@Octoblockisadick congrats on joining the boy club 😁, what a lovely scan pic! I'm very definitely pregnant looking now, feel huge already and we are only half way..

TowerStork · 01/02/2022 22:31

@Octoblockisadick Beautiful scan photo. Your bump looks much bigger and better than mine when is in 'ate too much pudding' over Christmas territory.

Interested to hear what those with cats are planning to do. I was going to use a moses basket but I could see the cat trying to make a home of it. The cat would spend a good bit of time in the bedroom so I was thinking of reducing that slowly so she doesn't get in a sudden huff when she's eventually kept out for the baby's arrival.

Prema112 · 01/02/2022 23:42

Hi ladies, I haven't managed to keep up with the thread the last few days but I hope you're all well, @Octoblockisadick Amazing scan, you can really see the details of his little face!

Ladies who are a bit further along and are feeling regular moments, anyone else's bub have a full on party just as they are trying to go to sleep?? Mine seems to love doing this, I'm not complaining I love feeling him dancing away but I'd like to sleep now please!

Rolledthedice · 02/02/2022 00:26

Lovely scan photos! So wonderful seeing your little ones developing. 💜

@RubyRoss I have a cat and was just reading the advice on Cats Protection. They suggest playing a MP3 of a baby crying before the baby arrives, so the cat can adjust to the noise - but I don’t think I’m ready for that noise yet, let alone the poor cat! 😂

www.cats.org.uk/help-and-advice/cats-and-your-family/cats-and-your-pregnancy

Also apparently cats can smell your pregnancy because of the hormone rush, and many become more needy and rub themselves on you more as they are trying to readjust the smell balance. This explains why my cat is suddenly shunning OH and will only sit on my lap. He’s being a right needy bugger (the cat, not my partner 😉)

hellointhere · 02/02/2022 05:47

Is it possible to see a kick at 19 weeks? I was just staring at my belly and I think I saw something! It could have been a twitch but it really shocked me! What's strange though is I haven't felt 100% on any sensations of movements. This is my first pregnancy so I just am uncertain what each feeling could be.

JAR1981 · 02/02/2022 06:51

Hi ladies, just back from a week in the Cotswolds and New Forest (lovely) and trying to catch up. Was nice to step away from the phone for a few days!

Congrats on all the beautiful scans.

@fpeg thanks so much for sharing all the dog meets baby related stuff. We have a very lively vizsla who thinks she rules the roost so really need to start getting her prepped.

@Prema112 yes full party at bed time and got woken up at 2am on Monday night too. In fact yesterday was one of those days where I think LO had turned over and I hadn’t felt much movement, but come 11pm had a huge rave so much so that my husband leapt back from a cuddle as they were thrashing around at him in there. He thinks I’m growing an alien 🤣

PeeAche · 02/02/2022 08:06

What a gorgeous scan @Octoblockisadick ! ❤️

My stomach is quite a lot bigger but to anyone but me, I'm pretty sure it just looks like I've been having takeaway every night!

RoseValleyRambles · 02/02/2022 08:24

@hellointhere I think so - I'm sure I see one very early too. I guess it depends where baby is. I can definitely see the occasional kick now, even though it's just a little vibration/twitch.

They're also getting harder. How long do they stay cute for before they're actually quite sore?

TowerStork · 02/02/2022 09:27

@Rolledthedice that's good to know about playing baby sounds to help the cast adjust. I'll leave it until the third trimester though because it would freak everyone out to do it now. I might put up some of the baby furniture a few weeks early too so the cat can check it out and lose interest before we need it. The cat ignores me in favour of DH at the best of times. Pregnancy hasn't changed that.

Plain white 100%
GrowBabyGrow · 02/02/2022 10:44

@PeeAche you might look more pregnant than you think! I thought I was exaggerating in my mind how pregnant I look but at the weekend I saw my parents and the first thing they said was “wow you have a bump!” And I was wearing a baggy top.

@MrsNT I’ve got a few bundles of bits from Vinted because I liked the patterns and animals on them but I feel so unsure about what to dress babies in and what I actually need. Do they need a vest under a sleep suit even in summer? And what is the difference between a sleep suit and a babygro. Or are they the same thing?

MrsNT · 02/02/2022 10:46

@growbabygrow Sleepsuit and babygrow are the same thing
Baby always needs to be in one extra layer compared to you.so if u have a tshirt and trouser only i.e 1 layer..baby needs a vest and something on top..so thats 2 layers

@MrsNT thank you!

