Hi ladies. Starting our final thread! How exciting.

@bubbles1st do you have your latest list of due dates to add to here?

Thanks @primhutch that makes me feel a bit better! Hope the second one does the trick for you!

@Clouless hope you get a date soon, that's exciting to know it's next week but it would drive me crazy waiting to find out!

@MrsMcNtobe hope it's not too much longer for you!

CobleCloud · 07/09/2021 13:44

@NommyChompers I'm consultant led and have told them, I don't want to be induced.. so he requested my midwife attempt a first sweep at 38 weeks, had this last week and midwife gave it a go she said she wouldn't attempt anything if she could tell straight away it wasn't ready .. got my second one tomorrow. Hope this helps, I don't see a problem you asking for one now x

primhutch · 07/09/2021 14:04

@NommyChompers I think if you've had a fairly straight forward pregnancy and aren't high risk then sweeps start at 40 weeks and induction 10 days after due date

MrsMcNtobe · 07/09/2021 14:33

@bewitchingnight thank you! Was told this morning cervix was soft but still long and hard and was told just there it’s soft but she can just reach it with a finger but it’s still hard. I’m really hoping that’s a little bit of progress 🤞🏼
Back to the birthing ball for the rest of the day!

SP2Bx · 07/09/2021 14:44

@NommyChompers .. Not sure if it's the same everywhere but a midwife told me the other day you only get offered 2 sweeps (completely uncomplicated pregnancy here) and so wouldn't recommend as a FTM having the first one until at least 41 weeks as you don't want to waste them not being anywhere near ready as they'll only really work if your body has begun the process anyway!

I'm 38 weeks tomorrow and feeling uncomfortable but definitely not at the eviction stage yet... appears I'm the only one here happy to wait 😂

Clouless · 07/09/2021 16:10

@SP2Bx haha no I'm ok to wait a bit too! 😊

D0nut · 07/09/2021 16:23

@SP2Bx I’m happy to wait too! I have a c-section booked for 20th but I would like all the days in between now and then if possible.

MrsMcNtobe · 07/09/2021 16:36

@bewitchingnight
that actually made no sense... the cervix problem is that it’s closed not hard 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

SP2Bx · 07/09/2021 16:38

Good to know @Clouless & @D0nut - I was feeling like a terrible person for being happy for them to take their time 🙈 but I do keep having little panics about life never being the same! I mean I know I'll love the little human with every ounce of my being when they're here, it's just pretty daunting that it's so close now!

Clouless · 07/09/2021 16:44

Yes totally agree. I'm happy to delay the whole life-changing-forever thing 🤣 (although it will obviously be the best thing ever to meet them!)

The hospital have just rung with an appointment for my section now. It's a day after my due date so might have to just sit with my legs crossed for 2 weeks!

bewitchingnight · 07/09/2021 16:45

@MrsMcNtobe sounds like small steps in the right direction, have you been in hospital the whole time? You're being an absolute trooper either way! My induction is booked for Monday so I am quite intrigued as to what the midwife will say at my sweep tomorrow, not sure whether anything is likely to have started yet.

Taybz · 07/09/2021 16:56

@MrsMcNtobe that sounds like quite the ordeal. Hope it gets easier for you and that your little one makes an appearance soon!

@FTEngineerM I love your honesty 😅 I hope I get someone skilled then and that it won't be such a horror.

SP2Bx · 07/09/2021 17:03

Exciting to have a date though @Clouless !

@MrsMcNtobe Really hoping something starts happening for you soon! Can't imagine how frustrating that must be, hang on in there, baby will be here before you know it :)

NommyChompers · 07/09/2021 17:15

Thanks for the responses guys - I’ll get OH to have a look at the cervix and see if it will be a waste of time! (He’s a doc so will at least be able to say closed or not). Hoping for all those of us still waiting this heat passes soon!

NommyChompers · 07/09/2021 17:17

I’ve been watching OneBorn and getting myself all panicked which is why I just want it over with now - I would not recommend to anyone that has resisted the urge until this point!

Mamabearwhere · 07/09/2021 17:30

@NommyChompers ooh def stay away from born every minute! That show is so stressful! I’ve been watching lots of positive birth stories on YouTube which has been nice to hear and take away some fear and anxiety!

24 hours until to go until this heatwave is over!!

OP posts:
RadDarwazeh · 07/09/2021 18:54

This heatwave is something else. It's hot hot hot!

Regarding sweeps - mine is booked ten days before due date. The midwife said for first time mamas the first sweep is unlikely to work anyways but be prepared either way. I think she did it as it's trust policy but also don't want to go over as don't want a humungous baby/less likelihood of induction/intervention with forceps and ventouse as they are more likely to be used if I go over.

So now with my sweep on the 15th September, I've massively stepped up my nesting !

FTEngineerM · 07/09/2021 19:04

@NommyChompers I’m addicted to that show, I can’t help it, every other time in my life I’m like ‘nope don’t watch it it’s awful seeing what can happen’ then the run up to birth I can’t keep my eyes off it🤭. Maybe it’s hormones I don’t know, I either cry when the babies born or wince when it all goes wrong.

SP2Bx · 07/09/2021 19:06

That seems crazy @RadDarwazeh ! Offering a sweep 10 days early as standard policy? Passing your due date doesn't necessarily mean any of those things unless you know baby is big already or something? What if the EDD is just wrong? They're so inaccurate as there's soooo many contributing factors! I'm really trying to think of my due date as a "due from" date because it'll be a long ol' slog otherwise! 🙈

FTEngineerM · 07/09/2021 19:07

That’s a good way of thinking about it @SP2Bx 😍.

SillyBry · 07/09/2021 20:20

@RadDarwazeh wow, that’s really early for a sweep! I’m on my second and I get an optional first sweep at 40+4 (my next appt.)
I would say try not to worry about big babies being hard to deliver/causing damage… I had an 8lb3oz baby with no interventions… I think it more depends on how your body is dealing with the labour rather than the size of baby! 😊

MrsMcNtobe · 07/09/2021 20:27

@bewitchingnight because of reduced movements they won’t let me home so yeah having to stay in the full time 😭

@SP2Bx I’ve been having what seems like contractions mostly in my back but front too, they’ve given me painkillers and a heat back and I was due monitoring and a check up a while ago but they’re just so busy that everything’s taking forever 😕 x

RadDarwazeh · 07/09/2021 21:34

Yeah I'm not sure if it's policy now. But I will say look of it doesn't look ready then don't bother with it. I'll wait. Thanks for the advice, girls xx

NommyChompers · 07/09/2021 22:05

@FTEngineerM the issue I have with one born is just the overwhelming impression that it’s ‘what midwife says goes’ - you NEVER see any positive reaction to a simple request from a mum. It’s been useful though - I’ve torn up the birth plan and just lowered my expectations of maternity care A LOT which is actually making me calmer.

Is September this year really that busy? COVID baby boom?

RadDarwazeh · 07/09/2021 22:28

@NommyChompers yeah everyone has said to me "lockdown baby" when in reality we both worked through it as key workers and we ttc after talking and when we were ready to. I think September is busy month anyway coz of Xmas perhaps!
