Anyone else confused by the acronyms 😂
What does DD/ DH actually stand for...I get it in terms if the sentence context, but it's used everywhere lol.

Cakecakecheese · 05/06/2022 14:34

@Unknown6 D means darling or dear I think and the next letter is D for Daughter C for Children H for husband etc.

squatternutbosh12 · 06/06/2022 08:36

@netflixandnochill hello! Gosh lots going on for you - hope you’re feeling ok with it all. Such a shame about your holiday having to be cancelled 😩 but good that they are keeping you safe! Can you do a uk version instead? Hope the metformin helps with the sugars soon too. Re banned foods…I’ve got a list on my phone of excellent food i’m going to eat as soon as baby comes and I’m recovered enough to enjoy it 😆

ToCaden · 06/06/2022 10:40

30 week consultant appointment done. Can't decide anything about birth plan until i know if placenta has moved at 34 weeks, but had a chat around options.

Blood pressure still looking good, but sugar high so am booked in for gestational diabetes test wednesday. So many appointments. This makes two more this week and another two next week.

Unknown6 · 06/06/2022 18:25

I'm starting my NCT classes on Monday, time seems to be speeding up now.....

I agree. It suddenly feels like there's barely any time left.

netflixandnochill · 07/06/2022 06:40

@squatternutbosh12 Thanks for your message. Metformin going really well so far 🤞🏼 Next consultant appointment in 8 days.

@Unknown6 This is so exciting!

@ToCaden Good luck at your test on Weds. Either way blood monitoring is no where near as bad/daunting as I thought it was going to be.

@Beth262 How are you getting on?

Magik8ball · 07/06/2022 11:06

I did the initial video consultation and so I finally have a physio appointment today. Hopefully I can finally get these pelvic and mobility problems sorted! I'll be given a maternity band at the very least.

Isonthecase · 07/06/2022 12:16

Went to my consultant appointment today with all these plans of asking about support bands and then felt so faint at the blood test that I had to go lie down for half an hour instead ...that was embarrassing 😂 Anyone else struggling with the heat?!

CoalCraft · 07/06/2022 13:05

@Isonthecase unfortunately it's still a bit chilly down here in miserable South Wales 😕 Hope you're feeling a bit better though!

I seem to have done something to my lower back / bum muscles 😬 Really hurts to walk sometimes, especially if I've been lying down beforehand, with an achy pain right over my coccyx and down to my right bum cheek... Charming I know! Almost feels like I've fallen hard on my bum and bruised it, but I haven't!

Gem2811 · 07/06/2022 13:31

@Isonthecase I feel your pain in regards to the heat I can't cope literally feel like I am going to faint everywhere so embarrassing!

@CoalCraft maybe a bit of sciatica pain? Try putting a tennis ball between your back and the wall and roll it around for a couple of mins might help?

ToCaden · 07/06/2022 13:39

South wales here too. Am liking the chilly overcast weather and not looking forward to the heat when it reaches us. I don't do well in hot weather normally so will probably end up moaning on here that i'm boiling.

Good thing is i'm well stocked up on all kinds of things to battle heat. I even have a vest with multiple pouches on back and front you can stick icepacks in so you can walk aŕound surrounded in ice. Plus fans. Though my fav is this big long icepack. I used to spread it out on the bed during last heatwave and just lie on top of it. Bliss, and the only way i could fall asleep.

@Isonthecase i'm sure they've seen much worse. No need to be embarressed. I still remember hearing how common it was for patients to pee themselves during ultrasounds and similar procedures. Medical staff have seen all sorts. They were probably just relieved you didn't fall and konk your head or throw up on them.

@CoalCraft i'm finding it so easy to pull or tweak something, or just end up with mysterious aches and pains. I'm told it's all the hormones relaxing ligaments, etc, to make it easier to squeeze that baby out when time comes. Turning over in bed is now a hazard.

Unknown6 · 07/06/2022 14:30

@Isonthecase, I nearly fainted at one of my appointments and was only 16 weeks at the time so don't feel embarrassed!

CoalCraft · 07/06/2022 14:46

@ToCaden Uch yes re. the dangers of turning over in bed. I seem to pull something every time I try to shift or sit up! I don't remember this from my first pregnancy but have probably blanked it out 😁

Isonthecase · 07/06/2022 15:19

Thanks for the reassurance everyone, glad it's not just me 😂

@CoalCraft it gets worse each pregnancy 🙈

Oh my gosh, yep me too. My partner couldn't get work off so I took an uber to the hospital for my physio appointment and I felt so ill in the car. I was overheated, shaking, nauseous and trying not to pass out or projectile vomit everywhere in the uber😅
I had to sit down on the bench outside because I was worried I'd faint if I tried to go to the physio department. After a few minutes I did go up as it was making me late. I don't know how I managed to get up there but I did! After being called in from the waiting room I asked the therapist if I could go to the bathroom quickly and there I proceeded to vomit about 6 times😂

squatternutbosh12 · 07/06/2022 17:46

Oh blimey sorry for those of you fainting and vomiting with the heat! So unpleasant 😣 hope everyone has had a rest and a cold drink and is feeling better! I’ve become obsessed with ice lollies recently, specifically tesco rocket lollies - highly recommend and imagine they will be my saviour through heatwaves!

