Hey,

New to the thread. I’m 8 weeks and 2 days. I have a little boy who’s nearly 4 but have had two miscarriages prior to this, so lots of low level anxiety (one miscarriage at 12 weeks in 2019, then left job and was freelance for the first nine months of the pandemic, then started a new job and didn’t want to get pregnant too quickly, then miscarried at five weeks earlier this year - really wanted a smaller gap but life had other plans). I’m 42, so properly geriatric. Pregnancy seems to be going well - touch wood. Same size at seven weeks as I was at 17 weeks with my little boy. Little concerned it’s twins, as I gather Mother Nature sometimes throws in an extra when you’re old. Bit like a closing down sale! Anyway, my little boy says the baby is called Dave and thinks he’s going to come out with my poo, which he thinks is hilarious. We have Babette Cole’s book Mummy Laid an Egg which is a big favourite now.

Nice to meet you

@Prema112 I think I'll push through till the end of the week (my new boss is out this week on compassionate leave) and then tell them next week and take that week out and ask for some more control over my workload.

Glad everything's fine week for you, I read you had a bit of a scare, so very pleased to hear all is well Thanks

PleaseSendNoodles · 15/11/2021 17:23

Just wanted to add in my two cents - not all Christians are against termination at any stage but totally appreciate many are.

destiEos · 15/11/2021 17:24

@ALHCTPS I'm over 42 and my midwife said she had a 49 year old as well, don't sweat it 😉

Also welcome 👋🏼

PleaseSendNoodles · 15/11/2021 17:25

Welcome, @ALHCTPS!

Prema112 · 15/11/2021 17:26

@MrsNT I'm a Christian & I've never heard of the 120 day thing either. It doesn't say in the Bible when life begins, I prefer to dwell on Bible verses like:

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭139:13-16‬ ‭
Smile

ALHCTPS · 15/11/2021 17:32

My rationale side understands this, but my kid brother was born when my mother was over 40 and is an utter oddball and case of ‘failure to launch’ (still living at home at 30, no gf or friends, no job, no prospects - waiting to become my parents carers), so my more paranoid side thinks what if I’m increasing my chance of having a kid like my brother. I love my brother, but wouldn’t want his life for my kid. That said, he’s probably have been a weirdo no matter my mother’s age…

AlbatrossSociety · 15/11/2021 17:34

@destiEos I'm in the same boat, started in October 2019 and the last time I felt on top of my work was beginning of March 2020! Welcome @ALHCTPS

3yearstrying · 15/11/2021 18:10

Im not religious but respect everyones opinions, i believe all fetuses have a soul no matter what age, and thats what i mourned following a miscarriage. But i do believe in choice and if its a mothers choice to not continue with a pregnancy so be it.

@ALHCTPS i am 26, and i have friends who are 30+ and they are the same as your brother, but their mothers werent over 40. I think its just who a person is and how they turn out

ALHCTPS · 15/11/2021 18:14

@3yearstrying exactly this, but my irrational side won’t quit niggling. The biggest problem with being 42 is that my chances of miscarrying are so much higher than ten years ago. Oh, and I’ll probably hit perimenopause around the same time my kids hit puberty, which should make life fun!

ALHCTPS · 15/11/2021 18:16

Anyway, as I’m so bloody old, we decided to shell out for one of those private tests at 10 weeks that screen for genetic issues. Such a lot of money but anything to help deal with the low level anxiety that won’t ease up.

MrsNT · 15/11/2021 18:18

What would be a better option pilates or yoga for antenatal exercise?

Clomid1 · 15/11/2021 18:18

@ALHCTPS which one did you go for? Just the one that checks for downs, edwards and patau’s or one that does like 299 genetic diseases

MrsNT · 15/11/2021 18:19

@ALHCTPS i have over 10yrs age gap between me and my siblings. My mum was over 40 when she had me. Stay positive xx

Pandamama88 · 15/11/2021 18:37

@MrsNT Ive done a bit of both. I found yoga was better for flexibility and relaxation and found pilates was better for building strength and exercising the core. You'll do some stretching in pilates and some strengthening exercises in yoga so it depends what you want to focus on. My instructor teaches both and I found her way of teaching pilates better. But in the past I have enjoyed yoga too. P.s. I'm pretty obese and still find the classes accessible.

MrsNT · 15/11/2021 18:43

@pandamam88 dilemma is need flexibitly strenght relaxtion for delivery so how does one choose 😂

beansprout55 · 15/11/2021 18:45

I SO want to get back into Pilates - it's been ages 🙄
But with all the bleeding etc I'm SO anxious to start, I wonder if it's better to wait until after 12 weeks for me x

ALHCTPS · 15/11/2021 19:08

@Clomid1 we should be having Harmony, but can go with one of the others on the day if we choose following the consultation. For the amount it costs, they better bloody be bending over to give options!

Pandamama88 · 15/11/2021 19:21

@MrsNT an hour of each?

TTCjourney2021 · 15/11/2021 19:28

Wow, I've missed so much?! I'll try catch up, but in the mean time! Congrats to everyone with good news recently and really sorry for those who haven't and I hope you rest and have the support you need xx

Prema112 · 15/11/2021 20:30

@CurryandSnuggle thank you!! X

rathernotshare · 15/11/2021 21:06

I have some stretch marks appearing under my armpits towards my boobs. Bit shocked and upset to be honest. I know they're natural but I've not even made it to 12 weeks yet

yellowpinkbluegreen · 15/11/2021 21:36

So sniffing pot of vicks vapour rub seems to help with the nausea.. just sharing in case it might help anyone else 😂

Same. I was doing Pilates 5 times a week prior to pregnancy.

Obstetrician yest told me to do brisk walking only , no running. I'll hold off exercising don't think it's worth it for me right now 😕

laurenGame · 15/11/2021 22:40

Had my first app with an obstetrician yesterday. Have been diagnosed with subchorionic hematoma , 40% size of the baby.

Nothing they can do to get rid of it, feel a bit sad as it means I can never be on cloud 9 with this pregnancy.
But on the positive is that I heard a heartbeat and it's a good size. 7 weeks today Smile

So many roller coasters on here, Huda not tagging you in case you don't want to see notifications, but I am so so deeply sorry. Thinking of you and hope you have great support to get through this ❤️
