@DawnWW - I was notified of my first booking in appointment within about a half day of doing my self referral form, then notified of my first scan appointment a couple of days later. Hope you hear back soon!

Effram · 26/10/2021 21:38

Congrats @DawnWW and @Trinxsy !!

@laurenGame to be fair, after my first baby I stayed in an extra couple of nights than I needed because it was so nice being looked after when I didn't have a clue what I was doing! Although the postnatal ward was hotter than the sun! But I completely agree - I really believe the most important thing for having a positive birth experience is being comfortable in your environment, wherever that is! Also downside of home birth - we can literally never move house ever again as I cried when we got a new sofa "but I was leaning on that one when I gave birth...." So can't even imagine leaving this house now 🤣

DawnWW · 26/10/2021 21:46

Wow @i123i that's quick! I completed it yesterday morning and not heard anything yet, maybe I'll wait till end of the week and call. I don't want to be needy but as it's my first and I've previously miscarried plus I'm older not sure if I need to be being more careful with things or being checked sooner? Haven't even had a blood test to confirm 🤷🏼‍♀️

Congrats to everyone else joining, looking forward to having a great group to support through the journey 😊

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 26/10/2021 21:47

Hi @DawnWW and @Trinxsy Smile
Newbie here too, 38, first baby, I think 4 weeks. Or could be 3 weeks. Or could be 5 weeks.

Can’t really tell as didn’t have a cycle Grin but guessing I’m a late June / early July

bagelcreamcheese · 27/10/2021 07:40

Hello! This is so fun to find this chat. I am a total newbie to mumsnet. I'm 4+5 (according to natural cycles) whcih puts my DD at 1st July! I'm not sure whether to say this is my first or not — I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks in early August so technically my second pregnancy but if it sticks will be my first born. I can see a couple of others who are pregnant after loss — are you as scared as I am? I am doing my best to be excited too as I regretted not enjoying pregnancy much last time. Also just caught the dreaded cold going around so feeling rough and can't tell if my tiredness and nausea is from that or my pregnancy!

bestwisheskindregards · 27/10/2021 08:22

Welcome to the group @bagelcreamcheese @DawnWW @Trinxsy!

My boobs have stopped hurting today, which is making me worry. I think I'm 4+1 today and my boobs have been incredibly sore since 10dpo but has suddenly dropped off. Anyone else experienced this or experienced it with previous pregnancies?

Also - I was taking vitamin B6 prior to becoming pregnant to stop spotting in my luteal phase. First month of taking it, I got my BFP. Does anyone know if I should continue taking it, on top of Pregnacare?

ellecf · 27/10/2021 08:30

Hi ladies,

Hope you don't mind me joining! I'm 5 + 1 today eeek. Been trying since May 2020 but didn't have a period for a year. Combination of metformin and inofolic alpha seems to have done the trick. The only major symptoms I've had so far are cramps and my boobs are just starting to feel sore. Still can't quite believe I got a BFP, not sure when it will feel real. Also feel cautious that it's still really early eeek. Anyone else can't be bothered at all with work this week?!? How are you all feeling?

Xx

laurenGame · 27/10/2021 08:33

@bestwisheskindregards my boobs are still sore but my nausea and stomach cramps have gone completely 🤷‍♀️ are you having any other symptoms? From few other ladies sounds like it's normal to have little to no symptoms. I'd mention it to your dr though.

On vitamins my GP said continue to take pregnancy vitamin but she said I don't really need anything else. Similarly I got pregnant the month I started taking Cq10 so wasn't sure whether to stop now. I stopped and Just taking preg vitamin

I'm 4+1 today too. Planning to take a digital test on Friday to see if it's saying pregnant 2+ , so I would have progressed x

bestwisheskindregards · 27/10/2021 08:36

@laurenGame No other symptoms yet today. My symptoms up until now have been an increase in CM, tender boobs/sore nipples and some minor cramps. But I just feel normal this morning 🤷🏼‍♀️ hoping it's just fluctuations. I plan on taking another test once I hit 5 weeks too.

bestwisheskindregards · 27/10/2021 08:46

@ellecf Congratulations and welcome! Yes, I also can't be bothered with work! Finding it really hard to focus on anything else! I'd like to focus though as I could do with a distraction haha.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 27/10/2021 08:49

@ellecf I can’t focus on work either! Typical we’ve got major projects happening in the next 2-3 weeks that I need to be focused on and I just can’t seem to do anything apart from re-read “week 4 - what’s happening” on varying websites again and again and again

Anxiousnewbie · 27/10/2021 09:12

Hi everyone, congratulations to everyone on their BFPs!I got mine yesterday and I should be 4wks tomorrow and due date will be 7th July. No symptoms here!