Had my anaesthetics clinic appointment this morning which was good, set out a solid plan of what to do with my steroid cover for the section so feeling much more settled about that! The consultant was also very reassuring about the spinal which was nice as I was a bit worried about that.

then saw midwife in the afternoon and baby measuring 29cm at 31 weeks, so just about ok since allowed 2cm bigger or smaller. Hoping it’s not him starting to have slowed growth but will have a scan in 2 weeks anyway to check.

Are people doing antenatal classes yet? I had first one last week and got another tonight, first felt very informative, and the other couples seem like a nice bunch so hopefully can be some people to meet for coffee on maternity leave etc.

how is it only 8.5 weeks to go 😱😱😱

Cakecakecheese · 07/06/2022 18:30

I start antenatal classes on the 20th. They're NCT ones which I've heard mixed reviews of but there's no NHS ones here and we wanted to do something.

ToCaden · 07/06/2022 19:36

@squatternutbosh12 I know! Weird to think it's only around two months at this point.

Also ice lollies are awesome.

SquigsC · 08/06/2022 00:25

Hey! Excited to hear about all the antenatal classes. We are doing one through our local children's centre as we didn't want to pay for NCT and our midwives only do a one day antenatal thing... don't really know why. As a FTM though I have found them so reassuring so far.

I am now 32 weeks (god help me) and I think my boy's kicking pattern is changing. It now actually feels like my kicks are really low in my uterus - and sometimes it feels like he's actually kicking down my vagina. It's so uncomfortable - has anybody else experienced this? I am hoping he is punching with his head down rather than being the wrong way up!

Also, I am with all of you that said about getting injuries so easily. Turning in bed is a nightmare for me too, as is carrying a bag with any weight to it (even light shopping!).

I am also still totally clueless what to do birth wise. As an anxiety sufferer, uncertainty isn't really my thing.

madeleine85 · 08/06/2022 03:33

@SquigsC only 28 weeks but I’m feeling the same re. Kicks feel so low down. Wonder if it’s because we have done this before? I think he’s simultaneously punching my ribs which is just lovely 😂. Basically I’ve no idea what way up he is. Last night I tried side sleeping, and the weight shift of the bump was actually painful. I had to stop! My DD was mini so this all feels very new. Very jealous you’re 4 weeks further ahead, exciting times!

suze12 · 08/06/2022 08:06

Sorry to hear about everyone struggling with the heat- pregnancy is so hard in so many ways. I’ve been ok so far but am dreading the later summer months I have to say. Luckily work are very understanding and I think I’ll be able to wfh the majority of the time if I start to struggle with the commute etc, but still, dreading it and think I’ll also be living off ice lollies!

I also started NCT classes last night and it was a really pleasant surprise. I too had heard mixed reviews and they’re certainly not cheap, but both me and my husband felt we learnt a lot about the different stages of labour and our group seem like a really great bunch. Nobody seems judgemental/annoying and I’m really hopeful that we can forge some good friendships out of it!

I’m 30 weeks now and starting to worry that we haven’t bought any of the big items. I’m keen to buy secondhand for cost & environmental reasons (apart from car seat & mattress as I know they have to be new). The amount of choice for prams, bedside cribs and car seats seems really overwhelming- does anyone else feel the same/any recommendations? Think we’re going to head to John Lewis and have a play with the prams and then see if we can find one in good condition on Facebook marketplace.

Not long to go now…

Beth262 · 08/06/2022 10:16

@netflixandnochill I'm still hanging on! Though back in again at the moment for monitoring. Tightenings have been coming more frequently so waiting for the doctor to come and hopefully check my cervix is still closed!

I am so glad I am not the only one - sometimes it feels so sensitive down there. This is actually my first baba, so have no idea why I am getting the special treatment 😂I am guessing your baba is measuring average?

I don't know if you feel this way but it now feels like time is moving so quickly! Honestly can't believe I am at 32 weeks.

ToCaden · 08/06/2022 11:03

@suze12 facebook marketplace is really useful.

For prams i ended up going for a doona. I hadn't heard of it until mentioned by someone. It's both a pram and car seat and is just so easy to manover. I agree though. Tons of choices out there.
