Hi everyone! Thanks for the new thread

@Taybz I'm gonna request a water birth. I love being in water and bath and it's super relaxing for me. But also aware there might not be availability on the day so keeping my options open!

I love getting bits sorted for the hospital bag. I am a sucker for miniature toiletries. I tend to do two bags - "wet" bathroom bits and then "dry" after like moisturiser, make up remover, toner, cotton. This time I'll have a third for Baba!

AdventuresAwait · 29/07/2021 21:10

@FTEngineerM I've packed baby's bag and my hospital bag. Packed for 3 nights as I'm having a c-section. I know a lot of hospitals discharge the next day but I've got Gestational Diabetes so I don't know if baby will need help after birth and may need to stay in.

Poppins2016 · 29/07/2021 21:13

Thanks Bubbles!

I went quiet during the last thread (lots going on) but have been thinking of you all!

I'm also thinking I need to pack my hospital bag... I've been procrastinating!

Suma2021 · 29/07/2021 21:14

@Taybz I was planning a water birth, but then tonight I had a bath for the first time in years and remembered how much I hate the heat, it just makes me feel a bit weird and faint sitting in the water for more than 10 minutes. I think I'll struggle in a birth pool especially if it's true they need the water to be a certain heat. Heard such good things about the water helping make things less uncomfortable though, so I still want to give it a go.

Squibble84 · 29/07/2021 21:18

@Taybz I would love a water birth and thought I’d be able to have one but apparently due to my low Papp-a, I’ll have to have the straps on to monitor the baby’s heart rate constantly so no water birth for me! I’m a bit gutted as I had to be monitored constantly last time and it does restrict your movement somewhat as you’re attached to a machine the whole time!

Kirky658 · 29/07/2021 21:21

I'm also keen to have a water birth as I find being in the water very relaxing and it helps calm my anxiety when I'm in the bath. Apparently even though I need the antibiotic drip I should still be able to have one. I know our hospital gets incredibly busy though so won't count my chickens in case I can't have one. My hospital bags are virtually packed, little cabin bag suitcase for me and I've packed baby's bits in her changing backpack - good to see it all fits in the changing bag, must be a good buy lol! I just need to add a few bits of clothes for me to my bag then I'm sorted.

By the way - I was recommended a breast milk collector by a company called Hakkaa by the antenatal classes - but she said you can get them much cheaper at Aldi. They've got a baby event on at the min and I got one for £1.49 today!!!!! Bargain

SillyBry · 29/07/2021 21:28

@FTEngineerM work is starting to bug me too! I’m trying to pull stuff together her for a project and no one is putting any effort into providing the info for me. I’m like “guys, I have 3 weeks left. If you don’t give me the details, it’s not going to get done!” They want the stuff compiled - they’ve been asking for it. So I’m like well if it’s not done, it’s not really any skin off my nose!

I’ve got a few bits to build from the attic this week. Going to order new mattresses next week (waiting on in laws giving me the crib to measure!) and wash the baby clothes we’ll use in the first week.

Then I’ve told myself that my bag needs packing by 37 weeks… so I’ve got a few weeks left to finish that off at least 😉

SillyBry · 29/07/2021 21:37

@Kirky658 epic work on the Hakka… they are really easy to use and for that price, who cares if you rarely use it!!
My midwife appointment is right by Aldi tomorrow, so I might pop in and see if I can get a bargain!

I hoped for a water birth last time, but never got in the water. To be honest, I didn’t miss it… but I’d still like to use it this time. Like you, they only have limited tubs, so it’s just playing it by ear.
I mean, the maternity rooms have baths in the toilet… that’s the same right?! 🤣

FTEngineerM · 29/07/2021 21:48

Thanks everyone ❤️Fab ideas and loads of things I’ve forgotten my list just keeps getting bigger, breast pads eeek totally forgot those!!!

@Taybz I’m planning on going in the birthpool in the alongside mlu, pretty much how I started last time. It definitely helped in some respects but I found standing and swaying also super good for pain relief (and gas and air obvz). You can get in and out as you please so I’d deffo recommend if it’s an option.

@SillyBry that sounds shit, but totally not your problem soon just make a point of getting it in an email or something that they aren’t giving you the info😂. The person they took on whilst I was on mat leave is an arse hole who, whenever I bring him up on anything, tells me I’m hormonal. It gives me the absolute rage. Don’t refuse to join in the call and refuse to come to the office then have a rant about communication……..

Kirky658 · 29/07/2021 22:10

@sillybry I love a good bargain! If it's any consolation my work are massively screwing me over. They originally said they weren't covering my area of the country while I was off. Now my work bestie is having my area, she is upset as she's losing her area to someone else. Which leaves me with no area when (if) I come back. I asked if I'd be made redundant or what happens and got told they'd deal with it when I get back... So lots of worrying about what the hell happens when I get back. I've switched right off now tbh, I have one more week then I'm done, off next week and finish the week after. More important stuff to think about now!

Now begins the lovely nighttime ritual of trying to get comfy, then being too hot, then waking every 2 hours to pee. Joy!!!!

MrsTD88 · 29/07/2021 22:16

@FTEngineerM I went crazy yesterday and ordered everything off of my list so I can start packing. Boots have lots of travel sized toiletries and I love the body shop mini shampoo, conditioners and shower gels. I went for the almond, milk and honey one as it is gentle and a subtle scent.

