@Effram I'm in Blackheath! I went to school in Dulwich some years ago...

Not sure I'd risk a home birth for my first..especially as in my own birth I was shoulder dystocia! Otherwise I can definitely see the draw Smile I generally try to avoid hospitals at all costs (including work...!). How many other DC do you have?

Elsols93 · 10/11/2021 09:14

Scan went really well saw such a strong heartbeat straight away baby is due day before my birthday !❤️ I feel a lot less stressed and happy xx

@laurenGame great news!!! So happy for you cxx

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 10/11/2021 09:17

@Elsols93 that's fantastic news Smile

AppleTree16 · 10/11/2021 09:25
@AppleTree16 it was the first thing GP advised me when I said I was going to ttc. She said 'no retinol' before she even said no alcohol and no smoking 😁

My 7 week scan went well today! After 8 days of bleeding, a trip to a&e, non-increasing hcg levels - baby has grown and the heart started beating 💗

Lady who did the scan said it's still unusual to bleed like this. And I'm still a bit nervous I haven't stopped spotting. But for now the baby is alive, and growing x
Really good news. Keep sticking in there little one.x

Effram · 10/11/2021 09:33

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou nooo - I'm in Greenwich!!! are you booked at QE?

This will be my 3rd. My first was planned home birth, but he came at 36 weeks. in hindsight I wish I had stayed at home though as I ended up with interventions I am certain I wouldn't have had at home. Even shoulder dystocia there is nothing extra they can do at hospital they can't do at home in terms of procedure, and I believe it's less likely at home as you're more likely to be in a more natural position! but I appreciate it is a bit scarier for sure, and the important thing is to be in whichever place you feel most comfortable and relaxed! Tbh I just could never imagine travelling whilst in labour, and had lots of friends who had had lovely home births which is what inspired me as it just seemed so 'normal' to me!

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 10/11/2021 09:39

@Effram how funny! My parents are in Greenwich, and I grew up there Smile. Many fond memories walking to primary school through greenwich park.

I've booked in at Tommy's because I had heard a few not-so-great things about QE... would you recommend? It would be far more convenient for me if it's actually decent!

I know what you mean about interventions. I'm terrified of them too! I guess having seen a few births go a bit wrong I feel reassured by the idea of an obstetrician / NICU close by... But then again home births do have good outcomes and would be far more relaxing! Gah, so hard to choose.

camvt · 10/11/2021 09:43

@laurenGame @Elsols93 really good news!! ❤️

Lucylulu1 · 10/11/2021 09:45

@laurenGame I'm so so happy for you! That's brill news!

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou this is my first, so I'm planning on a hospital birth, but I want to be in the birth centre rather than the delivery ward. The birth centre at my local hospital looks really nice on the pictures online. I want to go and have a tour and see what it's like in person (to make sure I'm happy), but I'm not sure if they will allow that.

Effram · 10/11/2021 09:49

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou awww!

I had my first at lewisham and personally wouldn't return there. I booked at QE for second as it was much more convenient for scans etc esp as it was during lockdown so we were at home all the time. I've had friends had babies at both and tbh everyone has had great things to say about labour care at both but mixed about both postnatally, which I think is the same everywhere - everywhere is just so short staffed. I just felt Tommys is a bit far to get to in labour if I did need to transfer (I have quick births). you do get great views from Tommys if you're on the postnatal ward though!

I really loved my antenatal midwife Emma from QE last time though I should admit we had actually had private midwives for delivery (because it was lockdown and I was concerned that home births might get cancelled/visiitors at hospital obv restricted/didn't want to be away from my eldest and I felt risk of covid etc higher in hospital than being safe at home!). I don't know how postnatal care works if you birth at Tommys, do they transfer you to QE community midwives?

My friend recommended to me to say you're interested in home birth as early as possible as it's easy to change your mind to move to birth centre/labour ward. it's not so easy to come back down. And often if you're under home birth team you get appts at home and better continuity of care - so something to consider!

CaptainCarp · 10/11/2021 10:32

@laurenGame @Elsols93 so glad you've both had good news this morning!

Chh0412 · 10/11/2021 11:12

So had my scan this morning.
Mixed emotions.
Can’t see anything on the scan so I’m either very early and my dates don’t match approx 4 weeks.
They are concerned it might be ectopic.
I’ve had bloods taken and they will ring today if the pregnancy isn’t viable.
If I don’t hear anything I have to go back on Friday for repeat bloods and then next Wednesday for another scan. X

Effram · 10/11/2021 11:20

oh @Chh0412 that sounds really challenging, not the reassurance you were hoping for. I have everything crossed for you and sending lots of love xx

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 10/11/2021 12:09

Sorry to hear that @Chh0412

How far along did you think you were? Fingers crossed for you Flowers

Elsols93 · 10/11/2021 12:14

@Chh0412 have all crossed for you ❤️ Xx

Cruz86 · 10/11/2021 13:08

It's so nice to hear we've got a mixture of us finding out and others keeping it a surprise! It really was amazing not finding out until birth with my first, so I would recommend doing it if you can! But I just feel like I need to be more prepared with everything this time round.

