@petitlapin1 sounds awful! You might have to get over your needle phobia tho! Midwife will prob have more time for you hopefully. They'll not be able to make clinical decisions tho, your consultant will have the final word...sometimes you just need to put your foot down and don't take their abruptness

@Belle2210 it's so odd isn't it feeling all these rolls down below and nothing on top! It's reassurance thought 🥰

Butterflytulip · 28/04/2022 16:26

Snap @Belle2210 I'm back in next week for the 20 weeks scan again (I'll be 22 weeks) as they couldn't see the heart completely on scan due to baby position.

Yeah I agree re the BMI I think it's just cause for concern for emergency c section so they have to note it. Wouldn't worry.
I'm starting the yoga after my next scan! I kept talking about swimming and gentle weights but I'm too lazy !!!

Sweetbabydust1989 · 28/04/2022 17:22

How is everyone so anxiety is rather better now I have taken my mind of things by focusing on the positives 12 days until 20 week scan I will be 21 weeks 1 day anyone else got theirs around the 10th may fancy keeping me company while we wait xx

EverydayIsPJday · 28/04/2022 17:36

Hey @Sweetbabydust1989 my scan is also on the 10th. I will be 20+4 when we have it 😊 generally feeling OK although I don't think baby's kicks are as strong as it remember at this stage with my boys, although it might be because I'm carrying more weight on my belly this time 🤦 Feels like I've been waiting forever for this scan so seeing you say it's 12 days has made me feel alot better 😊 do you know what you are having? Or want to know? I'm losing track of everyone's journeys on here!

Sweetbabydust1989 · 28/04/2022 17:55

@EverydayIsPJday hello lovely.. oh I no what you mean I have an anterior placenta so won't feel much until a little later had the same with my second son and an awful back to back labour.. yes it's not long now wish it was sooner I have had a few private scans in between well according to the private place they have confirmed twice once at 16 weeks 5 days and again at 18 weeks 1 that baby is a girl i am still in denial as I have 2 boys already so honestly won't believe anything until I see baby 😂 just very nervous for this scan don't no why xx

EverydayIsPJday · 28/04/2022 18:10

Aww that's lovely @Sweetbabydust1989 I also have two boys and although haven't had a private scan had two nub specialists look at my 12 week scan and both said girl! Not that I believe it either 🤦 I had back to back labour with my first which failed at the final hurdle (Ds heart rate kept dropping) and I ended up with an emcs, it was quite an experience, so it's amazing you got through it 😬 Fingers crossed things go smoothly for you this time. I know what you mean about being apprehensive about the scan, I can't explain it either but I feel more anxious this time than my previous pregnancies somehow 🤷

think I've been in a blur the past few weeks, does anyone else feel like that? although keeping up with the thread (and general life!) I'm failing to absorb anything now, I'm just bumbling along from one day to another. So I'm really sorry if I end up asking people questions that have been asked before, I think my brain has been well and truly scrambled 🤯

Em85kk · 28/04/2022 18:39

@petitlapin1 aww thanks, little monkey has kept me worried all day but just been able to feel a little kick. I told one of my trainees this morning who I hadn’t seen in 3 weeks, as soon as I said it I panicked. She knew though, because honestly I can’t hide it anymore!

madeleine85 · 28/04/2022 19:18

@petitlapin1 so sorry you had to go through that, that consultant sounds awful! Hopefully the injections aren't too bad, or you can find an alternative to taking them that works better for you.

I had a 22 week scan today with my doctor, I was expecting just a doppler check, but as I am not feeling any movement she wanted to look. He was absolutely fine, kicking away, doing huge movements, I just can't feel any of it. She helpfully suggested that I should feel 10 kicks every 2 hours, which she then retracted when I said that I can go full days right now with nothing. Either way, he seems healthy, and moving a lot, and the heartbeat was strong and it was nice to get an unanticipated viewing. Also now I am down to one check every month, for the first time since 6 weeks (so far i've been in every 2 weeks), which I think will be a relief. She did say that if I felt contractions etc to go straight to triage, but I remember the last time I was utterly hopeless at feeling contractions, telling them from braxton hicks, or feeling anything in general. Must have abs of steel or something :).

