Oh gosh congratulations @Kat1112025! 🎉Sounds like he must be doing really well to be out of NICU already. Your due date is the same as mine so that's really given me a kick to get myself ready just in case 😮

Kat1112025 · 12/08/2021 07:24

@marshmallowmode yep we were not prepared at all, thought we had another couple of months!

They've haven't found a reason for it yet, no obvious issues with me (blood pressure fine, no infection, placenta looking good) no issues with him (movements heart rate all good, no infection). I just spontaneously went into labour 7 weeks early.

He is doing really well, and being very well taken care of. Because my labour was uncomplicated I was discharged on Monday, the hardest thing is going home without him each night, but I know he's in good hands.

AdventuresAwait · 12/08/2021 07:42

Congratulations on the birth of your little boy @Kat1112025! What a surprise early arrival for you & sorry it must be difficult to go home every night, but so glad he's doing really well & is being so well looked after. Congratulations again! xx

SP2Bx · 12/08/2021 07:55

Oh wow @Kat1112025 - congratulations! 💙 Glad to hear you're both doing well. Little guy clearly just couldn't wait to meet you ☺️ It must be so difficult leaving every day (I didn't know they did that - can you stay all day?!) but imagine how amazing it's going to feel the day you get to take him home 🥰 x

deedeebythesea · 12/08/2021 08:21

@Kat1112025 what an amazing surprise! And what a strong little boy you have got there - 7 weeks early and already out of NICU! Congratulations!!! Won’t be long until he will be going home with you ❤️

deedeebythesea · 12/08/2021 08:25

Gosh. I am now panicking a little bit. Two little ones and both early. Not worried about the prep - feels like DH and I have got everything ready for this arrival... However, I am still in the midst of my handover. Work has been so rubbish lately and I don’t particularly like my mat cover. Mat leave starts on 23rd but I was hoping to take a back seat next Monday and just observe/offer assistance when needed. Doesn’t look like I will be able to do that. And what if baby decides tomorrow is a perfect day to meet his mama & dada??

crobo87 · 12/08/2021 08:40

Congratulations @Kat1112025
Pleased to hear you are both doing well xx

Kat1112025 · 12/08/2021 08:41

@SP2Bx the ward is open 24hrs for one parent (one at a time due to Covid rules). But it's just a chair by his cot, so at some point you need to go home to sleep and shower.

The first night leaving was really hard, but you have so much to do: eat, sleep express, pack bag for the next day. That you're on your way back before you have time to overthink it.

MrsTD88 · 12/08/2021 08:41

@marshmallowmode same due date here too!

Congratulations @Kat1112025 💙 does baby have a name yet? 😘

@deedeebythesea I am feeling quite panicked too! I follow an October group as my daughter was so late and there has already been 1 very early labour and 1 about to be induced due to complications! Not due to finish work until end of the month but been told to prepare a handover for the end of this week just in case and not to take on anything new. My cover doesn't start until 23 August!

Kat1112025 · 12/08/2021 08:44

@deedeebythesea I was so worried about sorting mat leave cover, handover etc. They don't start for a few weeks so they'll be no handover and honestly I do not care.

If your baby comes early (which I really hope they don't!🤞) You won't give a flying fig what is happening at work. I wish I'd stressed less about that stuff because when it came down to it I didn't matter.

Kat1112025 · 12/08/2021 08:45

He's still unnamed, took us by surprise too soon!

Kat1112025 · 12/08/2021 08:46

Ugh just rereading these and my grammar is so awful. I'm usually better than this, just very tired 😴

Bubbles1st · 12/08/2021 08:49

@Kat1112025 congratulations on your little boy, pleased to hear he is doing well
Despite being so early.

Hope you're doing well and when you have a name if you let us know what day he was born I'll add him to the list if that's ok?
💙

unicornpower · 12/08/2021 09:04

@Kat1112025 oh wow! how amazing! i'm so thrilled hes okay and thriving-How are you feeling? Such lovely news xx

FTEngineerM · 12/08/2021 09:10

Congratulations @Kat1112025 that’s super good news they’re out of NICU, hopefully home soon with you.