I can't believe you'll be finding out at 10-11 weeks @DrPrincessFluffyToYou! I've never heard of NIPT before?

Thanks so much @laurenGame @AppleTree16. Luckily I haven't been using the retinol since I found out I'm pregnant, but I'm now thinking I need to do a bit more research on the products I use!

Yes, my bloating is so bad @MrsG35. I'm already consciously choosing clothes to cover up because it's so obvious that I'm pregnant!!

Yay!! So happy to hear your scan went well @laurenGame ❤️ it's such a surreal feeling seeing the heart beat for the first time.

And you @Elsols93!! Such great news. What due date have they given you? And how many weeks are you today? Trying to remember if I need a transvaginal scan at this time with my son or if they'll be able to do belly ultrasound next week!

@beansprout55 sorry to hear you're still going through this. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with spotting/bleeding in pregnancy but take comfort in the fact that your scan was as expected and you saw the heartbeat! Let us know how you get on tomorrow. You may just be someone that bleeds a bit throughout pregnancy. Thinking of you.

Really sorry to hear that @Chh0412. How far along did you think you were? Hope things move in the right direction for you.

Just wanted to say this is what I sent through. My hcg just wasn't high enough yet so they rescanned when they predicted my hcg to be above 1500. If you have no abnormal pain or bleeding, try not to worry too much. When they found the sac mine was only 5.5mm X
annie1994 · 10/11/2021 13:34

Wooo great news @laurenGame and @Elsols93!

Thinking of you @Chh0412, fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Anyone else who already have children… how do you cope with the sickness and looking after them 😭 my partner had the last 2 days off to help so has been doing most of the looking after our DS. My mum has him today to help me out. I keep crying as I miss my little boy so much. Everyone says it’s only for a few weeks but a few weeks is a lot in my eyes. I think the hormones are making me a bit irrational but I just miss him. I had him for 2 hours this morning before my mum got to us and he was putting all his toys in my sick bowl (empty luckily). Crawling up to to me when I was sitting in front of toilet (I think he wanted to play with the toilet paper really!)

There is no point to this post really!!

Cruz86 · 10/11/2021 15:34

Oh no @annie1994! Luckily I haven't had bad sickness so it's been okay looking after my son (so far!!). The only issue is I get very tired easily. Really hope your sickness eases off soon.

Elsols93 · 10/11/2021 16:01

@Cruz86 well I thought I was 7w but I’m actually 6weeks 5 days so I’m due the 1st of July could clearly see straight away everything on belly I cried 😂 xxx

Theworkingmama · 10/11/2021 17:29

@Elsols93 you’ve got me excited! I think I’m 6 weeks Friday and have scan booked as I had CP last month and so anxious I’m really hoping to see something or hear something Friday to take away some of the anxiety!

Wolowl · 10/11/2021 17:44

I found out I was pregnant last week, just over 5wks now. Mainly feeling exhausted, very bloated, sick and achey. It's my first so not sure what to expect.

Wolowl · 10/11/2021 17:52

Also definitely feeling mostly worried and trying not to get too excited, we shall see how it goes!

JNGO21 · 10/11/2021 18:16

It’s so nice being here with all you other women going through the same thing. We’ve not really told anyone yet - got an early scan booked a week Saturday so will start telling people after that if all is well. I’m starting to feel like I want to share with close friends so I can talk to someone.. husband would prefer to wait if possible. We’ll see how it goes!

I’m feeling quiet constantly nauseous, lost appetite and a bit crampy but no major symptoms yet.
Can’t wait to see this little bean in me!
Hope everyone is doing alright… it’s going to be a long 8 months!!

dreamingofstars · 10/11/2021 18:53

@chitter87 thank you! Feeling okay so far. I vaguely remember being advised I would probably be consultant led for any future pregnancies due to the Pre e. Do you know any more on that?

Just catching up- hope everyone is well. With the Covid vaccine it’s personal choice-iv had both and the booster due to my work- AHP. Haven’t been able to get an app for the flu jab yet.

@laurenGame fingers crossed for you. I had spotting in my first pregnancy early on and then mid pregnancy and all was well. So hope is for you x

feliznavidad2 · 10/11/2021 19:02

Nausea has started with a vengeance this eve here. 😔 I'm 5+5 I think. And DS aged 4 sounds like he's coming down with a cold. Groan groan.

I agree, lovely to share with others in the same boat @JNGO21 is it your first?

Welcome @Wolowl 👋🏻

I think we'll be finding out what we're having @Cruz86 - I can't bear the suspense!
