@RadDarwazeh haha yes totally! We were both key workers TTC for a long time so deffo didn’t plan for start of the school year or COVID or anything like that! Im seeing midwife Thursday so will ask her how busy the local units are!

KHR1 · 08/09/2021 07:15

Dont know if it's the same everywhere but the problem where I am doesn't necessarily seem to be the number of women having babies but the staff shortages. Women are waiting days to get to labour ward for induction bay

FTEngineerM · 08/09/2021 10:04

I’ve got my head in the sand about that a bit @KHR1 I keep hearing that and I feel stressed at the thought of giving birth in the hallway or something 😂.

@NommyChompers birth plan is good to get us thinking about what pain relief we’d like but thats about it.

steph246 · 08/09/2021 11:01

Hi everyone!
Good luck with everything!!!

Just a question; I am 37 & 4 days I just wondered has anyone been experiencing SPD (I think that's what it is) when I roll over my pubic bone is cracking and is very sore and swollen, my hips are so sore so sleeping on my side is just awful at the moment.
I have been having period type cramping for a couple of weeks, but they seem to be getting stronger as the weeks go on and lower back pain.
All part of the wonderful pregnancy journey I know. Does anyone have any tips on how to ease the pain?
I sleep with a pillow between my legs - that doesn't seem to do anything.
Thankyou xxx

MrsTD88 · 08/09/2021 11:06

@D0nut Hopefully she holds out for a little while longer. Glad all went well at your appointment.

@Clouless what date have they gave you for your section? How are you feeling about it?

@NommyChompers my midwife said September is usually their busiest month because of Christmas/New Year babies.

I'm at the point that if one more person says to me "oh I know how you kept busy in lockdown" I'll lose it. We lost two babies last year and it took us so long to get to this point, if we'd had it our way this baby would have been here a long time ago but it is what it is. I hate the insensitive nature of some people though, they don't know the struggle to get to this point. They don't understand that this was our last shot because I just physically couldn't go through another loss. Because of that this will definitely be our last baby so I'm happy to hold off and be pregnant for another 12 days until c-section day.

NommyChompers · 08/09/2021 11:11

@MrsTD88 yeah it’s hard that people can be so casual about such a serious thing! But we are all here now and carrying babies ready to be born! Fantastic!

MrsTD88 · 08/09/2021 11:18

@NommyChompers I still can't believe it's due date month! Feel so lucky to be in this position ♥

unicornpower · 08/09/2021 12:09

@KHR1 yeah same here from what I’ve heard, it’s definite staff shortages that are the issue and lack of hospital space because of this. It’s annoying tbh as I’m due for induction tomorrow but I’ve heard how busy they are so I’m not holding out much hope that it’ll be plain sailing.

@MrsTD88 I’m sorry people keep saying that to you! Im getting annoyed as people keep going on about the whole Christmas baby thing which is obviously true but we lost a baby last June, so if we’d have had our way it would’ve been a February baby! People just don’t think sometimes.

MrsTD88 · 08/09/2021 12:21

@unicornpower it's so frustrating isn't it. It gets me really upset sometimes, probably not helped by the hormones at the moment as anything sets me off but still we shouldn't feel that way. Our first baby we lost last year would have been due in February too. Our daughter was born after two losses as will this baby, something about that gives me a weird sense of comfort.

CobleCloud · 08/09/2021 14:00

@MrsTD88 @unicornpower I feel the same as you with lockdown baby and Christmas comments, we too lost a baby in April last year in lockdown 1. I find it hard as people don't know each individual circumstance.

How's everyone coping in this heat? Just got back from the midwife she attempted a second sweep but couldn't quite get it, baby's head is super low though and she said all is heading in the right direction so hoping something happens soon!

@unicornpower hope they manage to get you in and start things tomorrow 🙂🤞🏻

MrsMcNtobe · 08/09/2021 14:32

@KHR1 totally agree about staff shortages, after 3 days induction I’m ready for labour ward to attempt to break waters and told it might be a 24 hour wait to get in there. There’s also women waiting for beds on my current ward

bewitchingnight · 08/09/2021 15:09

Back from my sweep an hour or so ago, for anyone waiting and worrying - I was really nervous and whilst it was quite uncomfortable (made me wince definitely) it was over very quickly and not as bad as I was expecting! Good news is I'm 1.5cm dilated and the midwife said she thought if I need to go for the induction on Monday it hopefully won't be too lengthy as she reckoned she could have broken my waters!

@MrsMcNtobe hope you get a bed soon, you've been waiting so long already!

Taybz · 08/09/2021 16:31

@steph246 I've been suffering from this since about week 35 but it's been getting worse. To be honest nothing has helped, not even the physio exercises. Thinking of you x

Ladies, re. Bed shortages and other hospital issues, just wondering whereabouts you are in the UK? Any Londoners here?

SP2Bx · 08/09/2021 17:37

That's great news @bewitchingnight ! What's the betting you won't be going for that induction on Monday?! 🙊

@MrsMcNtobe Oh no this is really dragging for you I hope you're not waiting too much longer!

Good luck for tomorrow @unicornpower, crossing everything that the other babies in your area stay put and you catch them on a quiet day!

