Congrats to those whose babies have already arrived - hope they are all doing well!

Just wondering if anyone has been experiencing any period-type pain? I started having some this morning - I wouldn't say it's painful, just a dull ache, the sort I would usually get just before my period is about to start. I'm only 35 weeks so hoping it's pretty normal and not a sign of labour starting but as a FTM I don't really know what to expect! My stomach doesn't feel tight so don't think its BH.

Kat1112025 · 16/08/2021 16:12

@showmorekindness I'm a first time mum too, and my contractions started as just a dull period ache, and backache. At no point in labour did my belly harden and they couldn't find the contractions on their monitor as they were mainly in my back.

I didn't have (or didn't notice) Braxton Hicks during my pregnancy at all.

If it is contractions you will soon know! Hopefully it isn't. My midwife said if you aren't sure have a warm bath, if it goes away it's just Braxton Hicks.

Kat1112025 · 16/08/2021 16:14

@Bubbles1st we have a name! Eddie (short for Edward). 💙

We'll call him Eddie, but if we wants to be Ed/Edward/Ted etc. when he's older then we love all of those too.

JasVL · 16/08/2021 16:17

Congratulations to everyone who’s babies are already here! So crazy how quickly it’s all come around. I’ve been following for the last few threads but seem to have dropped off of this new list! I’m due 12th September with a surprise💛

@showmorekindness I’m 36 weeks now and have also been having period pains for the last week or so! It comes and goes and isn’t every day, but every little twinge I’m now starting to think if this is it!

Also anyone that’s been suffering with acid - the only thing I’ve recently found that works for me is love hearts sweets!!

On our way to our final growth scan at the moment and can’t believe that the next time we go back to the hospital will more than likely be to have our baby!

Bubbles1st · 16/08/2021 16:49

Thanks @Kat1112025 ! @Sillysocks998 do you have a name yet and I'll update the list with your new arrivals !

Sillysocks998 · 16/08/2021 17:12

Hi @Bubbles1st, nothing official but I'll keep you posted. Still in hospital at the moment too. So far 11th August and a boy 🙏😘

GWhiteley · 16/08/2021 17:19

Ok last question for a while I promise! Is it ok to have a bag for me & a bag for the baby? I can't fit both lots of stuff in just the one bag! 😩 Because I don't know what size she's going to be I've packed 2 different sizes of vests & baby grows, plus a days worth of nappies, baby wipes, muslins, a blanket & going home outfit with hat & mittens but just can't squeeze it all in along with my stuff as well!

unicornpower · 16/08/2021 17:29

@GWhiteley I have a bag for me and bag for baby! I couldn't have fitted everything in one either, just need to pack snacks now Smile how many nappies have you packed? I've packed 10 but not sure if that's enough? I figured my husband can pop home if we need more or of we are kept in longer?

@showmorekindness I've been having period like pains for a few days now too, it's not intense but sometimes I wonder if it's all starting? It goes away though so I don't think they are anything! I'm 35 weeks now so who knows?!

D0nut · 16/08/2021 17:30

Hi everyone. Does anyone have any swelling? I’ve regularly had swollen ankles and a few times slightly swollen fingers where I can’t get my ring off when it’s been really hot… but the last few days I feel like my fingers are noticeably swollen. My hands so slim normally that I think it’s hard to spot but they feel uncomfortable if I try to make a fist and picking up very small things feels so strange. Does anyone else have this? I worried about preeclampsia but I don’t seem to have any other symptoms right now (blood pressure seems ok when I measured at home today, still slightly elevated but it has been through pregnancy)

showmorekindness · 16/08/2021 17:34

Thanks everyone

@Kat1112025 @JasVL @unicornpower did / have you contacted your midwife / triage about them? It so, did they want to see you or do anything?

