@KMHH same! It popped up telling me to take my 6 month bump and I was like eh?! 😂

Is anyone else as fidgety and wanting to organise, as bad as me?! I'm currently sat here looking for a lounge suit and stuff for my hospital bag and I'm only 21+1, I feel like I need to be doing something, I can't just do nothing 😂

GinnyBee · 03/01/2022 06:33

@KMHH It probably means you're in your 6th month. There's no maths that makes any sense for 21 weeks to be 6 months! Wouldn't worry about months anyway, just count the weeks. I have the same app and it doesn't give me months.

@aNewYorkerInLondon thank you. I'm going to message the midwife and see what she says about the results. Fingers crossed yours is all ok, sounds to be nicely under control at the moment.

@MissM94 I am super fidgety! I'm really struggling with a desk job, I just can't get comfortable.

Sarah239 · 03/01/2022 11:12

@KMHH where does it say that? I'm 21 weeks today, checked app and only place I see Month 6 is under "My Bump" so I think it means sixth month [pics of your bump in sixth month].

I find that app seems to calculate a week ahead too, ie. now it gives me data for 22nd week rather than 21 weeks. You can change between Current Week or Completed Week in Settings but I find it still gives you same measurements either way. So I tend to look at the previous week or other apps for measurements.

It's a nice app but that aspect frustrates me slightly as I don't like looking too far ahead.

Hi Ladies! I know not everyone will plan to breastfeed, but if it is something that you are interested in doing, I read a book this weekend that I found to be very helpful and encouraging. It is called The Positive Breastfeeding Book.

It is definitely very "pro" breastfeeding, but it makes a lot of good points as to why, and it doesn't bother me at all that they clearly have a position on the matter, but I wanted to mention that anyway.

As a first time mother and as I am interested in breastfeeding my son, I found it to be very helpful and approachable, so I wanted to recommend it here to anyone in the same boat.

Bubbasmama2017 · 03/01/2022 13:56

@aNewYorkerInLondon thanks for sharing the book, I struggled last time but we combi fed and hoping to be able to do the same this time.

The tiredness has hit me like a ton of bricks again today! Anyone else? I'll be 22 weeks in 2 days and back to work then too was hoping I wouldn't feel as tired by this point!

aNewYorkerInLondon · 03/01/2022 14:07

@Bubbasmama2017, YES! So tired today. I slept during my entire lunch hour!

fattycatty82 · 03/01/2022 14:28

I'm tired too have been the last few days and also achy... but I have been waking up from 4am and had broken sleep. Starting an online pregnancy yoga class tomorrow night so hoping that might help with all these ailments. I'm definitely hoping to breastfeed, thanks for the book recommendation

Sarah239 · 03/01/2022 14:59

I have just done a drive thru PCR, husband has a cough (he also did a test) and one of my family members has tested positive. Soooo I'm pretty sure at least he is going to be positive as feasibly we are the only ones my family member could have caught something from (she was essentially shielding for a week pre Christmas and has only seen us since).

On the bright side though, possible exposure was 26th or 29th and so far I am asymptomatic 🤞So, so, so grateful I decided to have my booster 16 days ago. Might have been what stopped me catching it or prevented symptoms.

Thank you for the book tip @aNewYorkerInLondon I am planning to try but know it will be a huge challenge.

I also bought the Hypnobirthing Digital Pack (£40) by the Positive Birthing Company and my sister lent me The Hypnobirthing Book by Katherine Graves. Both are really good so far!

Thanks for the recommendation, I've ordered the book too. I found breastfeeding hard in the beginning last time, but was so glad I persevered. If I can make the early stages easier this time, all the better!

Evening! All I want to do is sleep, but on the other hand, all my husband wants to do is sort out the nursery and buy a pram.

So today we've been pram shopping! We think we've settled on the Egg 2 BUT so confused as to why some travel systems cost £1000s and others that look very similar cost half the price. Would love to hear what people are thinking in terms of prams.

We're also trying to figure out furniture we'll need for the nursery, so any suggestions are welcome! We're able to borrow a few pieces from my sister-in-law such as a Moses basket, etc, but it's so hard figuring out exactly what we need.

In other news, I don't know if I've slept awkwardly or what, but ribs on the left ache today. So uncomfortable!

Luckygreenduck · 03/01/2022 20:02

We were looking at car seats today, i agree its so confusing as they all seem similar but such differences in price!
We are leaning towards a separate pram and car seat rather than travel system but think i might regret it! Its convenience of been able to slot the car seat onto the pram vs the highest safety features and lasting till they are 4. Not sure what to go with.

itssquidstella · 03/01/2022 20:05

@YfenniChristie we've just ordered the Uppababy Cruz V2. I thought I wanted the Vista but when we tried them in store, the Cruz was a bit lighter weight and more manoeuvrable than the Vista. It's still pretty sturdy though, so should handle well on muddy paths etc. I like the huge basket and higher wheel base, as DH and I are both tall and this gives us room to walk without curtailing our stride.

