@H0peing ah I see yeah that makes sense I hope it goes well. I've heard people can go into labour within 2 hours if your cervix is low. X

@H0peing let us know how it goes! I've asked not to have any sweeps but may change my mind if I go over due lol

H0peing · 29/04/2022 14:54

Just had a failed attempt at a sweep! The Midwife said that my cervix was too high! DH was with me and we're both disappointed! I've been searching for positive outcome stories online after a failed sweep with high cervix and so far have only found one lady who went into labour naturally the next day after this but I'm hoping something similar will happen to me! Xx

Bubbasmama2017 · 29/04/2022 16:00

@H0peing sorry to hear that :-( perhaps baby will still come tonight or tomorrow

Kittycaz · 29/04/2022 17:55

Oh bless you @H0peing it may have still done something though as it agitated your cervix still. Are u effaced at all?

I'm back to continually cramping for the last 6 hours. Just had a bath and got in clean pj's to see if I can relax and hopefully something will happen. I've had 5 bowel movements today (sorry for tmi) but apparently that could be a sign that bodies clearing itself out. 🤔

So many babies arriving now - congratulations to everyone so far! Also good luck to those where their arrivals could be anytime this weekend!

I’ve had a mixed day, midwife appointment this morning said I may have a UTI, so may need antibiotics. Then I had another growth scan this afternoon as my scan at 36 weeks showed growth had slowed, but the scan was all good and baby seems happy and growing well.

Then I had a call from another community midwife after my scan appointment saying that my last bloods showed I have an antibody that gives an increased risk of baby having jaundice.

So my planned section is booked for 10 May (due date!) and they will take blood from the cord when baby is born. Because of this they said I will spend at least 2 nights in hospital, I now need to prepare myself for being away from my little boy for 2 nights when I had hoped for just 24 hours.

This pregnancy malarkey is a proper rollercoaster!

Congratulations @EastMidsGem! Fantastic news!

Had another blood pressure check today, all looking good, not sure how I felt about the midwife though. Tried asking the midwife some questions about the induction and DH (shrugged and said to ask on the day), asked about the baby being too low to measure on Wed and whether they were engaged (got asked about symptoms, shrugged and told it sounds like things are moving in the right direction).

Today was final day in work. Spent the last two hours of my working day doing my yearly appraisal, goals for next year (🤷🏼‍♀️) and handover. Definitely sounding like my job role is being wound down while I'm away and I'll be starting from scratch again when I return. Oh well. Not my circus, not my monkeys!

BabyOnBoard90 · 29/04/2022 23:49

Our baby girl is due on May 3rd Tuesday. We were worried she'd come early as our childish preference was to have a May baby. Looks like we're gonna get our wish unless she's delivered within the next 24hours.

She's very active as of recent - she seems keen to get additional space so I guess this will be our last weekend as just a couple.

GinnyBee · 30/04/2022 07:48

Congrats on starting mat leave @YfenniChristie ! It's great, I've had such a nice, relaxing time in between getting the last bits ready. Haven't done any of the Netflix watching I was hoping to have time for though 😂

@Yellowbelly12 I'm also booked in for my ELCS on the 10th! 39 weeks exactly for me though.

Had another go at collecting colostrum straight into the syringe this time and I'm not sure I found it any easier, but not any harder either. Still only tiny droplets, I did two sessions yesterday and got about 0.2ml again first time and then 0.1ml the second time, so am nowhere near filling a syringe yet. And now feeling a bit battered and bruised 😅

Kittycaz · 30/04/2022 09:30

I've been watching animal programmes on Netflix as trying to stay calm and relaxed. Bout to go for a 2 hour uphill hike in hopes it may turn cramps into contractions, even if it doesn't work will be good to get some fresh air.

@GinnyBee how exciting! In one way 10 May seems ages away but then it’s a week on Tuesday which doesn’t seem long at all 😬

My husband just got my step daughters baby Annabelle out and out little boy is not impressed. Came straight for cuddles with me and wouldn’t let me have the doll at all 🤦‍♀️😂

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 30/04/2022 10:28

Hi everyone, hope you’re all well. I haven’t been on the thread for a while but I’ve been trying to keep up with the thread when I can.