From all you ladies' stories and other bits I've heard I'm feeling more happy with my decision to transfer to the home birth team every day. Very grateful that it's still up and running in my area and that I'm able to give it a go, as I know it's not an option for everyone.

Hope everyone has been OK in the heatwave! 🔥

Hopefulmummie · 08/09/2021 20:17

What a night/day... Ended up in admissions for 4 hours during the night with contraction pains.. Done internal and not dilating so was sent home but blood pressure was high although it came down again before I left . Had my growth scan and sweep today anyway so when they checked blood pressure it was really high again so consultant booked me in for induction ASAP and was being kept in due to risk of pre eclampsia. Went up to ward before they sorted induction and they took blood pressure again and it was back to normal so said no point inducing me for nothing and sent me home with blood pressure machine so have to check it every day and be reviewed on Friday.
Mental roller-coaster kind of day as I was preparing myself to be induced and baby come soon to then being sent home with nothing happening :(

Hopefulmummie · 08/09/2021 20:19

Plus I didn't even end up getting my sweep :( so disheartening

bewitchingnight · 08/09/2021 20:29

@SP2Bx oh I've got my fingers crossed 😁 very excited to hear about the home birth experience!

@Hopefulmummie oh poor you what a difficult day that sounds like such a rollercoaster

KH512 · 08/09/2021 20:41

Gosh I haven't been on here for a while, it's so exciting reading about all the little ones being born! Congratulations!!

I've been doing quite well recently but had a midwife appointment today (on my due date) my blood pressure was high, things noticed in my urine sample, baby is not in an optimal position and they couldn't do a sweep as my cervix is closed....just concerned I'm not going to be able to have a more natural labour that I was hoping for! But as long as baby arrives safely I guess it doesn't matter!

Suma2021 · 08/09/2021 22:07

Wow just catching up with all the latest posts - massive congratulations to all the new mums and hope everyone is coping in the heat!

Heyy @steph246, regarding SPD, can completely empathise as have been having the same thing (I'm now 38+1 weeks). Unfortunately rolling over in bed is just the worst, seems like a cruel joke when you've got to get up so many times to pee! Not much advice to give on that except take it slowly - if you're rolling over to the right side try to engage your left butt cheek! And vice versa. Sounds weird but I find sleeping on my side aches less if I'm mobile that day. My worst nights of pain have been when I lounged on the sofa during the day. Again, not easy when I just want to lie like a beached whale on the sofa in the heat Grin Try to make sure to change positions lots during the day if sitting down, try to sit upright too. Oh and I use an ice pack and paracetamol on bad days- ice pack in a towel between the legs just makes me feel better, plus is nice in the heat! I do sympathise though, hope you find what works for you to manage it Smile

@SP2Bx I feel like my baby isn't rushing to come out at all and I think I'm okay with waiting a bit longer (FTM and no complications). Don't feel guilty, I don't believe there's anything wrong with wanting to enjoy the last few weeks of quiet before one major life event. I'm just trying to chill and tell myself he'll arrive when he's supposed to. Maybe give me a week though and I'll change my mind Grin

Jary6 · 08/09/2021 22:46

I've read a lot about September being a really busy month. My nearly 2 yr daughter was born in October and the wards were so quiet and I was kind of hoping it would be the same.

However with Covid and September sounding busy it's one of my main concerns about the labour this time round. Im 37 + 5 and no sign of labour yet.

I've been trying to find out what the hospital im going to is like at the moment but can't seem to get any information. So im just going to put it out there, im going to St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey. If anyone knows about how busy they are I'd be super grateful to know 🙂

MrsTD88 · 09/09/2021 06:02

@CobleCloud sorry you've experienced this too.

@Hopefulmummie that is so frustrating!! How are you feeling about it now? Will you have a sweep on Friday when they review your BP?

primhutch · 09/09/2021 08:00

Morning everyone

41+1 today, 2nd sweep this morning - cross your fingers for me 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Hope everyone's survived the weather xx

RadDarwazeh · 09/09/2021 08:14

Morning @primhutch good luck for your sweep today!

Honestly I'm so grateful for the cooler weather this morning. Plan today is to rejig/repack my hospital bag as I found my maternity nighties from Asda I wanted to take woohoo! And a quick pop to do a food shop for Pizza Friday tomorrow 😊

Hoping those with pelvic pain feel a bit better soon 👍🏽

Hope everyone is ok? What are you all up to today?

PS I've officially begun maternity leave now too 💕

leftitlate37 · 09/09/2021 08:28

we r still navigating newborn life....bizarrely missing the hospital, felt like a proper comfort blanket and now feel so clueless. were rejoicing we had a sleepy baby, but turns out he just likes to sleep in the day...not at night haha.
make the most of time off on maternity leave, never know when these babies might come....!!!
did someone set up a thread for those whos babas have arrived? please could u share the link if so!!!

FTEngineerM · 09/09/2021 08:40

@leftitlate37 www.mumsnet.com/Talk/postnatal_clubs/4326386-Babies-due-September-2021

Cannot wait to join you all over there tbh 😬😬. Our 15m old needed a bottle and a cuddle back to sleep at 4:30am and I just loved it, maybe it’s hormones but I miss the cuddles and just listening to him breathe 🤭😂.