We've gone for a bundle which includes the carrycot, car seat and car seat base - it's not cheap, but it means all the big purchases are dealt with in one go! The carrycot is suitable for overnight sleeping, too, which might be useful.

itssquidstella · 03/01/2022 20:06

@Luckygreenduck the car seat that comes with the Uppababy only does up to 13kg, which is a downside, but the base can be used with bigger seats for children up to around four, so we will only have to replace the seat and not the whole system.

Luckygreenduck · 03/01/2022 20:15

@itssquidstella that is good. Is it an isofic base? Still trying to get my head round it all. We went to Halfords today and there are a lot of options.

itssquidstella · 03/01/2022 20:17

@Luckygreenduck yes it's isofix! This is the bundle we bought: www.pramcentre.co.uk/prams-pushchairs-c1/uppababy-cruz-v2-bundle-inc-cloud-z-base-p18682#attribute%5B3%5D=5259

GinnyBee · 04/01/2022 09:17

What clothes have you all got? Like sizes and how many? We're going shopping on Saturday with MIL - returning the kitchen machine she got us for Christmas as we already have one and then buying fun baby stuff with the money, so probably cute clothes etc. Not gonna treat it like a serious event where we get boring essentials just yet, as it's technically Christmas presents.

Then I booked a JL baby appointment for the weekend after to sort out our proper list.

itssquidstella · 04/01/2022 09:47

@GinnyBee I’ve only bought one bit of clothing so far! Waiting until we can get to ikea to buy the drawers to put it all in.

fattycatty82 · 04/01/2022 09:48

@Sarah239 I hope you're all clear and feeling ok. I've also booked one this morning as woke in the night with a fever. Was really odd. Think I just feel tired now. I called the midwife and she wasn't very helpful but said babies are resilient and she's probably fine. She also kept calling me darling which was massively patronising. I think that's annoyed me more than the possibility of having covid!! Typical though, spent all of Xmas and new year avoiding people and potentially coped for it on my first day back at work 🤦‍♀️

Clothes was my favourite thing to buy @GinnyBee! I got a few bits from Boots, Next, Gap and matalan in all age groups, newborn, 0-3, 3-6 and even a few 12 months plus that were in the sale and seemed like bargains! I tried to get the same amount of tops and bottoms that would match and essentials like vests, baby grows and hats. I probably will get given some things so defo not buying anymore now as I think people typically go overboard and don't use everything. I've found a few bits on Facebook marketplace, people selling new clothes still with tags too

aNewYorkerInLondon · 04/01/2022 10:06

I picked up a few mix-and-match things in the black friday sales in 0-3 months, and one or two newborn things. I also bought some 6-9 month Christmas things in the after-Christmas sales so that I would have some cute things next Christmas at a discount! Hubs hasn't seen those yet! lol

Sarah239 · 04/01/2022 10:17

Our PCRs have come back negative. Hope yours does too @fattycatty82 ! Sorry about the patronising midwife!

Husband back to work today and I am back tomorrow... post-holiday blues feel a little different this year though as we have something to look forward to :)

Still feel like there is something holding me back from baby shopping but I will start researching now. One essential at a time I think!

Bubbasmama2017 · 04/01/2022 10:50

Has anyone started on the nursery yet?
I feel like I can't get any of the baby clothes out until I've got the furniture in! At the moment the nursery is my home office so can't really deal with it til I'm on mat leave although would like to work out where to put the cot in our room for space/size

Sarah239 · 04/01/2022 12:42

@GinnyBee my sister gave us a mountain of clothes from her babies and I've just been through all of it...! I don't think I need any more newborn clothes at all.

She had winter babies so the winter/summer balance is probably not quite right for May but this is what I have got:

5 cosy/hooded winter baby grows
8 cardigans/hoodies
29 full body baby grows
13 long sleeve bodysuits
15 short sleeve bodysuits
3 outfits
7 leggings
4 dresses
2 pairs tights
13 pairs socks
5 hats
1 t-shirt
3 short-sleeved baby grows
1 muslin swaddle (will def need more muslins!)

The vast vast majority is from my sister secondhand which I am so grateful for! I've only bought a couple of outfits myself.

I have read that all you really need for newborns is 14 baby grows and 14 vests... everything else is superfluous/non-essentials

Sarah239 · 04/01/2022 12:45

@Bubbasmama2017 I won't really have any storage space in our second bedroom until I go on maternity leave and can get rid of my work desk which will probably become my changing unit (we are not going to have a full nursery until we can move house) and then I will maybe put in an additional chest of drawers

In the interim I've just donated/cleared out some of my non-maternity clothes for the attic to clear some drawers and I'm using them for baby clothes!

Bubbasmama2017 · 04/01/2022 14:38

@Sarah239 good plan, with my first we didn't have her nursery set up until she moved into it at 6 months old because my partner used it as an office til then.
Feel a bit in limbo until we get nearer the time and can start setting stuff up but it will all work out.