My baby was due on 2nd May but decided to make a surprise appearance on Tuesday. She was 7lb15 and is just the sweetest, squishiest little angel baby. The birth went ok. I was high risk due to a previous pph and was fortunate that all went smoothly this time. We got to go home the same day. Her 2 brothers (nearly 5 and 3.5) are over the moon with her.

H0peing · 30/04/2022 10:39

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat Congratulations! She is so beautiful! How was the labour? Any tips to share? Xx

H0peing · 30/04/2022 10:47

@Kittycaz I hope the uphill hike helps today! The Midwife said she couldn't see the cervix clearly because it was so high / far away for her to reach so I have no idea, wish I did know but I've been told that your cervix can sometimes open up within hours so I guess labour could still happen naturally at any time. 5 bowel movements in one day definitely sounds like your body is having a clear out, which I've heard often happens before labour. I'm planning to have at least one long walk today and to bounce on my birthing ball again, use my double express pump as that always brings on contractions (although so far they haven't led to labour), will drink some more raspberry leaf tea and see if baby wants to take her last opportunity to be an April baby or not! Xx

H0peing · 30/04/2022 10:50

@GinnyBee I've only been getting droplets of colostrum too. My Midwife said not to worry as many women won't get any until baby arrives. She said that getting anything at all is a good sign and to keep trying. Xx

H0peing · 30/04/2022 10:54

@GinnyBee sorry you're feeling battered and bruised though! Are you hand expressing or using a pump? I found it more uncomfortable to hand express, which is probably unusual, so I chose to start using the same double pumping I used with my son and only got some colostrum that way. It's a lactaline personal one. I've found it quite comfortable to use the pump and have a double pump bra to hold them in place so I can sit relaxing watching TV / be on my phone or whatever whilst I pump! X

GinnyBee · 30/04/2022 12:19

@H0peing hand expressing. I think I'll have a day off today. I'm sure it'll get easier and my boobs will get more used to it, but being already a bit sensitive and then going around squeezing them is not the most comfortable activity!

Kittycaz · 30/04/2022 13:28

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat congratulations 🎉☺️

Bubbasmama2017 · 30/04/2022 14:43

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat congratulations!

How is everyone who has had their babies recovering? Part of my fear around the birth is tearing or something and having an uncomfortable recovery!

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 30/04/2022 14:54

Thank you @H0peing ! My only tips for labour really would be practice some labour breathing exercises as these really helped me get through the contractions. I got to 5cm before I had any pain relief and it was manageable with breathing and keeping in mind that they would pass and I was one step closer to it being over and having my baby in my arms.

@Bubbasmama2017 I have had tears with all 3 babies. I’m saying this in the hopes of reassuring people and not scaring them so I hope it comes out right! Basically I’m saying it’s been ok. A bit sore but nothing horrendous and it has always healed fine in the past. I’m on day 4 now and it’s maybe slightly tender if I’m sitting at a bad angle but nothing awful.

H0peing · 30/04/2022 16:02

@GinnyBee a day off sounds like a good idea to me! I've been told that it's not supposed to hurt. Definitely a good idea to give yourself a break from it if it's leaving you feeling bruised. Xx

H0peing · 30/04/2022 16:04

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat Thanks for the tips! Yes I had a small tear with my DS but didn't even feel it and it healed quickly. I have practised the positive birthing company's breathing tips a while ago but not recently tbh so I think I'll go over those as I can imagine how they could be very helpful. I was completely winging it the first time so I'm trying to be a bit more prepared this time around. Xx

JMill13 · 30/04/2022 16:30

Ah congrats @MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat what a wee beauty 🥰

Bubbasmama2017 · 30/04/2022 16:45

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat thanks that is reassuring to me. I had a tear and stitches with DD and found it quite painful for a while, nothing long lasting though.

Got worried when I thought my waters we're trickling out earlier but think I just wee'd myself a bit lol. I don't feel like I'm any closer to having this baby than I was a few weeks ago other than midwife and scan showing she's engaged! Sometimes when I stand up I feel like she's low but it doesn't last long and Braxton Hicks seem to have stopped. Hope she's not going to take til week 42 to arrive!