GWhiteley · 16/08/2021 17:39

@unicornpower phew! Feel much happier now I know I'm not the only one! I've packed 15, as I think that was the maximum the midwife said baby would need changing on the breastfeeding webinar I watched.
I too have yet to pack snacks.
My husband is away for the next 3 days & although I'd like her to stay in until at least the 1st sept, ive brought my semi packed hospital bag downstairs just as a precaution!

crobo87 · 16/08/2021 18:32

@D0nut I have swollen ankles, mainly when I've been in my feet a lot or it's warm.
It's worth getting any swelling checked out though as it can be a sign of pre-eclampsia. X

deedeebythesea · 16/08/2021 19:01

Girls 😭 I am pretty sure the little man has turned and is now breech. At my 36w appt the MW says he was 3/5, head down and showed me how to feel for his back. She also assured me he won’t be able to change position until the D Day. Well, he is back is no longer where it was and the kicking pattern has totally changed. If I am right, I will insist on EVC (two if needed) and keep everything crossed he stops being naughty. But I am literally in tears. 38w appt in on Friday. Won’t know for sure until then I suppose

Noodles4Me · 16/08/2021 19:13

@GWhiteley I'm taking a suitcase so it can have both mine and the baby's stuff. I've got little baby and big baby clothes too. I'm hoping only a 1 night stay but packed as if for 2.

Just need to pack snacks, chargers, earphones etc. Can't believe only 3 more days to wait (all being well). I am absolutely shattered.

JasVL · 16/08/2021 19:17

@showmorekindness haven't spoken to the midwife about it yet but I'm seeing her tomorrow so will mention it!

Just got home from the growth scan. Baby has been measuring under the 50th percentile the whole way through.. until today and baby is now measuring off the chart! Had to see the consultant straight after and they want to repeat the glucose test just in case but they also want to do another scan then will decide what the plan is.

If baby is still big they'll more than likely induce!

Trying to process it all, has anyone had anything similar?

Squibble84 · 16/08/2021 19:35

@deedeebythesea it could be that your baby has just turned around so that they’re back is to your back and they’re facing your belly. Pretty sure mine has done this a few times as the kicking pattern changes. It’s not the most ideal position as it can cause lots of back labour (I had this last time!) but it’s not an issue like a breech/transverse position is.

Squibble84 · 16/08/2021 19:38

@deedeebythesea I’ve been trying to do some of these every evening to encourage baby into the best position as I’d like to avoid a back-to-back baby this time around!

www.nct.org.uk/labour-birth/getting-ready-for-birth/tips-how-get-your-back-back-baby-position-for-birth

KHR1 · 16/08/2021 19:39

@GWhiteley I've got a small wheelie case for me and a backpack for baby. I've also got a small bag of drinks and snacks.

@deedeebythesea fingers crossed baby isn't breech for you! I had an ECV with DC1. So she's trying to keep track of their position, constantly worry baby has moved.

@JasVL baby was measuring 90th percentile on my last scan and the consultant said she won't be letting me go very overdue, he was measuring 7lb 4oz at my 36 week scan. Got an appointment at 40 weeks to discuss induction. I've heard quite a few stories of baby sizes being way overestimated towards the end though and being born at 50th percentile though

Jay3004 · 16/08/2021 20:39

After much toing and froing from the doctors I’m booked in for a section tomorrow morning. Baby will be 34+6 and I’ve had 2 doses of steroids so hoping all is okay🤞🏻

KHR1 · 16/08/2021 20:42

Hope all goes well for you and baby @Jay3004

JasVL · 16/08/2021 20:42

@KHR1 oh really! Yes I've been googling and have seen some that were induced but ended up having 6lb babies in the end.

The sonographer did put on the notes that the estimated weight can be +/- 20% when it comes to later scans, but I think they have to do that just to cover themselves?

@GWhiteley I've got 2 small hold-all's, one for me and one for baby. Thinking of also taking a rucksack with extra bits in to leave in the car just in case

AdventuresAwait · 16/08/2021 20:48

All the best for tomorrow @Jay3004 xx

Bubbles1st · 16/08/2021 21:02

Thinking of you @Jay3004 hope all goes well and great news you've got both lots of steroids in

Thank you @crobo87. I’m going to call in the morning. Although it seems much better this eve.

Good luck @Jay3004!
