Hi! We're doing alright here - DS is now obsessed with cars, dogs and our house keys, and still refuses to call DH anything other than "mummy." 😂 He also likes to randomly go "uh oh" and enjoys shaking his finger at me and telling me "no" (genuinely don't know where that has come from).

We have touch wood managed to mostly avoid the nursery bugs so far but we have had another spell of him waking up in the middle of the night with a fever which was been stressful.

JMill13 · 27/10/2023 23:27

@GinnyBee

Ah sorry to hear! The start of winter bug season has hit us all hard this past couple of weeks too. Little girly took a viral throat & ear infection, sudden (like completely out of the blue) spike in her temperature on Saturday ended up with us in A&E with her after she had a febrile convulsion though at the time we had absolutely no idea what was happening.

Other than that we’re all good though. Little miss loves a chat and I’m blown away by her communication/words and sentences already. Even the nurses/doctors at the hospital commented on it. She’s a cheeky wee imp but she’s cute about it so gets away with far more than her big brother used to 😂

JMill13 · 27/10/2023 23:31

@YfenniChristie hahah love that 😂 they’re so funny with their own little personalities now. We get a lot of finger pointing “no” as well all because we jokingly told her to do it to her Granda one day and she decided that it was for everyone

Bubbasmama2017 · 28/10/2023 19:59

That must have been so scary! Hope she's ok now
We have some words but also a lot of frustration and clingyness. Not sure if that's a phase! She'll play alone sometimes though so I get a break every so often to sort stuff out in the house, not to my old standards though lol

JMill13 · 28/10/2023 21:27

@Bubbasmama2017 so bloody scary but she’s grand now other than a cough/runny nose thank god.

the house is the hardest bit to keep on top off now isn’t it. I’ve come to just make do with laundry being washed/dried and never put away, kitchen being clean & tidy and toilets being clean. Everything else is a mess and I’m a mess most days 😂 one day it’ll be back to normal.

YfenniChristie · 29/10/2023 16:25

So I take back part of my last post. We've spent our Sunday at the pharmacy, on to 111 and lastly at the out of hours GP to be told DS has hand, foot and mouth. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Now having to scramble and sort out emergency childcare.

Bubbasmama2017 · 14/12/2023 13:46

How is everyone doing? Nearly Christmas number 2 with our babies(toddlers!) Sleep has not been my friend recently, I've got a low sleep needs toddler and need to be very attentive when she wakes in the night otherwise we have a huge battle to resettle

GinnyBee · 14/12/2023 22:25

We have had an absolutely shocking week sleep wise. All autumn has been inconsistent with teething and the thousand viruses he’s had, but now we have had four absolutely awful nights with long split nights or lots of crying and upset. Almost like really bad teething but he’s just recently got 3/4 canines that didn’t cause a lot of trouble so I don’t really believe the last one would be this bad. But then the next set is supposed to be second molars and those aren’t usually coming in until closer to 2yo so fuck knows what is going on! 🤷🏼‍♀️😩🫠🫠

Outside of obvious issues he sleeps really well, but likes to be up bright and early! 6am is a lie in these days 😂

Bubbasmama2017 · 15/12/2023 11:01

I feel your pain @GinnyBee ! The only way we have been able to tackle her split nights is to bring her into bed with us when she wakes otherwise we have a battle for hours.
My DD1 slept well from age 2 so I'm hoping we can ride this out and sleep will happen in the summer

YfenniChristie · 15/12/2023 21:10

We've had an awful run of sleep for the last month. DS has been full of cold (and now teething - canines coming through), and has been having coughing fits at night which have been waking him up. It's then been taking up to 2hrs to settle and put him back down again. I'm exhausted.

That said, in the last week, DH has given DS an old Iggle Piggle toy and he's obsessed with it. He takes it to bed with him, and it seems to be helping him settle back to sleep without me or DH having to go to him.

Has anyone had any success with Father Christmas this year? Much like last year, DS is having none of it 😂

Bubbasmama2017 · 16/12/2023 05:04

@YfenniChristie that sounds like an improvement!
We haven't seen father Christmas yet but I've got a feeling she'll stare him out and wonder what is going on 😂

Luckygreenduck · 16/12/2023 20:11

Anyone thinking of number two? Some days I am so broody and know he would love a little buddy for life but also life finally seems to be getting easier. Not sure if I am ready to go back to the start haha.