Ginny216 · 28/04/2022 19:40

I haven't posted on this thread in ages but I had my 20 week scan today (had been really anxious about it, more so than with my first!) and the sonograpaher said all looked normal. I noticed on the screen all the measurements were about a week behind where I should be so naturally that has made me worry lol. I asked her and she said she was looking abit small but she wasn't concerned. My first baby wasn't small at all so wondering why this could be, has anyone else had this? Also another anterior placenta over here and having a girl! Lovely to hear everyone's scans have been going well! :)

madeleine85 · 28/04/2022 19:59

@Ginny216 last time 3 years ago they told me my percentiles each scan without me asking, but this time nothing! It feels like they are deliberately not disclosing it. I was between 25-33% last time. This time all I got at 20 weeks was "he is a good size, not too big, not too small". Maybe less knowledge is good :). Glad you had a great san though, congratulations!!

annlee3817 · 28/04/2022 20:29

Congrats @Ginny216 with those kind of things I always think that if they don't refer you or book a follow up scan then hopefully it should mean there is nothing to worry about.

There does seem to be a lot of us with anterior

@madeleine85 did the doc say which way the baby is facing? Wondered if inwards and that's why you're not feeling it, always curious about positioning

Butterflytulip · 28/04/2022 20:30

Hi @Ginny216 yes I had my 20 week scan and baby was measuring 18w 6d! So just under a week.
My last baby was spot on 20 weeks at the 20 week scan.
I googled a lot when I came home.
I'm back in next week for another scan but only because the sonographer couldn't see the heart properly due to baby position. She said all measurements were similar so no concern. Did they comment after your scan?
I have an anterior placenta too 👍

madeleine85 · 28/04/2022 20:44

@annlee3817 I think that he is facing out towards my belly, as in the scans, the placenta is at the top (against my stomach), then his legs, then the back under it so he must be lying sideways right now facing out. The placenta looks pretty big and like it really does cover most of what the scan is picking up/the baby's length. Maybe when he grows i'll start feeling more. If I do feel anything it is very low or to the sides, but it is random/rare.

Ginny216 · 28/04/2022 21:21

Thanks everyone for your reassurance 😊 maybe she's just going to be on the small side, or perhaps she will catch up. I just seem to worry about everything lately!

@Butterflytulip I've been googling too lol! She said all looked normal as all the measurements were similar, she did check the abdominal circumference a few times because that one was around a week and a half behind but then said it was down to her machine and all was fine! I'm probably just being paranoid, I'm sure the sonographer knows more than I do and would have said it there was a concern - same for you! ☺️

Butterflytulip · 28/04/2022 21:23

@madeleine85 how far along are you?
I'm the same it's the placenta just under stomach and have only just started feeling movement, I'm 21 weeks now. It feels more like bubbles rather than actual kicks.

@Ginny216 if they had any concerns you would be going back for re-scan and it would be in your notes. I'm sure all is grand, maybe we are having little girls ?!

madeleine85 · 28/04/2022 21:40

@Butterflytulip that sounds similar. I am 22+2 and feel the pops and pressure like I would expect to have felt a few months ago. But it is sporradic. I'm glad I got a chance to see him moving on the screen today, as that is always reassuring. Glad you are getting some movement too!

Celyn22 · 28/04/2022 21:47

@Ginny216 hey lovely, maybe your baba is a bit smaller than you may expect because the conception date could be a little off? My dating from the scan would mean I got pregnant on the second day of my last period! The midwife said that 'it just works like that' with dating although biologically it’s not possible.

I'm glad everyone's scans have come back with good results recently. I'm happy for you all! Sending lots of love and crisps to you all xx

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 28/04/2022 22:27

Ladies it sounds reassuring to read that movement is not being felt until after 20 weeks. I have felt my little lady moving, but it's so sporadic that I've wondered if it's in my mind. I'm 19+2 now and have my scan on Tuesday.

After finally feeling well enough to leave the house without an escort, I took myself down uk Tescos. I bought a couple of things for the baby- an outfit and a couple of dummies. I also bought my 4 year old DD a dress she has had her on eye on. I'm in her good books now 🤣

MummyToBe2022 · 29/04/2022 06:43

Morning all, so hard to keep up on the thread. I hope all scans have gone well.

I have one lady at work who constantly asks me how baby is doing and touches my bump, it drives me mad also was asked if I was sure it wasn't twins yesterday 😩 then to be told I've put weight on. I try to laugh it off but it is starting to really annoy me.