I might have missed this earlier on but is there a list any of you would recommend on what sizes to get and how many of each? I saw this pack of 5 vests on JL which look like they would be good quality and easy to wash but no idea on sizes. Or is that something to decide closer to the time when I know how the baby is growing?

Sorry clueless FTM here! I feel like I've hit the almost half way mark and my brain is in overdrive getting ready mode... surely its too early for nesting?!

MrsNT · 02/02/2022 11:57

@GROWBABYGROW

This is what ive bought/will be buying. Ive got some bits and yet to buy some

3 hats (upto 3 month size)

5 socks set (0 to 6month size is standard i think)

10 dribble bibs

10 Muslin cloths

3 big size swaddles

2 knitted blankets for pram/daytime

Now onto clothes

0 to 1 month clothes (to use in hospital and inital 1 to 2 weeks?)

6 baby half sleeve vests (also called bodysuits )
5 sleepsuits (also called baby grows)

Ive been told by everyone not to buy this 0 to 1 size alot as baby outgrows very quickly

Upto 3months size items

10 white sleeveless baby vests /body suits for everyday use
7 printed/colored half sleeve vests/bodysuits(to wear as standalone outfit during heatwave . Got a pack of 7 for £7.50)
7 sleepsuits/babygrows
2 rompers (i.e footless sleepsuits but without feet/sock bits)
3 tshirts
3 trousers /pyjama bottoms (to mix match with the 3 shirts)
1 dungaree outfit

Thats all im buying at the moment as I know I will get some as gifts aswell. Not buying any 3month onwards stuff at the moment .will buy that when baby is here. Will buy same qty as above when needed. I did buy 2 outfits for 3 to 6month because they were in sale and ridiculously cheap. So if i see something thats a bargain for 3 month onward size ill buy otherwise not getting it.

Hope this helps

MrsNT · 02/02/2022 12:00

@growbabygrow
And ive been told by everyone to not buy expensive stuff so Im buying stuff from asda, Tesco, morrisons, sainsbury. Tesco seemed to have the best variety in store as they dont do online.

I picked up an outfit for £4 from next because it was in sale but i wont bother buying full price since baby outgrows stuff quickly

Annabell1 · 02/02/2022 12:17

@GrowBabyGrow I feel exactly the same. I have no clue what sizes to get.
I thought I would be OK with a couple of things in a newborn size and a few things in 0-3months...until I checked out H&Ms baby collection. 😳

Annabell1 · 02/02/2022 12:21

Thanks @MrsNT. Just saw your post.

MrsNT · 02/02/2022 12:41

@annabell1 not buying anything from h&m as the sizes are difficult. How many do i purchase of 1 to 2 and 2 to 4 so im sticking to places that do 0 to 3 standard

Annabell1 · 02/02/2022 12:56

@MrsNT Thanks, I think I will do the same. No need to complicate things. 😂
I like their baby clothes, but I can always go back later.

pregnancydiaries · 02/02/2022 13:35

Ladies I am so confused 😂 so I understand baby needs an extra layer to us, so am I right with the below?

Hot day:

  • vest
  • short sleeve body suit with legs and arms out? (This seems like an odd concept to me but perhaps that is because I am from Scotland 😂)

Cooler day:

  • vest
  • full sleeve/full leg sleep suit
  • cardigan/pram suit etc depending if really cold

I think I'm ok with the cooler dress wear but I'm confused about what to dress a newborn in in summer and just letting their bare legs hang out...help please!!xx

unknownscot · 02/02/2022 13:47

If warmer than 23* outside then one layer is ample.
However remember if it's 23 in the sun the baby will be cooler in the shade and so may need an additional layer.
No sun until at least three months I'm sure.

FTM so May be wrong.

Clueless22 · 02/02/2022 13:51

I had a grosnug delivered today and it came with this little guide. Not sure if of any use to anyone? I also purchased a groegg in the sale which aligns to this by the looks of things.

@pregnancydiaries @unknownscot
Ftm here aswell..im not buying a pram suit for first 3 months. Will buy 2 cardigans (forgot to add in my list above)
My nephew was born in Mid June..in the middle of heatwave in UK. He used to be in the vest plus bodysuit during thr day with arms and legs out as it was sooooo hot. Night time in vest and sleepsuit. I think some nights it was with legs out as it was boiling that summer. I dont think he wore a cardigan ever in the 1st month. By month 2 or 3 he only wore it in the pram or carseat or getting outside. So im going by that basis. We did get some really hot days last yr in UK plus our house gets reallllly hot with alot of sun.