Bubbasmama2017 · 17/12/2023 08:00

@Luckygreenduck this is my 2nd and we're definitely done at 2 kids. I know what you mean, even with tough sleep I feel like things are calming down a bit at this age. We had 4 years between kids and I am looking forward to when dd2 is out of the tantrum stage and more like my older one but also trying to cherish this time when she's little

YfenniChristie · 17/12/2023 11:40

@Luckygreenduck We're probably going to start trying for number 2 when DS is 2, 2.5. We've always said we'd have at least 2 - I have said I'd be tempted to try for a 3rd if we had another boy, as both of us would quite a girl.

MrsMcH2022 · 17/12/2023 13:32

@Luckygreenduck we’re expecting no.2 at the beginning of March, slightly nervous about the 22 month age gap! Anyone else expecting again?

EastMidsGem · 18/12/2023 07:40

@MrsMcH2022 yes we're expecting no.2 at the end of March (2nd April but will be week before as c-section)!

Anyone else's little one really not saying anything except one or two words? Feel like everyone else is much further ahead.

Ours does sleep really really well generally apart from stirring a couple of times a night this past week as one of his last 4 teeth have started to come through according to the dentist

Luckygreenduck · 21/12/2023 12:44

@EastMidsGem my boy was only saying a couple of words as I was getting a little concerned, but in the last week or two has really come along so I think it can happen in bursts.

Bubbasmama2017 · 27/12/2023 07:00

Is anyone thinking about moving little one into a bed yet?

aNewYorkerInLondon · 28/12/2023 11:30

Happy happy, merry merry! 🎄

We had a lovely holiday, I think mostly because it was just us three 😆

We’re in the market for a learning / helper tower and I really like some on this website: https://learningtowers.co.uk/collections/shop-learning-towers

However, it feels a bit opaque about the origins of the towers and also the location of the business. When I’ve emailed them questions, their replies are always at 11pm-midnight, which leads me to believe they’re in Asia but trying to look like they’re in the UK.

Thoughts??

aNewYorkerInLondon · 28/12/2023 12:56

@Bubbasmama2017 Not yet, but starting to think about how to increase the childproofing in his room for when that time comes. 😵‍💫

Bubbasmama2017 · 28/12/2023 15:04

@aNewYorkerInLondon I'm interested in one of those as well for her birthday next year. I've seen a few on Etsy I might try and get second hand.

Kittycaz · 05/02/2024 10:20

Hey ladies sorry I haven't been on the thread much just been so hectic. Look at our toddlers approaching the terrible twos! I feel like we've been in it for the last couple of months though. Leo is quiet at play groups and around other children. At home he is a menace his new favourite game is to dismantle the sofa repeatedly. He starts nursery in a few months. I've not gone back to work yet as I was lucky to have a decent amount of savings before having Leo. So he will have to start playing with other children more. I am struggling though he goes to 3 play groups a week and still runs away from other children. Allthough the children love him he gets followed around be mainly girls who think it's a game to chase him 😂

Leo's in a bed. We got the Rio tutti Bambino cot that turns into a toddler bed that lasts until he's 6. He's not has sides taken down yet though. He sleeps in a sleeping bag and has a toddler pillow planning on switching to duvets October time. Still no words here. He mumbles allot but no mama yet. How's everyone's littles doing. X

@Kittycaz so glad to hear someone else with no words yet and not in nursery! I decided to be a stay at home Mum before we had him so decided not to send him to nursery. I take him to soft play and he does follow other children around but still no words. Lots of babbling like you say. I think they all do it in their own time.

We're also planning to put him in a bed with no sides later this year. He sleeps in a sleep bag too, not even a pillow so it will be an interesting transition! I'm due baby no.2 in about 7 weeks so struggling to keep up with him now and no idea how he'll react to having a baby sister

RainsbowandBunnies · 05/02/2024 11:39

Hey I am one of the originals with baby Emorie ❤️ can't believe he will be 2 in April 😭
How is everyone doing?
She is talking when she wants to but mostly singular words mummy, coat, shoes, juice, bath.
She has a toddler bed but will only sleep in it in the day and however long she fancies at night 🙈 whenever she's asleep at home I've been putting her in bed so she gets familiar with it so hopefully she will stay in her bed on a night now x

Kittycaz · 05/02/2024 14:23

I love his little babbles they do say the later ones sometimes just come out with full sentences. He's always focused on being as mobile as possible never much on social skills. Hides behind me allot and is very clingy but I don't mind. We're starting group number 4 next week in hopes that he might click with another toddler he's only child in both our families. Congrats @EastMidsGem do you know what baby number 2 is gonna be?

Aww Emorie is a beautiful name, Leo's opposite sleeps well in his bed at night but not so much during day he's down to one nap which he has in either pram or cuddled with me. X
