@Pickle0901

I'm in all kind of upset and despair.... I went for my early pregnancy scan and they picked up a sac and there doesn't seem to be anything inside...

They weren't medically trained so I don't know what to think....

I'm 10wks today according to my dates of last period. They told me the sac is 6wks and 2 days but that they can't see the foetus... I have read some things online stating it means I'll have a miscarriage and then I've read some blogs where people have had the same and then gone on to have a healthy baby. My worry is why is it looking like 6 weeks if it's supposed to be 10.

I need an internal scan but I just feel so disappointed and sad and awful about it.
My OH is trying to be positive. He's been looking online at scan pics and thinks it looks healthy cos there is a tiny dot but that's only visible on one and it does look pretty empty. I just don't know what to think. I don't even know what I expect anyone to say but just don't know who to talk to!!

I’m really sorry you are going through this. Unfortunately 10 weeks is a very big gap from 6+2. If they can’t see a fetal pole, that suggests the sac has grown but baby hasn’t. I have been in this position and it’s fucking awful.

Call your EPAU in the morning. If you don’t have their number, call the midwife helpline. The place you had the scan should be able to send over your report so they have it to hand, they did for me.

Please be kind to yourself and seek comfort in your partner. I’m praying for a good outcome for you, but prepare yourself for the worst. I tried to find hope in people being ‘a couple of weeks behind’ and it just made the crash to earth so much harder.

Once again I am so very sorry you have to experience this. Flowers

purpleskyssssss · 15/12/2021 20:01

@Pickle0901 sorry to hear that like said below contact your EPU unit, your midwife should of gave you these numbers, they should get you booked in for a scan and be able to do investigation, I can imagine what a worry this may be.

Was your period cycles pre pregnancy regular?

Pickle0901 · 15/12/2021 20:48

@Suprima thanks - I called EPU at the hospital and they have booked me in for Monday but that just seems so far off.

As I had my bloods etc done on monday I'm going to see if I can get though to anyone for some results. Although my midwife only works monday to Wednesday... but maybe someone will be able to access my records.

I had my HCG levels done a month ago and they said it was very early but they more than doubled 48 hours later which is what was needed. They went from approx 600 to 1580.

I'm just torturing myself trying to cling on but trying to be realistic and accept that it's probably not happening. I can't believe how upset I feel when I haven't ever seen it.

@purpleskyssssss thank you and yes I'll have a look for those numbers. In all honesty no my periods weren't regular. They would be within a fairly steady time (as in I wouldn't got months) but I would often be later than my app predicted...

Newmumatlast · 15/12/2021 22:21

Place marking as I'm due in July. Second baby. Have had an early scan and heartbeat and now trying to wait for my NHS one without worrying it will go wrong. Feels like forever to wait

Hi all haven't checked in for a while. I've been having terrible nausea & some sickness. So glad to working from home & not having to hide feeling unwell!

Pickle0901 i hope your dates are out & you can talk to someone tomorrow. The waiting is horrible.

I had my booking in appointment last week & ive got to be consultant led & on a high dose of folic acid as I'm so fat 🤦‍♀️
Got my scan next week when I'll be 12 weeks so fingers crossed we'll get a nice scan photo to break the news to family at Christmas!

@Pickle0901 I’m so sorry to hear this, thinking of you. The wait is so hard as well 😔

@CaptainCarp for my last pregnancy my BMI was over so I had to be consultant led - you get loads of extra scans called gap and grow. So take it as a positive as I loved the extra scans 😂 this time around I’m smaller so my BMI isn’t high enough (only because I’ve lost so much weight with hyperemesis) so I won’t get the extra scans and I’m gutted! I’m consultant led again this time but due to complications of my first labour - but no extra scans unless indicated at the time 😭

AppleTree16 · 16/12/2021 07:36

@Pickle0901 glad the EPU has managed to get you an appointment so quickly. Was your scan an abdominal one not an internal? At my ultrasound at 8 weeks they told me at reception that’s it’s best for a transvaginal up to 10 weeks, so hopefully it could just be scan quality? Thinking of you over the weekend. Can you go for a walk or do something to try and distract yourself? (I know, easier said than done) x

Maybepossibly22 · 16/12/2021 08:35

@CaptainCarp waves another consultant led chubby lady right here! My midwife is raging at the fact that BMI dictates whether we are consultant led or not, I’m overweight but I wouldn’t say fat. But, yay for extra scans!