This will be my first child. Been trying for 11 months and have irregular cycles from 45-75 days long so it's been a difficult journey. Had a MC in May so like others in the group I'm very nervous and apprehensive.

I've told myself I'm not going to download any pregnancy monitoring apps or book the midwife until I'm 6 weeks as it was devastating having to delete the apps and cancel scans and appts. Silly I know as it won't make any difference but I think I'm a little bit in denial at this stage!

Looking forward to having some company and great we are all due around the same time!

Cruz86 · 27/10/2021 09:17

Hello and congratulations to anyone who has recently joined! There's so many of us in here, I'm not gonna be able to keep up 😂

Thank you for your lovely words about my first birth experience @Effram and sorry to hear your first wasn't great either. What happened if you don't mind me asking?

My symptoms are very up and down. Keep squeezing my boobs because they don't seem to be as tender round the sides anymore and cramping has calmed down significantly, but I did have to run to the toilet after dinner last night and just heave! So I'm not sure what to think about it all!

@bestwisheskindregards I also started taking b-complex this cycle (even though my spotting didn't stop!) and I had slightly low b6 levels before TTC anyway. I'm going to keep taking mine, along with folic acid and vitamin d3.

Missy95 · 27/10/2021 09:31

Morning ladies. Ive had some pink bleeding this morning; bit like CM - similar to the light bleed I had before my BFP. I've messaged my midwife but I don't think she works on a Wednesday. Im not sure what to do and im worrying 😭

Cruz86 · 27/10/2021 09:40

Sorry to hear that @Missy95. If you had it before your bfp and you still got your positive, I'm sure there is nothing to worry about with this either! Perfectly okay to be worrying though, it's only natural. Do you have a central line for the midwife team? If not, how far along are you? Can you ring your gp and ask for a referral to epu? That's what mine said to do if my bleeding continued. Good luck, thinking of you. Keep us updated.

Missy95 · 27/10/2021 09:46

@Cruz86 I rang the midwife team and they said that it could just be an implantation bleed or some women have a sensitive cervix but they cant rule anything out. But basically ive to rest up, stay hydrated and and keep an eye on it as they wont take me for a scan until at least 6 weeks 🥺 xx

Cruz86 · 27/10/2021 10:04

Yes definitely rest @Missy95. Hopefully you don't get anymore than what you have. I think pink cm is more common than we think in early pregnancy, it's just everything getting used to the changes that are happening! Xx

i123i · 27/10/2021 10:17

Morning all, and welcome to all those who’ve just joined!

@Missy95 - sorry to hear about the bleeding. It could be fine, best to wait and see 🙏🏻

To those saying they don’t have many / any symptoms, I’m the same! Occasional mild cramp is the most frequent one for me. Although I did wake up with strong lower back pain on one side last night. Hopefully nothing bad. Feels more like a pulled muscle. Maybe that hormone relaxin already taking its toll!!

@HotToddyColdSauvignon - when you said “I just can’t seem to do anything apart from re-read “week 4 - what’s happening” on varying websites again and again and again”, I laughed! This was totally me for a couple of days but then you realise they all say the same and you don’t learn much more 😂

Getting better at concentrating at work compared to last week when I got my BFP, but I’m sure as I get closer to the booking in appointment date that concentration will lapse once again!!

i123i · 27/10/2021 10:21

@laurenGame and anyone else planning on checking progress via the Clearblue week checker test… I’m not sure this is the best idea as I’ve read various things saying it’s not accurate and can cause unnecessary worry if you’ve not “progressed” according to the levels in the test. Hgc ranges for woman are HUGE at this stage, and many people never get past 1-2 weeks, whereas some go straight to 3+ weeks.
Totally up to you of course! ❤️
I did 2 (one last week, one yesterday) and both said 1-2 weeks (I’m 4w+6 today) which obviously made me worry and do a LOT of googling!! But I’ve decided it’s best not to focus on this, so I’m not buying anymore!!

Elsols93 · 27/10/2021 10:44

@Missy95 try not to worry to much with my first I had light spotting/bleeding around the 5 week mark for about a day or so and all was fine ❤️

@HotToddyColdSauvignon haha I do that now with week 5 everything’s highlighted purple on google as iv clicked them all 😂

@i123i I was planning to do the digital tomorrow but I go away Friday and wouldn’t want to worry of it hadn’t changed from 2-3 so I’m going to check next Monday when home .

