We've booked an A-Z appointment with John Lewis weekend after next and they take you through everything you'll need. We've pretty much got most of it though 😂 but will be good to hear what they have to say and if we've missed anything. No obligation to buy but if you spend over a certain amount you get a discount I think

Yellowbelly12 · 31/12/2021 22:34

@Sarah239 when we were expecting our first baby a couple of years ago we watched lots of YouTube videos showing must haves for newborns. Got some useful tips then went to see our shortlist of stuff to compare them in person.

We went to a Mamas and Papas expecting parent event (this was pre Covid, not sure if they still happen) where we got our cybex cloud z car seat which we loved. Then went to an independent baby shop that stocks everything and we could test drive a few different pushchairs to make our decision - another cybex (the Priam). Both are still in really good condition despite lots of use so we will use these for this baby as well.

Happy New Year, ladies!!!

🥰 It'll be a big one for us all!

fattycatty82 · 01/01/2022 08:59

Crazy to think we're all having babies this year! That's a whole new person 😂 Happy new year everyone, I have a feeling time is going to fly by now.... x

GinnyBee · 01/01/2022 09:35

Guys, how much exercise is 'enough'? I'm struggling 😞 I'm used to being very active, CrossFit 3 times a week and physically active job 3 days a week, but now I just can't find the motivation. I always struggle in the winter, but now I have an extra excuse to indulge the slump. I've been booked in to the gym like four days in a row and cancelled every single one, the last time I west was Christmas Eve. I still have to walk the dog daily, so I get my 10,000 steps easily, but it's just so much less than what I'm used to! At work we're also about to start pruning, so whilst that's not exactly vigorous I'll be up on my feet all day.

I've even considered freezing my membership for a while and just focus on walking etc. stuff I can do at home.

Honestly I think do what your body is telling you. I've been in the gym quite a bit (every day this week!) and I'm not convinced it's been that good for me. I ache like hell and my back hurts. I've given up on CrossFit classes but I still do a lot of the same things on my own and I'm starting to think it's a bit much for me now. I'd like to do more walking (weathers been pants and no dog to motivate me!) swimming and yoga as I think it's just kinder on the body. I know how you feel, I feel rubbish and guilty when I don't work out but I've come to the conclusion that it's not good to put pressure on myself either. Just do what works for you I say

fattycatty82 · 01/01/2022 10:08

Oh and my trainer at CF said that second half of pregnancy you should be aiming for no more than 30 mins a day of exercise so sounds like you're doing that. Mind you, I've heard different things so sometimes hard to know what's right/wrong

aNewYorkerInLondon · 01/01/2022 11:09

Hey ladies, I’d like to find under-bump knickers that fully cover my (ample) backside. I feel like many under-bump styles don’t cover the bum cheek to cheek and all the way up. Any suggestions?

H0peing · 01/01/2022 12:23

HelloSmile

My 20 week scan went well and it was lovely to have another confirmation that it's a girl as well. Looks like a healthy baby girl with long legs!

So far I've managed with just using normal pillows for sleeping in this pregnancy and managed without one for the whole pregnancy with my son but I am in a lot of pain today. I woke up with intense pain in my right hip so that it hurts a lot when I walk so I am now considering buying a pregnancy pillow for the first time! Which is the cheapest one that anyone would recommend?

Thankfully, we bought loads of baby stuff with our son so we have just about everything already, although I'm looking forward to buying some dresses for the first time. X

itssquidstella · 01/01/2022 13:14

@H0peing glad to hear your scan went well too!

I have an Asda U-shaped pillow which was only £23.50 including delivery. I am finding it really comfortable and it has a washable cover. It's this one: www.google.com/amp/s/amp.direct.asda.com/george/baby/baby-feeding/breastfeeding/kinder-valley-12ft-nursing-maternity-pillow/050297393,default,pd.html

fattycatty82 · 01/01/2022 13:22

@aNewYorkerInLondon I'm in denial about my big bum at the moment and trying to still squeeze into my size 12 M&S pants! I have ordered some sexy disposable pants from Amazon for the hospital though 😩

H0peing · 01/01/2022 15:18

@itssquidstella Thank you so much! It's currently out of stock so I must be popular! X

SerendipitySunshine · 01/01/2022 18:57

So exciting to think our babies are due this year!

Jowd92 · 02/01/2022 07:05

Happy new year to all! I can’t believe how fast it has gone I have my 20 week scan this week coming up on Friday I’ll be 20+2 I’m feeling very anxious to be honest and worried this is my 5th baby and really expected to be feeling movement by now as I did with the others early and keeps making me think is something wrong last scan was at 16weeks when I had my gender scan and my placenta was posterior also, also had a lovely little Xmas just us as my daughter tested positive for Covid on Xmas eve so that was a worry and strangely no one else caught it in the household after doing many many tests! Altho I was convinced I had it with being so poorly for over 2 weeks now turns out I have bacterial tonsillitis and now on antibiotics for it hopefully start to feel better soon! It’s been very draining with the spd pain also!

Positive21 · 02/01/2022 07:19

Morning ladies, happy new year from baby and I!

Haven't posted on here for a while as my anxiety was making things tricky.

I had my 20 week scan on Thursday at 21+1 and baby is happy as Larry, very energetic.

But I was diagnosed with high uterine artery resistance. Of course they say "don't worry, we will just book you in some extra scans" and send you on your way, but of course google isn't helpful and I'm just anxious now that baby is going to be ok. They are on 10th percentile, although this is mainly due to short femur length. Everything else was pretty average/right size for age etc. Although a little bit light, but sonographer didn't seem to worried. Didn't put me on aspirin.