Maybepossibly22 · 16/12/2021 08:36

@Pickle0901 sending you Flowers fingers crossed your dates are off lovely and everything is as it should be in there

Capricorn8990 · 16/12/2021 08:40

@Pickle0901 also thinking of you. Best wishes for Monday. Lots of love to you xx

CaptainCarp · 16/12/2021 10:04

@annie1994 @Maybepossibly22 Glad I'm not alone in being consultant led!
I've always been in the "overweight" part of BMI (only time I've been in the "healthy" range is when i was very ill & i was barely eating a sandwich a day for 2 weeks!)

I am obese now & I can't deny that I am a fatty. Going to try & keep an eye on my weight to make sure I'm not "eating for 2" & only have a steady gain. Plenty of energy stores for me / baby to feed on.

Thanks all you're a lovely group & I wish you all happy and healthy pregnancies.
I'm leaving the group as I don't want to bring the tone down and have a lot to contend with right now. Thank you for your lovely words, you're all so good x

kelsn96 · 16/12/2021 11:05

Hi all! Could anyone recommend the best place to get NIPT testing with a short turn around? I'm worried Christmas may delay things xx

annie1994 · 16/12/2021 12:26

@CaptainCarp @Maybepossibly22 I gave birth to my first during lockdown and before the first lockdown I had to see ‘healthy weight midwifes’ but hallelujah to covid (one positive of having a baby in lockdown) they cancelled all them appointments 🙌🏻😂

But personally I would take it positively for the extra scans 😝

@Pickle0901 sending love x

sleepyshiftworker · 16/12/2021 13:42

Just checking in. Had my over the phone booking in yesterday & got to go tomorrow for bloods. Feel so so sick today after a night shift last night it's horrible. Cooking Christmas dinner for my sister and her children tonight and literally want to curl up and hide. Grim. Apparently 9+4 today. Took another test yesterday as still think it's all in my head.

Maybepossibly22 · 16/12/2021 17:58

Had a bit of an odd call today, which has worried me - DH says it’s nothing to worry about but will see what you all think/see if anyones experienced the same:

Had bloods done Tuesday, phone call today from midwife at the hospital to say that antibodies have been found in my blood - I am rhesus negative but had anti-D injections in my last pregnancy so shouldn’t be an issue in this one.

The midwife said it was nothing to worry about but it’s sent me into a blind panic!

It will just be exactly the same thing and you’ll need the injections again (but you probably already knew that if you’ve had them before?)
sleepyshiftworker · 16/12/2021 20:13

@Maybepossibly22 did they discuss a plan?

Random - I've had cervical biopsies since my last pregnancy & MW told me yesterday that I may have to have scans from 12 weeks on my cervix to monitor for early labour. Any experience of this?

SamanthaVimes · 16/12/2021 20:23

I had my booking appointment today, I get a much better vibe from this midwife than the one I had in my last pregnancy Smile
She was very efficient and managed to get my blood first time (usually I get stabbed full of holes!)

Glittergirl2 · 16/12/2021 20:38

@CaptainCarp I’m also consultant led for being fat 🙋🏼‍♀️😂 with my first pregnancy two years ago they tried to scare the life out of me, every consultant appointment went over the risks. In the end I managed to get signed back over to a midwife led birth as I had a completely normal pregnancy and had a water birth so I’m not going to stress too much about it this time x

Ive had a cervical biopsy before but they never mentioned extra scans, i remember the cons who did the LLETZ did say that they need to monitor late in pregnancy because of the damage but it doesn't usually cause problems. Hopefully just a precaution, have you had a few biopsies done before?

AppleTree16 · 17/12/2021 18:05

Really impressed by the care from the midwife service where I am. Got a call today from the EPU to check up on me with covid (after community midwife let them know I wasn’t very well). Calling back on Monday again. I feel very looked after!

Suprima · 17/12/2021 18:34

12 week scan today- all looking well.

I wanted to compare nubs- but she was manically kicking her feet. The nub like sticky out thing is her toes!
