things!

I have washed some newborn items & some 0-3. It made me feel more relaxed knowing that baby would at least have some clothes to wear.

Where do you get disposable pants from? I bouhht some pads at the weekend & they say to use with disposable pants but there was none in the shop?

strawberrysummer19 · 24/05/2022 20:42

I feel like we need a support group for when babies here ! Maybe a face book one or something.

I'm getting little bits as I go along so feeling more prepared

But we have time still!! Xx

Mattieandmummy · 24/05/2022 20:48

@annie1994 my first was transverse and I was booked for a C-section but she did turn by herself although it was quite late on. There's definitely still time for yours to turn if she/he is going to. You can book a c section and change your mind later if you want to.

This one is either breech or transverse every time anyone checks. ๐Ÿ™„. My consultant booked my c section for 39 weeks at my 32 week appointment. I'm not sure if that's normal or not, I'm high risk for another shoulder distocia birth so that's probably got something to do with it.

Lianna93 · 24/05/2022 21:11

@CaptainCarp You can get them from any supermarket - you're basically looking for incontinence briefs/Tena lady brief type things. Aldi have their own brand which are much cheaper than a pack of Tena ladys. ยฃ3.89 for 9 whereas Tena Lady's you're looking at upwards of ยฃ7 for 8 pairs.

@ChinChilly have a lovely day relaxing and browsing the web tomorrow ๐Ÿ™‚ Recently realised it is worth joining Boots parenting club for some extra advantage points when you buy baby products. You will feel better once you have got some of the clothes washed. No work won't be your problem soon, it will feel great to leave them to it.

@strawberrysummer19 yes could do with a support group, I have so much to learn!

CaptainCarp · 24/05/2022 21:24

@Lianna93 thank you! I saw those & assumed I was looking for something different! ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ Will definitely be looking at own brand types rather than Tena.

@strawberrysummer19 I would be up for a support group either carry on here or on Facebook.

I feel like I know nothing about looking after a baby ๐Ÿ˜‚

missv556 · 25/05/2022 07:07

@CaptainCarp I ordered some disposable underwear with my weekly shop last week. Tesco pack of 5 for ยฃ1.85. Even if they end up being no good, I haven't spent a huge amount on them

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 25/05/2022 07:37

Iโ€™ve got the same @missv556 but Iโ€™m not sure I can bring myself to wear them - they look like theyโ€™re made of cardboard ๐Ÿ˜‚

Iโ€™ve bought a pack of cheapie cotton pants 2 sizes bigger than me from primark too which should hopefully help if worn underneath the disposable ones!