I have lots of reusable waterproof zip lock bags so I can put outfits in them then swap out with dirty stuff. Will be in for at least 2 days as having c section and last time baby had so many poo explosions 🙈

Although a friend had her baby yesterday 3 weeks early... I don't know why but keep forgetting babies can come early 🤣

@SillyBry my work have pushed me to the point of not caring now. Lack of communication is unbelievable. I am off next week then only have 3 weeks left to work afterwards, my cover starts that third week so will be doing handovers. I'll be amazed if she's still there when I return though 😬

deedeebythesea · 29/07/2021 22:51

@MrsTD88 @KHR1 @AdventuresAwait thank you all for explaining what health visitors are for
Mine had to reschedule to tomorrow. And looks like it is going to be a video call anyway. Got the red book in the post last week, alongside a tote bag, baby books and some leaflets..

Hopefulmummie · 29/07/2021 22:58

Thank you @Bubbles1st

It's crazy that some babies could start coming in the next few weeks!

Hospital bag packed and probably have overpacked but better being organised

SillyBry · 29/07/2021 23:00

@MrsTD88 @Kirky658 @FTEngineerM
I’m sorry to hear work is as frustrating for everyone!!
I finish on august 20th… I don’t even know if my replacement is in place yet. I’ve had this week off and they were interviewing final candidates. But apparently I’m not in a “need to know” position in terms of negotiations! 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️
I’ve been asked to go into the office on Tuesday to clear my desk (it was last used in March 2020!) and they are moving to a flexi-desk working arrangement so I’m not allowed to leave all my junk at work anymore! I don’t mind as the office will be very quiet - and it will be nice to see a couple of people before I finish… but in order to go in, I have to do a COVID safety session and an office orientation session. I mean, I love they are cautious… but it’s all for me being there for one blinking day!!

Lumay92 · 30/07/2021 00:05

Thanks @Bubbles1st :-)

@Squibble84 ahh how exciting!! Is it your first and do you have any feelings about whether they might be early or late?

A friend of mine had their little one a month early this week and it kicked me in to gear - Iv been out and bought as much stuff as I can for the hospital bag so feeling a little more prepared then before! Still need to decorate the nursery though, anyone else still have this on their list of things to do?!!

Mrsserenalewis · 30/07/2021 07:43

At what week did everyone set up their cots and prams x

unicornpower · 30/07/2021 07:58

I dont know if its any help but I heard that it's good to pack your hospital bag and then unpack it and get your husband/partner to repack it so they know where everything is...... I would say it sounds a great idea but my husband will definitely forget haha

@Mrsserenalewis we set up our cot yesterday and the next2me will be arriving soon so that will be set up too. Our pram we've already set up and dismantled but it's ready to go! Just need to fit the car seat Smile I'm 32 weeks but super paranoid she'll be early haha

SP2Bx · 30/07/2021 08:04

@MrsTD88 we have the same time left at work! I too am off next week then have 3 weeks left once I go back... counting the daysssss!

I'm putting a water birth as my preference but of the 6 birthing suites in my alongside MLU I know only 2 have pools so not getting my hopes up! Is anyone else hypnobirthing? I'm loving it, and have so much more on my list to pack because of it 😅 fairy lights, essential oils, affirmation cards, speaker, SNACKS!

@Mrsserenalewis Main cot in the nursery is built, but think we'll do the next to me crib and pram/car seat around 36 weeks... I'm itching to do them now but know they'll just be in the way!

AdventuresAwait · 30/07/2021 08:27

@Mrsserenalewis, pram was bought and up at 12 weeks and the crib at about 28 weeks xx

Noodles4Me · 30/07/2021 08:37

You are all organised. I'm not setting anything up or packing until the weekend before my ELCS.

I'm getting itching mainly in the crotch and only at night. Paranoid it's cholestasis of pregnancy now Sad It's so uncomfortable and sleep deprivation is the norm now, before the baby is here Confused

Kirky658 · 30/07/2021 09:03

@mrsserenalewis we did our cot about 30 weeks just so there wasn't boxes lying round everywhere. Pram is at my parents house, but car seat is in the car set up and ready to go. As we are going away this week I've packed my hospital bags to go in the car just in case 😬

Taybz · 30/07/2021 09:38

Great to hear so many of you are considering or choosing water births! My midwife finally stepped up and gave me quite a bit of information about it and it sounded like a good option.

Sorry to hear about some of your work woes, can't believe that work can be such arses to you at this stage in your pregnancy! I'm on maternity now and it's made such a difference although I do miss it already.

Taybz · 30/07/2021 09:43

@Mrsserenalewis we were hoping to do it this week but it's our anniversary weekend so it's been moved to next week.

@Lumay92 we haven't even started on the nursery!! Starting to freak me out now but the nursery is technically our 2nd bedroom/office and there's already quite a bit of furniture there. Really need design inspiration for it.

For those how have built their cots, how hard was the assembly and roughly how long did it take? We got one of those 3 in 1 cots and tbh hubby is a bit hopeless at assembling and I'm just exhausted 😅

marshmallowmode · 30/07/2021 10:10

@Mrsserenalewis We built our cot in the nursery a few weeks ago and we got the pram out and put it together a few weeks back as well. Mainly because I wanted to check it was all good before the returns window passed! We've bought the bedside crib and I'll open the box this weekend to check we have all the parts but not going to assemble it until much closer to birth as we don't have the space.

Allicit · 30/07/2021 11:05

@SP2Bx yes! Also plannning a water birth and hypnobirthing. My god the positive birth company digital pack has been such a lifesaver but I’m having exactly the same problem with packing! I have soooo much extra crap I don’t want to look mental turning up at hospital with enough baggage to be a kardashian Blush