Boobs still sore bloating still bad and slight waves of nausea for me nothing that’s made me actually be sick or heave - 5 weeks 1 xxx

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 27/10/2021 11:04

Hugs @Missy95

Can your GP send you the number to a different district’s midwife maybe?, just so you can get some reassurance?

@Elsols93 yes!!! Everything is now highlighted purple and I've started looking at French pregnancy pages and Google translating them, just in case they say something different Grin

Absolute muppet….. (!)

jadeypies · 27/10/2021 11:28

Hi all, goodness there's a LOT to catch up on 😆

@Missy95 I'm sorry to hear you're spotting, I have no new advice to give you but thinking of you all the same.

@i123i I agree with you with regards to the clearblue digital 'progression'. I did 1 digital test in this pregnancy and it did say 3+ at 5 weeks but I've done no others so didn't exactly see progression 🤣 I think they can be very damaging.

@Anxiousnewbie welcome! I feel very similar to you as my last cycle was a loss, we are also pregnant with #1. I'm 5+5 and am also waiting for the 6 week mark to call the midwife etc. I have to say now that I'm only 2 days off from my mini target date I feel a lot calmer, so hopefully you will too 🥰 I think that while it's great finding out so early (I found out at 3+3) it is also is such an early stage that so much can go wrong at! I literally today have only just officially missed my period as I have long cycles so sort of wish I'd only just tested now 🤣

Effram · 27/10/2021 11:29

@Missy95 easier said than done but definitely try not to worry. It's so hard when just having to wait and see but I know so many people who've had random spotting and it's been completely fine, it can just be old blood. Lots of distractions for you today!

@i123i and @HotToddyColdSauvignon I've done exactly the same looking it up haha!

I don't know if this is helpful or not but there is a website that shows you the probability of having a successful pregnancy at each day you're at so you can see the percentage increase significantly at the beginning! I find it reassuring but I won't link it directly because I don't know if it might be less helpful for people depending on how they're feeling as everyone's different. I can message it or you can probably google it if anyone is interested.

@Cruz86 I just wrote a stupidly long reply that I can DM you but the tl;dr version is I had a very poor midwife who didn't listen to me at all and made me go against all my instincts. she didn't believe I was in labour (I was 10cm when she finally checked) she kept insisting I needed continuous monitoring (it wasn't indicated: at every check baby was fine) so she made me be on my back with legs in stirrups (my instinct was to be upright leaning over bed), told me to push in the wrong way (I gave myself horrendous piles) didn't remind me to go to the loo and so then catheterised me which was awful. Then said he was stuck / I wasn't progressing so I ended up with episiotomy and ventouse. and this was all in a room with all the lights on and people crashing in without knocking and shouting to each other. she talked to me during each contraction which took me out of my zone. With the power of hindsight I wish I had stood up for myself more but it's hard in such a vulnerable position! I truly believe if I had just been supported better, and on all 4s, I wouldn't have needed any intervention - he wasn't stuck, it was just a case of him going against gravity while I was super tense! I needed lots of stitches which meant another hour in stirrups and recovery was really long and painful. It really affected my bonding with him, I was too uncomfortable and in too much pain to hold him at first then he was whisked away to check in NICU when I was ready to hold him. The whole thing only took 3 hours start to finish but as it was also at 36 weeks I think I was in total shock as it was so unexpected!

Anyway, as I said before my second birth was the opposite. at home, in the dark, completely hands off except for encouraging guidance when I wanted it. I had a tiny tear which healed really quickly. I didn't even need gas and air and I didn't push at all, he pushed himself out. oh, and he was 11lb4! It was super fast though so I didn't make it into the pool I had made my husband laboriously fill! I credit a lot of this to the debrief as they admitted their errors and apologised which doesn't sound much but it gave me back my confidence in my instincts and my body.

Oops sorry even my short version is a bit unwieldy!

i123i · 27/10/2021 11:36

@Effram - I am so sorry to hear about that awful experience. Really glad you then had a wonderful second birth at home. Makes me so keen to push for it myself. I’ve actually just received this right now in the post (ordered it a couple of days ago):
The AIMS guide to Your Rights in Pregnancy.

Haven’t read it but think it helps woman make informed decisions... whether that be at home, in a labour ward or in a midwife led centre. Whatever option is chosen from these should be supported, and all are equally valid. ❤️

Due July 2022
Missy95 · 27/10/2021 11:45

Thank you for the reassurance ladies. Im resting up for the day and monitoring the bleeding. Xx