Just wondered if any of you ladies had anything similar in this or previous pregnancies?

It puts me at high risk of preeclampsia and reduced fetal growth so I have scans now at 28, 32 and 36 weeks.

Honeymint · 02/01/2022 08:13

@aNewYorkerInLondon I bought some M&S ‘high leg’ knickers by mistake but then found they’re much more comfy than my normal pairs for pregnancy. They cover quite a lot and seem to go under-bump!

@Positive21 I feel you, I was diagnosed with low Papp-A and went on a googling spree. I don’t know if arterial resistance is similar, but I’m also at higher risk of pre-eclampsia, low feral weight etc and need extra scans. My midwife reassured me that although it sounds scary, most mothers/babies with it are fine so I’m trying to just be happy with the extra scans. (But of course finding out anything is wrong is worrying!)

Honeymint · 02/01/2022 08:18

Is anyone else struggling with sleeping positions? I know there was a study that said not to sleep on your back after 20 weeks and a more recent one suggesting sleeping on your back upto week 28 is completely fine, but I’ve been trying to sleep on my side more and it’s already uncomfortable!
Then there was a larger study in 2019 suggesting sleeping on your back upto week 30 makes no difference at all. I want to believe that last one and just sleep however’s comfy but I feel weirdly guilty about it in case anything goes wrong.

Is everyone else just sleeping however’s comfy or are you already trying to sleep on your sides only or?

This is my first so I’m probably worrying way too much about silly things..

Positive21 · 02/01/2022 08:34

@Honeymint I'm sorry you're going through similar. It's frustrating isn't it. I was trying to be positive too, getting extra scans is very sweet 🥰

Plus I am so grateful that baby seems to be doing ok, and definitely thriving. They are so active! Every scan I've had they comment on baby not staying still and I get loads of movement at work when I'm sat still 😂 hope you are ok xx

Also yes, struggling with sleep big time! I'm normally a sleep on my left side person, all day long, but since falling pregnant all I want to do is lie flat on my back 😂

aNewYorkerInLondon · 02/01/2022 09:09

@Positive21, I'm at higher risk for preeclampsia because of preexisting hypertension. They did put me on aspirin at 12-weeks, and so far everything is progressing fine. We've had to increase my BP meds a couple of times, and we will likely need to a few more times before baby is here, but as long as it keeps working I'm staying optimistic. I too am glad for the extra scans, though I wish I just didn't have the hypertension, of course.

@Honeymint, thanks for the recommendation! That sounds very promising. I'll take a look today! For sleeping, I am a lifelong stomach-sleeper, so I started training myself to sleep on my left side last summer. I was doing well with it until about a week and a half ago, when the built-up pain in my hips and back were keeping me up. I bought a pregnancy pillow that supports both bump and back and I LOVE it! It's really helped me!

Minster2012 · 02/01/2022 09:17

@Honeymint I'm also struggling with trying to not sleep on my back, I've kinda half and half atm, I think it's starting to feel a bit more natural sleeping on my side so maybe it's as a bump progresses it gets easier?

I'm also suffering with a sharp lower back stabbing pain when I get up which I'm not enjoying atm

20weeks today & I've got my 20 week scan tomorrow & the anxiety has started to kick in again, I think maybe I felt some movements yesterday for the first time but unsure 😐 ppl keep telling me how I don't really have a bump which is kinda worrying too

GinnyBee · 02/01/2022 09:43

@Honeymint This is why I bought a pregnancy pillow just this week, I found myself waking up in a sideways sleep position with my legs stacked on top of each other and causing a bit of a hip ache, when I normally sleep kind of half on my front and half side with one leg bent and the other straight, opening the hips. That's now uncomfortable so I'm sleeping on my side and the pillow is super helpful!

I've seen suggestions that if you prop your upper body up a little bit with an extra pillow wedged under your upper back then that takes pressure off the vena cava and makes sleeping on your back safer. Also should help with nasal congestion if you find yourself sniffy.

Honeymint · 02/01/2022 20:50

@GinnyBee I was just going to say, after reading everybody’s pregnancy pillow recommendations I may buy a new one. I got a nice looking one from Jojo Maman but so far it’s been no help at all - some of the larger ones look much better!

@Minster2012 I’ve been getting that lower back pin when getting up, it’s a real nuisance. I wobble about like an old crone for a few seconds every time I get up 😬
My 20 week scan is this week as well and I’m so worried, hopefully for no reason. I hope yours goes okay!

Luckygreenduck · 02/01/2022 22:23

I am scared of sounding smug but I am loving being pregnant at the moment! I kept thinking all the talk of the 2nd trimester been great was rubbish as I was being really sick until around 18 weeks. The last week though I am just loving my bump and feeling him move. Starting to feel a real connection to him which I really didnt have until now.
My husband keeps laughing at me rubbing my belly but I cant stop myself.

KMHH · 02/01/2022 22:50

Hiii,

Just a bit confused here. I have that pregnancy + app which I love using and I've just checked and it says I am now 6 months pregnant? I'm 21 weeks today. When I have googled it etc the 6 month mark has loads of different dates on different sites,
Just wanted to know everyone's thoughts as I have no idea haha! Xx

aNewYorkerInLondon · 02/01/2022 23:35

@KMHH, could it be the difference between being "six months" and being "in your sixth month"?

Similar to how on your 20th birthday you have completed your 20th year and have entered your 21st year?

At 21 weeks pregnant, we've passed the five month mark and are "in" our sixth month, which we will complete when we achieve the six months pregnant mark.

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding the question 🤣