Definitely put a rocket up my butt with all the baby prep.

deedeebythesea · 12/08/2021 09:46

@Kat1112025 you are absolutely right! It won’t matter in the slightest when the baby is here. Set myself a goal to tie all the loose ends by the end of Friday. Need to refocus my attention on getting mental prepare for the birth!

My friend had her daughter at 32 weeks and just like you had to leave her in the hospital to go home to sleep/rest/shower. I remember her saying it was tough but you are so busy that the time flies and before you know it, the baby is coming home with you. Hopefully it won’t be long until your little man gets to see his new home!

@MrsTD88 due in October but already had a baby?! Wow. But do not worry! We’ve got this. This morning I sat down and made a list of THE most important jobs I need to finalise before I leave. The rest can be completed by my assistant if need be. I won’t take on any new work even though I am been pressured to do so. My handover notes are pretty fool proof. Besides, when I take this job, there was no handover whatsoever. The role has vacant for over a year. And I managed to learn everything by myself. If my mat cover needs further guidance etc., they can always go to the line manager and ask for help.

I have definitely been overthinking this whole process up until this morning. Glad the arrival of our first two babies in the group helped change my perspective Xx

Kat1112025 · 12/08/2021 10:00

@Bubblest1st born on 8th August at 4lb7oz

I'll update on name once we know 💙

Hopefulmummie · 12/08/2021 10:02

@Kat1112025 aww congratulations. Glad he is doing well hope you will have him home with you soon

Bubbles1st · 12/08/2021 10:08

Is anyone else on blood thinning injections getting more reluctant to take them? I take them in the morning and that gives me a 12 hour window where I wouldn't be able to have an epidural either in labour or if I needed a c section. Yesterday I had so many braxton hicks and back ache and belly ache it really made me wonder what risk is greatest to me at the moment, blood clot or missing out on babies birth, if I had to go under for c section I would be devastated.

Question for the consultant Monday I think. 36 weeks tomorrow so really could be anytime now....

OP posts:
FTEngineerM · 12/08/2021 10:22

That sounds tough. I’m not on them @Bubbles1st but is it the same case for a spinal? It’s the same location, in the back, but it’s a different medication to epidural. Or is it that they couldn’t get the needle in the spine at all if you’ve had the blood thinners?

Bubbles1st · 12/08/2021 10:28

@FTEngineerM it's the actual process and
Location I'm led to believe which can result in a bleed which could lead to paralysis....

MrsTD88 · 12/08/2021 10:43

@deedeebythesea it really makes you think and put things in perspective doesn't it. The lady in the October group has urged everyone to pack a bag as it is never too early to be prepared. I've now packed mine and baby's bags, just need to put some clothes in and put the car seat in the car.

FTEngineerM · 12/08/2021 11:08

Oh wow I see the problem, that’s pretty worrying. Yeah your consultant will be able to help you weight it up, I hope this week flies by for you.

SillyBry · 12/08/2021 11:21

@Kat1112025 awww congratulations to you! I'm glad you and baby are doing well... what a shock for you, but very pleased that everything is progressing well for you.
Try and look after yourself whilst baby is still in hospital... you need your rest too :-)

My friend has 5 children... all born before 35 weeks. One at 29 weeks! They range between 1 and 11 in age now and are all so perfectly developed/sized etc. You really wouldn't know that they were little premmie babies anymore!

I would agree that once baby comes, no matter how hard you think it'll be to switch off from work, you just won't give a t*ss!!!
I finish next week and have been stressing all week as my maternity cover has been delaying signing her contract... but I'm already like "if we don't get a handover, it's not really my problem guys!"
Really looking forward to finishing work now and spending time with my 4 year old before she starts school and our life moves into the next crazy chapter!!