On a positive though, DH felt baby move for the first time last night. Baby was having a right good kick so he reckons it will be a footballer like our DS and DD ☺️

Peauela · 29/04/2022 07:14

@Sweetbabydust1989 yes! I have a docs app at the hospital on the 10th and scan on the 13th :)

I've had a bit of a scare the past few days, for over a week I've been struggling with sharp, stabbing pain in my lower tummy on the left side. I rang the ER twice last week, first time I was told round ligament pain and if there's no bleeding I shouldn't be concerned and to take paracetamol and if it doesn't help to call again. Two days later, on Friday, the pain is still there on paracetamol so I call them and tell them. They were not interested and the person who answered the phone literally sighed as I finished explaining it to her and sent me to GP to get a physio referral.

I though ok, I'm gonna wait over the weekend, rest and see how things go. On Monday pain was still there but worse, on Tuesday I went to work but I couldn't function normally because of the pain, I couldn't walk and nearly cried with every step. The pain was also there at night which I thought was strange for round ligament pain. So on Tuesday I drove to the hospital and after waiting 4 hours I was checked by a doctor, she did a urine test, a scan and baby is thankfully all good, she also examined the tummy and cervix and said all seems good so it seriously must be round ligament pain!!!!!! It's a bitch! I left the hospital crying because I felt helpless, I couldn't walk. I cried all evening and couldn't sleep at night because it was so strong. The following day I didn't go to work, I went to my GP and got a sick cert for a week and also stronger painkillers. I'm going back to work today though because I feel better, the pain is still there but nowhere close to how it felt at it's worst.....

Seriously I never expected round ligament pain could be so strong and could last so long, pretty much all day 😅

Celyn22 · 29/04/2022 10:05

@MummyToBe2022 I’m sorry I hear that you are being bugged at work. It may be time to set some boundaries! You could do it in a playful but firm way.... touching the tummy of anyone who thinks they can touch you (maybe before they touch yours!) and tell them they’ve put on weight! ;) or you could try telling them politely how it makes you feel and that you’d rather they didn’t. However you don’t need to justify any reasons, simply “please don’t touch me/my belly” is enough. We transfer energy through touch so it’s important to hold our own energy fields, as we are so open during pregnancy, and we have a responsibility to protect our little ones. Good luck!! Let us know how it goes XX

@Peauela I am so sorry to hear of your troubling days! I was explaining my experience of round ligament pain to my partner and it was just making him laugh (sympathetically)... “it hurts when I walk with my legs too far apart, when I walk to fast, when my step is too heavy, when I get up too fast, when I’m standing too long, when I walk too far...” it is quite a cosmic joke but I suppose it’s all tolerance training for labour! It feels like I have a heavy ball inside me suspended with tiny strings and if there is any tension on those strings in one direction then it hurts. Har har har!

Apparently RLP is worse when dehydrated so I am trying to keep drinking and take these signs as beacons for my attention that my body needs something - hydration or stretching!

I was trying to tell friends and family our news in person up until yesterday when I gave in and started having long catch ups over the phone with people I won’t see for a while. It has brought renewed excitement to the journey and has felt really special to let others in. I am quite private about most things, but an addition to the family is hard to keep a secret for long!

Sending you all love and hugs from sunny Wales xx

Carebear99 · 29/04/2022 10:42

Is anyone else shattered? I'm 21 weeks today and feel tired all the time. I'm trying to drink more to see if that helps but not really helping.

annlee3817 · 29/04/2022 12:02

@Peauela sorry you had a scare, pleased to hear all ok apart from it being Round ligament pain, not fun!

@MummyToBe2022 I agree, start putting boundaries in place now if you can, I got lots of the "is it twins" comments last time, so know how annoying it is.

@Celyn22 not sure about you, but feels very real for me now that more people know :)

@Carebear99 tiredness wise I've been ok this week, but think I'm just used to feeling tired due to bad sleep at the moment, keep getting up for wees

Carebear99 · 29/04/2022 12:19

For me the 20 week scan was a turning point and I've told everyone at work and I even bought a few baby clothes which were on sale in asda. I said I wasn't going to buy anything until 30 weeks but only bought a few cheap clothes. I love looking at baby clothes!

Redapple21 · 29/04/2022 15:10

Had 20 week scan today, all was well with baby which was such a relief, didn't find out the sex - decided to have a surprise! My placenta is at the back which I did think because I have felt quite a lot of movement the last couple of weeks, however it is close to the cervix so I have to go back tor a scan at 32 weeks to see if it's moved (she said it usually does) - if not it could be a planned c section, which I'm actually fine about. Just so glad the baby is well. I think someone else on here said the same about the placenta but I can't quite remember who now sorry! The thread moves pretty fast! I love keeping up with how everyone is doing. Happy weekend ladies x
